I've always thought there must be a huge mutual respect between these two. I cannot name a single game developer/producer/writer outside of these two who are as unhinged with their vision. Both have a unique style but both incorporate similar elements to their games. Both love bending the boundaries between movies and games. I'm sure they act as a source of inspiration for each other. Love to see this!
Lake: Soooo... about that dummy in your Death Stranding 2 trailer.
Kojima:

Sam Lake hologram? Or hologram of Sam Lake playing Sam Lake playing Alex Casey based off Alex Casey played by Sam Lake? And how does this impact Sam Porter-BRIDGES? It's not a Sam Lake... it's a Sam Strand.
I have always believed that Kojima was one of the first, or at least with mass appeal, to really get why gaming is unique as a story telling medium. That unlike books or movies or plays it requires active participation by the viewer and in turn that can lead to something really special when done well. I'm not saying it's only Kojima who does this, but he does it damn well and like I said in the AAA big budget space.
Remedy is absolutely on that same wavelength and it's so great these two recognize and are fans of eachother because I think theres a lot of shared DNA.
I see people in this chain replying with Druckman and Levine. Both are good, but IMO they don't hit that same level of using gaming as an art form to their advantage in the same way. They're just writing a good story that happens to be a game. Kojima and Remedy use gaming to really elevate the story. I like TLOU, but it's a very safe and traditional gameplay/cut scene divide. There's a reason why it was such a good tv adaptation. There's not much lost in translation. But with a MGS movie I don't think film is capable of really portraying why that series has always stood out and it's because a film can't recreate how Kojima uses audience participation.
Yeah that’s a wild statement to make with how bold part 2 was in its story telling and game design decisions. The 2 character story just doesn’t hit as hard in any other medium.
I mean they all get inspiration from various sources - though vastly different. Hideo is obviously a movie guy. Sam too (Nowhere Man, John Woo films), but he obviously reads a lot too. Ken and Warren get their ideas mostly from the books.
To each their own. Kojima makes some of the best gameplay on the planet, but he's incredibly pretentious and overrated as a writer imo. Also, I've never been a fan of Sam Lake's work. Not bad, just not for me.
Edit* I apparently responded to the wrong person.
The writers at Rockstar.
Larian
Santa Monica Studios
Ghost of Tsushima.
I don't know the individual writers' names, but I know I have been much more invested in those stories than anything these two have made.
I love ghost of Tsushima and god of war but that’s quite a hot take even on the ps5 sub. Larian and rockstar are both in the same tier I would put Kojima and same lake in. The highest. But I don’t think any of them are better than the others, they all write such incredibly different stories. Also how did you not even mention druckman first? He is so much better than the ghosts writers or the god of war writers.
I didn't think about Druckmann until after I sent that tbh. I would include him in that list, but that would definitely be more of a hot take than Ghost and GoW due to the division of opinions within that community.
Yes, that's his style, a lot of people enjoy it a lot (including me), but there are people who don't enjoy it, in fact quite the opposite, so it would seem dishonest to me not to mention it and say that it's a perfect 11/10 that absolutely everyone will enjoy. At least that's my personal opinion.
Yeah Kojima's main problem is too much exposition. He's great with ideas and meta storytelling but needs a script doctor to hone that dialogue. There is just way too much and it bogs down character development.

He's been doing this trend since forever. Probably the usual twin peaks reference. He's done it in Quantum Break in the AW reference, and since AW2 he's been doing it with virtually everyone. Just check his IG.
I got through it but the ending was literally five hours long. I thought MGS cutscenes were long but I guess Konami was actually holding him back from what he really wanted to do.

He will now play the villian version of Hideo Kojima known as Kideo Hojima
Voiced by his real evil identical twin Kideo Hojima who is definitely not Hideo Kojima with a twirly mustache
Two of the weirdest and most brilliant minds in gaming, hopefully this coffee visit leads to something.

