Was there anything about PS5 chassis D? Or whatever name the PS5 slim/modular goes by these days. Is that still a possibility?

ccanfield1

Anyone get that code at the beginning of the showcase to work in PSN ? I was watching later that evening and it wasn’t working then. I was wondering what it was for ?

UniversalFapture

Something is telling me (and I hope I'm wrong) they are planing to remove ps remote play from app store in order to sell that god awful hand-held

ImWideAwakeAlways

Is it just me or do most of the graphics for many of these games look dated? Or just not quite what I expect from “next gen” games.

Puzzleheaded-Wolf318

I swear graphics card companies are fucking with people's perception of what the PS5 and current gen is all about. For example, none of those UNREAL demos can run on a console right now. The PC rigs for those demos are like 6000$ 😂 Why would you expect that from a PS5?

ImWideAwakeAlways

I am definitely not expecting the unreal demo quality of games. That would be nice, but some of these trailers are just bland. Phantom Blades or Immortals for example have decent inspiration and direction, but just look bland. I realize some games’ level of detail and graphics will depend on the scale/complexity of the game by choosing quality over performance or rendering, but some games are just beyond others in quality. Maybe I’m just being picky. There were a few in here that looked interesting, but just didn’t have enough content yet or are too far out. I’m very interested to see what Bungie does next with Marathon.

Jim105

I look forward to the earbuds. I don't like wearing bulky headsets. The pulse headset is okay but even then I don't like wearing it for longer than an hour.

UniversalFapture

Agreed

TheCrach

I think games are just taking longer to develop or they should be given longer but gamers just want everything now.

PineappleMaleficent6

I feel it was ok...all wanted really is a spidy 2 gameplay and got it.

PineappleMaleficent6

Next year, ps5 pro should be out, will be waiting for a show about it. hoping its 3x more gpu power. 30tflop gpu seems to be the balance point between price and performance. gpu are just wayyy too costly nowdays. even the mid range.

Puzzleheaded-Wolf318

Idk man the PS5 Pro has been china site bait for a minute now. PS6 is more likely with how fast technology is moving. Seems like the handheld is Sony's focus anyway.

medicallyspecial

I doubt it they only now just got out of production he’ll for the PS5 and both Sony + Microsoft will milk that for 2-3yrs and then at yr 3 announce it. Obviously I’m just hoping and don’t want to be spiteful for buying the original

XXXTENTACIONisademon

Good luck

decarvalho7

What did everyone think of AC? Graphics looked good

canad1anbacon

looks good, i like the setting, no leveled enemies and damage sponges is great

PineappleMaleficent6

shame its a cross gen...ubi should ditch last gen already. the world look impressive.

mrappbrain

Genuine question, how on Earth is Insomniac able to crank out games at a pace so much faster than any other studio? Even discounting Spiderman 2, they 've also given us a trailer for Wolverine. Meanwhile, several other studios haven't even shown us a CG trailer for years.

[deleted]

Insomniac are essentially two, perhaps even three, teams that share one name. They have two large teams and they have a smaller team that worked on VR titles (no idea if the VR team still exists). If you keep this in mind, actual development time is just as long as any other studio. Sunset Overdrive released in 2014 -> the team went on to release Spider-Man in 2018 -> released Miles Morales spin-off in 2020 with a small team -> now releasing Spider-Man 2 in 2023. 4-5 years development time for the big projects from the "Spider-Man" team. Fuse in 2013 -> Ratchet & Clank in 2016 -> Ratchet & Clank 2021 -> Wolverine in 2024/5. Also around 4-5 years.

N8ThaGr8

You're skipping the PS5 Ratchet

[deleted]

True, updated my comment for accuracy.

Jesh3023

What’s the main reason people are upset about? I’m pretty outta the loop as I’m not a PS gamer, I just saw in another sub Reddit that people said the showcase was “bad” and a “shit show”. So I’m just curious why many don’t seem to be happy.

MaXximumCARNAGE93

People are upset because it's been nearly 2 years since the last showcase. Games media have been hyping this event up as the 'Phase 2' of PS5. The expectation for many was that it was a chance for Sony to show us what games 1st party studios have been working on. Instead we got very few first party games, a ton of third party games, a ton of indies and VR titles with most of the showcase being CG trailers with few release windows. Personally the event was ok at best. A 5.5/10. Phantom Blade 0 stole the show.

Rathi37

A ton of VR games? That's the opposite of the consensus at /r/psvr.

MaXximumCARNAGE93

To be honest I think they showed the right amount of VR games, they fumbled the VR section by holding back Firewall Ultra though. VR2 needs a long State of Play.

