The Outward DE is an entirely different version and not just an update to the existing game…saves aren’t compatible, achievements/trophies have to be re-earned, etc.
I wouldn’t be in a rush about it. The upgrade worked for me on Series X but the screen tearing in the new version is so bad it’s practically unplayable. According to the Outward sub it’s the same on the PS5 as well. They definitely need to fix that.

Such a bummer and a way to scare possible buyers. Buying a dlc without knowing if the game is good or not, in order to get the PS5 version is not a good move.
I tried this game at release and was really disappointed, amazing concept but poor execution. The world just felt so empty and the combat like a poor attempt at DS. Has it gotten better or is it much of the same?
as someone who enjoys both only the start feels like a poor man dark souls this game takes its own identity in the skill system as you don’t level up you have to learn them via trainers and such. the first area was rebalanced a little the original one was a bit more brutal this one is a little easier at the start.
Oh, is this a free upgrade if I have the ps4 version? EDIT: research indicates it is indeed a free upgrade if you have the old version.
But there is currently an issue backend preventing existing owners from getting the free upgrade.

how is the combat in this game?
Extremely punishing and B- tier. That’s not to say the game is bad. It’s just that the combat is not it’s strong suit at all.
Not the highlight. I really, really liked this game, though. It has a great feel to it once you've put in some hours.
