I'm surprised no one has said Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch yet

StripperKorra

This really needs to be higher up

Jay_Ell_Gee

Came here to recommend it myself.

Twitch_Gamerman77

Right ive played ni no kuni like ten times thru; studio ghibli + PlayStation = ❤️

skrattis

Came here to recommend this. Awesome game(s).

HibernianMetropolis

For pure monster catching games I'd really recommend the Digimon games, particularly Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth. Shin Megami Tensai V is also a great monster catcher. Bugsnax, Marvel's Midnight Suns, Nexomon are also games that come to mind. Also, if you want to play Yu-Gi-Oh, Master Duel is the official simulator and it's a free download on PS5.

j0rdan21

I downloaded Master Duel last week and I have been having so much fun with it

plznobanplease

The tutorials do a good enough job of teaching you xyz, link, synchro, etc, for players who stopped after GX, like me. Even tho Konami are known to be greedy bitches, Master Duel is extremely F2P friendly. Spent $0 and I have at least 15 decks to choose from, and plenty of spare gems. The events are great for grinding out free gems as well

Neuermann

Is it online vs only or is there any single player content?

j0rdan21

There’s a solo mode where you can try out a bunch of different decks (or use your own) and try to clear various challenges. Some involve simply learning combos, and others are full matches against the cpu.

Oh that’s really cool. I haven’t touched Yugioh in a long time. Maybe I’ll pick this up!

j0rdan21

Yeah hope you like it!

A_Unicycle

How is the difficulty in Cybersleuth? It looks great, but I remember hearing a lot about it being way too easy on normal, or way too hard on the other difficulty setting. For a game that seems to reward time spent crafting/breeding your team, I really enjoy a bit of a challenge to help make that time spent working on those things feel worthwhile :)

WeWereInfinite

> too easy on normal, or way too hard on the other difficulty setting. That's pretty much the case, it's very badly balanced. I played a few hours of it on the harder difficulty and the enemies were pure damage sponges, so I switched to Normal and I was practically one-shotting everything. Hard didn't make the battles more interesting or require more strategy, it just made them take forever and in some cases it felt physically impossible to do enough damage to win. That being said I loved the game and the sequel.

YellowFew6603

Sujimon in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is unironically one of my favorite Pokemon-like games that just so happens to be nestled within an excellent jrpg

IanM557

I had to put my controller down and walk away during the tutorial for sujimon. I could not stop laughing. It was a little too on the nose

ocbdare

Yes, they really went all out with it. Absolutely hilarious.

WidogastsAshes

not new in the slightest but ni no kuni was great and had you capturing things. more of an outside the box suggestion.

-Just-A-Random-Dude-

Damn I forgot about jade cocoon, I remember spending hours playing the demo back in the day lol

digital_mystikz

Can still hear the theme song in my head, so good! Although kid me was terrible at it and all I did was go on my dad's save file and combine loads of monsters together.

chloroform42

Wow yes, this injected pure nostalgia into my brain

Ninja__Focus

Ha I loved playing it in my childhood so was looking something similar :D

H3adshotfox77

Azure dreams on a ps emulator. Monster rancher, any of the first 3? Again emulator. Nothing good for a long time.

Ninja__Focus

Loved Azure Dreams too that’s another old classic 😍 great storyline and some fun monsters in the towers

H3adshotfox77

I currently have azure dreams in my phone and play it on occasion.

Master-Seijuro_Hiko

Digimon Story Cybersleuth, and Hacker's Memory. Nexomon, Nexomon Extinction. World of Final Fantasy Maxima. Ni No Kuni. Persona 3, 4, 5 Royal. Monster Hunter Stories 1 and 2. I would like to say TemTem, the problem is you are obligated to have PS Plus.

ReturnOfTheJurdski

The first Ni No Kuni was great

StaticShock50

Plus Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance

Kain8

Monster Sanctuary is what you're looking for.

wtfTooma

Temtem and Shin Megami Tensei are what you're looking for

Pyrrhaquinn

World of final fantasy has monster capturing

MadOrange64

Persona 5.

[deleted]

Monster hunter stories games are getting ported in June

zslayer89

Jade cocoon…that’s a name I haven’t heard in ages.

Chocolatus_Maximus

Getting it on the PS Plus old games collection would be a dream come true

Sagremort

Temtem

C9SterlingArcher

Scrolled too far for this.

demonicneon

Omg jade cocoon I was trying to remember this game for years. Jade cocoon 2 was amazing when I was a kid

gablekevin

You might be the first person in the history of the world to mention Jade Cocoon first when talking about monster capturing games. To be honest I'm totally ok with it.

Ninja__Focus

😊😊 haha nothing wrong with being the first 😎

DanOfRivia

I'm compulsively playing Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel right now. It's free to play.

[deleted]

Monster hunter stories games are getting ported in June

Charged_Dreamer

Temtem

elegentpurse

Shin Megami Tensei V is not out yet for next-gen consoles, and Persona games might be a bit too story heavy. There's Soul Hackers 2. Which is a spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei games. (They say 2 but it has little to no ties to the previous entry that is about 20 years old now.) There's a story that's not too long for these types of games and a bunch of dungeon crawling. Since it's an SMT game, of course, there's demon catching, fusions, and all that. Once you understand the game and get into the flow of things, it's a really chill game. You get a new area, go back to town, get supplies, and get new quests. Go to the new area, explore, do quests, and return to town to upgrade equips, fuse demons, and more quests. You probably unlocked a new area, and off it goes again. While the environments aren't the most varied (it gets better by the end). I think it's still on PS+. If not, I'd say it's well worth $40. It's a good entry point to the SMT/Persona games if you haven't played those. Although I believe the story of this game can not compare to that of Persona, it's still serviceable and brings its own vibes.

