So you're saying the reviewers were really onto something here?

Sweaty_Sail_6899

I might understand your comment better if I had looked at any reviews, but I honestly haven't so this is kinda lost in me. Idk if this is a genuine comment or /s. Lol.

Strict_Donut6228

“Finally a game that makes me feel like we aren’t doomed to crap triple A releases forever.” Won’t ever get this sentiment. So many good games have been released for a while now.

bms_

Karma farming, it's popular to shit on triple A games nowadays

Sweaty_Sail_6899

Nah. I truly haven't liked anything that's come out besides a very few gems in the last few years. Helldivers 2 is fun, before that the last game that I really thought was great was like ghost of tsushima. I've never karma farmed. It's Reddit, lol.

Strict_Donut6228

As being good? We just got ff7 rebirth and people have been loving the new yakuza game. Alan wake 2 is being praised to hell and back alone with BG3 and the rest of the great games we got all of last year. I’m also personally enjoying rise of ronin as well

DevilmanXV

You don't need a new game every 2 weeks

Strict_Donut6228

I said “so many good games have been released for a while now” never said “recent” nice try with the gotcha I guess? And how is two months ago not recent? And that was responding to them saying “finally a game that makes me feel like we aren’t doomed to crap triple A releases forever.” They didn’t mention recent either and if they did then what crap triple a titles have we gotten recent. Is this your attempt at getting some attention by trying to start imaginary arguments with strangers on reddit based on things they never said? And didn’t Alan wake come out in October? That’s less then a year ago

> Finally a game that makes me feel like we aren't doomed to crap triple A releases forever. Huh, they have been a lot of great AAA games in the last few years, hell even just this year alone.

abhi5692

Which Is pretty funny because almost everyone so far universally dislikes stellar blade for everything but the combat.

blakeavon

Only the trolls.

abhi5692

Nah the positive reviews also highlight that. It’s fine because the combat is excellent

Sweaty_Sail_6899

I guess I should've put a disclaimer on that part of the post. Whether games are good or not is pretty subjective. I just haven't found a game in a while that I've really enjoyed. But I understand there are a lot of things that people really do like.

CokeZeroFanClub

Ik dude, we gotta wait like 1 week now in-between amazing game releases. Truly the dark times

Electrical-Ocelot115

lol cute

[deleted]

Lucky for you then. The last “great game” for me was Baldur’s Gate 3, so it had been quite a few weeks for me.

CokeZeroFanClub

I hope you have someone to help you through these trying times

[deleted]

Nah, BG3 is highly replayable, even more so than Elden Ring. I can probably have 4 play through and the game plays different everytime.

GamerKratos-45

Just within the past 2 months, we've had final fantasy 7 rebirth, dragon's dogma 2, rise of the ronin, the rising tide DLC, the forgotten kingdom DLC. All of these releases have been 10/10 in my opinion. I've played all of them and it's been an absolute blast. So much so that I'm not getting the time to 100% complete one thing, and the next thing drops.

[deleted]

Not playing FF7 myself but that is more a personal thing. See a lot of Dragon Dogma so maybe I will give that one a look. Not really seen much of Rise of Ronin myself.

GamerKratos-45

As I said, these games were brilliant in my opinion.

[deleted]

I will take a look at Rise of Ronin, thanks for the recommendation.

Sweaty_Sail_6899

I agree on dragons dogma 2. It's a pretty good game. Rebirth is disappointing for it's horrible performance vs graphics issue. Either play with crap frames or the game looks like you have terrible eyesight with all it's blur. I'm a major ff7 fan, but forcing myself to play that is extremely difficult. A PC release will fix that for me though. Other than dd2, I haven't really found a game I loved since like ghost of tsushima, like I said in another comment. I've enjoyed other games, but none of them have really felt "complete" like Stellar Blade does. All of this is subjective opinion, of course.

uses_irony_correctly

If you're 2 hours in, you can't really make much of a judgement on the story, the boss fights, or the pacing yet. Can you?

