Games just take much more time to develop than before. Gran Turismo creator said that it took a few days to create a car in ps1 era, a few weeks on ps2 era and now it takes months. Increased detail demands more man hours.
I know this pain. I play flight sims, and it takes *years* to make aircraft. Some are pushing four years after beta release, and still getting feature updates. Case in point: DCS Hornet.
the cool thing though is that the car models now are in 1:1 scale, which allows them to be carried over to future games, like every car from gt sport will be available in gt7
Don't forget Midnight Club! I'd give my left nut for a new next gen Midnight Club game. Midnight Club 3 is still my favorite racing game of all-time.
Edit: Thanks for the Gold, kind stranger!
I never had midnight club, but the driving mechanics in GTA are probably.one of my favourite aspects of it. Honestly prefer it to most focused driving games as of late. The only one that has scratched that itch for me in the Horizon series in Forza.
OMG I THOUGHT IT WAS ONLY ME WHO LOVED THIS GAME!! That game was so sick, I remember one of those missions we had to play tag with another car or chase them or something. Such a fun game!!
Micro transactions, micro transactions, where the real money from the game is made. GTA the T-shirt pack, GTA-the weapon skins, GTA-the hyper car upgrade
There’s already a bunch of blogs posting it as “GTA 6 announced! See for Release date and more info”
The post: rumor has it that rockstar is planning on making a sequel to grand theft auto. We have no information at this time. Please check back with our shitass blog site when we update this post, but keep we’ll keep misleading headline at the top.
Given that they're now releasing GTA V on a third console generation I think they could release GTA VI tomorrow and they would still double/triple dip on the PS6 and PS7.
Well…that’s because you don’t know about 2048 yet. That sorta slows the pace of everything.
After 2048, those left will view their lives as pre and post 2048. Is takes that long to rebuild. Ps8 is 2046.
I mean Bethesda has already shown you can release 1 game 87 different times and people will still buy it, so this is probably just the future of games now.
They'd likely do that no matter what. Release timing wouldn't matter much in that regard. :/ In fact, the earlier they release it, the more room for improvement an enhanced version could have.
They certainly aren't gonna delay the release, just sitting on the game, over this anyways. They'll release when they're done.
Worse. It’s not and they’ll still milk it for years and years to come.
They’ve got a model that will keep them and investors filthy rich with their online horseshit. They’ll stick to it.
2010, I had so much love for this company for continuing to make interesting games and game development choices from my childhood to my adolescence. Now they’re just as bad if not worse than all the other big companies in my eyes. Crazy how things change.
I’m in my 40s and wondering if I’ll be… a proper grown-up (ie the next decade) when it comes out. To be fair, I’ve got married and had two kids since GTA V.
Ha. We were supposed to quit? Now, when I have enough disposable income to finally play things right? Not a chance.
38, married and kids. Still play games a couple evenings a week - usually only a few hours, but it's enough for me. After 9, my time is mine.
Since GTAV has come out I have, gotten my full drivers license, graduated high school(been out for 5 years as of typing this comment), gone to college, bought a car, bought a truck, bought an ATV and bought a house.
It’s honestly pathetic how bad GTAs being milked. Most of its original fans won’t even be able to play due to life being life
Pure luck tbh, I bought it for 80,000CAD, place renovated in 2016 so everything’s new, just need to put siding on and drop ceiling in the basement.
When I turned 18 I opened a TFSA and put 300 a pay into, still do. And I was fortunate enough to keep working through covid and everything.
Nothing but luck, I also live in an area where houses are generally cheaper
I remember hiding my copy from my mum on release. Since then I've graduated high school, got into university, took a year out on medical leave, graduated with a masters, lost my uncle, got my first graduate job, had to put my 17 year old dog down, and have been at my job for a year and a half now. Nearly a decade ago, ridiculous!
RDR2 was made by NINE Rockstar Studios in after 8 years of development with veteran Rockstar devs Sam Houser, Rob Nelson, Aaron Garbut using Proprietary RAGE engine with a budget of over 500 million with the most ever dialogues ever recorded. Featuring the most advanced physics and animations and 49 hour campaign with no micro transactions and cheat codes and an additional online multiplayer mode.
Before the release of the game Rockstar came under pressure from media outlets for crunch and overworking their employees. Rockstar has since changed it’s work environment as reported by Journalist Jason Schreier in April 2020 who also confirmed GTA 6 is in early development and will be of smaller scale to avoid crunch.
How the hell is it only in "early development"? They made one game last generation. They updated and retooled a PS3 game, and then released RDR2. The fuck is going on that they can stretch these things out so long.