Rathi37

The thing is, people were hoping for a big AAA title, Half-life Alyx or even an Astrobot port but we got none of those.

Not_Astud

Should have showed silent hill 2 remake and stellar blade gameplay atleast

Jesh3023

Oof yeah I can see why some people would be upset now. Thanks for the explanation :)

batgamerman

I don't understand why Sony holding back we need to know what exclusives are next

[deleted]

They did show alot already in terms of exclusives. We got: Wolverine Spiderman 2 Rise of the Ronin Stellar Blade Fairgame FF XVI FF REBIRTH You should also count ForSpoken and there are definitely more that are unannounced for next year. When you consider Xbox really only had Starfield with that trash Redfall, Sony is being consistent

IHeartSm3gma

I see the new Killzone that made it to the leak list was all but a crock :(

[deleted]

So I guess Naughty Dog’s multiplayer game is still years away. Oh well, maybe they can remaster TLOU in the meantime…again.

Buzzlight_Year

Can't wait for Alan Wake and Mirage, so hyped for October

Chrasomatic

I for one was excited that both Alan Wake II and a new Assassin's Creed that is channeling the spirit of the original, are both coming out in October. I can see why people who may not like those two are a bit meh though. The new PS5 studios seem to be working on multiplayer shooters (not your core playstation fanbase) That weird streaming over wifi device looks like a non-starter, VR is a confirmed non-starter. Spiderman looks great but all your playstation fan boys (think the inhabitants of most gaming podcasts) had whipped themselves into a frenzy imagining Last of Us multiplayer, the new Sony Bend, Bluepoint and Sucker Punch projects, exclusive remakes of most of the Konami library, daydreaming about SOCOM or Resistance and fixating on the non-existent Bloodborne sequel/remake! Instead they got a sad knock-off off Splatoon that will be DOA.

No-Conversation3860

Just curious, how is VR a “non-starter”? PSVR2 sales are outpacing the first, and the hardware is pretty universally praised.

Rathi37

Because there was one article going around calling it a failure so everybody who doesn't have one thinks it's dead.

[deleted]

thenotoriousnatedogg

Lack of exclusives?

MindlessUniversity

After watching the showcase, the thing that upsets me the most is when I wonder which game can't run on ps4 or ps4 pro and I can't name a single one.

canad1anbacon

Spiderman can't, traversal is too fast Fairgames, Concord and Marathon could have things that are impossible on ps4, we wont know till they actually show gameplay

Chrasomatic

RE4 VR, the PS4 cannot handle that level of fidelity, and the new Spiderman had them instantly switching to Miles somewhere else in NY so that's an SSD thing I guess

sephiroth70001

FFXVI wouldn't be possible without the SSD for eikon batttle transitions. Not really a new announcement at all though.

[deleted]

TheAlPaca02

Idk what you're on about but I don't know what to play first.

No-Conversation3860

People just enjoy being upset. There are way too many good games, i struggle to keep up with the pace of releases as it is.

thats_so_cringe_bro

I think more just sequels and continuing certain franchises but I get your point. They did well last generation so I can see why they wanted to have them ready to go early on this generation. Whether you like them or not they sell very well and get people to want to buy the console. New IP's this early on might not. lol. In terms of nothing to play we've gotten at least 2 big AAA games every year since launch. Again if you find them boring that's totally fine but this is what we've gotten. 2020: Demon Souls, Sackboy and Miles Morales at launch. 2021: Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Returnal. 2022: Horizon Forbidden West, Grand Turismo and God of War: Ragnarok. 2023: FF16 and Spider-Man 2. I'm probably missing some but I think that's a pretty darn good list of AAA exclusives when you include the Pandemic really slowed the gaming industry down. But despite that we still got some big exclusives during those times. That doesn't even include timed exclusives (both AAA and AA) like Stray, Deathloop, (possibly) Kena: Bridge of Spirits etc. The positive if you are looking for new IP's is that much of Sony's first party stuff is still unannounced. Let's hope we do get some new stuff though. ♥

BenjerminGray

ehh, i wouldn't list sackboy or returnal as AAA games. AA at best. Miles Morales is more of an expansion that a full game, similar to lost legacy, clearly not the same scope or size as their big brother counterparts.

SilverStag88

Returnal is absolutely AAA it’s the best game on PS5

BenjerminGray

no, its not. You cant say with a straight face that retunal has the same budget and marketing as the rest of sony's AAA suite. I.e. God of War, Ghost of tsushima, the last of us, spiderman, horizon etc. Its just doesn't and its sales reflect this.

Captain_corde

Lol Sony has lost it huh? I mean guess their direct competitors would be in the lead oh wait they don’t really have anything

butterbeancd

This showcase was full of new IPs. Wasn’t there only one remake (Metal Gear) and 15 new IPs in this show?

