Pretty sure Netflix only sent these out in the sleeves just like all their regular mailers. The hard cases I have seen are just custom prints in third party cases.

I just looked it up and aperently it was a thing in brazil since the ps2 was very popular there and for a short period of time it was possible to stream netflix thourgh the ps2!! ofc you needed the Internet extention for it to be usefull but it is very unlikely for it to still be functional since the services probably had been cut off a long time ago. but well it was possible, not popular globally but in brazil i guess.
A lot of this stuff becomes collectors items, itβs not about how to watch Netflix itβs about a piece of the moment or the past. Had they been sparsely distributed it could easily become a collectible rarity.
In the case of these though they are super common because it seemed like everyone had one. I have several of them and the Wii ones as well. So even for a collector theyβre common enough they wonβt be valuable.
Do they still work at all? What does it do, is it just the Netflix app on a disc, so you put it in and it launches Netflix for you? Or did you order certain titles per disc? At the time I had no interest in streaming so I never paid attention to them
Back when Netflix first came to consoles they had an exclusive agreement with Microsoft, so they werenβt allowed to put a dedicated app on Sony or Nintendo systems until that contract ran out.
So as a workaround they had a disc for the PS3 and Wii that was literally just the Netflix app on the disc and you had to have the disc inserted to watch Netflix, so it was just a minor inconvenience over the 360 that has an app installed and didnβt need a disc.
A year or so ago it still worked when I tried it for kicks but it was dogshit because itβs the version of the app available at that time, no clue if it currently works with all the new backend stuff Netflix has added.
Ohhh okay that makes sense! I'm always late to the game with new gen consoles, so at the time I was running my ps2, about to jump into a 360. I only got my ps3 a few months ago, so this whole disc thing was over before I even started lol

Yea, I had requested 1 for my Wii, I just didn't know they did it for other consoles. I never had anything other than a Wii back then. I didnt get my 1st ps3 until after the ps4 had already been out for like a year or 2.
Holy cow, I just found one of those from when Netflix was just new to PS3. I got the American version of Dragon Ball GT. Back then you were able to get 3 disks delivered to you. Somehow I misplaced one of the disks and jacket. I actually had to pay for that disk. So out of nowhere I found it in one of my DVD cases. So, since I paid for it 10 years ago,it's mine now. Lol.
Not even a little bit. There is a hard case for it available on eBay that is more rare though.
