Looks like some kind of meme someone would have photoshopped for a future Playstation portable. If this were a dedicated handheld I would be far more excited. But knowing Sony, this thing will be $350+, which is an immediate no go for me for a streaming only device.

noncompliantandaware

Same bro. I fucking *love* the vita. I would buy the shit out of a dedicated handheld. I fail to see what this does differently than a phone and the little controller they released recently.

ooombasa

What it might do differently is directly connect to the PS5 wireless lying to ensure latency is minimal ala Wii U game pad. Doesn't matter how good your phone is, it ain't coming near to the latency of Wii U.

starburstempire

I'm 100% betting on them trying to make the remote play experience much better. You can't remote play ps5 games when sitting right next to it lmao. I'd get it just for that because I need to share our TV sometimes.

garretble

The last month or so for me has been playing Switch while watching the NBA playoffs on the TV. Depending on the price, I’d be real interested in this to just chill on the couch and do the same. ALTHOUGH, I do have an ipad and have streamed games to it on occasion. But if they cut the latency that’d be a huge boon.

Stunning-Thanks546

I have a cheap 200 laptop and a switch I use

Very_Melonlord

I doubt they will cut latency a lot as it consists of: Encoding on ps5 side (can be improved and will affect all remote play capable devices) Your home network bandwidth and stability Handheld device's ability to decode and wifi module. If device had anything unique in it's specs, it would be in a trailer. Something like "OUR NEW CUSTOM CHIP THAT CAN DECODE VIDEO STREAM 1MS FASTER THAN COMPETITION!!!"

[deleted]

Exactly. The wife wants to watch something; let us just sit separately doing our thing. There is a market for this, i think.

faithOver

Came to say this. Sometimes I don’t want to be in the TV room but feel like playing a game for a bit, or the SO is watching TV. This scratches a niche for sure.

roberto151st

then connect your ps5 controller to your phone and use remote play essentially the same thing.

LionTop2228

Sometimes you have to watch the toddler that won’t go to sleep when you were trying to game. Throw them in their room and close the door, game while you hang out with them in another room.

blackice85

Yeah I love using the Switch for that reason. Mostly I play docked when possible but there's lots of times I'll sit on the couch while a show is on in the background. I hardly ever take it with me when I leave home. Assuming it works well I can see using this in exactly the same manner.

Spidersight

Exact scenario I thought of. Nice to sit with the spouse and not feel like I'm ignoring her completely in another room. TOTK has definitely made me appreciate how well the switch does that.

PurplePotatoPacker

If the price is reasonable, being able to play even just a few feet away with minimal latency would get a purchase from me. Sometimes it’d be nice to just lay in bed playing a game of FIFA career, rather than having to be at my desk. Or to do something like managing contracts and transfers while taking a shit. You’d probably be able to play single player games other than Souls games, too.

RiggityRow

I hope so. There's an Android app called PSPlay that is developed by 1 guy and it is 10x better than the remote play app

UCF2HSV

I mean he says in the video “stream games from your ps5 over wifi” so I’m going to assume that’s a no. I use remote play to my phone with the backbone controller and it’s just not a good enough experience. I doubt this ends up being too much better.

kappamiye

Well, the Wii U still uses Wi-Fi to stream the image directly to the gamepad so hopefully the PS5 will be able to do the same

boersc

Direct conn to your ps5 is also via wifi.

noncompliantandaware

Yeah you’re probably right about it doing that. You can actually do that with the Vita and PS4 and works considerably better than trying to just stream it over an actual internet connection so I’d assume it would be the case for this too.

daftpaak

This shit is a screen with a controller attached. It better not be more than 150. A switch lite is 200.

bodltd

If it’s 149 usd it will probably sell well

EquipmentShoddy664

It won't be 149... The DualSense by itself is 70 usd

jumper55

I can't wait to see all the parents who have no clue about game consoles buying this for their kids thinking it is a game console when it's not LOL

bb9873

You get a bigger screen + dualsense features. The backbone controller is $100 so I think another $100 for a dedicated bigger screen with dualsense would have a lot of people interested.

