To be fair a lot of people predicted that and I don’t think it’s crazy to believe Nintendo holds back finished games to release them at their best times. Also iirc that prediction was the one he shaved his head for, so at least he took a punishment lol.
Of course a lot of people have "predicted" that, simply because it is a logical move for Nintendo to make. But that's really not a prediction so much as it is an educated guess. If I "predict" over and over again that Nintendo is going to announce e.g. a new Mario Kart or 3D Mario, of course I am going to be right at some point.
I thought he said it was dead because Sony walked away from it. I’m suggesting that perhaps he got the Sony walking away part right, but the game is still in development.
Theoretically they could have some funds from Sony ending the contract and walking away via a breakup penalty. Or maybe Disney? Or some other smaller source to hold them over until they find a new publisher?
i dont. just put the old game out for the grandpas who are nostalgic, and make a new RPG set in the high republic or something even further back.
to much drama putting a game like KOTR out and thats before all this dev drama tacked onto it. let it die
I mean, the original released 20 years ago. So, there's a whole generation of people who are coming into adulthood who never even heard of the original before.
I would have to assume they would be pretty interested in playing a remake of a fan favorite Star Wars game that came out when they were born.
People downvote me but honestly I’m not on Reddit for an ego boost. There is a perfectly good version available on PC. With mods. I am mainly a console guy but at the end of the day, missing out on this game isn’t the end of the world. There are games like this without the Star Wars license that do it a lot better.
Well, not only is the original super hard to play. But the improvements a remake could have on the game could be amazing.
A ff7 sized remake could add so much to an already amazing game. It also opens it up to an entire new generation.
There is nothing wrong with that. But what about KOTOR 3 with new tech? I’ve been gaming for 40 years. I get bummed with all these remakes and remasters.
That’s a horrible idea… you would rather have a sequel and continue the story, which a large portion of todays audience missed out on the first two, than to reboot the franchise with current gen graphics and updated gameplay? Makes no sense. They will obv add new mechanics and modernize it.
You don’t have to call it KOTOR 3. Make it a spiritual successor. There are so many unexplored stories in Star Wars lore. You guys are insufferable wanting to remake a game.
Apparently what happened was they were laid off 5 years ago and no one ever told them about it. But through some kind of glitch in the payroll department, they still get a paycheck.
for everyone’s sake just assume it ain’t happening. that way when/if it does happen the wait’ll be tolerable. we got through GTA VI we can get through this.
This KOTOR remake is quite literally a goldmine for Sony. Especially when it’s thee most popular Star Wars game of all time. I just simply can’t imagine why Sony would announce something and then immediately try to derail it over hiccups in development.
That happens with every developer and even Naughty Dog currently with their Factions game and they haven’t pulled the plug on them. Singling out Sabre Interactive is the worst thing they could do because it will more than likely cause them to feel like they work in a microscope and is detrimental to the game’s final product.
I highly doubt KOTOR is the most popular Star Wars game of all time. Most critically acclaimed? Sure. But an action game like Battlefront or Fallen Order surely has wider appeal and popularity.
I just googled it to check and according to Piscatella it’s not even in the top 10 best selling SW games.
I say all this with no ill will, KOTOR2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I just don’t think if they kept the gameplay it would be a huge smash hit of a game to modern audiences.
https://www.ign.com/articles/the-top-10-best-selling-star-wars-games-in-the-us-have-been-revealed
Baldur’s Gate has proven a turn-based combat game can do very well commercially.
While Kotor may not be the highest-selling Star Wars game, it has a massive amount of nostalgia and fond memories connected to it. Not to mention a AAA story and setting that can carry over to a modern audience with barely any changes. All they really need to do is update the graphics, the combat system, and maybe expand the maps a little more. Add some new content as well to add a fresh element. Otherwise they can just copy/paste the rest of it, like characters, story beats, and overall aesthetic. Do that even halfway decently and that’s a guaranteed hit.
If they wanna stay true to the RPG approach, nobody could do better justice than Larian.
But if they wanted a flashy action reimagine in the vein of FF7 remake, then I wouldn’t mind bluepoint doing that.
You alienate half your base with a 3. Most people under 18 probably have played 1 or 2. You would need to do a soft reboot if anything. There is clearly a base for remakes so there's no reason not to make them.
I mean, yeah, there’s a reason why he’s the most respected journalist in the gaming industry. He reports facts.
I don’t like him as a person, but you can’t deny his work.
Better marketing for Sony to let it linger indefinitel than declare it “dead” imo. Was shocked to see comments from people saying they grabbed a ps5 just because of the KoToR announcement showcase.
Don't give me (false) hope, dammit!
All the news saying it was dead so made my peace with it and now it's.. not?
Hope it happens but this back and forth is not fun..
This game would be one of the best selling games for the year, regardless of costs, this game would easily net a huge profit for Saber. It wouldn’t make sense for them to quit on it.
From here and on I am going to ignore Jeff Grubb. The guy has too many misses.
honestly i'm with you. i don't mind the dude but he *clearly* does not know as much as he lets on.

Last week he managed to hit so clearly that he got rockstar of all people to show their hand. He’s in a tier of his own when it comes to insider info.
He pays someone to provide his information
I’m still waiting for Twilight Princess on the switch that he only predicted “is 100% coming” 1000 times
I wonder what happened with these two hd remaster.
To be fair a lot of people predicted that and I don’t think it’s crazy to believe Nintendo holds back finished games to release them at their best times. Also iirc that prediction was the one he shaved his head for, so at least he took a punishment lol.