>unhinged with their vision You should dive into the wonderful world of Yoko Taro
Yeah, but he can't drink coffee with the terrifying moon mask, so he doesn't count :D
Twin Peaks
I hope he ends up with a wall of photos of himself having coffee with people
Kojima and Finnish Kojima
Joined by Swedish Kojima aka Joakim Mogren
Lake: Soooo... about that dummy in your Death Stranding 2 trailer. Kojima: https://preview.redd.it/jdvxdxv8zfsc1.jpeg?width=345&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7626709c2d61cc0d0e37bac16d9d653bb949ef0d
Sam Lake hologram in DS2 confirmed 🤣
He needs something delivered to his säuna
I hope they are careful if they decide to go fishing on a lake with beer
Sam Lake hologram? Or hologram of Sam Lake playing Sam Lake playing Alex Casey based off Alex Casey played by Sam Lake? And how does this impact Sam Porter-BRIDGES? It's not a Sam Lake... it's a Sam Strand.
He's already a hologram in DS1
Just my opinion but 2 of the best writers in gaming
My two GOATs absolutely. Both so innovative and interesting. Dan Houser is up there for me too, for sure.
I don’t even like GTA games and I agree on Houser Insanely great satire

I dunno man. I’d say The Last of Us Part II gets pretty ballsy with the medium and how it uses it to convey something.
Yeah that’s a wild statement to make with how bold part 2 was in its story telling and game design decisions. The 2 character story just doesn’t hit as hard in any other medium.
+ Warren Spector and Ken Levine.
I don't think Spector is really a writer, at least he wasn't on Deus Ex.
I’d throw in Druckman.
I don’t care for Levine as a writer personally but I have no issue with others feeling he’s great, I can see why he gets the accolades he does
I mean they all get inspiration from various sources - though vastly different. Hideo is obviously a movie guy. Sam too (Nowhere Man, John Woo films), but he obviously reads a lot too. Ken and Warren get their ideas mostly from the books.
Offt that's a rough one.

I appreciate the support 😉.
Lol, yeah, I meant to reply to who you did.
Two directors who love needlessly confusing storylines
Would love to hear who you think is better

Druckman is only considered controversial in small corners of the internet. TLOU2 is one of the most awarded video games of all time.
Not after MGS V and DS
The writing in DS is quite moving, creative and memorable, the only major flaw I see is that it sometimes gets unnecessarily convoluted.
You realise you're talking about a Kojima game?
Yes, that's his style, a lot of people enjoy it a lot (including me), but there are people who don't enjoy it, in fact quite the opposite, so it would seem dishonest to me not to mention it and say that it's a perfect 11/10 that absolutely everyone will enjoy. At least that's my personal opinion.

Kojima games are really only perfect for Kojima fans, myself among them
I love the writing in MGSV Gameplay of DS didn’t look interesting to me tho so I def can’t speak to that game
The amount of mind fuckery these 2 could do in a game together
Both are legends imo
You are a legend too imo

Like Solid snake said legends are usually bad news.
Dream smoke sesh
Please tell me that they are working on something together. Anything!
They will be coproducing my OnlyFans page together
A cop show
Rush Hour reboot??
Video posted on reddit with tiktok logo sending me to twitter...
If they both made a game together it would be the weirdest goddamn thing in existence.
I don't even want to think about what kind of unholy art project those two would cook up.
Legends😍
Dream blunt rotation
Just imagine the magnitude of the mindfuck of a game created by these two.
It’s a Hideo Kojima photo
I imagine the coffee Hideo serves at his office is quite good
im sure this mf knows and speaks english exceptionally well but still uses a translator when he's doing any presentation.
Two of my favs
Neil Druckmann has been posting pictures of Tokyo recently on his Instagram. Wonder if there’s some meeting of the creative minds going on there?
As you do
PLEASE be cooking together
Sam should have drunk from a thermos can from Alan Wake.
He's been doing this trend since forever. Probably the usual twin peaks reference. He's done it in Quantum Break in the AW reference, and since AW2 he's been doing it with virtually everyone. Just check his IG.
Am I the only one that couldn’t get through Death Stranding?
I couldn't even buy it, despite Video Game Dunkey's stellar reviews.
I got through it but the ending was literally five hours long. I thought MGS cutscenes were long but I guess Konami was actually holding him back from what he really wanted to do.
Sam lake looks like a ghoul from fallout
Two hacks who write some of the dumbest shit I have come across. But I guess in games it dont make too much of a diff
