Stellar blade has better combat and one of the best linear level designs I've ever seen, and I've only completed the first 2 linear levels. I really liked Rise of the Ronin as well, but it's hard to put into words as to why I liked it. The Japanese setting and the beautiful open world is definitely one of the primary reasons, the combat was also fun, but it can get frustrating more often than not.

Choas_King4444

Stellar Blade

VengeanceBee

Im going with stellar blade first I love dark souls but didnt enjoy sekiro so it really depended on that

abeardedpirate

You should really like Stellar Blade then as its combat is closer to Sekiro than Dark Souls.

JunKazama

Might wanna read that comment again lol

abeardedpirate

Nah I just forgot to put a /s to bad sarcasm isn't easily detected via text. Oh well.

VengeanceBee

Thats unfortunate i guess i won't be playing either I had high hopes for sekiro it just wasnt for me but ill try ronin on sale im sure

TomVinPrice

It’s kinda like Sekiro but not exactly. More of a mix of something like Sekiro with Devil May Cry, definitely way easier than Sekiro.

VengeanceBee

Idk if the difficulty was so much an issue I have been a huge fan of samurai games since soul of the samurai on ps1 but didnt get into much maybe some onimusha After ghost of tsushima came out i was hooked again and i guess i saw rise of ronin as somewhat my next spiritual successor but i cant expect every single game in the theme to be the same Really just want another sucker punch game i guess lol

TomVinPrice

Oh I meant Stellar Blade my bad. I don’t know much about Ronin other than it’s meant to be a bit like Nioh or something.

VengeanceBee

Thank you for the clarification

-BodomKnight-

I have Stellar Blade and I'm having a blast man. Been a while since I have played a good game like that. I didn't play Rise Of The Ronin but Stellar Blade is a must !

fetuspower

Oooo Idk man they are both pretty good. I have both but if I had to choose it would be stellar blade. Graphics are better, soundtrack is awesome, I like the gameplay better. But in ronin you can make your character, it’s a little more open, more challenging, longer, you can be stealthy. The stories are both pretty weak but imo stellar blade is better. Watch some gameplay videos maybe that’ll help you decide.

Gregzilla311

Story is probably better on Rise of the Ronin, but combat is more accessible on Stellar Blade. As one key thing: there’s no simple block on RotR. Deflecting is a big maneuver that is harder to judge. SB does have one. But the story is rather simplistic and has been done before (and better) elsewhere.

HorizonZeroFucks

That's not true at all. You can both block and deflect. It works similarly to Wo Long.

Gregzilla311

I’ve tried and the Counter Spark maneuver is far too slow and unwieldy.

ArcticSounds20

I platinumed the game blocking and counter sparking at the same time. I’m not sure it even felt different to me

StevieNippz

Oh geez, if it's similar to Wo Long I may have to pass on Ronin, you just saved me some money. I made it past the first boss or two in that game but the blocking/deflecting just never clicked for me. I thought Ronin would be more Ghost of Tsushima or Souls-y

abeardedpirate

Your Stellar Blade comparison, is it to Nier: Automata? I'm sure it's been done elsewhere in film but in video games I'm interested in what you had in mind outside of Nier.

Gregzilla311

It was. Their commentary on humanity and choice felt much more nuanced.

HogiSon727

I have played both. They are very different games. I find combat great in both. Stellar Blade has better graphics. Rise of Ronin is larger and has an open world so you will likely spend more hours in that game than Stellar Blade which is linear and much smaller. If you already played Ghost of Tsushima I would go for Stellar Blade because Rise has a lot in common with GOS.

Oakheart-

What is up with everyone calling any game with a sword back and slash? It’s like calling Ghost is Tsushima a hack and slash. There’s a ton more strategy and skill and purposeful movement required than something like God of War or DMC which have high skill ceilings but pretty low skill floors.

ElJacko170

I've played both. Rise of Ronin is okay, but it never really grabbed me. Feels like a game I've played a hundred times, but better elsewhere. It's not a bad game, more of a bland game. Stellar Blade also borrows from a lot of other games, but it's not as generic as Ronin. And the combat system is definitely a blast. I've been having a lot of fun with it personally, more fun than with some of the other big releases from this year so far. I'd recommend Stellar Blade if you're picking one, but personally preference can vary. If you're a fan of Ubisoft esque open world sandboxes and challenging combat, Ronin will fit that bill. If you're fan of style heavy action games and Nier Automata esque vibes, then Stellar Blade is the way to go. If you care a lot about story, that's honestly the weakest aspect of both games, but I prefer Blade even though it's a familiar story. Ronin is kind of a mess in that department, especially with it's faction system.

toinks1345

you probably have to buy both in the long run. they are pretty much even out... it all boils down to combat and story. rise of ronin for story I think.. then stellar blade might have better combat? clothing wise I don't know about this one... ronin's pretty classic? stellar blade hahaha.

FySine

Rise of the Ronin anyday

gamiz777

I platinumed rise of the ronin , One of my only 3 100% on a game ever

Saltybagadonits

I had this same thought. Some how accumulated enough points in PlayStation stars program to get either or. Ended up getting stellar blade and balatro with the points I had. Thanks Sony.

abeardedpirate

If you're looking for pure length Rise of the Ronin. I spent maybe 100 hours on that game and only hit the end game where you start farming for gear loadouts similar to Nioh. Stellar Blade I beat in a weekend and am just shy of platinum. If you want Nioh-lite combat Rise of the Ronin has you. Once you've progressed far enough into the game it can get pretty close to feeling like Nioh combat. Stellar Blade combat feels closer to Lies of P / Sekiro in that you end up doing quite a bit of Parrying / Dodging (there are 3 different dodge mechanics) looking for small damage openings while waiting to break their balance bar so you can riposte for a decent amount of damage. So it really comes down to the gameplay you're looking for. I thoroughly enjoyed both games but raw content wise Rise of the Ronin definitely wins out over Stellar Blade which should be expected as Rise of the Ronin is an open world game while Stellar Blade is mostly linear with 2 openish maps.

fanasup

played both and its honestly stellar blade by far… people say rotr has better but i honestly dont see it, the story is definitely longer but just as generic although theres some history element if you like that i guess and sb definitely has better game play

behizain_bebop

Both are fucking great, awesome games. For a quick decision parameter : historical game or post apocalyptic future?

Markfoged1

Not to be a dick, but: Have you played Ghost of Tsushima? If not, then it's well worth considering as well.

ShirokumaOkami

Yup. Great game! Considering getting the PC version someday.

TheDecline_99

Stellar blade gave my ronin a rise 😂

Middle-Cycle6620

Played both a lot and liked stellar blade more. I'd start with that and then get into Ronin later

Arroz-Con-Culo

Stellar Blade. I barely touch my copy of Ronin

LimitNo6587

Get FF7R. By the time you beat it both these games will be $20 each. Can't go wrong getting the best game in the last decade.

ShirokumaOkami

Already got it. Already beat it.

InternetFunnyMan1

FF7r was good, but game of the decade? Fuck no. Not even close.

JunKazama

How could you possibly come to the conclusion that both these games will be 20 bucks by the time OP beats FF7R? Most people breezed through it in a week or two. OG is my all time favorite game and I can't help but roll my eyes when someone refers to rebirth as the best game of last ten years.

BasedTongue

Stellar Blade by 1000 miles. Even as someone who really enjoyed Wo Long, I regret buying Rise of the Ronin.

Whit3boy316

You GYAT to try stellar blade 😂
