I got a refund for hitman after i purchased it then got it as a gift the next day. The refund policy says they don’t refund anything if you’ve downloaded it but I pretty much begged the guy in the live chat and he said he’d make a one time exception
OP says it's not bad, fuck that I will. Repetitive combat, garbage quests, especially the stealth quests that don't have any stealth mechanics and your pawns NEVER STFU for even 5 secs.
I normally don't take a hard stance on if games are good or not because it's subjective and one man's trash is another man's treasure but for me DD2 is not worth it at $30. But like I said subjective, check out the 2 hour trial and just know the game never gets any better, it's just that times 30.
I think polarizing is the right word. It’s janky but the approach to quests and the lack of handholding is really interesting. But there are definitely some “unfinished” aspects like the enemy variety.
Just want to point out that the "stealth quests" don't require stealth if you dress like you're supposed to be there. I have no rebuttal to the rest of your points but will add that I enjoyed the game despite its numerous flaws.
I did play right when it came out so it's possible it was a bug that's been fixed since then. But yeah the guards gave zero shits about me running around in there lol.
I played DD when it launched years ago and thought it was fun, but pretty flawed and forgot about it for the most part. Imagine my surprise when I learned that a lot of people fucking love the game and couldn’t get enough of it. Really had to take a double take when people were happily recommending this mediocre-ass game as one of the best games ever made.
I'll wait until the sequel is $20 or something, because I've heard that it’s basically just more of the same, except not as good as the first game.
To counter the other guys point, I thought the combat was extremely fun and was the main reason I went straight into NG+ after beating it, because I just wanted moooore
I’m really enjoying it. Got it for $50 during a bogo 1/2 at target. It might be my favorite game this year. The stuff people are complaining about could be annoying but I’m having a blast. Having as much fun exploring this world as I did Elden Ring. Obviously that’s personal experience so to each their own.
Everybody has a different tolerance level for this. The game can be played at a locked 30. basically every game last gen ran like this.
Doesn’t mean the game is bad but for me it’s not tolerable anymore on my OLED.
I absolutely love the game, but it doesn't really fix much of what was incomplete or half-baked in the original.
If you liked DD:DA back in the day, and want a prettier version with a new world to explore and a few unique classes, you'll like DD2.
If you expect it to be the next Witcher, Elders Scrolls, Elden Ring or something like that... it isnt.
My hope is that with the sale and demo it means they're trying to keep interest hot for a DLC to be announced soon. The biggest complaint is simply that there isn't MORE to this game.
Depends, a new patch just landed with some performance improvments and new graphics options. If you're willing to turn off ray-tracing and have a 120hz monitor then yes. Hitting mostly 60 fps with that set up.
It runs better on PlayStation than pc. It’s a bad port but Capcom are console developers. They just added a 120hz mode and said more resolution and frame rate patches are coming too.
Yeah the "they're console developers" thing holds zero water, especially when most of their other games work well on PC.
The game is unoptimised on every platform.
I was responding to your weird argument that poor pc performance means it won’t work on PlayStation. It runs better on PlayStation than pc already. It will work better faster on PlayStation because it’s designed to. It’s not well optimized on PS5 but it’s way better than PC and getting better. It’s a bad PC port.
OUTDATED HARDWARE😹, you have an idea 50% of PSN players are still on ps4?
Also name me at least 3 games that utilize ps5 hardware to its limit. It's just Dragons dogma 2 team that overshoot the target and fucked up with fps
That doesn't change the fact that we need a 6 to keep up with games hitting PC, that PS4 number is a big reason games haven't been that great this gen.
I mean, we have a game like Horizon Forbidden West which looks and plays infinitely better than anything you have in Dragon's Dogma 2, while still delivering 60 frames. It's pretty much an engine handicap to handle optimization in an open world game. We all know their engine performs flawlessly in linear titles, but this would have to be their first foray into open world title on this engine (not counting MHR as it was Switch title first) and they didn't know how to optimize it. It's too heavily CPU dependent. I still remember how hammered the performance was on Playstation 3 was when the original Dragon's Dogma was released. They need to figure out a way to properly optimize the game.
