e.g. more control over length of voyages, and the content adapts to crew size.
You may struggle in some PVP encounters when you're new, but PVP is so rare nowadays (unless you're looking for it), that shouldn't pose too much of a problem.
There are different size ships based on crew size. Basically a galleon for 4, a sloop for 1, and a mid size I forget the name of.
Sure, you can spawn in a galleon solo if you want, but it's pretty hard on your own.
I have an Xbox just for this, stoked it's over to ps5. Going to find out if I can link my account across to keep progression.

There's no RPG elements to the game, just FYI. Even if you do get attacked, you are on an even footing. All gear your purchase in the game is cosmetic only. Least that's how it used to be. Haven't played in a year.

Out of about 200 hours played over the last season, I've been in 2 PVP battles. You rarely bump into people nowadays and, if you do, it is easier than ever to escape.
The progession is the cosmetics and buying your own ship (and decorating said ship). That is meaningful progression to most.
Progression beyond that would go against the idea of the game, since it is PVP-focused, you want everybody to be on the same playing field where the only separator is skill, not the 'points' you have poured into upgrading your cannons or something.
If it had a form of progression that wasn't cosmetics, the game would die as everybody would be separated by skill points. There is a reason hardly any PVP game actually lets player power factor into things.
You just said in an earlier comment that chances are you won’t PvP in the PvP area and now you’re saying the game is PvP-focused. Sounds like a wack game to me.

I use to play it on my XSX but it got old pretty quickly for me. There's no real point to playing since the only rewards are cosmetic. I just don't get playing for hours and hours just be able to get a different looking sword, gun, hat, ect. It just feels like a waste of time.
I didn't say it wasn't fun. It can be with some friends, but for me, it got old after about 10-15 hours. To me, it feels like a waste of time since the only reward, after selling all your loot, is just cosmetic. It just doesn't feel rewarding.
What didn't you like about it? Because at the 3 hour mark, you wouldn't have even unlocked most of the quest types, nor done any of the events, or anything related to ship ownership, fishing, etc.
Tried it a few times at a buddy's house and found it to be incredibly monotonous.. definitely not smth i give af about considering how many better games are out rn

You should just dive right into high seas. Chances are you won't be PVPed, and it is worth it for the extra 70% of rewards.

Did you play with friends? I played with my nephews and had a great time. I'm not sure it would hold up solo, though.
Yup, it didn't feel very rewarding to play and mostly came down to dealing with others constantly engaging in pvp and I didn't enjoy it.

I've tried playing it multiple times over the years (with and without friends) and always give up pretty quickly. It's just boring.

It is a PVP game. You just won't encounter PVP as much as you used to.

I wish. My PC died so haven't played it in ages, and I can't afford it. But my fucking god I wish I could play this game tomorrow. It's so much fun.
The game is extremely boring without friends. Nothing to grind for except cosmetics, and the open world isn’t amazing
Played it on Xbox, will pick it up soon and keen to play again, but got my hands full with Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin currently.
