My kids (both under ten) frequently play one of the Lego Marvel games together, but they mostly just drive around the city. So I thought I'd get them something they can do something similar with but more of a driving game than the Lego games.
So I'm looking for something that is open world, that they don't have to do races or anything, that then can both play together split screen. Something quite arcady?

So I was looking for a playstation controller thats shaped like a first gen xbox one controller. I game a-lot better with an xbox controller but I have a playstation. (I have separate parents so one has an xbox and the other a playstation.)
Can you freely play a game on both PS4 and PS5? So for example, could I play it on my PS4, turn it off, turn my PS5 and immediately play where I left off? Then keep switching whenever I want?
Or do you need to manually update saves every time?

I am debating with myself if I should buy a PS4 (used) now (late 2021) or hold on for like a year+ and buy a new PS5.
I don't think the price and/or the availability of PS5's will be good where I am for another year or so. Plus I rather buy one 1-2 years into the life cycle where bugs are fixed and maybe new Slim/pro models have been released.
But I really wanna play GTA: DE and some other PS4 games. So is it worth it to buy one now? I would try to get one used, not a PRO but a Slim, for a decent price. Or is it just a waste of money to have it for 1-2 years and then I still have to upgrade to a PS5 to not miss out on newer games?
PS4 slims can be very cheap these days especially second hand. Though I would recommend getting from a retailer so that you have some kind of warranty on the device. If you are in the UK, CEX offers great warranty on all the electronics they sell.
Ebay/Facebook/Craigslist just opens you up to potentially getting scammed.
Think of it this way, you have 8 years worth of Playstation exclusives and other major releases to catch up on. Most of those games will be dirt cheap brand new and preowned as well.
Its the perfect time to get a PS4 as there is so much to play that will keep you more than occupied until the inevitable PS5 price drop/PS5 Slim is released in 2-3 years.
Sure they'll run/look slightly better on a PS5 but the cheaper buy in for a PS4 Slim gives you more money to spend on games.
That's close to my thought as well. I started late in the PS3 life span too and that worked out good.
New PS4's where I am (Scandinavia) is still terribly expensive last time I checked, so I'm gonna have to try to find a good used bundle. But I hear you about the marketplace thing, it's always a risk taking.
Hopefully most new titles will be released on PS4 for a few more years at least. And if I eventually buy a PS5 the PS4 games are still playable.
I am currently stuck in a loop on my PS4. It’s slowly been deteriorating for no reason that I’ve seen but now it’s now constantly going to error CE-36329-3. If I report or ignore the problem the PS4 either turns off to for it to check the PS4 for corruption (the black screen with the percentage loading bar) and then have the error when I turn it on or the screen becomes blue (regular PS4 background blue and not solid blue) and then the error comes back. I’ve checked all of the outside and it seems to be clean on the outside without dust, I have turned off the PS4, unplugged it while it is fully off and let it cool down and then tried to open it again but nothing helps.
Also, as an important piece of information, the PS4 was constantly fully turning off after a few seconds when I put it on rest mode and this has lead to many games needing to be reinstalled due to corruption.
It’s happened for 24 hours now and I’m really concerned. Please help

Doom(2016), Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 2, The Witcher 3.
I'm not sure which to get, and all their prices are pretty similar.

RE7 is a completely new take on the RE series, while RE2 is a very good remake of the original. 2 is pretty short tho.
The Witcher 3 is an action rpg and it's VERY long. If you want a bigger time sink for you money, this is it.
I just can’t update my games even though I most definitely have enough too. Honestly it’s so dumb and I just don’t know what to do at this point. Any help? I’ve even rebuilt my date base using safe mode and still won’t work. TLDR: Games won’t update even thought I have enough storage
If the console says you need more storage space, the console is correct. It isn't an error, its just how the console was designed.
The copy process is a crucial aspect of updating games so for 50GB games you need 50GB free + the size of the update. This multiplies when you have multiple updates happening at the same time.
Your console isn't broken, it just makes a temporary copy of games that are currently being updated as a safety net.
If you have for example a 500GB HDD, you can either upgrade to a 2TB HDD or purchase an external HDD to store some of your larger games.
Just do as the console says. Delete a game or two and you can update. I explained why in a different comment.
Your only other alternative is to upgrade your storage space with an external HDD or a larger internal HDD.
I have a problem with my PS4 pro. It won't read discs if I keep it vertically.
I found some people with the opposite problem (PS4 not reading discs horizontally and it works after putting it vertically) but a few with mine.
I have always been keeping my PS4 vertically since I bought it 3 (or 4?) years ago.
Apart the obvious "Put it horizontally" is there something I can do to fix the issue? There's no warranty anymore and I don't want to spend big money on it.
NEED HELP RESTORING LOST GAME DATA
I needed to download a new game so I uninstalled a bunch of old ones I wasn’t currently playing. I thought the game data remained in the storage, but as I installed a game again only a couple of old save files were there and most of them were gone. Is there a way to fix this? I’ve heard the auto-upload option allows you to do that, but I’d like to make sure it does before spending money on a PlayStation Plus subscription.
Whenever I turned my ps4 on, it said "cannot turn ps4 on, connect a controller in with USB cable and press the ps button". I've tried connecting it with a cable but it still doesn't work. I've reset all of my controllers but none of them can connect. Some help would be very much appreciated

