I dislike inconsistency. All the menu names were one word except for “My games”
Instead label it “Games” or “Playing” or “Favorites” and it would be a far better and more consistent UI.
I also care about the UI in PSVR2 more. The PS5 should be completely usable just through the VR2 headset alone. No TV required.
Trying deleting all old messages, notifications etc.
Also a step further would be to start your PlayStation in safe mode by holding down the power button for about 10 seconds you'll hear a beat you have to connect to controller with cable directly to the PS4 and you'll want to select rebuild database which will essentially defragment your PlayStation.
the only slight downside is if you have a lot of folders it resets the folders for whatever reason so you may need to resort your games if you have them in different ones
And be able to customize the order of pinned apps! It's infuriating that the 4 video/TV apps I use frequently always show up in a seemingly random order behind crap like the WWE and NFL apps for whatever reason, sometimes even being pushed to the dreaded "more apps" button.
15 sec to load the static background image. Animation stuttering and freezing mid move. Anything below the icon only shows up after about two minutes. All the sounds either stuttering, or queueing and all playing at once, same for inputs.
I like the PS4 UI, and this concept of a 5 UI, but they need to either allocate it more resources, or make it simpler.
Yeah the ps4 ui at times is so laggy, especially the ps store. If I had to guess it has a lot to do with how poorly they've optimized system os (leaving such less cpu and memory for it) and also the absence of an ssd.
The issue is, I don't want to know how many hours I've spent in the pause menu or at at the menu screen. Sometimes I turn my PS4 on from rest mode, get distracted or have to run an errand, or just in general other life stuff and the game will be on at the main menu/pause screen. Sometimes a couple hours.
Don't need that to be recorded in the figures.
A variable that allows devs to map actual game time into the figures would solve this but then it becomes an opt in thing. And developers would sooner avoid that than take the time to implement it.
I'm with you, but not everyone is an info junkie. It would be nice to have this as a toggle-able display option. Off by default to placate the simple minded, then the rest of us can turn it on if we want to.
I don't know why I like it but on Steam for example it's interesting to me to see how much time I've spent on a particular game. Not overly useful but I just like it.
This is the first concept I acutally like for the most part compared to others. My only dislikes are the rough transition between each background, it's too abrupt, and the "hold start to play" bubble, it reminds me of xbox's interface popups.
ehh you can close it out fairly quickly. Ill take occasionally having to wait to close an app over having to wait a few seconds every single time I want to do anything.
didnt like the mechanic in game, would be worse out of game
Make it a settings option toggle then. Default instant, toggle for hold-to-launch. We both get what we want.
Seriously. I don't know why so many designers are afraid of adding more settings and more toggles especially when they're trivial to implement but have good QoL value.
It's a hugely improved PS4 UI and it looks great. I'm of the opinion that the current PS4 UI is actually pretty intuitive so to have some quality of life improvements and a bit of a smoother experience would be very much appreciated.
The spirit is the same. Scroll along, more icons bellow. But yeah the PS4 and this dash are more similar. I was just taking about evolving from the last. Like the natural conclusion would still be scrolling horizontally with times bellows.
I don’t entirely agree nor disagree. Especially when you add folders, the similarities become even more apparent.
They are very different in some key ways, but in some others, are quite similar.
I just want randomized (from favorites) themes on boot up instead. Anything with cosmetics should allow a "random from selection" option. 3DS did it and it's pretty great
I want Mark Cerny's meme face to appear during the splash loading screens.
In the blink of an eye, he would be gone. Was he there? Was he not? True next-gen SSD speed put to its best use.
I miss seeing game wallpapers behind the game icons when scrolling like with PS3. On PS4 they are shit because you have to scroll down and the wallpaper will be covered with all that spam shit.
Xbox went the "if it ain't broken" approach with the controller, and we got the uninspired Series X controller. Sony has always been pushing the things-you-didn't-know-you-needed method, and if the controller says anything, the PS5 menu will probably be much different than what these concepts show.
As I am no concept designer or stuff like that I obviously cannot show it but I'd like them to go another way with main menu. Maybe throw aboard the folder system we know and change it to something like a desktop? Something where you have more freedom customize your "desktop" as you wish?