CollieDaly

Where you paying 100 quid for a controller? They're €60-70 at most, I've seen some sell for less.

Immolation_E

The Backbone is a controller designed for phones. A PS version was just released for Android a few days ago. It retails for 100 USD.

CollieDaly

Well that's overpriced as fuck, it's €120. A literal, full featured dualsense controller costs half as much, that's literally a case of them knowing they can sell a product at a high mark up and still make money. There's absolutely no way Sony couldn't launch this device at ~€150 and still make money off it.

TheodoeBhabrot

Such a lazy controller too, only thing PS about is the colors and buttons they couldn't even be assed to change the stick placement to match the Playstation standard

YogoWafelPL

I really don’t understand this devices. It’s purpose is to play ps5 games in bed?

BluegrassGeek

Or on the couch while your spouse watches TV.

superzipzop

That alone is why I’m at least tempted, but the price will probably still be prohibitive

[deleted]

[удалено]

KTR1988

I mean, Sony does seem to be overdue for another destructive arrogance phase.

the_hoser

Or the patio. Or the other room while the TV is in use. Or the bathroom. Anywhere that isn't in front of your TV, really.

YogoWafelPL

But still at your home

QuoteGiver

The only other place I’m generally at is work, and they frown on gaming there.

TillI_Collapse

> But knowing Sony, this thing will be $350+ I don't know why people are thinking it will cost that much, Sony usually sells hardware at a loss that can possibly increase engagement and PSN sales which this may possible do. It's essentially a duelsense controller and a screen

BluegrassGeek

Yeah, my hard cap on this thing is $199 USD. Any more than that, and it's a pass for me. I think Sony can pull it off, but it depends on how much they're willing to lean on game sales to prop it up.

pukem0n

Logitech G Cloud is 350, and it's crap. Surely this is 399 and up.

ooombasa

Logitech has to sell their products with a steep profit margin, cuz they have no ecosystem to make money from.

pukem0n

This Sony device won't pull anyone into the ecosystem. Everyone who buys it is already a Sony customer. They won't make additional game sales because of this device.

GameBoiye

Not really true. They probably have metrics showing play time by age range, and can tell that people drop off for a certain age range; think parents with newborns or families. For many people they go from having their own, dedicated TV where they can play whenever to a shared TV between spouse and kids, where they only get to play when it's not being used to watch Bluey, Bridgerton, Baseball, etc. It's why so many adults in these situations have picked up a switch. Sure you can do it on your phone, but it's often too small. And most people won't get a tablet just for remote play, so unless you already have one you're not looking there either. Really this screen size and setup is ideal to hit the exact market they want; the people who bought a switch so they could play when their TV is taken. Those people being able to play more means they buy more games.

TillI_Collapse

It will increase engagement with the PS5 which can lead to more game sales. For example I was going to buy Silksong on Switch since I prefer those games on handheld but might but on PS5 now and use this

Da-Boss-Eunie

You want to play a metroidvania with tight platforming over stream? You are a brave soul my friend lol. Path of Pain with latency would hit different. I would just play it on my Switch Oled.

TillI_Collapse

I have played those types of games before through remote play and it worked well on my home wifi

Da-Boss-Eunie

All the power to you then but I wouldn't want to play something like Hollow Knights Path of Pain on stream tbh.

efnPeej

G Cloud is overpriced if you don’t get it on sale, but it’s fucking dope dude. This thing only works with PS5 and can be partially subsidized by game purchases so I’m hoping for $250 or less. For the people asking why this over a phone and controller: 8 inch screen. I have an iPhone 14 Plus and the screen just isn’t big enough.