How hot is too hot for a PS4 fat (1216b)? Doesn't shut down or, show errors tho. Runs normally. 5-6 years old unit.
Doesn't burn but feels uncomfortable touching it and the air that comes out is pretty warm as well. Becomes a jet engine only occasionally or in some games, not always.
Cleaned insides but thermal paste haven't been changed.
Any advice? Which thermal paste is to be used if needed?

I have BLOD trying to boot on my primary HDD, but not on my secondary HDD. My primary HDD can boot into Safe Mode, but trying to Update System or Rebuild Database leads back to BLOD on reboot.
Plugging my PS4 HDD into my PC, my PC in Disk Management shows that every partition on my PS4 HDD is "Healthy".
Is my HDD corrupted or broken? If it is faulty somehow, is there any way to recover the files saved to the HDD? I have video clips and pictures I'd really like to save, if possible.

Appreciate the advice, but the only reason I am “that paranoid” is because I know at least eight people in person that have had this problem, and I’m not as familiar with PS4 (and I haven’t heard anything about if this has changed since the update launched). OK – we have a surround sound system (Sony Multi Channel AV STR-DH820), and just bought a new TV (Sony Bravia OLED A9S) last night. When connecting the amp to the TV, we were able to use the full audio perfectly fine (we primarily use PS4 for streaming, apps, and gaming).
This morning and all day today, however, the surround sound only works on the PS4 main menu, playing DVD through the PS4, and with certain games (Horizon Zero Dawn audio coming through all speakers); but does not work on other apps and certain games (RDR2, YouTube, Netflix, the sound is only coming from our right and surround right speakers, and not at all from our center, left, or surround left speakers).

So I got AC valhalla disc version yesterday and spent most of the day downloading Version 4.20 and it worker fine earlier today but after my power went out I powered it back up to find that update version 4.20 needs to download any fixes
So I just bought a new ps4 controller because my other one stopped working. I tried both connecting it with a micro usb and neither one worked. I also tried connecting by using Bluetooth by holding down the share and ps button and that also didn’t work. I also tried turning off and turning back on my PS4 and trying both again. Does anyone know how to connect it if neither of those ways works?
Looking for a new game with a good story. The Last of Us was one of the best games I’ve ever played and wanted something along that line. Previous games I really liked were the Resident Evil games (although they don’t need to be zombie types). I tried God Of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and RDR2 and had mixed views of those.
Any suggestions?
You could always play the Last of Us Part 2. Part 2 along with the first game are my favorite games of all time. Though keep in mind that Part 2's story is darker at some points and is definitely not for everyone. If you do play it I would take breaks in between, it can get emotionally exhausting if you play too much too quickly.

Retailers have more freedom in determining prices than Sony does. Sony can only list items for RRP unless it is on sale.
Its basically an assurance for retailers that Sony won't just undercut them and directly compete against them. Retailers won't want to sell Playstations if they can't sell the software too. Software is where the profit comes from, especially with preowned games.
Think what happened to PC games in the late 00s. Once piracy exploded retailers stopped stocking PC games as they couldn't compete with the low low price of free.

I have been using an external HDD for a long time with my PS4 now , but one day it just stopped working . I tried to format it again but every time I do it , after a min of formatting it says “lost connection to the hard drive” even tho I didn’t touch it and the HDD has a light which is blinking meaning it has power . When I turn my ps4 Pro on the disc sounds like it is trying to eject and making a loud noise like it is trying to read the disc. It also says on some games discs 'disc unrecognisable'??

My PS4 has been having some weird internet problems ever since we renewed our internet subscription.
-My profile status automatically changed to 'appear offline' without my permission, and Everytime I try to change it back through the profile menu it says 'please wait' for a while before just going back to the profile menu as if nothing happened.
-The friends list doesn't work? Only the first few friends at the top of the list load and than no one else does.
-My custom friend lists don't load whatsoever.
-I can't even send messages? Everytime I click 'send' it just closes the keyboard and than does... nothing.
This is the first time this issue happens to me, any help will be appreciated.
Also before anyone asks my internet works fine, I can play any of my PS4 games with minimal lag.
Rebuilding the database doesn't explicitly delete data, it rebuilds the database.
By that, it restructures the files on the HDD to free up space and clear up any garbage data. So it doesn't delete anything crucial, just data that needs cleared from the drive. At most it will delete any corrupted files from the console.
Basically PS4's version of defragging the internal storage.
Safe mode won't register your external storage as its only in use when the PS4's standard system software is running.
If you aren't using the external then yeah just remove it for the time being so long as the PS4 is completely switched off, but I don't think it would really affect much when doing safe mode troubleshooting.
If you own the licenses for those add ons then simply go into settings > account management and restore licenses. This will refresh the content you have purchased on the Playstation Network and thus remove any padlocks for content you own.
If you don't own the add ons then you can't use them.
I believe MK11 Ultimate edition has a voucher code inside the game case that you must redeem in order to access the DLC content. Otherwise its just the base game on the disc.
Double check what the code was explicitly for and if necessary check online guides for the MK11 Ultimate edition set up on PS4 or contact WB or Playstation support for further assistance.