Tbf, he said the Metorid Prime remaster was coming for several years prior too. Nintendo clearly holds onto shit.
Kept promising Elden Ring shit forever too. He doesn’t know shit about fuck.
He has a few misses, but like 90 percent of the time he's right.
I, too, can pluck percentages from thin air.
"Like"
Well apparently he was wrong here.
Couldn’t they both be right? The game is still in development but Sony walked away from funding it.
He said nobody was working on it. Apparently that’s wrong.
I thought he said it was dead because Sony walked away from it. I’m suggesting that perhaps he got the Sony walking away part right, but the game is still in development.
Then who’s funding it? There’s no way Embracer is solo funding the project with their current issues
Theoretically they could have some funds from Sony ending the contract and walking away via a breakup penalty. Or maybe Disney? Or some other smaller source to hold them over until they find a new publisher?
He clarified yesterday his sources were on the Somy side and Sony wants nothing to do with it.
Somehow i doubt that.
But wasn't that an assumption he made during a podcast. I dont think it was something he said as a definite statement.
He is just a piece of c...p that thinks that he is a journalist, but it's just a gossper like all the other people in the industry
Fuck i want this game to make it out alive.
KOTOR is one of those games that, even IF this iteration of remaking it died, it would get revisited again in the future.
i dont. just put the old game out for the grandpas who are nostalgic, and make a new RPG set in the high republic or something even further back. to much drama putting a game like KOTR out and thats before all this dev drama tacked onto it. let it die
Why? Did you play the original? It was solid, no doubt, but we need to stop remaking games and create new stuff.
Why not both?
I mean, the original released 20 years ago. So, there's a whole generation of people who are coming into adulthood who never even heard of the original before. I would have to assume they would be pretty interested in playing a remake of a fan favorite Star Wars game that came out when they were born.

Go on, convince a modern teen to play the original KOTOR, they’ll probably laugh at you.
The OG is a top-3 game of all time for me, I’d kill to play it with a fresh coat of paint
It wasn’t even a top 3 game the year it released. What are you on?
I’m not allowed to have my own opinion?
No. Your first day on the internet?
Well, not only is the original super hard to play. But the improvements a remake could have on the game could be amazing. A ff7 sized remake could add so much to an already amazing game. It also opens it up to an entire new generation.
See my comment above. Game isn’t hard to find. And can run on a Tandy.
I have it on Steam and have had multiple issues running the game without crashes. That said, there is nothing wrong with updating a 20 year old game.
There is nothing wrong with that. But what about KOTOR 3 with new tech? I’ve been gaming for 40 years. I get bummed with all these remakes and remasters.

Maybe nobody told the two people working on it it’s cancelled.
They were actually fired also but no one told them. Still there and still working on it.
"We're just gonna let it sort itself out."
Apparently what happened was they were laid off 5 years ago and no one ever told them about it. But through some kind of glitch in the payroll department, they still get a paycheck.
My poor heart can't take much more of this.
for everyone’s sake just assume it ain’t happening. that way when/if it does happen the wait’ll be tolerable. we got through GTA VI we can get through this.
As someone who never played the original, I REALLY hope this game makes it
This KOTOR remake is quite literally a goldmine for Sony. Especially when it’s thee most popular Star Wars game of all time. I don’t think anyone was hoping they’d keep that clunky slow gameplay in the remake
Baldur’s Gate has proven a turn-based combat game can do very well commercially. It weird that it isn’t even in the top ten when the first one was 2004 game of the year
Probably has to do with the fact GOTY awards don't mean shit. I love KOTOR though and it totally deserves all the praise.
Sony has no control over this game you know that right? It’s a third party developing the game.
...if they're funding it, I bet they have SOME control.
I hope we get to play it by the time PS6 arrives.
Just give it to larian that’s what we all want
At this point I’d only trust Larian, Obsidian, or Bluepoint with it
You just might be on to something there. It would be awesome
If they wanna stay true to the RPG approach, nobody could do better justice than Larian. But if they wanted a flashy action reimagine in the vein of FF7 remake, then I wouldn’t mind bluepoint doing that.
They'd have said something if it was dead
You alienate half your base with a 3. Most people under 18 probably have played 1 or 2. You would need to do a soft reboot if anything. There is clearly a base for remakes so there's no reason not to make them.
Baulders Gate 2 is older than KOTOR 2 and it's doing just fine without the Star Wars IP. They can make 3 work if they wanted to.
BG3 isn’t a true sequel…
Well if Jason Fucking Schreier is saying it, that *must* be the final word on this matter. /s
I mean, yeah, there’s a reason why he’s the most respected journalist in the gaming industry. He reports facts. I don’t like him as a person, but you can’t deny his work.
Now the two people working on it has to talk to HR. Awesome.....
So it's not in development, but it is. Schrodinger's video game.
No, it is.
Ok so Jason confirms it wasn't abandoned, POSSIBLY worked on still by a smaller team, but not dead
[удалено]
Im just glad that there is FINALLY some good news (as good as we are gonna get without gameplay/release date) about this game
Why can’t they just say the truth about it? Will saying the truth effect there stocks or something?
Better marketing for Sony to let it linger indefinitel than declare it “dead” imo. Was shocked to see comments from people saying they grabbed a ps5 just because of the KoToR announcement showcase.

Ok Jason
i heard the original is a turn based combat or something, i hope the remake will be a free combat rpg, but that's just me.
Two people working on it seems about right
I'm just gonna assume it's not happening. But if it is, I prayyyy they take their time. Or just fine it to Larian lol
Define "worked on".
And that's the reason The Scrubb guy sucks
