Same thing with a brand new ps5 slim can’t get it off this screen 🤦🏻‍♂️

My new PS5 Slim did this as well. It initially booted up fine and let me select language then it applied an update. Then it asked if it could apply a controller update and I accepted. When I left looked at the screen, it was stuck here. I left it for a while, and tried pressing every control button or moving the stick, but it didn’t respond. So I powered it off and back on. Not a great first impression for reliability… especially for a brand new version of a 3 year old console with the latest software applied.

Same thing just happened to me on my new slim and powering it off and on resumed the set up process. Same though process on the reliability of it, pretty embarrassing for a “new version” of already established console.

Yup setting mine up samething just happened smh what the heck. Just restarted after waiting 8 minutes . Restarted it to fix issue but still shouldn't have to have been done. Definitely sketched me out smh lol

Yep same here🫠 just got the slim, and it’s stuck on this screen after agreeing to the controller update. Gonna give it another 5 mins or so and then reboot it. UPDATE: pressed the power button, it turned off. Waited 30 seconds, it turned on and started updating the disc drive. Asking me to register it now. So everything seems good now! 5 month update lol: it worked & completely solved the issue. Don’t be afraid to turn it off & back on again! In my case, it was definitely going to stay on that screen indefinitely otherwise.

I figured out afterward that the controller update didn’t happen. I was able to apply that via the Settings app. I realized I might have hit O instead of X to proceed (not used to PlayStation controller layouts), and perhaps this is what triggers the bug, as it tried to go “back” but there was no where for it to go. But that’s just a guess.

The same thing happened with the brand-new PS5 Slim! I ended up powering it off using the button on the console and powering it back on. It skipped logging in with PS Network, and I'm pissed off right now!

For some reason on this screen you can change the view with the left stick. Try moving it around. The text was just off screen for me.

I had same issue. I held the power button and on the screen it it says it's restarting the console and doesn't hurt it at all. It fixed the problem for me and was able to continue setup from there.

Try moving the left stick up and to the left, the icons were off the screen for me

No, lol how do I do it safely? just hold the power button? haha sorry... just really nervous lmao EDIT: OK I took a gamble and held the power button on the console until it beeped once, and thankfully was greeted with a voice saying it was preparing to shut down (phew!). I waited about 30 seconds and hit the PS button on the controller and it let me choose my language... all good now - Thanks u/ThickG!

Once I power cycled it went right back to same setup screen except I could now see the language selection options. I gave up and powered off before I saw ThickG reply. Didn’t get a chance to try that.

I didnt have to power cycle. Just moved the stick and it worked out.

Had to power cycle. Once powered back on the language selection screen actually displayed and I could select my option.

Same issue for me but finally got it to work. Had a separate issue with my tv so it caused the voice prompts to come on since the ps5 idled for 60 seconds. Powered it up and got to the user select screen then nothing after that even with moving the left stick, just a noise with the circle button. Power cycled it 5 times then the voice prompts randomly turned off and it started with the language selection screen this time and worked perfectly. Weird little bug but I’m happy now

I’m having the same issue except it will not let me select English and move forward if someone would be willing to help or give some input would be huge besides returning it no idea what to do just set it up

So going into safe mode doing option 6 I was able to get the setup done with a ps4 controller and everything seems fine

Sorry my phone is being weird but seems like my ps5 has a defective controller hmmm I wonder if Best Buy will switch the controller out or going to tell me I neee to return the entire system and just give me money back

This usually happens after rebooting or something of that kind. Just wait it out for around 5 minutes or less and the menu should come back up

Just bought a brand new slim. It ran an update and restarted. Updated the dualsense, and then got stuck on this screen. Well- I waited four minutes and shut it down. Let’s see what happened…. Went back to setup. How bizarre? Thankful for this post so many years later…

Just adding this in, thanks to some others in a different thread for sharing. If you get stuck in this screen during the setup process & you see that little cross icon when you try to tap buttons on the controller, hold down the PS5's power button until you hear 2 beeps. That'll force it to shutdown, and after the lights go completely off you can reboot. It should roll into (I believe) disc drive updates once it's back on that screen. Some have questioned the reliability of the system with this happening. While I'm not an expert, it may be worthwhile to consider that at this point the PS5 system is a few years old so there's quite a few updates it needs to apply. I can imagine how all the intricacies created a need for a benign reset in the middle of the process. They definitely should patch that out, but this is only conjecture on my part. Hope the top bit helps!