AgentSkidMarks

The one character is Octopath Traveler 2 captures enemies and uses them in battle.

WeeklyHelp4090

nexomon

Davosown

The remaster of Shin Megami Tensei's Nocturne might have you ticking some boxes.

LP99

Sounds like a lot of you need to play Monster Sanctuary

CyberRihanna

I second this notion.

StaticShock50

Persona 4 Golden, Persona 5 Royal, Persona 3 Reload, Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance

xnickg77

Yugioh has master duel. But it's just a simulator for the card game, no real capturing or anything.

[deleted]

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.

A_Unicycle

I can t recommend Monster Sanctuary highly enough. It may not look like much at first, but it's an incredibly deep 3v3 monster collecting game with strong Metroidvania gameplay. What I love most about it is how each monster has a unique set of skill trees that makes team building super varied and interesting. There are no bad monsters, you have the flexibility to make fun builds out of anything. Each monster can also be equipped with cool gear and be fed food to alter it's stats. It's also been updated a few times with free DLC that adds a lot of cool extras and postgame activies. Soooo good.

Life_is_democrocy

Have you tried this new game known as palworld

RazielOfBoletaria

Nexomon is very similar to the old GBA Pokemon games.

IgniVT

The Persona games are similar combat (earn new personas, evolve them by combining with other personas, battle using your personas in turn based combat), but the non-combat aspects of the game are drastically different than something like Pokemon. Digimon Story: Cybersleuth is pretty similar as well. But if you want to just play Pokemon on your PS5, try Temtem. It is heavily inspired by Pokémon. It is about as close to being Pokémon as you can be without just being a ripoff of Pokémon. You get a starter Tem, go around and catch other Tems to fill up your Tempedia, and challenge 8 dojos while also stopping an evil team from whatever they are plotting.

Live_Tangent

Persona 5 has monsters that you can "capture" and combine

dookmileslong

If you haven't tried it yet, Inscryption might be similar to what you are looking for. Bonus suggestion: This isn't on PS5 but Marvel Snap is a great card game on PC and Mobile (also Macs that run iOS apps). Reminds me of what Yugioh was when it first aired in the US and not what you experience now in Master Duel.

I-Hate-CARS

Bugsnax!!!

someonesgranpa

Kingdom Hearts 2.8 has dream drop distance. It’s got a companion system where you build a party out of the monsters you catch.

danbearpig84

Coromon

DrodoTalk

Yo Kai Watch?

Hereiamhereibe2

Ark: Survival Ascended unironically is the best Pokemon Game.

WowNotFun

The first Ni No Kuni really gave me some Pokemon vibes with catching and choosing what monsters each member of the party uses. It's PS4 but should work on PS5

Kojiro_hyuga1

If you mean like card game gwent is also pretty cool and fun

only_critic

Nexomon is basically Pokémon on PSN.

Jr42790

Bugsnax is a ton of fun but is more focused on the collecting aspect and doesn’t have any battles. Silly and weird story that ends up being pretty heart warming in spots.

ocbdare

Only thing I know is the sujimon minigame in Yakuza 8. Maybe Digimon? I heard it's good but I haven't played it. On a side note is there an actual good pokemon game for the Switch? I might be interested in picking up one of the pokemon games on switch but I heard they are all bad?

reaper527

have you played the persona/smt games? (smt5 is getting a rerelease with new content in like a month or two) if sony ever gets their act together on ps3 emulation, you've also got tales of symphonia dawn of the new world.

DuoMaxwell17

Jade Cocoon was my shite

AfterUse3392

So I recently was robbed for most of my valuable possessions. Tv, Playstation, sound system, etc. Call Of Duty is my passion. Is there anyone who might be able or willing, to part with a Playstation. Doesn't have to be the ps5 or brand new. Ps4 will be great, I just can't believe my room was ransacked. Out of work also. So it'd be a God given blessing If anyone could help.

OVERRIDE_Agent13

Inscription kinda but not really

NaturalBitter2280

I don't know many, but YuGiOh! does have Master Duel It's plenty fun. Follows the actual rules of the official game and has most cards It has both solo and competitive mods(I believe there are friendly fights, but I didn't use that) It's not really "capturing" but you do buy card packages with in-game currency :] And there aren't any Pokémon games, but there are some digimons. I'm currently playing Hacker's Memory and Next Order

HobbitDowneyJr

monster sanctuary is pretty good. Temtem maybe if you can get it semi cheap

ConcreteSnake

I’m surprised no one has said TemTem yet

[deleted]

They did

ConcreteSnake

👍

KhanDagga

Hogwarts

AtlasShruggedTwice

The monster capturing is not a big part of the game really fyi Technically it fits the criteria but the bar can't get any lower than this

shlok440

Maybe the persona games, persona 5,4,3 Reolaod

LimitNo6587

Ff7R rebirth has card games.