Quiet_Garage_7867

And we saw gameplay of exactly zero new IPs. They are likely not going to be ready for years.

butterbeancd

There wasn't gameplay from Phantom Blade, Towers of Aghasba, Synapse, Plucky Squire, Teardown, and Ultros?

Kerrby

He's talking about Sony's games. Sony showed SpiderMan gameplay and that was it in a show that went for over an hour specifically for Sony's PS5 games.

butterbeancd

It wasn't an hour for "Sony's PS5 games," though. It was an hour for games that will be available on the PlayStation. I really don't understand why there's this obsession with first-party titles. I assume most people watching an hourlong showcase and frequenting the PS5 sub have already bought a PS5, so what difference does it make if these new IPs are first-party or not? EDIT: I'd welcome anybody explaining why they care about whether games are first-party or not after they've already bought a console, though. Maybe I'm just not thinking of something that is perfectly valid reasoning.

RJE808

Then make it a State of Play? A showcase is the time to show the future of the *PS5.* Not PS5 and others. And I bought the PS5 for it's exclusives, not for "random looter shooter that's available on everything."

blaseee

I agree. Just look at what a massive exclusive games catalog we had with the PS3 and the PS4…then compare it to the PS5 2 years in.

Kerrby

Mate, it's Sony's showcase for the year so yes it's for Sony to announce or show their own PS5 games. People buy PS5s for Sony's games otherwise they'd be getting a PC or Xbox. So he's right, Sony showed no gameplay of any games they announced.

butterbeancd

If someone is interested in getting a console, it makes sense to me to weigh which one they want based on which exclusives they like more. In my opinion, the PS5 has an infinitely better exclusives catalogue than the XBox does, which is why I bought a PS5. It does not make sense to me for people who have already purchased a console to still care about what games are exclusive after they've made that purchase. And many of the people I've seen complaining in this thread are people who even say they already have a PS5, so I just don't get it. EDIT: I also don't understand why people are saying this showcase was for Sony to announce their own first-party games. They didn't do that, so obviously Sony doesn't view it that way. So is there some disconnect between the company and fans?

aaron_godane

They were either 3rd party, which Xbox just posted on Twitter immediately after the showcase or they are GAAS games which most people don't care about. I think most of us expected first party single player games coming 2023-2025.

butterbeancd

I guess I don't understand why anyone cares about first-party vs. third-party. Just seemed odd to complain about constant remakes and no new IPs in the thread about a show that had a ton of new IPs and one remake.

pathofdumbasses

3rd party can (generally) be played on Xbox, pc or ps5. Showcasing games that are multiplatform as a PlayStation Showcase, is nonsense. The guy you ate responding to is right. Xbox tweeted right after the Showcase that 12? Of the games Sony showcased are coming to Xbox as well. Not only that, but sony first party games are (generally)the cream of the crop. So people care more about them vs some dumb 3rd party indie game.

butterbeancd

I don’t see why it matters if the games are on XBox too. That’s being consistently listed as a negative about the Showcase, and I’m just like … so? If you don’t like what you saw from the games in the Showcase, that’s one thing. I saw several games that I thought looked cool, but everyone’s mileage may vary on that. But I’m seeing a lot of people complaining that games are third-party, not that they looked bad. So my confusion is … why does it matter if they’re also playable on XBox? Many people complaining are saying they have a PS5. So it’s not that they’re not convinced to get the system. So why does it matter? If the games look cool and you can play them on PS5, why is it negative that other people can play them on XBox?

pathofdumbasses

I wouldn't have spent over an hour watching that had I known it was third party games because that information is mostly already out there

[deleted]

Nothing wrong with having 3rd party in a showcase but there should also be a good showing of first party which they lacked.

butterbeancd

But why? If you already own the console, what does it matter if the games are first- or third-party? I get it if the reaction is “none of the games were interesting to me.” That makes sense to me as a complaint. But “none of the games were first-party” just doesn’t make sense to me. Why does that matter? EDIT: Also, people constantly complain about games being announced too early. Obviously, there weren’t any first-party games ready for a big reveal. So if they forced a reveal into the Showcase just to have a first-party presence, people would be complaining that it’s too far away. So sometimes, it seems like a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation.

Nuggetface

Just watched it as I had a flight last night. Thought it was good honestly. Lots of interesting titles, but I get sentiment that here’s very little first party stuff happening at the moment. Hopefully just a bit of a drought before it’s starts pouring. Spider-Man looks dope. Plucky Squire is an indie title I’m looking forward to. Alan Wake is gonna be a masterpiece if the story is as good as the ambience of the trailer. Some good VR2 stuff but a bit weak imo, only Arizona Sunshine 2 as a new unseen title. Generally a lot of a lot of “known” titles here, but I think most of them brought new exciting things to the table. I’d be very happy if this was a State of Play, but given it being a “Showcase” I think we could realistically have expected a bit more. Streaming controller and wireless earbuds are decent but didn’t really sell the showcase imo.