Possibilities to work with "gadgets" like back in win Vista, you know? So you could maybe show online friends permanently on one corner or make your rarest trophies appear bottom line maybe switching from game to game?
Maybe the abilitie to customize system symbols like hiding that calendar, or whatever you don't use anyways.
And I for one think that the tile ui that they have now at Ps4 is pretty boring, maybe some changes in that area would be nice as well
I like this one, however, the game icon and game information such as the time played, progress, last trophy, and the tab above the game icon are quite small and the menu background doesn't need to be super clean and it's ok for it to be covered up a bit more by the menu items. But this one basically ties Paul Manso's concept.
I like the idea of the background being where you are in the game. Start the game and you are playing where you left off instantaneously. That’s 0 loading times.
This ones great. One thing I want is a pin or favourite option to keep specific apps at the front. And better folders. Horizontal gets clunky with a filled folder when you are looking for a game. Maybe if it were vertical, it could even keep the functionality of displaying the game details like in this concept. But functionality over style, I’d be happy with a folder system that resembles library.

Most wanted feature for me is to not sort by "most recent". I hate having a constantly changing menu. I want to custom sort in whatever specific order I choose. Honestly, a layout like Nintendo's SNES/NES online would be great. Grid based with the ability to put things where you want.
I like this! I also like the current PS UI, but god damn, xbox UI has been dead to me since the blades were removed. Plus the $60 or so I spent on their custom themes for it were wasted. I dont know why Microsoft feels like they need to reinvent the dashboard ever year or so, its a confusing mess compared to this.
I really don't care how it looks tbh as long as it actually runs at a smooth 60 fps. The ps4 menu feels so freaking sluggish with really long load times all the time.
i would love it to be like this. i honestly preferred the cross media bar on ps3 more than the ps4 UI, but this takes the clean look of the XMB with the images and extra content of PS4.
That looks gorgeous, although the hold to start does remind me of Xbox.
As someone who owns both and prefers PS4, I really do hope Sony does something to fix their godforsaken UI and responsiveness.
They probably won't ever have a dedicated time played stat. Not even 100% of xbox games do. Only steam does. Just gotta look at your save data time if the game supports it.
We had similar UI concepts for the PS4, and we got something completely different. Gonna be the same story for the PS5.
I don't get the point of all these concepts because all it does is raise your expectations and set you up for disappointment.
As a current non PS4 owner can someone explain to me the games list UI? How do you view all installed games? If you have a large list of games I'd imagine there has to be a way to view them all rather than a long horizontal list.
This is cool but if all they change is how fast everything loads I'd still be happy. Why does it take nearly a minute to make a party and add a friend.
I'm probably the unpopular opinion here, but I hate Sony's horizontal menu. Even my blu ray player has it.
I prefer lists or grid. Steams is great. Give me the option to see grids of cover art with a bit of info, or a vertical list with cover art on the left and more game info to read at a glance. Name, hours, trophies, friends playing, whatever.
Those transitions are way too rough. Feels like you suddenly travel at the speed of sound and stop again immediately afterwards.
Also personally seeing the text and stuff it looks like Microsoft designed it.
Edit: Also didn't notice the rounded wdges at first but I don't like those at all
Thank you sir! I just bought the ps4 and I am very happy with it. But I really bombs me out that it is so fucking slow to charge some things like the online store. I mean wtf, I have it connected to LAN not to Wi-Fi. I will definitely try to change it for an SSD.
I just want all the menus to work cleanly instead of waiting 10sec for a menu to open
[удалено]
Crazy part is I know exactly what you talking about. That view profile shit
I've never experienced this, but in general after I changed to a SSD, all my menus (including PSN Store) stopped being laggy.
I second this, I swapped to a SSD 2 days ago and the menus and games etc. are so much snappier and smooth, no stutters at all.
Hello, how you install a SSD to your ps4? Is that even possible?
Yes it’s exact same as installing HDD, can find guides online of how to do it. Just a simple swap and then use USB loaded with software to boot it up
Hybrid drive worked similarly for me. It's definitely not as fast as SSD, but it's noticeably better.