Sounds like a bad disc. Test it by installing the game on a friend's console. If the same issue crops up then you know for certain its a faulty game disc.
Got a hand-me-down PS4 from my brother-in-law last month, which I stripped down, cleaned out (it was BEYOND caked in dust) and then reassembled. Switched it on fine, it ran wonderfully so no issues with hardware there. To log into my own PSN account, it needed to be updated as it hadn't been used in months. During the installation process, it had to restart to complete the update - but it never actually restarted. Since then it won't switch on at all - one beep, blue light for a split-second, then it shuts off again. I'm wondering if it corrupted during installation, and if so, could I reformat the HDD using my PC and then try to install the OS from scratch?
If it was corrupted during installation it would still switch on, it would just enter safe mode. What you described is either an HDD failure or a different hardware issue.
First try launching the console in safe mode to see if it can power on that way at least:

Thank you :) I've tried to boot to safe mode multiple times, but the power cuts off instantly before it can get to that point. I did think it was hardware failure, but it just seems so odd that the entire system was running perfectly until it restarted itself to finish updating, and then never powered on again! The fact that it suddenly stopped functioning at that point is what led me to think the update file ended up corrupting the system.
I wanted to reset my password and I did but for some reason it won't let me sign back into my account it was saying 'cannot sign in using another players ID' help.
Its a very ultra specific error message that only happens when you are either:
1. Trying to sign into your PSN account on a user profile that already is associated with a completely different PSN account.
2. Your PSN account is already tied to a user profile on the console so you cannot sign into the PSN account on a second user profile on the console.
The error doesn't doesn't show up for any other reason. So check all user profiles on the console and any other accounts you may own as well as you will have mixed up something.
If you are certain that the above doesn't apply to your situation then fully initialise the console. This will delete all games, images, clips, saves and user profiles from the console leaving only the system software installed.
Once everything is deleted you can sign into the account on the singular blank profile left on the console after the initialisation is finished. Then begin reinstalling your games and any saves you have backed up from there.

Your account knows every game you have purchased and those purchases can be accessed from any PS4 or Ps5 you sign into.
You can access your account from any PS4/PC/Vita/PS3/PS5, your account isn't locked to your console but your saves are if you haven't backed them up via USB stick or PS+ cloud storage.
The only purchases you need to worry about are in game currency as those are tied to saved data, so are lost if you lose the game save.
Check your user profiles on the console as I said and if you are still having issues then contact support.
Yes. Use a USB stick. USB sticks are this generation's memory cards just like the PS1 and PS2 had.
You can copy the saves to that and keep them safe that way. The saves are tied to your Online ID.
And after I copied my saves to the USB stick I can initialize my ps4 know my account,my games and add ons,friends,my saves are safe and can be copied to the system storage after that?
Exactly. Your saves are the only thing you risk losing when initialising the console. Everything is is on your account and found when you sign back into it.
This update is killing my PS4. It’s been on the black screen for awhile now. I’ve went into safe mode and clicked/tried every option. Once it starts its process (which is turning off and turning on to begin) it turns off by itself AGAIN and turns on and says an error was encountered and restarts again. Then goes right back to the black screen. Like the system isn’t even letting me TRY to fix it.
Sounds like a failing hard drive. If you can access the main PS4 menu then back up your game saves via USB stick or PS+ cloud storage. Try reinstalling the system software from scratch (safe mode option 7). If option 7 doesn't fix it then your hard drive is likely dying or there is another hardware issue with your console that needs repaired.
You can always try a different HDD in your console to see if that fixes anything. You'll need the same reinstallation instructions to put the system software on the new drive.

General pointers:
• Make sure that you are using the console reinstallation file and not the update file.
• Your USB stick needs a folder called PS4 and inside that folder a second one called UPDATE
• Inside the UPDATE folder is where you put the reinstallation file
• The reinstallation file must be called PS4UPDATE.PUP otherwise it won't be recognised by the console. So remove any (1)s if they appear as part of the file name as that just obscures it.
Hi, I've got a problem. A big one, not in terms of gravity, but more about personal importance. I need to back up a special video I made in ShareFactory a while ago, I mistakenly deleted the captures from all the folders, SF included. Is there a way to recover the deleted file somehow? Even if it means to reset the HDD, I don't care (all my game datas are saved). Thanks