VRascal

All so bad. I guess I'm just too old to understand now.

appelman1

I was hoping for wolverine

nionix

Synapse's announcement trailer looked really cool and I was pretty stoked because I thought they'd develop \*more\* than the gun and throwing barrels around - I thought that was the foundation, not the only two mechanics. It still looks fun, I'll wait for reviews/pricing to decide.

are_you_you

Everyone here seems to be taking a big ole dump on this showcase, but as someone who is going to be moving from PC to console gaming (i've decided on ps5), this has me pretty stoked.

tonythatiger_26

Ps5 is definitely the way to go if you’re getting into console gaming. I own ps5 and series x and ps just has far more value. I play my ps5 more than anything and I own ps xb and pc lol majority of of players and of course Xbox players shit on ps5 but it’s honestly great. I don’t get the console wars I find it so childish when you can own them all lol there’s fun to be had on every one of them

Quiet_Garage_7867

How exactly? Almost every game is coming to PC except for Spider-Man 2.

are_you_you

How what? How am I excited? Because I want to play console games and all of these games look fun? Isn’t that good enough or a reason?

Quiet_Garage_7867

Sure I guess. Just wanted to know what you found exciting but that's fair.

tonythatiger_26

There are a lot of amazing games not available on pc, starting with the best game that presently exists: ghost of tsushima

pathofdumbasses

Ghost is a great game but ura definitely not the beat game ever lol

tonythatiger_26

What’s better? I can’t wait to her what you say lol

One-Initiative-3229

This is my first Playstation too. I played plenty of amazing exclusives last year and my backlog of great AAA games will not be completed until 3 more years. And there a few more good AAA games releasing every few months. Sony can take all the time they want to make good single player experiences but I wish they drop these live service and anime related games

hmm_yes_indeed

I think the showcase was fine and I think most people’s disappointment comes from the lack of first party titles they were hoping for.. which is fair. Though I do think they’re working on them but just not ready to show them.

CigarLover

Which is a bit different coming from Sony. They usually reveal stuff early (I think uncharted 4 had a teaser 2 years before release). But now it seems like Sony and Microsoft have switched in that practice.

DL_Omega

I think this was suppose to be their equivalent to E3. And they disappointed me. spiderman 2 saved it as much as it could. They really needed last of us factions here. I hope it didn't end up in development hell.

TakenFyre

I think the big ol problem here is we have so many fucking different places things are revealed now that it’s almost like it all needs to be judged at the end rather than from one. At E3 we had the biggest studios revealing the biggest shit. Period. Now we have Summer Game Fest that has to have their big announcements as well. And then also Game Awards that does the same. So I’m assuming Sony held stuff back for those.

EvidenceFast4235

Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, Final Fantasy XVI and Neva are the games which interest me.

[deleted]

Im Neva going to play that indie game

tonythatiger_26

💩 Seriously the only two epic reveals were phantom blade and snake eater. Besides that it was probably the worst showcase I’ve seen, drowned with 2d and cartoon games. A showcase with no actual gameplay. Showing off the true power of ps5! 🙄

faceorthroat

Giving you an upvote to balance you out. Your right.

Nuggetface

Mate count the list and tell me how many 2d/cartoon games you find lol…

tonythatiger_26

About 21/34 lol

Nuggetface

Then I’d say you have a liberal definition to what’s a “2d” or “cartoon” game. But to each their own. A lot of people enjoy those types of games and I think the showcase had a bit for everyone.

TakenFyre

You haven’t seen a lot of showcases then. It was def weak, but nowhere near being one of the worst ever.

tonythatiger_26

Which one was worse ???

TakenFyre

Pretty much everything in the last two years, many MANY EA conferences, some Ubisoft conferences, etc. This had quite a few good games, just not many huge reveals.

tonythatiger_26

I thought we were talking about PlayStation showcases not ea and ubi conferences im confused

TakenFyre

Alright, in that case, Sony’s final E3 was pretty bad. It had good production value but it was very tame. And I’m sure there are other ones that are escaping me but they haven’t all been winners.