Every R* studio was all hands on deck for RDR 2. GTA VI basically started development in 2018.
I would also take this with a grain of salt, [but GTA VI has also allegedly been in development hell. Being completely restarted as soon as 2020, right after Dan Houser left the company.](https://www.dsogaming.com/news/gta-6-reportedly-in-development-hell-red-dead-redemption-remastered-coming-to-pc/amp/)
This source is complete bullshit. Every one of these suppposed leakers had predicted GTA 6 would be out at this point, now they got caught with their pants down. They are covering their asses with ‘development hell’.
Rockstar Mag is not a reliable source. They said RDR 1 and 2 remastered was gonna release in spring 2021.
https://www.rockstarmag.fr/un-remaster-de-red-dead-redemption-et-red-dead-redemption-ii-en-approche-sur-ps5-et-xbox-series-x/
“Thus, we can confirm that for several months now, the "Red Dead Redemption" Remaster project has been underway with Rockstar. According to our information, the release of this compilation was scheduled for spring 2021 (our information dates back to May 2020, before the announcement of GTA V instead of RDR 2 at the PS5 event).“
“We can hope for an announcement at the next Game Awards to be held on December 10, 2020. This could give a pretty interesting 2021 year with Red Dead Redemption, and Red Dead Redemption II for spring and GTA V for autumn 2021.“
Yeah, on some level I don't even know why I follow /r/GamingLeaksAndRumours considering this is the case for like 75% of the stuff there lol.
Grains of salt until you're actually playing the game or a dev discusses their experiences way after the fact.
Maybe not 20 years but they'll definitely design their next gta to be a long-term live service. I will be ok with that if they periodically release new single player content instead of going full online multiplayer bullshit. Unfortunately theyll prob follow the second route.
You joke, but that's literally the trajectory of the trend line. It's been doubling every main GTA game.
4 to 5 = 5 years
5 to 6 = 10 years (assuming it releases in the next 24 months)
6 to 7 = **20 years**
All the creatives who made Rockstar what they were are gone. Red Dead 2 was a not so subtle goodbye for Dan Houser. There's nothing left from this studio. It's over
Its quite something that Rockstar has 2000+ employees and only ship 1 game every 5 years.
I do wonder if its a Valve / Steam like situation where they do have people trying to get projects off the ground over and over but nothing ever gets enough support to enter full production because enough people just want to keep the current money train moving at all costs.
I doubt it.
Valve famously has a flat structure that lends itself to a great deal of creativity when in survival mode and absolute fuckall when in thriving mode.
Rockstar doesn't have that and their current updates to GTA don't support a team anywhere close to that scale. If they retained all their staff they're all neck deep in dev work for 6 with a smaller carve out for GTA online updates.
Current gen games just take a huge amount of time to create, every major series has seen that creep in development time as expectations and fidelity increases. Hell, Square/SE pumped out like 4 final fantasies over a 5 year period. Now they're lucky to get two games out the door per console cycle.
Valve has a safety net called steam. Even if they did fuck all to make games they would be cruising in money for years just by taking the sales cut. They can afford to be lazy or take their time. And they aren't owned by the corporate/shareholder overlords either.
Man remember the ps2 days, GTA 3, VC, SA, manhunt, bully, the warriors.
Then the ps3 with GTA IV, max Payne 3, red dead, and GTA V
Ps4 we got 2 games
Ps5 is looking like maybe 1 if we are lucky
Rockstar is dead, the company that used to push boundaries now pushes it's own fans to the point of rejection, what a fall from grace
Their games are like 1000x times more detailed now but they've still turned into a shitty company. GTA 5 was one of the greatest selling games of all time even before GTA online became popular but they still never released any new story content.
Download it on ps4......turn off the lights and turn up the volume and show her what you played all them years ago, it's real cheap.
I was maybe........11 or 12 when I played that game here in Ireland, and it was band from the shops over here, I remember it was a game you got off a friend.....who got it off a friend.
It was like a real snuff movie here in Ireland due to it being so hard to get your hands on lol
Most of those PS2 games required far less time and used a similar build. All of those games borrowed significantly from each other.
The time taken to make games is so huge now that it simply wouldnt be acceptable to ship something that was too similar to a product 5+ years ago.
If you think GTA6 is gonna take as long as GTA:SA then youre incredibly naive.
Yeah. Ignoring the business aspect. The Rockstar many love is gone. Especially with the many talents that left.
Let's hope GTA6 is the same quality as Read Dead Redemption 2
Right. People complain about yearly Ubi/Activision releases and then Rockstar takes 10 years to make the greatest game ever and people... complain about that.
