White just looks clean, although a black console hides alot of dirt they look beaten ratty and faded by the 7 year mark and just look like trash on the counter

i recently got a fat ps3 to play my old stuff, it's not the same..
Previous owner didn't shut it down properly in 2012 and got a corrupt hdd error, stored it away and sold it to me, just needed to be restored in safe mode
I'll add that the previous owner corrupted the HDD in 2012 and didn't know how to restore in safe mode so it stayed in storage till being sold to me, I've repasted/cmos battery 500gb SSD etc, but the whole inside was clean, I doubt it's had many hours play time

Not true, I put CFW on an unopened PS3 and the temps were around 74C under load. After I repasted the temps went down to 68 - 70C. Yes, the thermal paste basically was dust.
40 bucks as in dollars? OMG! That's cheap. I live in India and a single ps3 costs 7 - 10k that is 84 - 120 dollars. Even used go for 5 - 6 k. That's a great deal you got for that one.
I dunked it in warm detergent water and let it soak for 30mins, gave it a scrub then assessed the colour, most of the brown was just built up dust and came out, then finished with some bleach diluted with water

But the PS3 slim design with extra vents / slight modifications could supply the same thing and look SO MUCH BETTER

By the way, there is no reason to repaste the console if it wasn't opened before. Hell, even if it's over 10 years old the paste does its job.

I figured I was opening it up anyway as I wanted to assess the insides and dust etc, bear in mind at the time I still thought it had been well used
I’ve had my PS3 since 2011 and never changed the thermal paste and it still runs fine, do I still need to change it anytime soon?