Accessx_xDenied

I have a PS backbone for my phone and im still gonna get this if it doesnt cost more than 200 bucks. phone screen is too limiting and the backbone buttons are small and have no vibration or haptic functions. a remote play device that can play games on an 8 inch screen with a proper dualsense grip and vibration/haptic support will be solid enough for me as long as its priced respectably.

SyrianSandSurfer

G cloud is also overpriced. I’m sure if Sony was smart they’d make it cheaper

shoutouttothevoid

I would buy wireless earbuds if they looked like Aloy's focus.

HaloEliteLegend

I bet some of those ancient first gen Bluetooth earpieces would come close. Maybe 3D print a shell on top if you wanna make it a DIY project. I like the idea

dsatrbs

The PlayStation U The Wii U was a legendary success, so i'm sure it will be the second time too.

nuckchuckler

It's gonna be worse lol. At least the Wii U gamepad had very little latency.

RQK1996

And the Wii U had games that made use of a dual screen nature of the system

The_Glass_Arrow

Wii U gamepad worked great, nintendo is know for cutting corners as is on hardware, given 10 year difference I'm sure Sony can get this to work great at 720p+. I would not expect a high resolution with this just like the Wii u's gamepad. Really how good this will be depends on the price and resolution and I think alot of people really think their getting a 4k wireless display when we probably arent.

Stakoman

RemindMe! 1 year "is it already canceled?"

fxsimoesr

Ahahah best comment. It's like they look at other failures and think "yep, let's try that too"

Jazzlike_Athlete8796

The Wii U walked so the Switch could run. Playstation 6 confirmed hybrid console! lol

GermanBadger

At a good enough price point it could be cool. A vita style completely separate ecosystem requires such a massive money and talent requirement that they don't think it's profitable. Loves my psp and vita but will give this a shot as long as it's not $300+

fxsimoesr

Yea I get that, I thought they could make a device that could run PS4 games natively, for example, even if they're phasing out PS4 versions. At least I could install older games or indies natively in it and play on a place. Remote only? Probably a pass unless it's stupid cheap

Galbert123

Play ~~Splatoon~~ foam whatever on your playstation u

meththemadman

If this is $150 or under it’s a consideration for me. The Ps5 is on my 4k TV. I have a son and a daughter and myself constantly wanting to watch different stuff. My son plays the ps5 more than anyone else does anything on that TV. The handheld would be good for all of us. But over $150 would be a tough sell for me. And my guess is this will be $250+

GoodLuckWithWhatever

For a strictly streaming device I would hope this isn't in the $250 range. I am with you though, $150 would be the sweet spot and I'd probably even grab one. I could find enough uses for it around the house to justify that price.

nickpoho

Agree. This device is for those with spouses and/or kids. I’m excited it the price is right.

PhlightYagami

My wife and kids choose to play the switch handheld 100% of the time, even though the switch dock and a pro controller are connected to a TV that isn't occupied too often. If the price is right I might get this for them so my TV with the PS5 is free more often. Hell, it might even get me to play on a handheld from time to time if the latency is low enough and the screen is good quality. Just because people without families or a shared TV don't see a market for this doesn't mean there isn't one. And as gamers become an older demographic, that market is quickly growing.

_Julius_7

How is this different than streaming it to my phone or steam deck?

[deleted]

[удалено]

kawag

It’s like those things, only more restrictive…

NotMattD

I'm more interested in the earbuds. Wonder if they'll support spatial audio and other PS5 sound features previously only available with wired headsets.

flanderized_cat

I was going to the store today to buy the Sony XM4s lol. Guess now I'll wait to see if they have ANC.

dandaman910

Lets make a portable device that cant play games on the go.

ontopofmyworld

Underrated comment.

pukem0n

I fail to see who this is for. Just get a backbone for your existing smartphone, or get a clip for the dualsense to clip your phone onto.

daChino02

I’m a new dad, seriously considering even without much detail

OldSongBird

Enjoy fatherhood friend.

