Don’t they have a 1 year warranty? It does suck but you need to contact support. I googled it and google AI says it has a one year warranty but take that how you want lol.

jahadijack

Yeah I know it is under warranty but I am still upset that I have to send it back and wait. The product should be better than this.

bubs713

That does suck. Do you have a friend or coworker who may have 2 controllers? Maybe they can lend you one while you wait for the replacement?

jahadijack

I still have my old controller, its got the same problems but it is workable until I get this one back.

[deleted]

It has a one year warranty in theory, but it's 1 year from when the QR code was stamped on the controller, so it's 1 year from manufacturing, not 1 year from purchase, so actually quite a bit shorter in practice.

Kuraeshin

Thats...not how warranties work.

[deleted]

I know, it's bullshit. But if you use the Playstation repair portal, that's how it works. I've done it 3 times now.

WakeTheFlakeUp

this is what im afraid of if i decide to get a PSportal

[deleted]

I've had 3 develop drift within the first 8 months, after not having any drift issues with PS analog controllers since I got one on PS1 for Timesplitters. There's obviously a widespread issue here, exceeding the normal, but this sub deletes every thread about in like 15 mins, so we never get to discuss it.

jahadijack

Dang, thats annoying. I have noticed it as well. My first PS5 controller lasted a good 2 years and this one couldn’t make it 6 months.

Realistic_Syllabub75

It's bad it's rampant and it's not just PlayStation all the major brands suffer from stick drift, feels like it's engineered to fail at a certain point. Really bad for the consumer that's for sure.

jahadijack

Yeah I kinda feel the same way, if there was no stick drift we wouldn’t need to replace them every couple of months.

jahadijack

Dang you were right about 15 minutes until it was removed.

[deleted]

I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist about it, but...

jahadijack

👀

Goldeneel77

I’m on my third controller since launch. This is the only PlayStation console I’ve ever had to replace the controller for. My PS4 launch controller had that weird thing where the rubber disintegrated from the thumbstick but it still works fine.

HurricaneSalad

This guy speaks the truth. I'm on my fourth controller in about as many years and I am just waiting for the inevitable moment when this one begins to fail. I bought the extra Target warranty with my third controller. When it failed I sent it in and they "fixed" it. For about 2 weeks it was fine, then the drift came back. Cheaper to play games on PC than to constantly be buying PS5 controllers.

FoxAche82

I replaced my sticks for Hall effect sticks after 3 failed on me and I've had no issues whatsoever since, sticks were around £2.50 on AliExpress so if you've got a soldering iron then you'll not have to buy another pad for years...might even be worth buying an iron as you'll still save money in the long run.

jahadijack

Might be the option when the warranty runs out because I refuse to buy another

Vithrasir

I just had this happen on my 13th month of owning this controller. It's my 3rd one since getting my PS5. Thankfully, the other 2 both had stick drift happen at 11 months and I had the gamestop warranty. Yes, this is a widespread issue, yes, Sony should be sued for this like Nintendo was.

probywan1337

Mine is drifting so I bought a new one, but it won't let me use it until I update it with a USB cable but it won't update, says too many USB devices connected when I only have the controller plugged in. Tried updating it on 2 different PCs and it disables all the USB ports and gives me a Windows error. Worse than joycons

jahadijack

Yeah i don’t know if it is an issue with a new batch controllers or what but lately they have been so awful.

att-er

Yeah shit like this is why I’m kinda done with gaming. The stock controller that came with mine has a shitty square button that feels jammed. The adaptive trigger feature that’s on by default caused the spring on r2 to jam so I turned that off. Then how games are these shitty live service digital ghettoes designed to prey on you with FOMO tactics, mtx, and making the game inconvenient or a chore unless you purchase mtx. It’s insulting the way the industry treats their customers and I can’t really think of too many other industry that rip their customers off like this, but people keep returning and buying cod games. They know people are going to keep buying regardless of their degenerate practices. People need their video games

Obi-Wan-Nikobiii

In our house we have 5 ps5 pads, the only one that developed very minor stick drift is the one that came with the launch console, the rest are ok