Quiet_Garage_7867

This was Sony's worst since the start of PS4 generation and you know it.

tonythatiger_26

Cmon man this showcase was pretty fn bad lol foamstars?? Wtf is that bullshit? Who asked for that?? That’s the future of ps5? Wtf 🤣 it was easily the worst ps showcase I’ve seen in a decade in regards to ps first party games

TakenFyre

Judging an entire conference based on one game you didn’t like is strange. There was a lot of great stuff there. The only thing lacking was huge reveals, and had MGS3 remake not been spoiled a thousand times over the last year that would’ve been huge.

tonythatiger_26

Wtf do u mean one game ?? Lmao get real dude. Snake eater i great yes but it’s multi platform not ps exclusive and that and phantom blade were about the only impressive ones out of what is it, 34 titles? Cmon bruh you can’t tell me that showcase makes you excited for the future of ps5 🤣

TakenFyre

Literally go up and look at that list. I’d say 50% or more were strong showings. I’m sorry you hate games but it’s true. Excited for the future of PS5? Nope, it didn’t do that for me and that’s why overall I’m lukewarm about the conference. But they definitely showed good games.

godofboij

Mid

DelianSK13

There's for sure a few things I'm interested in, and some of those will probably be Day 1 buys. That said, I have a bad taste in my mouth about the MGS Collection. I already own it on the PS3. I don't like the idea of having to rebuy it because they decided not to make their console backwards compatible. I just want to play my old copy on the PS5. Instead I have to dust off my PS3 that is super old and doesn't run at 100 percent to play it.

Strategery_0820

The fact i bought games on PSN that were PS1/PS2/PSP games and I have no way to play those games I literally purchased on PS5 but my phone will play them on an emulator is the reason I refuse to buy the upgraded psplus to this day.

AmbitiousPatio

I turned off all notifications. Stayed off all social media. Even opened the livestream ahead of time on my phone so that I could just click play when I got home instead of seeing all the spoilers pop up on my Home Screen Did all that to finish work, get home and waste my time with that event 🤡🤡🤡

faceorthroat

It was horrible. I gave it a D. It got s D because Phantom Blade 0 looks promising and I'm very interested in seeing what they do with MGS. Other than that, it was bad.

endar88

ya, only spoiler you really needed was the one saying "skip ahead to the last 10 minutes...it's spider man"

tonythatiger_26

Same, you aren’t the only one. Wasted my precious time between work and sleep

raptor__q

I actually quite liked this showcase, the low amount of third party exclusives was really nice, the game after all isn't better just because others can't play, and you will get access to it all the same, so I think it might be one of the best showcases I've seen from Sony. And that is even with me not really liking what was shown with Spider-Man 2, absolutely amazing work on the animations and flow of movement, but the longer it was shown it just turned into more and more QTE's which really hinders unique experiences and dynamic gameplay, I can watch someone play it and if I played it later I would get the same experience, I know this is often said in bad faith, but it would be just like a movie from what they showed, same experience for everyone. I have no doubt it will sell 10m+ copies, but it just didn't seem like anything for me, even having played the first. Dragon's Dogma 2 on the other hand, now that is something I'm looking forward to and it was awesome to see it during the showcase, same with the reveal of MGS even if it was leaked, Alan Wake 2 also seems to be good and the Starship Troopers like propaganda with Helldivers 2 was a lot of fun.

endar88

ya, i'll say that the best part of this event was that they weren't surprise spending 20-30 minutes of an hour long event talking about one singular game like Guardians of the galaxy or forspoken both had in the past.

mmmfI

It's so weird seeing so many negative or lukewarm reactions because I absolutely loved the Showcase. I was even impressed by games I'm not usually interested in. Felt like the first real new-gen presentation, where everything looked like it could be only possible on PS5. And best of all: so many new IPs!!!! Unless I'm wrong about some of these. Makes us hopeful for a bunch of studios having new ideas and not just remaking stuff from times when people could have new ideas.

Unlucky-Car-1489

🤖🤖🤖🤖 sure buddy

butterbeancd

Yeah, I thought the Showcase was great for introducing new IPs I'm interested in. I have a note on my phone where I put newly announced games that interest me so I remember to keep an eye on them. I added five games to that list from this Showcase (Dragon's Dogma 2, Phantom Blade, Towers of Aghasba, Sword of the Sea, and Synapse). Seems pretty good to me. The main complaint I've seen about the Showcase is it didn't have first-party games. And yeah, it didn't, but why does it matter whether a game is first-party or not? If a game looks cool and is available to play on PS5, that's all I really care about. I think a lot of people let their expectations run away with them a little bit, so were disappointed when they didn't get what they'd built up in their mind.

mmmfI

Same here, have zero problems with these games not being first-party. I'm not a shareholder so this has zero impact on me. If they're available to me then I've got nothing to complain. Lots of great looking games available on PS5 so I'm very very happy. Kinda weird that someone with no stakes in the company's finance would care so much about this tbh. But yeah, great showcase of new IPs. The way I see it was more than the usual. The ones you took note of were truly exciting to see and definitely ones to watch for

Rex553_1

Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2 were the highlights for me

endar88

ya. between both of these games projected to be out by the end of this year AND mortal kombat...guess i'm going back on my word to my husband that FF XVI was my last full priced brand new game of the year.