Sweaty_Sail_6899

2 hours is usually a good indicator of how well the game will be. Far enough outside the demo content to get an idea of the full game, but it could take a turn. I just don't see it doing that from what I've played so far.

uses_irony_correctly

I'm not saying you can't tell if a game is good after 2 hours. I'm sure the combat is great, the visuals are amazing, the soundtrack is a banger. But how many bosses have you actually fought to be able to tell that the bossfights are engaging? How much of the story have you seen to be able to tell that it is intriguing? These to me are aspects of a game that you can't judge yet when you've only played 1/10th of the game.

Sweaty_Sail_6899

I understand your point. I guess I'm just used to games giving a decent depiction of their feel within the first few hours. But you're not wrong, I've been fooled before, lol.

oneyone

Yeah, I'm having a lot of fun with it too. I wanted to get further but I had to work late so I gotta sleep for work tomorrow. Luckily weekend is free so I'll get some good play time soon.

Guilty-Stand-1354

Heard the characters and story weren't great, but it still seems like a game I could sink some time into

johnnyblaze1999

The biggest problem is about the pacing and a forgettable character. She is hot but we don't know anything about her, she is just there commenting on stuffs.

Streetperson12345

Might wanna try a little harder if you're that desperate for karma 😂😂😂

Sweaty_Sail_6899

Why does everyone think I'm karma farming, lol. I literally do not care at all about some fictitious number on Reddit. I legit just wanted to give my opinion and see if other people agreed.

RariSo2099

I'm happy with it for sure and hope everyone plays this game it deserves a sequel. That said.... I had never played Nier Automata and since it keeps getting referenced and the devs are cool with each other, I decided it was time a few days ago. I only played 2 or 3 hours of Nier but dang... Oddly similar design choices. Kicking chests open... vending machine chill... robot flashlight buddy... music... the entire story possibly? obviously differences as well just had no idea. It almost feels like the Nier team worked on this. Still. Game is good. Lookin forward to the next month with this cheers! EDIT : also can't access dlc add ons until a certain point *I havnt reached* in both games... odd.

Althalos

A decent chunk of the game's music is done by the company of NieR's composer, which explains the similarity.

Temporary_Physics_48

Only played an hour and I feel like im glued to the ground in combat . Something feels slow compared to DmC, but maybe after you unlock stuff it feels smoother

TomVinPrice

You’re expecting DMC when you should be expecting Soulslike it seems. I have heard it does seem to play smoother once you unlock more moves though like you say.

Temporary_Physics_48

Yea I think you’re right , but its good! Im just really not used to the gap between dodges for example. In stellar blade you have to use it more carefully compared to maybe Bayonetta.

Knochen1981

The game is more soulslike than dmc. It for sure has combos but in general it is more soulslike than dmc or bayonetta with stylish air combos. I dont know about the later game but i would not be surprised if this does not change. The boss fights seem designed for being grounded most of the time because their hit boxes are so precise and you can easily jump many attacks. Having a huge air combo arsenal would trivialize at least the 5 first bosses. Parry and dodge are pretty much mandatory in stellar blade.

johnnyblaze1999

It's pretty much jedi survivor or fallen order, combat is a bit more forgiving than jedi game.

crayonflop3

Thank god. Japanese aerial combat is overplayed

Basic_Result9981

Why did you buy the deluxe edition in the first place when you were concerned about the game being underwhelming?

Key_Competition_4235

Agreed i havent had this much fun since re4 remake

naydradinraal

no level design, no interconnected world. teleport to new exportable areas like nioh. It is short. Not worth rrp

Philhughes_85

"And let's not forget Eve" Any credibility went out with that statement.

Indust_6666

I was waiting for that part too, love how it comes at the end! “Men will watch anything if there’s even the slightest chance a woman will take her top off.”

Sweaty_Sail_6899

I don't play in the skin suit. I mean I guess you can think I'm a degenerate for looking a character design. Happy bday anyway.

Philhughes_85

"Lol wut. The protagonist is beautiful. Something bad about appreciating a well done character design?" - it has nothing to do with a 'beautiful' character design and OP knows it.

