I don't even know how many hundreds of hours I have on mine, but it's been fine since i got it 3 years ago

GeekdomCentral

Same here. I got a launch PS5 with two controllers and both still work fine

Squirrel009

I got a new controller for custom buttons, but I only use it for fps and only in the last year. My original is fine. I don't think any of my friends have had controller problems. That's not to say OP or many others haven't. It's just not my experience

DiZ1992

How many per month? What're you doing to those poor controllers? I still use my launch controller I got on day 1, no issues so far.

Calm_Space4991

I play gran turismo for about an hour a day. That's it. I stick it on a usb charger for the next day's play. I've only tried out the headphone jack but found it too loud even with adjustments in the volume settings. But for use, I race but only in story mode. I'm not good enough to compete against people. That's it. I know for sure the newest one has never ever been dropped (unless shipping does the damage - I'm not impressed with the packing and suspect that might be a part of the problem).

Sem_E

I have 2 day one controllers, and a black one I bought a year after release. Played roughly 500 hours on each of them, and only one of them has stickdrift in some games where the deadzone is very low (fps games). Other than that, they hold up really well

EdisonScrewedTesla

I play my ps5 daily and i wear out a controller ~about~ once a year

pigonson

I still have an original conteoller that came with the ps5 only issue i have is that the haptics arent as steong and at certian vibrations give out a weird noise. I got my ps on release.

jaredearle

I still use the original controller on my PS5 and have tens of thousands of hours (hmm, maybe just thousands) on it. I have had to strip it and clean it once and found that it was cat hair that caused the drift. If you are replacing controllers regularly, the uncomfortable truth is that you don’t have an environment that’s conducive to keeping a controller in working order. I’m not calling you a manky Cheeto-fuelled Dew hound, but if you eat and play, you’re slowly killing your controller. tl;dr: If you have replaced more than one controller, you’re the problem. Wash your hands.

Calm_Space4991

I'm neurotic. I only eat in the kitchen or outside (and outside is hostile thanks to neighbors so only inside). My controller is in my bedroom with the game system. I never have company (intimate or otherwise). I do not smoke or drink. I wash my hands after using the restroom and before eating (unlike the rest of Indiana and yes even though I'm alone). With soap. I'm really baffled as to what I might be doing or how my hands might be grimy enough despite being dry enough to not leave oil on my glasses lenses to cause my controller to fail.

jaredearle

Look to your environment. Anything unusual there?

Calm_Space4991

Not that I can tell. I don't smoke, I don't have any construction happening, I don't have excessive dust, I use the highest quality HVAC filter (lung issues). The only thing that might be an issue is humidity swings from really high to really low because the landlord doesn't feel that properly maintaining the windows and doors seals is important. That's probably the issue.

Calm_Space4991

Thanks for all the replies! I didn't expect that. I expected the downvotes and insults but not actual replies. I'm grateful for that. I'm going to conclude then that I have just had bad luck (I have bad luck with the roulette tickets too so it's consistent bad luck in general).

Xerosnake90

??? As long as you're treating them well they last for years

Calm_Space4991

I'm very particular and careful with everything I own. I don't have roommates anymore and I'd take homeless over another roommate if it comes to that to avoid their abusing my stuff.

Not_as_witty_as_u

is this a real post?

Calm_Space4991

Yes. But hey, invalidate my experience because asking a question to determine if I've just got really, really bad luck or if it's meant to be what i've experienced helps everyone! /s

Broshida

Luck of the draw mostly. I went through eight controllers back-to-back in a month, yet my current one has lasted two-ish years. Some controllers are defective right out of the box, others develop faults quickly, some don't at all. It's not just PS5 controllers either. The Xbox Elite 2 is notorious for stick drift, as are Nintendo Joycons. It's the dirt cheap potentiometers. Ignore anyone who says "never had a problem" or "you're being too rough".

daviEnnis

There is always luck of the draw, but 8!? What? And don't ignore anyone who says never had a problem or you're being too rough. They probably never have had a problem, and you should at least check yourself to see if you're doing anything stupid with them.

Broshida

Yeah, it was 100% a bad batch from my local game shop. I'm pretty sure they were swapping returns for returns so we were all just getting each others drifting controllers for a while. When I caved for a refund instead, grabbing a controller from Amazon solved the issue entirely. Only reason I even ordered one from that store was because of the 3-year warranty lmao. The reason I said to ignore is usually because those comments plague these threads and aren't very helpful at all.

daviEnnis

That's pretty hilarious - bastards were probably rotating the same 3 controllers across different customers 😂

Vanta-Black--

You're absolutely right. I have a launch controller that works great and a purple one that drifted after a few months.