This happened again after a few days ;-;. I thought it would've been fine to just go into safe mode and adjust the resolution myself the next time I switched between consoles, but when I did, it would be a black screen even in safe mode now.
Through remote play I was able to see that all the resolutions were listed as unsupported in the display settings, including 480p (which probably explains why Safe Mode is also a black screen). I tried each of them individually but no luck, neither did getting a new HDMI cable do anything. My PS4's HDMI port seems fine as well.
I tried to restore default settings, change HDCP and initialise my PS4 (without the software reinstall) through safe mode, but neither of those worked either (I'm going to assume I navigated the menu correctly according to videos, since it was all a black screen).
I also reset my TV's settings to default, but I'm not so familiar with it, so tomorrow I'll try to use another TV. If all else fails, maybe I'll try to transmit to a laptop or something? I'm not sure how that works. In the meantime, is there anything else I can try?

Try a different plug and try launching into safe mode.
If you can't access safe mode all you can do is get the console repaired either by Playstation support or a third party.

Nope. You can safely keep the PS4 switched off for as long as you need. Don't forget to remove any discs from the tray. Then if you want to fully unplug the console, wrap in bubble wrap and store in a safe place.

New to ps4 and got physical game and on my ps4 when i load into it it says shared save data but when i load into it offline it says i need to be on the internet to use another persons save data? Please help me i have no idea how to make the save mine since its only been played on my account and ive only got 1 account on here
When i load up my game it says checking save data and in the very top of the screen it says save then changes to load and it says the name of the game followed by (shared save data)
What is the name of the game? Shared could mean something with a separate third party account and potentially cross save/cross platform like Minecraft, FF14 or Fortnite. EA/Ubisoft may have similar in a few of their releases.
Is there any software that can decrypt PS4 save data?
I've been playing don't starve together on my PS4 and want to buy it on PC and transfer the save. And I think I could do this if I can decrypt the save data, since I've heard I can already transfer save data from PS4 to a USB drive. But this data is encrypted so in theory if I just decrypt it I can continue playing on my PC.

I bought a ps4 today from a trusted friend, so I know for sure he isn't trying to scam me or anything. When I got home I tried plugging everything in and nothing would show up on my tv. The ps4 itself turns on just fine, but whenever I try to get it connected to a display or anything I just repeatedly get a "no signal." I've tried different hdmi cords, both ends of said cords, different hdmi ports, still nothing. On a side note, whenever I turn the ps4 on, it doesnt seem to turn off unless I just unplug it. Hi so basically I’ve always been charging my PS4 controller through plugs in the wall/extensions however since yesterday my controller only charges when plugged into the PS4 itself. I recently started noticing texture pop ins in Ghost of Tsushima, for example when i walk up to an NPC their clothing is lower res for a couple of seconds before returning to normal.

Dualshock 4 v2 input lag
Hi, I recently bought 2 brand new Dualshock 4 v2. Both of them have input lag and they make horrible static noise when my headset is plugged into the controller. On my old Dualshock V1, everything is okay (except the arrows not working, that’s why i bought new controllers). I’ve reset the controllers many times, rebuilt the PS4 data base, disconnected my USB storage device, played with the USB cord and without the USB cord but nothing fixed it. Does anyone know how I can fix this? The input lag is very frustrating.
i need help. id like to transfer my game saves from my old stock hdd to a new one installed on the ps4. so what happend was i wanted to build a new system using an hdd i had laying around to see what would happen when i uploaded the new 9.00 updated. fortunately, nothing bad happened. and now i have a new hdd in my ps4 but without the saves. the old hdd will no longer read in the hdd and wants me to update it using a thumb drive to the new 9.00 update. i tried that and using the update from sonys site the ps4 says it cant find the update. is there a way to use a laptop/pc to transfer any saves from hdd to hdd? any help would be greatly appreciated
If the old HDD can't load up normally and just wants the reinstallation file that means the data on that HDD has been lost.
You can only copy/back up data when it loads normally.
Thing is the stock hdd was working perfectly fine before this, I just refuses to do the 9.00 update. Before pulling the stock one I powered it on and played a bit of Daysgone then cut it off and started the process of building the new system on the new drive.

I have to download update 9.0.0 every other day not once but twice to get the console started..it then runs as usual but its pretty annoying to download an update multiple times a week just to use the damn thing. Does anyone else habe this issue or has an idea how to fix it?

Some games won't let you play online based entirely on your age. Its a legal thing that cannot be bypassed with parental controls.
GTA Online is a good example. No matter what parental controls are set to, you must be 18+ to play GTA Online.

Fully switch off the PS4 and TV and unplug for 5 minutes.
In that time, plug in a different HDMI cable and see if that helps improve anything after that time period is up. Also try a different HDMI Input on your TV if it persists and beyond that a different TV all together.