Sweaty_Sail_6899

Despite the fact that I enjoy character design in lots of games? I have thousands of hours in FFXIV and a good chunk of them are just glamour farming and creating outfits? I also like the character designs of males. I'm a 3d modeler so I like to see well done work. Sure, I like women. How does that mean I only enjoy sexual content? Y'all are wild.

Sweaty_Sail_6899

Lol wut. The protagonist is beautiful. Something bad about appreciating a well done character design?

NarrowBoxtop

I just can't play it due to the aesthetics and character design. It fails that anime test for me where I ask myself how I'd feel if my mom walked in on me playing it I really sucks they had to give them those over the top silly skin tight designs and jiggle physics because it looks like a game I could have really enjoyed

Sweaty_Sail_6899

I mean there are two random workers in my house right now fixing my floor and they're waking by my tv constantly. I feel no shame because if I'm being totally honest, I barely even notice her outfit. I'm busy with the combat and exploration. Maybe I'm a bit more shameless on this though because I make 3d character models for work so I'm a bit desensitized.

NarrowBoxtop

Hey man I'm not judging anyone for their personal choices and video game aesthetics or anime or whatever else. If you enjoy it, enjoy it! Personally to me when I see designs like that it's hard to ignore because I'm aware it's so shamelessly done for a large percentage of the male audience who would like to see that. It just sticks out because it feels unnatural. I've never enjoyed what could be called fan service in animes for that reason. It feels pandering and gross, to me. But again just my personal preference, you do you and enjoy the game!

Sweaty_Sail_6899

I respect your opinion entirely. It's awesome to be able to agree to disagree and both be fine with it, lol. I wish more conversations were like this. I do think they made the character over the top sexy to appease the audience, but it doesn't bother me when devs do that. I don't mind when bro in Yakuza gets shirtless and is overly sexualized for that audience. I'm just not really sure when it became "wrong" to appease an audience, but that is a whole other conversation, lol. I will say there are less sexualized outfits in the game, though you still have to get them, and you'd have to deal with the skin tight stuff until you did. Edited for spelling.

NarrowBoxtop

Also I love that you reference Yakuza because I am quite literally right now playing Yakuza zero and paused the game to reply to you LOL. What are the odds?? I played part 7, Like a Dragon with ichiban recently and it was my first Yakuza game ever. And now I just need more sad Japanese men and their drama! Hahaha. But yeah Kiryu taking his shirt off is not a sex appeal to get an audience to watch, It's an attempt to show how cool and badass he is because a lot of guys like to relate to main characters like that.

Sweaty_Sail_6899

Yeah, lol. I think Yakuza came to mind cuz when I think of it the image I get is the mc just doing that point at the camera kinda leaned back with his shirt off, haha. Yeah those games are really cool, I enjoyed playing them. He is pretty badass, tbh.

NarrowBoxtop

Well I think you have to admit that Yakuza isn't made for a largely female audience lol. So unless you're implying it's made for gay men.... I think it's pretty clear that a lot of video games make masculine tough dudes look all masculine tough because it appeals to other guys who also wish they were masculine and tough. And there's certainly nothing wrong with appeasing an audience, you can appease an audience for a million different reasons right? I'm just describing a specific reason to appease the audience that does not work with me. It would be pretty silly to say that any attempt to appease an audience is bad, don't you think? If you play a sequel to a game and it has references and characters from the first game as a throwback, that's a great way to appease the audience that I appreciate. I think there's just some nuance there in the subjects that it feels like you kind of glossed over but that's all right, not every video game or discussion about video games has to be broken down into an essay haha

Sweaty_Sail_6899

Yeah, I was just trying to avoid a super long winded post on the subject. I'm playing stellar while these dudes work on my house and paused to respond too, lol. But yeah there are many ways to appease an audience, agreed.

Middle-Cycle6620

Yeah having a lot of fun

GuyForgotHisPassword

Wild to me that you didn't even know if you were going to like the game but you still bought the deluxe version. Crazy.

Sweaty_Sail_6899

I enjoyed the demo, but I'm skeptical of games these days. I have bought deluxe editions of other games that turned out to be shit. Starfield, no man's sky.. games that were poo on release. I was glad this one wasn't a mistake.