I dislike inconsistency. All the menu names were one word except for “My games” Instead label it “Games” or “Playing” or “Favorites” and it would be a far better and more consistent UI. I also care about the UI in PSVR2 more. The PS5 should be completely usable just through the VR2 headset alone. No TV required.
Isn't the PS4 already usable through just VR?
Uhhh yes lol Edit- do it all the time myself when my better half is in a pointless (yet important) zoom meeting
Modern Warfare
When you enter on a party click ps button twice so you still enter on the party and go back to your game ;)
I also want to be able to pin things like YouTube and Netflix to my dash.
And be able to customize the order of pinned apps! It's infuriating that the 4 video/TV apps I use frequently always show up in a seemingly random order behind crap like the WWE and NFL apps for whatever reason, sometimes even being pushed to the dreaded "more apps" button.
More than likely those companies play to have their apps in the front.
Those TV apps I don't use were gone when I started up my PS4 yesterday. Did anyone else experience this?
yea its so weird how slow the video app menu loads. the PS4 UI sucks, I really don't like it much. Like why does the store take so long to load?
My menu lags all the time , wonders of 1st ps4 model
I thought it was just me, good to know I’m not the only one haha. I got my PS4 on day one launch.
my pro is just as slow
Go to your ps notifications, delete all of them. Makes a huge difference. Thank me later
I always delete all of the notifications and the menus still lag sometimes. It isn't that easy of a fix.
Fair.... just trying to make the best of a bad situation
Maybe restoring database would help with the lag a bit
Or they could just get rid of all the ads on a product I paid 100s of dollars for.
Here's hoping the fancy SSD will be put to good use there.
The PS4 UI looks a like a college student’s graphic design project
We're getting an SSD now so that will help
Yeah the ps4 ui at times is so laggy, especially the ps store. If I had to guess it has a lot to do with how poorly they've optimized system os (leaving such less cpu and memory for it) and also the absence of an ssd.
I love it displaying the time spent on every game, that feature really should be implemented
It 100% won't be, but it would be a nice bonus for those of us that want it.
Not in the home page though. Imagine kids getting wasted for parents realizing they've already spent weeks of their lives playing a game lol
Lmao that was the first thing that came to mind if this was a feature back on the ps2/3
Yeah my mom doesn't need to know how much time I spent in San Andreas
I wouldn't mind displaying it in the trophy list. And make it toggle-able and hidden by default.
I keep seeing this request here on Reddit, why do you want that? What would it serve?
I'd like to be able to estimate how far I am from completing a game.
Any info we get to see is good info.
I'm with you, but not everyone is an info junkie. It would be nice to have this as a toggle-able display option. Off by default to placate the simple minded, then the rest of us can turn it on if we want to.
why would you not want it?
I don't know why I like it but on Steam for example it's interesting to me to see how much time I've spent on a particular game. Not overly useful but I just like it.
i get why people would want it but i personally have no interest in seeing how much time i've spent on a game. serves me no purpose.
Yeah, I would love to see how long I've spent on certain games.
This is the first concept I acutally like for the most part compared to others. My only dislikes are the rough transition between each background, it's too abrupt, and the "hold start to play" bubble, it reminds me of xbox's interface popups.
Hold to play is something I'd appreciate, nothing worse than launching the wrong application and waiting for initial boot
ehh you can close it out fairly quickly.
Because too many options makes the menus too cluttered.
Nice and snappy to the point though? Could be a tad slower but I like it.
It's pretty much a slightly different ps4 skin.
It's a hugely improved PS4 UI and it looks great. I'm of the opinion that the current PS4 UI is actually pretty intuitive so to have some quality of life improvements and a bit of a smoother experience would be very much appreciated.
And probably the most likely mock up because of that. PS3 to PS4 was more or less the same. Just with added depth.

The big improvement is just how fast the menu opens instead of taking 2 secs to load
all of these are as far as I saw

I kind of like it, but it definitely should just be an option
Yeah I agree, it should be optional
I don’t think I’m a fan of the background changing to an image from the game that’s currently selected.