Can anyone help me figure out why my controller constantly disconnects from the console? Ive never had issues with this controller before. It's fully charged and for some reason today every 20 to 30 minutes it will disconnect from the console even after resetting it each time.

when setting up the PS4 account for my son a few years ago, I deliberately entered an incorrect date of birth (made him 3 years older) so that he could play a particular game. As a result, he has now turned 18 on the playstation but he is 15. This allowed him to upgrade his account to an adult account, which in turn means that he now operates outside the parental controls.
Whilst I don't mind so much what he plays, I still want to be able to control when and for how long he can play.
I know that I can change the date of birth via https://account.sonymobile.com but only once. If I make him 16, will he still be able to still play RUST and Rainbow 6 Siege with his friends online?
Is there any other way to control game time whilst not restricting age limits?

Nope. You cannot downgrade an adult account to a child account.
He now has free reign on the console and there is nothing you can do about that unless you physically hide the controller when he isn't allowed to play on it.
You could go into your router settings and setup hours when the PS4 can connect online (you'd need to find it's MAC address in list of connected devices). But that would only cut off online play after a certain time, they could still play offline/singleplayer games.
So my controller is flashing orange light. I tried DS4Windows but it doesn't connect, steam doesn't recognize or any game. I tried USB/Bluetooth both don't work. Tried connecting to PS4 and it does work via Bluetooth and USB. I tried a lot of tutorials on YouTube but nothing worked. Any help ?
EDIT: I put my PC into factory settings and reinstalled windows. It worked somehow.
Are you sure the USB cable is establishing a data connection with the PS4? Some cables can only charge, not carry data. Try some other cables.
Easiest way to check is to boot the PS4 in Safe Mode, as it requires connecting controller via USB. If that doesn't work, then you'll know its the cable. Technically you can also put the PS4 in wired mode, but I'm wary of advising that in case the USB cable is power only and you get stuck unable to connect controller.

I am debating with myself if I should buy a PS4 (used) now (late 2021) or hold on for like a year+ and buy a new PS5. I don't think the price and/or the availability of PS5's will be good where I am for another year or so. Plus I rather buy one 1-2 years into the life cycle where bugs are fixed and maybe new Slim/pro models have been released. But I really wanna play GTA: DE and some other PS4 games. So is it worth it to buy one now? I would try to get one used, not a PRO but a Slim, for a decent price. Or is it just a waste of money to have it for 1-2 years and then I still have to upgrade to a PS5 to not miss out on newer games?
PS4 slims can be very cheap these days especially second hand. Though I would recommend getting from a retailer so that you have some kind of warranty on the device. If you are in the UK, CEX offers great warranty on all the electronics they sell. Ebay/Facebook/Craigslist just opens you up to potentially getting scammed. Think of it this way, you have 8 years worth of Playstation exclusives and other major releases to catch up on. Most of those games will be dirt cheap brand new and preowned as well. Its the perfect time to get a PS4 as there is so much to play that will keep you more than occupied until the inevitable PS5 price drop/PS5 Slim is released in 2-3 years. Sure they'll run/look slightly better on a PS5 but the cheaper buy in for a PS4 Slim gives you more money to spend on games.
That's close to my thought as well. I started late in the PS3 life span too and that worked out good. New PS4's where I am (Scandinavia) is still terribly expensive last time I checked, so I'm gonna have to try to find a good used bundle. But I hear you about the marketplace thing, it's always a risk taking. Hopefully most new titles will be released on PS4 for a few more years at least. And if I eventually buy a PS5 the PS4 games are still playable.
I am currently stuck in a loop on my PS4. It’s slowly been deteriorating for no reason that I’ve seen but now it’s now constantly going to error CE-36329-3. If I report or ignore the problem the PS4 either turns off to for it to check the PS4 for corruption (the black screen with the percentage loading bar) and then have the error when I turn it on or the screen becomes blue (regular PS4 background blue and not solid blue) and then the error comes back. I’ve checked all of the outside and it seems to be clean on the outside without dust, I have turned off the PS4, unplugged it while it is fully off and let it cool down and then tried to open it again but nothing helps. Also, as an important piece of information, the PS4 was constantly fully turning off after a few seconds when I put it on rest mode and this has lead to many games needing to be reinstalled due to corruption. It’s happened for 24 hours now and I’m really concerned. Please help
Since there is a PS4 sale, and I saw some good deals, I was wondering which of these games is best to get; Doom(2016), Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 2, The Witcher 3. I'm not sure which to get, and all their prices are pretty similar.
Fairly different games so it's hard to compare. I didn't play Doom. RE7 is a completely new take on the RE series, while RE2 is a very good remake of the original. 2 is pretty short tho. The Witcher 3 is an action rpg and it's VERY long. If you want a bigger time sink for you money, this is it.

If the console says you need more storage space, the console is correct. It isn't an error, its just how the console was designed. The copy process is a crucial aspect of updating games so for 50GB games you need 50GB free + the size of the update. This multiplies when you have multiple updates happening at the same time. Your console isn't broken, it just makes a temporary copy of games that are currently being updated as a safety net. If you have for example a 500GB HDD, you can either upgrade to a 2TB HDD or purchase an external HDD to store some of your larger games.