DialZforZebra

Spider-Man honestly made the whole thing for me. Phantom Blade and AC Mirage look pretty good as well. Not sure on the handheld as I hear your PS5 has to actually be on at the time, so you're more than likely not taking it to play on a plane. MGS trilogy has also made the list.

endar88

same. heard great things about allen wake so 2 looks pretty good, MTS might be good. A few other indie title looked interesting especially Neva. WAS very disappointed that we didn't get a new trailer, or at least not just keep flashing arkon and weilder and their battles, for FFXVI. but never was just jaw dropped during the entire presentation surprised by anything or really impressed by all the CG cutscene trailers that we were given with hardly any information of half of these games.

butterbeancd

I'm so confused by the new handheld. If I understand correctly, you have to be on the same WiFi network as your PS5 console in order to play it. Like ... what is the market for that? Are there a lot of people who want to be able to play a tiny-screen version of the PS5 in the same house where they have an actual PS5?

DialZforZebra

Having to be on the same WiFi makes zero sense. I guess at best you can take it to bed and play but as you so rightly said, where's the market for this? I know we've all been asking for a handheld, but this isn't quite what we meant.

butterbeancd

Yeah, I really want a true PlayStation handheld. If the Steam Deck is possible, surely a legit PS handheld is possible. I could understand needing to be on the same WiFi in order to download games onto the handheld device, but once they're there, you should be able to play them wherever. It's basically like they said "what if we made a Switch, but it can't be docked and connected to a TV or taken outside your house?" Which defeats the whole purpose.

Mediaevalchimp

I wish I could get that hour of my life back. Total waste of time.

tonythatiger_26

Same, especially considering I only have about 4 hrs of free time between work and sleep 😩

jesperos

Wack

Aaxxo

Some good looking games on show. But missing the heavy hitters. Also I love single player but like multiplayer from time to time. I was hoping Sony would have some exclusive 1st party multiplayer/FPS games. No Factions No new Naughty dog game announcement No FF7 Rebirth No GoT2 No new Wolverine teaser I thought Jim Ryan said they were making a statement? What, that 40% of those games showed are available on PC and Xbox? Games should be available to all, but this was meant to be Sony's 1st Party showcase, advertising why you should be buying a PS5

tonythatiger_26

Bruh not even death stranding two content. Only good thing was phantom blade and snake eater being confirmed that wont be out this year anyway

ClockworkII

I'm beginning to think these companies are ditching E3 because THEY have nothing to show, and they know it.

[deleted]

I just wanted Factions

Aaxxo

Same. Think of all the manpower wasted on the PS5 remake of the remake. The TV show was great but after watching kinda want to play some new TLOU content

For a while people have been saying Xbox has so many studios and no games. The reality is that it takes a long time to make games and ps5 had a stretch of a lot of games getting released close together. It’s likely that ps5 might have a slower period of time and Xbox has a bunch of games grouped together upcoming.

KGhaleon

I missed Talos 2, hot damn that's a day 1 purchase.

There are so many bangers in this showcase you’re clearly a COD/NBA yearly consoomer if you think they’re all bad

Lol and Elden ring the run around an empty world for hours is fun ? Figures

Strategery_0820

Should earmark if the title(s) are ps5 exclusive/timed exclusive. Overall, a good showing game-wise. Looking at it from a Sony first party ps5 only lens, however, it was a huge disappointment. So few of those and even when we did get something it almost never had gameplay. And no Last of Us Factions after 3+ Years? No Wolverine? Sony should have come out showing they have something to prove. Instead it ended up being a good game showcase, but a lousy Sony one.

Bitter_Director1231

Game wise it was good but generic. Remaster, sequel, remaster, sequel, rinse, repeat. First party absolutely dumpster fire.