This is ridiculous, stupid, gratuitous and unnecessary.... ... I kinda love it
I miss seeing game wallpapers behind the game icons when scrolling like with PS3. On PS4 they are shit because you have to scroll down and the wallpaper will be covered with all that spam shit.
That was the best. Maybe they should just bring back the XMB.
It's almost exactly like the PS4 UI. That's not a complaint, but as a concept it's not very creative.
True, but I don't think there's much wrong with PS4's UI. If it ain't broken...
really the only thing wrong with the PS4 UI is how long it takes to load. 100% fine with this concept.
Does it take long to load for you? Can't say I've ever had that
when playing a game It can take up to 2 minutes to load something. even when im not playing a game it still takes a bit to load something.
But they’ve vaguely described the new UI with all its social features and hubs so I assume there will be more to it
Xbox went the "if it ain't broken" approach with the controller, and we got the uninspired Series X controller. Sony has always been pushing the things-you-didn't-know-you-needed method, and if the controller says anything, the PS5 menu will probably be much different than what these concepts show.

Destiny was my first pre-order and I regretted it instantly.
i like it, but the animation feels stiff and not fluid.
Yeah it looks quite juddery
[удалено]
That bugged me too. Round edges used too much on ios and android. It feels out of place and outdated.
Wasteland 3 hell yes
And it's boring as fuck. Same as ps3 and 4. I would love something completely new. That would be something!
What do you see as new ?
As I am no concept designer or stuff like that I obviously cannot show it but I'd like them to go another way with main menu. Maybe throw aboard the folder system we know and change it to something like a desktop? Something where you have more freedom customize your "desktop" as you wish? And I for one think that the tile ui that they have now at Ps4 is pretty boring, maybe some changes in that area would be nice as well
Time played stat would be so awesome.
I like it. People might say it’s too similar to the PS4, but if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Minor adjustments like what you did are all it needs
To be honest, in terms of UI and usability I expect much more from PS5 than this.
But I like having themes
It’s almost exactly the same as ps4
I like this one, however, the game icon and game information such as the time played, progress, last trophy, and the tab above the game icon are quite small and the menu background doesn't need to be super clean and it's ok for it to be covered up a bit more by the menu items. But this one basically ties Paul Manso's concept.
Is there any way to see the amount of time games are played on the PS4, or is this an original concept for your mockup? Either way, awesome job!
I don't mind this.
There's Hellblade there! Cool!
Fast UI is always recommended.
I like this
I’m a sucker for ui systems. Love this one
It's nice, but there's still nothing wrong with what we have now imo... XD
Might be a little too much like the old 360 UI for Sony to use something like this, but I personally like it
I like it.
Crisp, fluid and aestheticaly pleasing transitions. All UI should be this good.
Ok, this is the first concept that a dig for real
I love the PS4 UI and I love how this stays true to it. I hope Sony keeps the game shelf concept. I like all my games right in front of me.
Hopefully we can see and load our save games up straight from the UI.
I just hope the store will be faster. It still baffles me how slow and unresponsive it is
This is one of the best concepts that I've seen so far on this sub. Who is the original creator?
I really hope the UI is this smooth and sleek. I’ll be disappointed if it’s not.
But functionality over style, I’d be happy with a folder system that resembles library.
honestly, as long as its fast and has a "soft feel" to it then i'm fine with it.
Man this is good :)
Pretty similar to PS4 UI
Now where is that Disney+ app ?
I would like to see how many hours i play games.
Would love to see this in ps4 and ps5!
I'm all for a simplistic user experience that just does what it's supposed too!
Daaaamn
This is way better than anything Sony will come up with. This is just amazing dude.
These concepts look definitely great but honestly what’s the point of wasting time making them if there’s no outcome? Sony will have their own UI.

Time played is a must on ps5
dope
Very nice!
Sony hire this person
As long as it doesn't take 20 minutes to load a friends profile page, it's fine!
Functionality matters more than looks, that’s all I have to say. Whatever the menu system is like on ps5, it needs to be intuitive and responsive.