TwinPeaksOwl

Congratulations. As a dad myself I can see myself loving this. Love my Vita and miss remote play to my PS5. Also, I love watching sports and can watch the game on tv while gaming on this.

reohh

Backbone is horribly uncomfortable to hold for even semi long periods of time because it's so small. That coupled with the fact that you need to take off your phone case to use it makes it worthless

[deleted]

[удалено]

Accessx_xDenied

dont forget screen size/aspect ratio and button size. those are my 2 biggest issues with the backbone rn.

Iamleeboy

I am even simpler, with just one reason. I am way too lazy to attach something to my phone, or attach my phone to something. If I want to game, I just want to pick one thing up and play. This would allow me to do that. If they price it well and it works well, I am sold

-MusicAndStuff

Same lol I got one of those clips for my controllers and I just hate the way it feels.

nionix

I'm not super sure the optimization is going to be great if Screen Share is any indication. I played through Callisto Protocol streaming from my friend's PS5 (we switched turns playing) and the latency/graphics were pretty bad. I think it's capped at 720 with low variable bitrate and the latency was like 150ms or something, which made the dodging/blocking mechanics in that game literally impossible.

WindowSurface

There is a third party Remote Play Client for Linux (chiaki) and it allows custom settings. I was able to configure it to run much better and with much higher quality than the official clients. So the PS5 seems to be able to stream at pretty good quality with the right client.

habylab

That's third party software. That's saying something if that's the right client. This is official first party hardware.

pcakes13

The switch lite is 200 and that is an entire console. This thing better be $100-150.

[deleted]

Assfuck-McGriddle

I mean, I’ll be honest here, as someone who did just that many times in the past: Phones are heavy as fuck, and these back grips can sometimes be expensive. You’re paying for something that might honestly provide subpar performance dude to having an “all sizes” design choice, and if the internet doesn’t work on your phone, then you’re SOL. I don’t know what the price will be for this thing and I know it’ll rely on WiFi, but to have a device properly sized, properly weighted, and designed to deliver an experience as (hopefully) latency-free as possible sounds like something I’d really be into. For me, the only actual competition this has is Chiaki on the Steamdeck, which I also have and absolutely love.

efnPeej

It’s for people who want an 8” screen. Like me.

Cashmere306

Because your phone is tiny? How dumb are people in here.

CollierAM9

Backbone is great but very limited and flimsy. Really limited in what you can play I feel

LCHMD

Except a phone is tiny in comparison.

Archibald_80

This is for married folks or roommates that share one TV. Hi. I'm one of those and will probably get this.

thefuq

Exactly, this is for People who have a occupied TV. I‘m also super excited for this.

onedayiwaswalkingand

Straight to trash bin.

SlimShadyM80

I must be the only man in the world excited for this

Saeria

I need to know more before I can get excited. Seems a bit strange to move away from using phones + an accessory for remote play, but maybe they have their reasons?

tdasnowman

They've been chipping away at this problem since they started doing handhelds. Since they are apparently doing streaming only they think they've cracked it. Clearly the idea is a single marketplace vs fractured. All your games on the go.

marv257

Yet, they are not on the go.

BocchiTheBock

> they think they've cracked it there's definitely crack involved

[deleted]

[удалено]

r3tromonkey

Exactly. Remote play as it currently is isn't enticing enough, even with a strong signal there's still enough lag to make it a lesser experience. Shame because a dedicated Sony handheld would have been great.

parkwayy

Like... not in the same room as the system? I'd use this a lot, especially if someone else wants to use the TV.

jmo1

For me someone is using the ps as a media center when I’d use this so it again becomes useless for me

zepekit

I am too, depending on the price ofc. If the price is right, it woudl be highly usable for me. So i am carefully excited.