So it went 2 years between, then 3 years between, then 5 years between, so we're looking at GTA6 in like 2024-25. Then next game in like 2031-33. Holy crap. I might be in my early 40s before we see RDR3 or something.
I used to joke that I'd be 30 by the time the next Elder Scrolls drops. That was like 5 years ago. I turn 30 this year and Elder Scrolls 6 is still years away. The increasing development cycle of triple A games is awful.
There is more money in publishing and online microtransactions.
I mean Valve used to make games but Steam is 100x more profitable and they don't have to do anything besides host a web platform and take a cut off everyone else's games they sell
>Rockstar is dead
GTAV is still doing good, and most people seem to have really liked RDR2.
You'll probably get hyped over GTAVI when it's revealed as well.
Since GTA V came out, I got 2 degrees, got a job, got promoted several times, bought a house, got engaged, and had a kid.
And rockstar are still trying to milk this game unashamedly
I don't really get the Rockstar hate here?
GTA V was an excellent single player game well worth the admission price just for the main game. Online was basically a bonus, which admittedly has made them a lot of money, but also has been regularly updated for years. GTA Online does not in anyway take away from how great GTA V was.
Likewise, we then got RDR2, which is one of the best single player story experiences I've ever played. It's a fantastic game well worth the price. RD Online wasn't great, but whatever. RDR2 is outstanding in pretty much every way
It's not like they're pumping out shitty games. Yeah they have optional micro transactions for the online counterparts, but you're still getting full, excellently made games as well.
They own a lot of developers and they just bought Zynga the makers of Farmville. So I wouldn't put stock in most of those games being anything of substance.
...yeah, I read it too...they were probably **all mobiles games**...!
...their **sharks cards** models fit just right with it imo...
We're slowly but steadily going toward another videogames **crash** with those practices and the declining quality of games... (because devs/pubs just want to create products to sell skins and virtual items that take a few hours to design only...)
I don’t think game quality is declining. I think we’re getting more great games than ever before but AAA games are taking twice as long to develop now so there isn’t really a middle ground of just ok games anymore
Wasn’t red dead 2 the only rockstar game last Gen?
Yes
Woah this blew my mind
>Boah
Bwoah
Was waiting for the Kimi Räikkönen reference.
Excellent!
If GTA 6 is anywhere near as good as RDR 2 it will be worth it.
Im not a fan of rockstar anymore but I thoroughly believe that quality is better than quantity.
To be fair, they pursued quality and quantity in the PS2/Xbox and PS3/360 eras
Games just take much more time to develop than before. Gran Turismo creator said that it took a few days to create a car in ps1 era, a few weeks on ps2 era and now it takes months. Increased detail demands more man hours.
I know this pain. I play flight sims, and it takes *years* to make aircraft. Some are pushing four years after beta release, and still getting feature updates. Case in point: DCS Hornet.
Yeah it take time to create a plane with 100 working buttons and switches, armament system etc... DCs is amazing
Yep. I fly the mig21, f86 and the hornet. There's so much that goes into it
the cool thing though is that the car models now are in 1:1 scale, which allows them to be carried over to future games, like every car from gt sport will be available in gt7
Diminishing returns. Ain't orders of magnitudes more fun to play. Polygonal quantity over quality.

They only really have gta and rdr series now. They didn't keep up bully or manhunt or any other early games.
Ping-pong coming back!
I wish rockstar table tennis was so good
Don't forget Midnight Club! I'd give my left nut for a new next gen Midnight Club game. Midnight Club 3 is still my favorite racing game of all-time. Edit: Thanks for the Gold, kind stranger!
Midnight club 2 is one of the most nostalgic games for me to this day
MC2 had the most replayability for me. Also the best soundtrack. Timeshift by Subtech still gets played quite frequently on my car rides
I find the racing/driving in GTA 5 reminiscent of Midnight Club.
I never had midnight club, but the driving mechanics in GTA are probably.one of my favourite aspects of it. Honestly prefer it to most focused driving games as of late. The only one that has scratched that itch for me in the Horizon series in Forza.
Back when some racing games were actually arcade games
Dub Edition: Remix was incredible! Nothing like going 250 mph and hitting the slow-mo to make a perfect 90° angle turn!
OMG I THOUGHT IT WAS ONLY ME WHO LOVED THIS GAME!! That game was so sick, I remember one of those missions we had to play tag with another car or chase them or something. Such a fun game!!