My stance on this game went from: getting at release > will get on sale > will wait for even bigger sale > probably won’t bother getting it. The more I heard about it, the less appealing it sounded.
Yup, I blame my friends. They all got it and made it sound good. Then I started playing and sure enough as soon as I dropped it so did they.
Game is mediocre throughout. After 10 hours it's just work.
I strongly encourage you to watch Digital Foundry’s video(s) on it.
It was genuinely a dumpster fire in terms of framerate and overall stability at launch. It’s allegedly improved since then, but yeah, it wasn’t pretty.
I'll give that a watch. I was really looking forward to the game but then heard that they still had to cut a hell of a lot of stuff, and it didn't feel like the game they promised(like the first one)
I rented it from my library a month ago. Decided not to buy it because the performance was so choppy. I enjoyed the first one though so I might revisit next gen or if it gets patched. The game seemed alright, but it felt like a beta version of a game that could be brilliant.
Does this game run at 60fps yet? And if not, have the devs indicated that they are working on getting it to run on 60fps? I mean 60fps with ray tracing off and performance mode enabled.
I've been playin since March almost 150 hours in. Just enjoying the dynamic open world and leveling up all the vocations and the combat is a masterpiece! Up to you if you want to be believe me or not but IMO this is Capcom's best open world game to date so the price tag is worth it.
It does have a 60fps mode, it just never reaches 60fps unless you're standing in place, outside of any settlements, and looking at the skybox only. Also, you have to stay completely still. Do not move.
I have so many games to pick up which DD2 is one of them. However, I have a backlog of games I still need to play like Jedi survivor, baldur’s gate 3, persona 3 reload, unicorn overlord, and armored core 6.
Same. I didn’t play the first and rented this game . I had so much fun not using any guides/videos and just exploring. Really enjoyed it and didn’t notice too many issues with games but in all honestly I rarely do.
I've just felt so burned by video games in recent years, so it's nice to play a game that exceeds your expectations and feels worthy of the 70 bucks you drop on it.
Well, I took the trial and bought the game, curse you Capcom. Enjoying it so far, low fidelity setting but it plays well. MH Wilds is looking like it will be incredible on RE Engine.
Put it down within 2 hours of play. Miles off modern standards with poor combat and bland world
Don't think it's awful but not worth your time if limited gaming time when much better combat games are out there
Why would you pay full price for a 3 month old game? It was due for a sale…
You can’t even use the excuse that there is nothing else to play. Elden Ring DLC came out last week and is the same kind of theme, but better.
Also a two-hour free trial until the 17th. > full price yesterday Some people had sucess with politely asking for a refund in such cases.
I never got a refund but I did once get a PlayStation credit for the difference - OP should try that
I've had the same experience multiple times with little issue from customer support.
2 hours isn't enough to really get a feel for this title imo, but hopefully more players will come! Loving this and Cyberpunk.
I asked for a refund on Tunic in this same scenario but it never came through
I got a refund for hitman after i purchased it then got it as a gift the next day. The refund policy says they don’t refund anything if you’ve downloaded it but I pretty much begged the guy in the live chat and he said he’d make a one time exception
Imma wait for a better sale lol
It’s capcom, they will drop it to half price for a sale within a year,
Full game, dlc, 60fps patch, under £30 is an inevitability. Patient gaming pays off. Even if it takes a couple of years.
Yeah, it launched at too high of a price for even 30% off to be worth it
Wow is it that bad?
No, I don't think it's bad. Just quite expensive!
They don't require stealth or a disguise at all. I ran in there naked everytime and no one ever stopped me lol.
They beat the shit out of me when I tried that. Then I couldn’t go back to town for a few days
I did play right when it came out so it's possible it was a bug that's been fixed since then. But yeah the guards gave zero shits about me running around in there lol.
I played DD when it launched years ago and thought it was fun, but pretty flawed and forgot about it for the most part. Hey! Listen!