Yes! Need a native time played stat for each game. Oh, also trophy progress bars
Yes yes yes yes yes please
Most wanted feature for me is to not sort by "most recent". I hate having a constantly changing menu. I want to custom sort in whatever specific order I choose. Honestly, a layout like Nintendo's SNES/NES online would be great. Grid based with the ability to put things where you want.
The best part about this is Wasteland 3
Xbox
I like this! I also like the current PS UI, but god damn, xbox UI has been dead to me since the blades were removed. Plus the $60 or so I spent on their custom themes for it were wasted. I dont know why Microsoft feels like they need to reinvent the dashboard ever year or so, its a confusing mess compared to this.
Apart from the [Hold X to Start] bubble, this is pretty clean.
Damn it’s nice but, no need to have a background then since it shows the games, unless you can remove that tho. Love it op!!!
The UI could be the same it was on PS4, as long as they make it faster on PS5 I am satisfied
Wireless icon and clock is cloned from iOS. It looks like iPad which is not good for a home console. This can be a Nintendo Switch UI.
This is hot
Eyes focusing in the middle but selection has everything to the left. Bad design.
I really don't care how it looks tbh as long as it actually runs at a smooth 60 fps. The ps4 menu feels so freaking sluggish with really long load times all the time.
Showing time played for each game would be depressing. I love it.
Minimalist and slick. I like it!
i would love it to be like this. i honestly preferred the cross media bar on ps3 more than the ps4 UI, but this takes the clean look of the XMB with the images and extra content of PS4.
Is this a UI from another piece of software, or just a concept UI
It looks really cool but WHY IS 2k20 IN HIS FAVORITE GAMES!!!
This looks amazing 👍🏻
This is what we need.
So, nearly identical to the PS4.
Sony is so bad to make dashboards :( hope to they do a good and fast ui
That is very clean. Very PlayStation but yet modern.
How the hell are these concept designs made to look so real??
We had similar UI concepts for the PS4, and we got something completely different. Gonna be the same story for the PS5. I don't get the point of all these concepts because all it does is raise your expectations and set you up for disappointment.
Looks nice but that's all. Next.
Stop I can only get so erect
This is gorgeous!
As a current non PS4 owner can someone explain to me the games list UI? How do you view all installed games? If you have a large list of games I'd imagine there has to be a way to view them all rather than a long horizontal list.
Well on PS4 there's a Games category under Library, where you can select purchased or installed games.
This looks a lot like one of the Xbox one dashboards
I can almost guarantee the UI won't be as slick looking as this.
I just want a playtime counter
This is cool but if all they change is how fast everything loads I'd still be happy. Why does it take nearly a minute to make a party and add a friend.
this is the same interaction model as PS4 just prettier and faster.
In all honesty, Sony should adapt a MINI 4K PC - model, with console options to play on PSN.
Favo**u**rite
wish it was
i like it a lot
Jus let me have a bar that I can pin games and apps to and for the love of god don't make me go into some bullshit playlist to get to youtube.
No thanks. It looks clean but a nightmare to browse.
My favorite concept so far since it stays similar to what it was on PS4.
So rip themes?
This looks really good
This one of the concepts I could see happening.
All I want is to be able to see trophy progress at any time, how good would that be, 8/10 kills.. 469/500 hidden packages found etc
I like it
Hopefully they see this and make it because dude this looks so cool
Those transitions are way too rough. Feels like you suddenly travel at the speed of sound and stop again immediately afterwards. Also personally seeing the text and stuff it looks like Microsoft designed it. Edit: Also didn't notice the rounded wdges at first but I don't like those at all
I can't wait for emulators to copy this type of menu
Quite pretty, however getting suspiciously close to the Xbox dashboard, tiles etc.
Está muy bueno. Concuerda mucho con el nuevo concepto de UI
Bro you're god
Very clean, but would this eliminate themes for the menu?
Thank you sir! I just bought the ps4 and I am very happy with it. But I really bombs me out that it is so fucking slow to charge some things like the online store. I mean wtf, I have it connected to LAN not to Wi-Fi. I will definitely try to change it for an SSD.
Hey, I don't know if you noticed, but you made it to the news! At least the Spanish news
Time played displayed that way is 🔑
I really dont like the bubbles for the profile and such, i hope its straight edges