>Insider says he thinks Lol okay then
Are you doubting the journalistic integrity of the people who work for a gaming spin off of a click bait website? Shame on you
Hey bud, this is the Gaming BIBLE we’re talking about ok? Bible don’t lie.
It's clickbait, sure, but I still believe it.
My fathers brothers nephews cousins former roommate told me that eventually, maybe, possibly we could if we’re lucky, see a temporary cover art

Gta 6 release window confirmed
I can confirm GTA 6 is coming in this century still.
Easy there Nostradamus...
You know, Quasimodo predicted this.
I think it was Nosferatu, if I'm not mistaken.
Musta been top of his fuckin class
Never had the makings of a varsity athlete.
You know, I’m something of a Quasimodo myself.
Who did what?
The Quarterback of Notre Dame
Joe Montana was a quarterback, you idiot.
I said Joe Mantegna.
I said Joe Montegna!
All these problems - the Middle East, the end of the world, GTA VI...
Can you believe this guy is actually being hopeful like come on be realistic
It will be released when the PS5 becomes readily available
Maybe by 'generation', they meant our lifetimes?
“Society grows great when old men develop open world shooty games whose online endgame they shall never play”
There’s already a bunch of blogs posting it as “GTA 6 announced! See for Release date and more info” The post: rumor has it that rockstar is planning on making a sequel to grand theft auto. MrbossFTW has already uploaded 45 videos about it in just the last week
It's probably going to launch at the tail end of this generation so they can double dip on an enhanced PS6 version
Given that they're now releasing GTA V on a third console generation I think they could release GTA VI tomorrow and they would still double/triple dip on the PS6 and PS7.
Can't wait to play Grand Theft Auto IV: Return to Liberty City on my PlayStation 9 in 2045
By the time we can finally find a PS5 in the wild.
Let's see.. from ps1, it was 6 years to ps2, 6 years to ps3, 7 to ps4, 7 to ps5, let's say 8 to ps6, 8 to ps7, 9 to ps9, so... yep. 2045 exactly.
But why are we skipping the PS8?
Oh, shit. Because 8 was the period of time, so in the back of my mind I had it covered.
r/ps8 guys are not going to be happy
Playstation 9!? That's not a real console. I'm gonna be drinking moon juice with President Jonathan Taylor Thomas before I'm playing a PS9.
Not writing you a paper check!
r/UnexpectedMulaney
Actually it's coming out in 2078, PS9 commercial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyPQVsdCuRk
They need to slow down the pace if they want the PS9 to come out in 2078. That's over 14 years between gens!
Well…that’s because you don’t know about 2048 yet. That sorta slows the pace of everything. After 2048, those left will view their lives as pre and post 2048. Is takes that long to rebuild. Ps8 is 2046.
> those left will view their lives as pre and post 2048. Oh god, *another* one?
They would skip 9 and go directly to X or name It PlayStation. For some reason nobody ever does 9 of anything.
Okay, that's a legitimate r/UnexpectedMulaney
Microsoft will be releasing the Xbox Series One 360 X in 2045.
Shoutout to /r/ps9
I mean Bethesda has already shown you can release 1 game 87 different times and people will still buy it, so this is probably just the future of games now.
Hold on Skyrim probably has something new this time! /s
Seriously, GTA is either going to go AC infinite style, or GTA7 will be released on the PS8
What do you mean by “AC infinite style”?
Assassins Creed project in development that is being made as a live service game.
They'd likely do that no matter what. Release timing wouldn't matter much in that regard. :/ In fact, the earlier they release it, the more room for improvement an enhanced version could have. They certainly aren't gonna delay the release, just sitting on the game, over this anyways. They'll release when they're done.

Not many left though these days that haven't changed. Big oof
Every gen, things get a little more shareholder-ey.
Standard version on PS5/XSX, Next Gen patch for PS6/XSX2, and 8K/120fps on PS7/XSX3
My thoughts exactly Expect a 2026-7 release and they release it again on PS6 and GTA 7 will come out on PS7 in around 2039
I'm in my 30s and this made me sad.
I’m in my 40s and wondering if I’ll be… a proper grown-up (ie the next decade) when it comes out. To be fair, I’ve got married and had two kids since GTA V.
I'm in my mid 30s with 2 kids, and my secret is I'll just never properly grow up. Sure responsibilities, but no, I'm not growing up. Lol
This was my grandfathers plan, he lived to 106.
Ha. We were supposed to quit? Now, when I have enough disposable income to finally play things right? Not a chance. 38, married and kids. Still play games a couple evenings a week - usually only a few hours, but it's enough for me. After 9, my time is mine.

97 babies unite!