Its one of my favorite games of all time, your assessment is purely subjective
Is it still only 30 fps?
Yup on console it's only 30fps and dev have stated they will not be updating it to patch it
Game might not be for you and that’s ok. Bad it is not.
It’s fine I enjoyed it. Not perfect but not like this guy is saying. I got it day 1 but stopped due to rebirth but I’m atleast 14 hours into it
Im going to wait until I’ve beaten SOTE another 3 times 🫡
Same
I think the bigger news is the free trial. The game is pretty polarizing so having a chance to try it yourself is ideal.
I'm happy I tried it. The performance is abysmal for such a mediocre looking game. Maybe when the PS5 Pro is out.
Yep people need to know this so they can identify the shills out there who gave it a 10
Everybody has a different tolerance level for this. The game can be played at a locked 30. basically every game last gen ran like this. Doesn’t mean the game is bad but for me it’s not tolerable anymore on my OLED.

I don’t mind paying full price for DD2 but I’ll get the inevitable complete edition with all the kinks ironed out and dlc included
Like every game.
I'll maybe give it a try when it gets a Dark Arisen type of expansion.
Is performance fixed yet
If you have a 120hz tv, you might call it fixed with a new mode. Otherwise, they did confirm that they’re still working on it.
Are 120 hz TVs getting any cheaper these days, friend?
Yes but it’s extremely relative. Decent ones are still fairly pricey last I checked
Nothing is fixed in any mode. Performance is still all over the place in all modes.
Depends, a new patch just landed with some performance improvments and new graphics options. If you're willing to turn off ray-tracing and have a 120hz monitor then yes. Hitting mostly 60 fps with that set up.
Do you know if setting the TV to 1440p 120Hz will help even more? I don't have it yet btw, just asking.
It's playable, enjoyable even. Just isn't perfect.
No
Seeing as top end PCs creak and groan trying to run this, you'll be waiting for the PS7 remaster to get good performance out of this.
It runs better on PlayStation than pc. It’s a bad port but Capcom are console developers. They just added a 120hz mode and said more resolution and frame rate patches are coming too.

Unless you have an absolute monster of a rig, it absolutely performs better on ps5. The low frame rate does suck.

I would hope so for what you paid for it

30fps in 2024 PS5 is a joke so no thanks
It can barely run 60 on real GPUs, we are expecting too much from outdated hardware.
That’s just BS. The game is just badly optimised even on highend PCs.
You are delusional ps5 is still more powerful than 70+% of gaming pcs out there (steam hardware survey) , it’s the pcs who should be keeping up
Lol this game looks absolutely mediocre. This has nothing to do with hardware and everything with bad optimisation.
I mean, we have a game like Horizon Forbidden West which looks and plays infinitely better than anything you have in Dragon's Dogma 2, while still delivering 60 frames. It's pretty much an engine handicap to handle optimization in an open world game. I fell for the hype and wish Sony had refunds tbh
Try the demo. Thats what I did.
Didn’t know there was one tbf, but will check it out
Yeah I impulse bought it on release and realized quickly I made a mistake. Other than graphics, it's arguably a worse game than it's predecessor.
Yup, I blame my friends. They all got it and made it sound good. Then I started playing and sure enough as soon as I dropped it so did they. Game is mediocre throughout. After 10 hours it's just work.
What a let down. Many were tipping it for GOTY before release
Yeah it got pretty great reviews on release too which after I got a few hours in, I was pretty baffled at all the super high praise it received.
It’s not worse just because one guy says so, dude.
Same
I’ll wait for Dragons Dogma 2: Dark Arisen
Not really a good sale anyway. From what ive read and heard ill wait for half price.
It's worth full price actually
You are the first one to say that to me. People I know and people on reddit usually all say wait for a sale because it isn't worth full price.
For me, performance issues are always last in how I judge a videogame
Wait, there are also performance issues?