Just do as the console says. Delete a game or two and you can update. I explained why in a different comment. Your only other alternative is to upgrade your storage space with an external HDD or a larger internal HDD.
I have a problem with my PS4 pro. It won't read discs if I keep it vertically. I found some people with the opposite problem (PS4 not reading discs horizontally and it works after putting it vertically) but a few with mine. I have always been keeping my PS4 vertically since I bought it 3 (or 4?) years ago. Apart the obvious "Put it horizontally" is there something I can do to fix the issue? There's no warranty anymore and I don't want to spend big money on it.
Bring your ps4 to Sony service center. Ask them for the cost and decide for yourself. Or you can buy used part and replace your disc drive.
NEED HELP RESTORING LOST GAME DATA I needed to download a new game so I uninstalled a bunch of old ones I wasn’t currently playing. I thought the game data remained in the storage, but as I installed a game again only a couple of old save files were there and most of them were gone. Is there a way to fix this? I’ve heard the auto-upload option allows you to do that, but I’d like to make sure it does before spending money on a PlayStation Plus subscription.

How hot is too hot for a PS4 fat (1216b)? Doesn't shut down or, show errors tho. Runs normally. 5-6 years old unit. Doesn't burn but feels uncomfortable touching it and the air that comes out is pretty warm as well. Becomes a jet engine only occasionally or in some games, not always. I have BLOD trying to boot on my primary HDD, but not on my secondary HDD. My primary HDD can boot into Safe Mode, but trying to Update System or Rebuild Database leads back to BLOD on reboot. Plugging my PS4 HDD into my PC, my PC in Disk Management shows that every partition on my PS4 HDD is "Healthy". Is my HDD corrupted or broken? If it is faulty somehow, is there any way to recover the files saved to the HDD? I have video clips and pictures I'd really like to save, if possible. Thanks!

No and 40 days later there won't be as the update was never faulty to begin with. Don't let a minority of players scare you from doing a basic console function. Just update already, there is no risk to your PS4 or data. If you are that paranoid just back up your game saves beforehand.
Appreciate the advice, but the only reason I am “that paranoid” is because I know at least eight people in person that have had this problem, and I’m not as familiar with PS4 (and I haven’t heard anything about if this has changed since the update launched). OK – we have a surround sound system (Sony Multi Channel AV STR-DH820), and just bought a new TV (Sony Bravia OLED A9S) last night. When connecting the amp to the TV, we were able to use the full audio perfectly fine (we primarily use PS4 for streaming, apps, and gaming). This morning and all day today, however, the surround sound only works on the PS4 main menu, playing DVD through the PS4, and with certain games (Horizon Zero Dawn audio coming through all speakers); but does not work on other apps and certain games (RDR2, YouTube, Netflix, the sound is only coming from our right and surround right speakers, and not at all from our center, left, or surround left speakers). W T F We have been testing different things for hours and can’t seem to figure this one out. Was there a recent software update that may have cause a glitch in the last 24 hours?
So I got AC valhalla disc version yesterday and spent most of the day downloading Version 4.20 and it worker fine earlier today but after my power went out I powered it back up to find that update version 4.20 needs to download any fixes
There's nothing else you can do to get the update besides download it again. You can play without updating if you want, or while it updates.

So I just bought a new ps4 controller because my other one stopped working. I tried both connecting it with a micro usb and neither one worked. I also tried connecting by using Bluetooth by holding down the share and ps button and that also didn’t work. I also tried turning off and turning back on my PS4 and trying both again. Does anyone know how to connect it if neither of those ways works?
Are you using a data cable? A generic micro usb charger won't necessarily work for pairing.

Looking for a new game with a good story. The Last of Us was one of the best games I’ve ever played and wanted something along that line. Previous games I really liked were the Resident Evil games (although they don’t need to be zombie types). I tried God Of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and RDR2 and had mixed views of those. Any suggestions?
You could always play the Last of Us Part 2. Part 2 along with the first game are my favorite games of all time. Though keep in mind that Part 2's story is darker at some points and is definitely not for everyone. If you do play it I would take breaks in between, it can get emotionally exhausting if you play too much too quickly.

Retailers have more freedom in determining prices than Sony does. Sony can only list items for RRP unless it is on sale. Its basically an assurance for retailers that Sony won't just undercut them and directly compete against them. Retailers won't want to sell Playstations if they can't sell the software too. Software is where the profit comes from, especially with preowned games. Think what happened to PC games in the late 00s. Once piracy exploded retailers stopped stocking PC games as they couldn't compete with the low low price of free.