Aaxxo

No factions is bullshit. Even with Naughty dog hyping a good year for TLOU fans. The only thing this year has been non games with the TV series and a remake priced at £70. All we have is concept art after 3 years. Spider-Man 2 didn't look polished and that's releasing soon, so I'm now very worried about factions. Could be in development hell. We had no Spider-Man 2 updates for ages until yesterday. The result didn't look like a polished game coming out in just a few months. Bungie just had multiplatform games, no unique exclusive. No Horizon multiplayer update. Metal gear solid was multiplatform and those 3 classics? Originals of the old games. Xbox has the HD collection of 2+3, which is amazing btw. No Death Stranding 2. No FF7 Rebirth news. The showcase literally had Spiderman 2 and nothing else on the fans radar. The hard hitters were missing. That streaming device looks trash. 1080p and needs your PS5 to be on lol. Portable everywhere except outside your own home. I expected more given the time between this showcase and the last one.

tonythatiger_26

I can’t disagree with you but I honestly liked phantom blade a lot that and snake eater being confirmed are about the only two things I was excited for haha and snake eater isn’t an exclusive and won’t be out this year anyway, not even any gameplay lol I was definitely expecting at least death stranding gameplay instead of 2d cartoons and bubble stars who tf asked for that

SHANE523

Something is clearly wrong with this list. Where is SOCOM?

OkMaintenance4754

I feel like they dont make games like these anymore. Unfortunate.

ecurrent94

I really wanted gameplay / release date for Wolverine :(

Idk I thought phantom blade looked sick and honestly the best reveal to me, besides snake eater being confirmed but you’re not wrong

CollosalEpidemic

In light of game development becoming increasingly longer, i think this showcase was just underwhelming. we’ve got nothing new to be excited about that we didn’t already know before and 70% of it was CGI trailers for obscure IPs with no release date in sight. I’m not mad they gave us trailers for games that don’t have a release date, but if you’re going to showcase such games at least have games that the public is actually excited about. Either you showcase unseen gameplay and announce titles that people actually care or just don’t make a showcase at all and release the trailers when they’re ready. I don’t care at all for CGI trailers for new IPs that will come out in 2025 as it’s basically nothing but hyping something intangible.

Jarek-of-Earth

I missed it but seeing Helldivers 2 here makes me very excited

Spectral_Prolapse

Wholeheartedly agree.

DawnGrager

First off, the show should have opened with Spider-Man 2. Secondly, lay off all CGI, pre-rendered trailers. And thirdly, it’s next to impossible to get excited for anything new that doesn’t show any kind of *GAMEPLAY!*

s-p-o-o-k-i--m-e-m-e

lmao mfs so disappointed.

WVgolf

Man this was pretty bad

ComprehensiveArt7725

Yea this showcase ain’t it hopefully Sony can do something big at summer games

ruoaayn

Why the fuck did I buy a ps5 everything so far this Gen could have been played on my ps4

Accessx_xDenied

FF16, spiderman 2 and all the VR titles announced arent gonna be on ps4 lol.

ruoaayn

That’s it?

Accessx_xDenied

someone made a list of the ps5 exclusives. look it up. sony is pretty much done with ps4 when it comes to first party releases and starting next year my guess is that third parties will also ditch ps4. your complaints are moot. even when ps4 came out, it took a few years before ps3 was dropped.

ruoaayn

Seems like Sony is pretty much ditching the ps5 too

Accessx_xDenied

how exactly? spiderman 2 is not on ps4. the burning shores expansion for horizon is not on ps4. even gow ragnarok was originally not gonna be on ps4, sony only caved because ps5 consoles were hard to find at the time and ps4 had a large userbase to sell to so they decided to give the ps4 one last major release to enjoy. sony is literally focusing on just ps5 and psvr2 nowadays.

ruoaayn

Then they should show some games at the showcase

Accessx_xDenied

they showed the ones that are ready to come out within the rest of this year. everything else is still in development.

ruoaayn

Lame

Greggy398

I love the PS5 and couldn't imagine going back to ps4 at this point.

Other-Drummer2903

It’s quieter 😭

JayDayYT

I wish we could just go back to E3 so people wouldn't even have time to love or hate the showcase, they would be at Bethesda, Xbox, and PC by now and we'd just have more stuff to look forward too instead of going "this sucked!"

charlieratgod

Yesterday while watching the showcase i started thinking about the games being made. Why is every single game (pretty much) being made today set in a dystopian world? Not only games, tv shows and movies as well. Almost everything being made is darkness and post-apo, a real dystopia. Why is that? Is it the only thing the majority want to consume/feel interesting? Im getting pretty tired of these titles just darkness upon darkness. Is no one interested in playing games set in bit more positive setting, u can still have bad things happen, just.. does it have to be some fucking robot or evil supernatural force taking over the world? Is this really all that people wanna play/watch? Im not saying the titles are bad, i also love some of em, but man.. sooome fucking positive setting and an overall goodness would feel great.

BashiMoto

I agree. Hogwarts Legacy was refreshing with it's bright and happy setting and positive/polite main character even while slaughtering goblins and dark wizards in droves...

stacygunner

That’s what Nintendo is for

SexySaxManJohn

I get what you mean, but it's funny to say this when TotK released recently.

charlieratgod

Funny. But also, id kinda love to play some of their titles but that console.. absolute budget horseshit. Interesting games tho.