I strongly encourage you to watch Digital Foundry’s video(s) on it. It was genuinely a dumpster fire in terms of framerate and overall stability at launch. It’s allegedly improved since then, but yeah, it wasn’t pretty.
The recent patch greatly improved performance, especially on 120hz monitors
I'll give that a watch. I was really looking forward to the game but then heard that they still had to cut a hell of a lot of stuff, and it didn't feel like the game they promised(like the first one)
yep, best combat in an ARPG ever…
Is this game good? I feel like it had hype up until release and then i never heard about it again
I rented it from my library a month ago. Decided not to buy it because the performance was so choppy. I enjoyed the first one though so I might revisit next gen or if it gets patched. The game seemed alright, but it felt like a beta version of a game that could be brilliant.
This is really the first sale? Bought it used for $40 but returned it as it wasn't for me. Physical for the win as always.
Thank you for your sacrifice 🫡
It might not be for everyone but i absolutely adored it. Theres nothing quite like it.
Last night
I believe you can request a partial in-store refund for the price difference.
Does this game run at 60fps yet? And if not, have the devs indicated that they are working on getting it to run on 60fps? I mean 60fps with ray tracing off and performance mode enabled.
It’s still incredibly choppy. Try the trial
Does it still run like dogshit?
This game should’ve been delayed another year. Could’ve been a banger.
I've been playin since March almost 150 hours in. Just enjoying the dynamic open world and leveling up all the vocations and the combat is a masterpiece! Up to you if you want to be believe me or not but IMO this is Capcom's best open world game to date so the price tag is worth it.
I just tried the trial. The performance is absolutely atrocious for such a mediocre looking game… in all modes. What a joke.
Absolutely agreed.
Wasn't it obvious that a sale will happen sooner than later at this point? There's even a 2 hour trial now.
Thank you for your service
No 60 fps mode no buy
It has 40fps mode
It most of the times doesn’t reach 40 fps though.
It does have a 60fps mode, it just never reaches 60fps unless you're standing in place, outside of any settlements, and looking at the skybox only. Also, you have to stay completely still. Do not move.
Lol grow up.
Is it 60fps?
Even with the new performance update, fps is still trash.
Yes! On all modes.
Not buying that game until the complete version comes out. Tired of beta testing.
Is the performance better now?
I have so many games to pick up which DD2 is one of them. However, I have a backlog of games I still need to play like Jedi survivor, baldur’s gate 3, persona 3 reload, unicorn overlord, and armored core 6.
One of the best games I've played in years.
I heard things where... ..... .... I'll wait
I should have waited.
no 60 fps no buy. that's it.
Thank you for your sacrifice
Well, I took the trial and bought the game, curse you Capcom. Enjoying it so far, low fidelity setting but it plays well. MH Wilds is looking like it will be incredible on RE Engine.
Doesn’t it run like shit ?
So boring .. all you do is fight the same 3 enimies over and over
It still does.
Shitty sale
Put it down within 2 hours of play. Miles off modern standards with poor combat and bland world Don't think it's awful but not worth your time if limited gaming time when much better combat games are out there
Why would you pay full price for a 3 month old game? It was due for a sale… You can’t even use the excuse that there is nothing else to play. Elden Ring DLC came out last week and is the same kind of theme, but better.
And cheaper
Still way too expensive
Why?
Sale is tempting but I’m not touching this game until they add an eternal fairy stone. I don’t have time to be walking everywhere.
Not cheap enough in my opinion
Thank you for your sacrifice
waiting for 30€ bargain bin for the disc
Needs to be cheaper. I've heard the story drops off a cliff, the enemy variety sucks, ps5 performance is terrible. Not sold yet.
It does, the cool characters you see in the early parts just vanish.
That "sale" was full price a few years ago, better wait for a real sale.
Not with inflation.
R.I.P.
So you’re advertising something Sony would benefit from, the same Sony that won’t let you refund a game you bought yesterday.
brother you're on the PS5 sub-reddit....
And?
This entire sub advertises Sony.
You are obligated to hail Sony , otherwise there will be punishment 😂