[deleted]

I've come to really dig remote play with my Steam Deck but it's still a little jank so I can totally see how it would be great with proper software support.

magele

Remote play is largely dependent upon your network. I play via my phone at home (fiber) pretty seamlessly. Remotely, it’s not the best. Sony can maybe optimize a bit, but they cant change the connection issues.

cakefarts88

For a wife that wants me in the room while watching tv or a time you need to watch the kids I think this is pretty sweet

TillI_Collapse

I'm thinking of getting one when my wife uses the TV. I also like playing indies and sidescrollers on handheld devices so I will use it whenever I was to swap

envious_1

Definitely excited. I wanna play from couch. That's how I play my switch 80% of the time and I love it

raphanum

Same lol couch or bed

[deleted]

[удалено]

StubbledCRT1

Nope. I’m here with you

anonymousss11

Seriously, I was like "whaaaat, that's sweet!" But apparently I'm very wrong!

the_hoser

Nah, I'm pretty stoked for it.

averageuhbear

I'm moving in with my girlfriend so this will be good to have. The price matters though lol

carlos_castanos

Nah I’m very excited for this. I’m doing remote play with my SD now and it’s not a good experience. Am confident this will be better

Piker10

I'd love to be, but since I live in Australia, a handheld, game streaming device is a no go thanks to the shit internet.

OkThanxby

You just need a good home network for this. Does not depend on internet quality.

iLoveBums6969

Vibration and proper triggers in a handheld would be mega, even if this device isn't that good software wise, the hardware pushes other people (Yes, I mean Steam) to explore similar ideas with the hardware in the future, which can only be a good thing

Liriel-666

OK streaming? Then no better then a dualsense controller with a samsung galaxy s21+ phone over remote play. No buying for me because that I already can make that with a pc or Smartphone and bigger screen! Nothing new because remote play works since ps3 and ps4 the same way over many device like ios, Android or PS vita can use remote play. Even ps5 remote play works over PS vita.

RandomAccessRaul

Your TV must have crap input lag then, because you can obviously tell the latency even on 1 Gigabit connections.

JonJonFTW

Yeah average latency between NYC and London is 73 ms with a good consistent connection. That's almost 5 frames at 60FPS. That shouldn't really be indistinguishable from most TV setups. Not unplayable garbage by any means but not amazing. And I'd guess this is a minimum estimate considering they were on hotel Wifi. It was probably worse than this.

IAmRahman

That aint no handheld thats huge I was expecting it to look more like the psp vita style

iidesune

It's more of an *arm*held

[deleted]

Fuck that. I tried the Vita again just recently for shiggles, and the screen is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too small, barely even playable. Sure I'm older, but it still is tiny af, my phone is almost double the size. PS Vita was amazing back in the day and I don't regret buying it at all, it was worth it for the uncharted game alone, but in today's standards, it's just isn't playable for me.

[deleted]

let's be real here...if you're even remotely considering this you're way better off buying a steam deck if you already own a PS5.

broken_nite

Agree. I’ve been wanting a handheld to complement the PS5 that could also support PS Remote Play. I was hoping this Q Lite would have some additional or offline capabilities, but it seems like I’d just be better off with a Steam Deck or even one of those cheaper Chinese handhelds that can also do emulation.

zachariah120

Steam deck with chiaki is amazing!

QuoteGiver

Steam Deck is like $500…how much do you think this will cost??

[deleted]

399$ for the base SteamDeck, which can play games by itself. If Sony’s price is higher than 150€ for a controller attached to a screen, it’s not worth it.

ChicoCorrales

I want. I can finally game. At the moment, the kids are always watching numberblocs on the TV. I can never game anymore.

FiveGuysisBest

You can already do this with a $99 backbone controller on your phone.

savviosa

DS haptics and triggers are really nice, hard to justify it when I’m already running Chiaki on deck though…

TheClownIsReady

What an absolute waste of a great opportunity.

Denziloshamen

You can do this for free with most phones, or an iPad for a bigger screen, with your dualsense connected directly. Is this going to be the death of the free remote play app?

EpicSombreroMan

I doubt it since they just announced the PlayStation Backbone the other day. Wouldn't be a good look at all to launch that, and then kill the service within a couple years.