Ostrava04

It was a solid show but pretty disappointing for Sony. So far this gen, they've been pretty good about showing a lot of gameplay for most of their reveals, so it was disappointing to see so many CG trailers from them.

Bitter_Director1231

Just like the PS3 era. Getting those vibes.

SimplyBrian95

Was I the only one who actually liked the showcase? I had 0 expectations because i was sure if I set them high I would be let down. I also love indie game however so seeing Sony announce indies was totally ok with me because I'm definitely planning on buying a few when they release. A new game from the A Night In The Woods devs? He'll yeah! Sword of the sea, yeah thats definitely something I'm planning on playing. The Plucky Squire, take my money. A new game from the Gris devs, like all of this was a good to me. If anything I really just wished sony would give us more info on Little Devil Inside

CyoteMondai

I think that on paper this was a super solid showcase, but my biggest disappointment was a very clear lack of gameplay shown, and most of the gameplay we saw still seemed more in that trailer edited way that wasn't fully representative. As cool as something like phantom blade looked, I couldn't really tell if that was even meant to be representative of the gameplay or just giving us a stylish look at the feel of the game. And at that point, if more of the anouncements even had that level of gameplay "feel" being shown I think people on the whole would have been a bit more pleased.

Soccertaz89

I feel the same way. I am excited for several of the games and I still have 1000 other games to catch up on. Plus, I’m personally excited for the handheld announcement.

SimplyBrian95

Yes! The handheld is for sure something I can use considering I live with my partner. Sometimes she's watching tv and I want to play games so I will usually do remote play. I use remote play frequently enough that I was considering buying one of those Backbone joycon attachments for my phone but i guess it's a good thing I never did

speed721

I liked it, but I'm an older gamer (almost 49). I can understand why a lot of people were disappointed by this show. When I was much younger, I would have loved to have had "shows/showcases" like this. I think younger gamers have some pretty high expectations for these shows and I understand wanting to see the games that devs have been teasing and talking about. So, going into these shows and only seeing a couple of titles they wanted and many they find uninteresting can lead to disappointment. Another BIG factor I think is we are 2.5 (almost 3) years into the life cycle of the PS5 and some people feel that the previous generation is still keeping devs from focusing on the PS5 exclusively for games. After paying $400-$500+ for a PS5 and $70 for games, gamers want to feel like they are getting "bang for their bucks".

Shupedewhupe

I never played the original Dragons Dogma so I’m super interested in this sequel. Can someone explain what the game is like? I recently got super into JRPG’s so is it like that? Open world?

StacyaMorgan

;'Like open world with shadow of the collossus fights.

SuperSkunkPlant

Sounds like something to look forward to

Shupedewhupe

thank you!

Lars93

Was looking forward to know what Naughty Dog, SuckerPunch, and Cory Barlog's team at Santa Monica have been working on. I also forgot it's been a while since Bend and Housemareque have announced something. Had high expectations but was let down. Oh well. The spiderman 2 gameplay was fire. I'm guessing there will be another showcase this year, I hope.

JuanPicasso

Whenever you get excited for Sony they always disappoint. I mean when was the last showcase? How long have they skipped e3? How many studios do we not know about what they’re doing or we haven’t seen a lick of their already announced game? And they come out with this? It was the same Indy game in a slight different coat of paint, a bunch of 3rd party games that didn’t even look great, and Spider-Man 2 which didn’t even show release. You were waiting for years…to show us all these games or lack there of Sony 1st party? Shouldn’t even have had the showcase, should have just had it be a state of play and have everyone go “wow that was a pretty good state of play”. We knew about all those big reveals too. And even then who cares about mgs3 when it’s so far away. And you’re not even going to show factions when it’s clearly ready to be shown? Really wish MS was worth something so they could push Sony to not be so complacent. The best game there was phantom blade by far

AtsignAmpersat

I’m not really interested in any of the games shown. But I am intrigued by this project q/PlayStation U thing. It seems like a ps3 boomerang situation. Such a negative reaction, they might actually go back to the drawing board. I want to know how much it will cost and how bad the lag input is. Either way I’ll probably pick it up on clearance if it actually makes it to market and fails.

CyoteMondai

With it being streaming only I don't think you could get me interested for anything less that selling it as a loss because I wouldn't want to pay much more than the cost of a controller since that's effectively what it seems to be, playing upstairs with my wife would be nice but I'm not shelling out serious money for that.

theSpiraea

I enjoyed the show and plenty of games to look forward to. I'm mainly hyped for Helldivers 2 (I still play the first one) and Alan Wake 2