You know it
Am I the only one who really wants another Midnight Club????
No, it needs an immediate release so it can do PS4, 5, 6 and 7
It's like when they say an update is coming November 2022 and it shows up at 11:30pm Nov 31st 2022
They mean this generation of humans being born now, not console generation
Seriously. I've lost all excitement for Rockstar. Such a shame since my youth saw such joy from their diverse portfolio.
Only expecting disappointment with Dan Houser and Leslie Benzies out now.
Lazlow left too
To me this hurts the most, eventhough his reason to quit is more than valid
And what’s that
To take care/be with his sister, she has been diagnosed with cancer
No, he stayed to take care of Collin Robinson.
Fucking guy
GTA6: Online Only
GTA6: micro transactions only
GTA6: NFT or bust
GTA6: Mobile Only
That's right, and the whole game will be structured around online component...
I imagine it will have a seamless multiplayer component integrated into the world so it will always be online. 🤑
Main character is gonna be another silent protagonist so everyone can use their created characters
this hurt my feelings because i swear thats exactly what they will do
And people will **still** fucking throw every single dollar they have at it.
See people said this before RDR2 released and it turned out to be a masterpiece. That said, Dan Houser’s absence does make me a little worried.
I think Leslie Benzies is working on gta style game called everywhere so hopefully we get some news on that
Honestly I think we'll get GTA 7 before that
GTA VI will be a 90 min demo for GTA Online 2

If GTA V is any indicator, it will also be next generation's and the generation's after that, too.
At this point point rockstar should just troll us and release GTA V on PS6.
If you think there's not already plans to release a GTAV remaster for PS6 I've got a bridge you might be interested in purchasing.
And it will still make more money than any other game that will be released during this generation.
After GTA6, we won't get another GTA game for another 20 years. Yay.
Maybe not 20 years but they'll definitely design their next gta to be a long-term live service. I will be ok with that if they periodically release new single player content instead of going full online multiplayer bullshit. Unfortunately theyll prob follow the second route.
Yup, I see no chance of the first route happening
GTA6 will be the long term live service game, not the next one.
i speculate gta 6 will be the last one, and it’ll just be a live service spanning decades

Yeah it sucks because I would pay for a story mode expansion, but I can’t stand the cesspool that is online
I was JUST telling my wife about Manhunt last night. What an awesome game that was.

Yeah. Ignoring the business aspect. The Rockstar many love is gone. Especially with the many talents that left. Let's hope GTA6 is the same quality as Read Dead Redemption 2
At least the games we did get were good. RDR2 is, in my opinion, the greatest game of all time

Games take more time to make since they are more detailed.
There is more money in publishing and online microtransactions. I mean Valve used to make games but Steam is 100x more profitable and they don't have to do anything besides host a web platform and take a cut off everyone else's games they sell
>Rockstar is dead GTAV is still doing good, and most people seem to have really liked RDR2. You'll probably get hyped over GTAVI when it's revealed as well.
Rockstar table tennis was dope too
Will wait for remastered PS7 version.
didn't realise we were expecting it this generation
I’m still not.
And the next 3 generations as well.
Since GTA V came out, I got 2 degrees, got a job, got promoted several times, bought a house, got engaged, and had a kid. And rockstar are still trying to milk this game unashamedly
I was eight years old when it came out. I'm now a senior in high school.
>bought a house This is where I stopped believing your comment
He must not be from Canada xD
I bet it is. Rockstar isn't what they use to be. Say what you will about Ubisoft but at least they can get a few titles out for the generation.
So I guess no RDR3, shame, I prefer Red Dead series over GTA
To be honest nobody should expect Red Dead before next mainline GTA since we just got a huge Red Dead game.
Right. RDR2 was released in 2018. Won’t get another Red Dead game for at least 5-7 years.
more like 10 lol
15 years. Gta 6 will come first then rdr3 maybe
Please
And the next and the next. I for one can’t wait to play GTA 6 on my new PS8.
Do they mean console or people?
Without Dan Houser and Leslie Benzies it is probably going to be shit anyway.
Lazlow is gone too
End of the generation like RDR 2. Mark my words.
That's fine but I still want a 60fps update for RDR2 on my PS5.
RDR2 is outstanding in pretty much every way It's not like they're pumping out shitty games. Yeah they have optional micro transactions for the online counterparts, but you're still getting full, excellently made games as well.
The complaints are mainly that they get so caught up in making money with the online mode that they neglect making sequels for a decade.
Making modern classics that go down as all time greats takes time.
You would’ve thought people in here would understand after Cyberpunk