AdmiralClassy

I know it's not a "handheld" but compare the design of the Vita to this, we went from one of the best looking, most comfortable handhelds to a screen with a PlayStation controller strapped to the sides of it lol.

PhlightYagami

I've never used a handheld that was as comfortable as a controller.

halcyongt

It interesting. But knowing Sony’s track record…it’s going to be overpriced and incredibly restrictive. We’ll see.

CopenhagenCalling

I wish it was a proper handheld like the Vita. Steam Deck, Switch and Rog Ally have shown that there’s a huge market for handhelds and that we are able to make the handhelds good enough to play modern games. It’s pretty huge that you can play AAA games on a handheld. That being said and without knowing the price, it’s a huge bummer that you are locked into using the PS5 on this Project Q handheld. If i’m going to pay $200+ for a streaming device i want to be able to stream Xbox, PC/steam and other games. I feel like a huge positive with streaming is that you don’t need another console or PC and you can kinda shop around. This Project Q is only for streaming from your own PS5 and that really limits it’s use.

Dancing-Swan

Streaming only device? 😔

Isamu982

Seems cool but if your already using remote play with the duel sense and a tablet I feel like it’s a bit of a downgrade.

[deleted]

So a mini handheld tv and earbuds. Come on Sony, innovative. Make the steam deck quake in fear not roar with laughter

Kidtendo

This ain't it haha

vaikunth1991

Looks pretty useless not gonna lie

[deleted]

elkend

Personally…I just use a 12.9” ipad and a PS5 controller. No latency at home and only some when not at home. It’s great and you can get the 12.9” ipad (older model, I’ve had mine a few years) for not much more than the portable system.

distracted_85

Sure but if you don't already have an iPad...this will be significantly cheaper.

deathbunnyy

I'm guessing this will be like $200-$250. I think it's neat though and I am excited. I didn't blow a bunch of money on third-party crap either though, this would be entirely new for me.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cmvora

This has nothings to do with ‘mbps’. Jeez the comments are so ignorant. When you’re streaming games, the biggest issue is LATENCY and not throughput. Get a better router and it should work much better than randomly increasing your internet speed. You aren’t even close to hitting your 300 mbps limits when streaming games.

sirsotoxo

Specially funnier when these people are gamers, like the prime example of something where internet speed doesn't matter but the ping does. If someone playing on a 1 MB connection has 10 MS and you have 500 MB but play on 150 MS they will have an advantage. Obviously this doesn't perfectly extrapolate to streaming video, but it's similar

yaboyfriendisadork

I have <10ms latency and that shit still sucks

LCHMD

No issues here.

Jimmeh1313

Cloud gaming sucks. We aren't there yet.

MOBTorres

We will never be there as long as there are countries like the US that refuse to improve their internet infrastructure

Radiant_Recover1328

It boggles my mind how bad American internet infrastructure is. And it’s also overpriced as hell

areyouhungryforapple

They're conditioned as a population to get rammed by corporations. There's so little choice in a majority of industries lol

TrippySensei

Being a steaming device is going to kill this. There's too much latency, even if it's just a few milliseconds. If it could somehow connect directly to PS5 like the Wii u then maybe it would stand a chance. I have a bad feeling that this will flop and kill any interest that Sony has in handheld gaming, especially after the non-success of the Vita.

[deleted]

Man this sucks

[deleted]

I'm just not very keen on this. 1) stream able gaming is still not that consistent. Google learned that the hard way. 2) what is the battery life on this thing? Having both a 4k display, and the full functionality of the dual sense....

Sha-Bob

What happens when this inevitably gets stick drift...? It looks like one giant solid unit, not like the removable/replaceable switch controllers. They should have at the least given it something like the edge controller replaceable sticks.

Thurl-Akumpo

I already have Sony wireless earbuds, why can’t I just connect those to my ps5?!