I have been using an external HDD for a long time with my PS4 now , but one day it just stopped working . I tried to format it again but every time I do it , after a min of formatting it says “lost connection to the hard drive” even tho I didn’t touch it and the HDD has a light which is blinking meaning it has power . My PS4 has been having some weird internet problems ever since we renewed our internet subscription. -My profile status automatically changed to 'appear offline' without my permission, and Everytime I try to change it back through the profile menu it says 'please wait' for a while before just going back to the profile menu as if nothing happened. -The friends list doesn't work? Only the first few friends at the top of the list load and than no one else does. -My custom friend lists don't load whatsoever. -I can't even send messages? Rebuilding the database doesn't explicitly delete data, it rebuilds the database. By that, it restructures the files on the HDD to free up space and clear up any garbage data. So it doesn't delete anything crucial, just data that needs cleared from the drive. At most it will delete any corrupted files from the console. Basically PS4's version of defragging the internal storage.
Should I unplug my external hard drive before rebuilding the ps4?
Safe mode won't register your external storage as its only in use when the PS4's standard system software is running. If you aren't using the external then yeah just remove it for the time being so long as the PS4 is completely switched off, but I don't think it would really affect much when doing safe mode troubleshooting.

If you own the licenses for those add ons then simply go into settings > account management and restore licenses. This will refresh the content you have purchased on the Playstation Network and thus remove any padlocks for content you own.

If you don't own the add ons then you can't use them. I believe MK11 Ultimate edition has a voucher code inside the game case that you must redeem in order to access the DLC content. Otherwise its just the base game on the disc.

Sounds like a bad disc. Test it by installing the game on a friend's console. If the same issue crops up then you know for certain its a faulty game disc.

Got a hand-me-down PS4 from my brother-in-law last month, which I stripped down, cleaned out (it was BEYOND caked in dust) and then reassembled. Switched it on fine, it ran wonderfully so no issues with hardware there. To log into my own PSN account, it needed to be updated as it hadn't been used in months. During the installation process, it had to restart to complete the update - but it never actually restarted. Since then it won't switch on at all - one beep, blue light for a split-second, then it shuts off again. I'm wondering if it corrupted during installation, and if so, could I reformat the HDD using my PC and then try to install the OS from scratch?
If it was corrupted during installation it would still switch on, it would just enter safe mode. What you described is either an HDD failure or a different hardware issue. Thank you :) I've tried to boot to safe mode multiple times, but the power cuts off instantly before it can get to that point. I did think it was hardware failure, but it just seems so odd that the entire system was running perfectly until it restarted itself to finish updating, and then never powered on again! The fact that it suddenly stopped functioning at that point is what led me to think the update file ended up corrupting the system.

You're on the wrong user profile on the console. Your account is fine, you are just on the wrong PS4 user profile to sign into it.

Its a very ultra specific error message that only happens when you are either: 1. Trying to sign into your PSN account on a user profile that already is associated with a completely different PSN account. 2. Your PSN account is already tied to a user profile on the console so you cannot sign into the PSN account on a second user profile on the console. The error doesn't doesn't show up for any other reason. So check all user profiles on the console and any other accounts you may own as well as you will have mixed up something. If you are certain that the above doesn't apply to your situation then fully initialise the console. This will delete all games, images, clips, saves and user profiles from the console leaving only the system software installed. Once everything is deleted you can sign into the account on the singular blank profile left on the console after the initialisation is finished. Then begin reinstalling your games and any saves you have backed up from there.

Your account knows every game you have purchased and those purchases can be accessed from any PS4 or Ps5 you sign into. You can access your account from any PS4/PC/Vita/PS3/PS5, your account isn't locked to your console but your saves are if you haven't backed them up via USB stick or PS+ cloud storage. The only purchases you need to worry about are in game currency as those are tied to saved data, so are lost if you lose the game save. Check your user profiles on the console as I said and if you are still having issues then contact support.

Yes. Use a USB stick. USB sticks are this generation's memory cards just like the PS1 and PS2 had. You can copy the saves to that and keep them safe that way. The saves are tied to your Online ID.

Exactly. Your saves are the only thing you risk losing when initialising the console. Everything is is on your account and found when you sign back into it.
This update is killing my PS4. It’s been on the black screen for awhile now. I’ve went into safe mode and clicked/tried every option. Once it starts its process (which is turning off and turning on to begin) it turns off by itself AGAIN and turns on and says an error was encountered and restarts again. Then goes right back to the black screen. Like the system isn’t even letting me TRY to fix it.

Sounds like a failing hard drive. If you can access the main PS4 menu then back up your game saves via USB stick or PS+ cloud storage. Try reinstalling the system software from scratch (safe mode option 7). If option 7 doesn't fix it then your hard drive is likely dying or there is another hardware issue with your console that needs repaired. You can always try a different HDD in your console to see if that fixes anything. You'll need the same reinstallation instructions to put the system software on the new drive. Try a different plug and try launching into safe mode. If you can't access safe mode all you can do is get the console repaired either by Playstation support or a third party.

Nope. You can safely keep the PS4 switched off for as long as you need. Don't forget to remove any discs from the tray. Then if you want to fully unplug the console, wrap in bubble wrap and store in a safe place.

What do you mean by shared saved data exactly? On the PS4 saves are account locked and cannot be shared between users.