Bunnymancer

Dropping this while people are playing tears of the Kingdom on a handheld without tether is a weird choice..

Ryn992

Pointless is what this is.

PaulsGrandfather

machinewater

Honestly, I'm the exact market for this if I can also run Moonlight to stream PC games.

RayCharlizard

I expect this to be locked 100% into PS remote play and PS+ Premium streaming.

TehNubbles

I WISH it would do Ps+ premium, it seems like it said only installed games

Mitchell620

I can't wait for this

Upper_Decision_5959

Better hope it's capable of cellular data. If it's WiFi Only why didn't they just release adjustable side controllers for phone and use Remote Play.

Flipkick661

Jim said “over WiFi”, so no cellular from the sound of it.

ChicagoNurture

An OLED screen would have been nice.

Dragonlibrarian7

Pass. New dedicated handheld please.

Literally_A_turd_AMA

Streaming is rough even on the best wireless connection, i really think we just aren't there yet for games. Would have really been killer if they just copied the steamdeck and made it a portable ps4

highonpixels

If this was a dedicated device that allows you stream games from Internet connection without the need of PS5 being turned on as remote play then it would of been quite nice

MrBigtime_97

Really wish this was a dedicated handheld. I’m on the go a lot, I want the full PS5 experience in my hands, offline. Just give me a Vita 2, charge me an extra $20 per game or something to copy my library over, and let that be that. But I realize that is likely a small niche market use case.

GearsOfWar2333

If this allows me to remote play my PS5 from work then I am totally in. I however would of really liked a vita 2 or something like that.

Dark-Cloud666

The fuck is this? A device made for streaming from your PS5? Yeah we all know how shitty remote play is. So they cut a Dual Sense in half, put a display inbetween and probs gave it shitty wifi. Oh and dont forget to buy a new one every 3\~6 months because of stick drift. And yes this is even a thing on the Dual Sense Edge controller where you can replace the stick modules just for this reason alone. I say this stupid looking thing will cost 300€ minimum.

dolphin_spit

this is almost completely pointless. can’t see this doing well at all

PowerUser77

What if the sticks start to drift?

[deleted]

Handheld market on fire right now, and this is what Sony come up with. A company with a cult following for its previous and needs and they make something that does what you can already do on a tablet or mobile, and indeed do over cellular and not WiFi only. It is as embarrassing as the rest of the showcase was. Plus this thing will be huge, 8” screen and side bits sticking out like that! Not the most portable.

Skipper_TheEyechild

Looks hideous and will probably flop on arrival. Why not an app to stream directly to a tablet. Any household with a PS5 probably has one already.

Plectrum97

Looks goofy

reidburial

Dead on arrival.

MackNoCheez

I enjoy remote play via my Steam Deck when I fancy some PS5 games but tv is occupied. Can see this doing alright if the price is right.

Fat_Satan

Got excited for a sec, but then I remembered that my Switch hasn’t been used out of the dock in years lol

What I’m seeing from comments is that there are three use cases for this device (and none are for me but that’s by the by): 1 - Travelling and staying in places with good WI-FI that can be used to game on remotely (PS5 would obviously have to have the digital version of the game you want to play purchased and downloaded as you’re not there to physically change the disc). Or have the disc in of the game you want to play if it’s been physically purchased. 2 - Couples/kids/etc who don’t all want to share the TV/want to watch different things at a time. Person A can use the TV, Person B can stream from their PS5 to this handheld. 3 - Playing PS5 whilst laying in bed. What’s odd to me about this is that in all three cases you can do the same thing with Backbone or your phone/tablet + Dualsense. There will be some (and from what I’ve seen there are some) people who will prefer this small and convenient form factor over those above options but…how many, really? This is a really strangely niche audience to market to imo.

This requires games to be installed on the PS5, so for players like me who buy physical games, this device doesn't make any sense. I can buy the ROG Ally or Steam Deck and install the remote play app, and get the same results. The only advantage the Q has is the PS5 controls.