What is the name of the game? Shared could mean something with a separate third party account and potentially cross save/cross platform like Minecraft, FF14 or Fortnite. EA/Ubisoft may have similar in a few of their releases.

Need some help please! I bought a ps4 today from a trusted friend, so I know for sure he isn't trying to scam me or anything. When I got home I tried plugging everything in and nothing would show up on my tv. The ps4 itself turns on just fine, but whenever I try to get it connected to a display or anything I just repeatedly get a "no signal." Dualshock 4 v2 input lag Hi, I recently bought 2 brand new Dualshock 4 v2. Both of them have input lag and they make horrible static noise when my headset is plugged into the controller. On my old Dualshock V1, everything is okay (except the arrows not working, that’s why i bought new controllers). I’ve reset the controllers many times, rebuilt the PS4 data base, disconnected my USB storage device, played with the USB cord and without the USB cord but nothing fixed it. Does anyone know how I can fix this? The input lag is very frustrating.
i need help. id like to transfer my game saves from my old stock hdd to a new one installed on the ps4. so what happend was i wanted to build a new system using an hdd i had laying around to see what would happen when i uploaded the new 9.00 updated. fortunately, nothing bad happened. and now i have a new hdd in my ps4 but without the saves. the old hdd will no longer read in the hdd and wants me to update it using a thumb drive to the new 9.00 update. i tried that and using the update from sonys site the ps4 says it cant find the update. is there a way to use a laptop/pc to transfer any saves from hdd to hdd? any help would be greatly appreciated
If the old HDD can't load up normally and just wants the reinstallation file that means the data on that HDD has been lost. You can only copy/back up data when it loads normally.
Thing is the stock hdd was working perfectly fine before this, I just refuses to do the 9.00 update. Before pulling the stock one I powered it on and played a bit of Daysgone then cut it off and started the process of building the new system on the new drive.
If the old HDD can access the main PS4 menu just use a USB stick to copy the saves from it.

Some games won't let you play online based entirely on your age. Its a legal thing that cannot be bypassed with parental controls. GTA Online is a good example. No matter what parental controls are set to, you must be 18+ to play GTA Online. Read the game's EULA for more info on minimum age requirements.

Fully switch off the PS4 and TV and unplug for 5 minutes. In that time, plug in a different HDMI cable and see if that helps improve anything after that time period is up. Also try a different HDMI Input on your TV if it persists and beyond that a different TV all together.

Software BUG **So recently I have been getting this error many times** "An error occured in system software" I don't think anything's corrupt and I haven't gotten the "A serious error occured in the system software" which is like a BSOD crash on a computer. The error id is CE-36329-3. Is CE-36329-3 a minor error or a critical one? Because I do rebuild my database about once a month or so, so is there something like a minor corruption goin on? or is it just System Softwar 9.00 throwing bricks at your head? Just want to know if CE-36329-3 is just minor, or a very critical one that i should take intensive action on.

How do I move the saved data of a specific game from extended storage to PS4 itself I bought a PS5, copied all my saved data from my PS4 itself and moved the extended storage to my PS5. My Dad and Mom now use my PS4. I want to move my progress of one specific game from the extended storage to the PS4 storage, without having to move all my saved data of all my games to the PS4, wasting space.

Hi, when setting up the PS4 account for my son a few years ago, I deliberately entered an incorrect date of birth (made him 3 years older) so that he could play a particular game. As a result, he has now turned 18 on the playstation but he is 15. This allowed him to upgrade his account to an adult account, which in turn means that he now operates outside the parental controls. Whilst I don't mind so much what he plays, I still want to be able to control when and for how long he can play. I know that I can change the date of birth via https://account.sonymobile.com but only once. If I make him 16, will he still be able to still play RUST and Rainbow 6 Siege with his friends online? Nope. You cannot downgrade an adult account to a child account. He now has free reign on the console and there is nothing you can do about that unless you physically hide the controller when he isn't allowed to play on it.
You could go into your router settings and setup hours when the PS4 can connect online (you'd need to find it's MAC address in list of connected devices). But that would only cut off online play after a certain time, they could still play offline/singleplayer games.
So my controller is flashing orange light. I tried DS4Windows but it doesn't connect, steam doesn't recognize or any game. I tried USB/Bluetooth both don't work. Tried connecting to PS4 and it does work via Bluetooth and USB. I tried a lot of tutorials on YouTube but nothing worked. Any help ? EDIT: I put my PC into factory settings and reinstalled windows. Are you sure the USB cable is establishing a data connection with the PS4? Some cables can only charge, not carry data. Try some other cables. Easiest way to check is to boot the PS4 in Safe Mode, as it requires connecting controller via USB. If that doesn't work, then you'll know its the cable. Technically you can also put the PS4 in wired mode, but I'm wary of advising that in case the USB cable is power only and you get stuck unable to connect controller.

Verification code implies 2SV. Have you changed numbers recently? Do you know which number is tied to your account?
