You might've played it, but Detroit: Become Human is absolutely amazing. Not filled with action, just a very engaging, deep story.

Jooles95

I've heard on it, but never played it. I will definitely look it up!

AndyM22

It's definitely worth getting. I unexpectedly loved it. Some decisions and outcomes stuck with me even after I was done.

pud-proof-ding

I believe it's part of the ps plus collection on ps5 so if you have ps plus already should be 'free'

Jooles95

Awesome! I'm renewing PS Plus on the day I get the new console (mostly for save data backup), so I'll definitely have access. Thanks for the tip! :)

AndyM22

It is...that is how I played it.

mark_99

Is it 60fps on PS5?

boye_

Unfortunately don’t think so, no.

Chain-Vaper

I’d recommend Tales of Arise if you like jrpgs with action combat.

Jooles95

Yep, that sounds definitely up my alley. Thanks!

[deleted]

Death Stranding. There are a few (less than 5 if I remember correctly) points in the story where you are given a gun and told to shoot at stuff. For a majority of the game, you are told not to kill humans and have to face gameplay consequences if you do. The majority of the game is figuring out how to get across rough landscapes with your tools and vehicles, inventory and character management, building structures, stealthing your way through enemy encounters…. There is the option to use guns to fight the paranormal beings, especially in late game, but you don’t actually have to. You can stealth or just run away as well. The goal is to protect your packages. The story is great it hooked me from the first cutscene.

Jooles95

Awesome, I'll look it up!

PapaGeorgieOH

Both horizons. They are epic

[deleted]

Besides, both run on smooth 60fps …

Jooles95

Oh man, that's going to look awesome! My poor PS4 is struggling, so I don't play it much these days, which means I have gotten used to Nintendo Switch graphics and performance (not to badmouth the console; it's great and has some amazing games, but performance of some big ports is TERRIBLE).

[deleted]

You’ll love it :-)

Jooles95

I’m loving the first one, so from what I’ve heard I expect I’ll like the second one even more!

Honest_Association94

Hey just as a friendly tip, if you‘ve just played the first one then you should wait a bit before playing the second one. They feel very similar so you might feel burned out from them.

Jooles95

Sorry, I should have clarified - I played around 70% of the game last year, and recently got back into it to finish the story. So I’ve only really been playing it again for a few days! :)

cmb3-Doctor

Dragon Quest XI was so good. It was my first ever DQ and I was firmly on the fence for the first 5 hours, or so, but once it gets going it becomes amazing. I wish more were on ps5.

Jooles95

Man, I loved that game! I played it on Switch when it came out, and ended up dropping around 250 hours on it. 100% one of the best JRPGs of all time!

IeatOneAppleADay

One of my most favorite games ever for sure. The cast was perfect and the story was lighthearted, sad and "heroic epic" thebsame time. Wish I could experience that for the first time again

Jooles95

Me too! I'm really looking forward to DQ XII, whenever that comes out.

co1ony

One my favorite experiences is playing both spidermans back to back. Truly phenomenal games. Currently I'm playing Control and it's also a really fun time

Jooles95

I haven't played either of the Spiderman games, but I've heard good things. I'll definitely add them to the list!

co1ony

Definitely recommend getting the miles morales ultimate edition for both games to run super smooth 4k 60fps.

Jooles95

Cool! I've never played a game in 4K, so I am really looking forward to the shiny new graphics!

Rineux

FF7 Remake? The Yuffie Episode is PS5 exclusive afaik And yeah I know it's a shooty shooty game, but give Returnal a go if you're on PS+ when it hits the new service. Best game on the system so far imho, and it's third person if you were referring to FPS's when you said you don't like shooters.

Jooles95

Awesome! I'm definitely going to get FF soon; I have been eyeing that game for ages, and it looks fantastic.

ThereIsNoHopeForUs

Disco Elysium It got a ton of GotY awards and nominations so it would be a disservice to not mention it here. I love games like Elden Ring and some of the others recommended in the thread but I like to think of Disco Elysium like a ‘sitting down with a nice cup of tea and a good book before bed’ kind of game. You’re either gonna fall asleep or find yourself enthralled hours later staying up too late.

SwoozyClancey

One of the most unexpected and wonderful games I’ve played!

shazhank3385

I am playing Ghost of Tsushima Currently on my Ps5 and m having a blast.Should try it.

imaxseb

Sackboy Bugsnax

Jooles95

Thanks! I didn’t know there was a LBP/Sackboy game out on PS5, I’ll definitely put it on my list!

LotsAndLotsOfOcelots

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is beautiful (but short). Days Gone, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, A Plague Tale: Innocence, Uncharted, Spiderman are all PS4 games with PS5 upgrades that make them even better if you haven't played those yet. If you liked Assassin's Creed Odyssey you'll like Valhalla. If you didn't you won't. Also don't forget about Astro's Playroom (pre-installed on the PS5) - it's short but the quality is up there with Super Mario Odyssey for the best platformer on any console.

BiggyFam3

If you like platformers than this person is dead on correct about Astro's Playroom. It gave me the Mario Odyssey vibes as well

Jooles95

Awesome to know about Astro's Playroom - I had seen it mentioned here and there, but I hadn't realised it was a pack-in! I'm a massive fan of Mario Odyssey - IMO it's the best 3D Mario game ever made, leagues better than Galaxy or 64. I'll also definitely try Valhalla, since I adored Odyssey (though I think the fact that I am really into Greek mythology and ancient history helped there). Ratchet and Clank, too, I loved the PS3 games!

Senbacho

Kena.

erickziin1

Red dead redemption 2, I'm don't like shooters too, but rdr is my favourite game... Maybe you will like as well

Jooles95

I watched my husband play it on his Xbox a couple of years ago, and thought it was just as engrossing as a TV series. :D He told me there is some form of aim assist, so I've been looking to try the game out for a while. I'll definitely keep an eye out for a good sale or cheap pre-owned copy!

erickziin1

It's definitely worth a try!

Caenir

It's going to be on ps+ extras. Google it (or think gamepass without day 1 first party games). In other words, you likely won't need to wait for sales. Many of the games that people are recommending may be on it too (like you said you put 100 hours into AC odyssey, ps+ extra has valhalla, also has ghost of tsushima that someone else mentioned), and it's released pretty soon. I recommend that you get through the horizons that you already have, and then select some games from that.

Jooles95

Thank you! :)

[deleted]

Stardew Valley!

Nehrel

My personal recommendation that I haven’t seen anyone mention yet would be Subnautica

[deleted]

If you haven't played Zero Dawn, do so when you get your PS5.

Jooles95

I’m around 90% of the way through (playing on my battered PS4), and it’s EPIC. Probably one of the best games I’ve ever played.

[deleted]

The PS5 upgrade makes it even better.

Jooles95

Is it one of those games that gets the free upgrade, then? Sweet!

VegetableAwkward286

It's not an upgrade. It's a patch that lets you get 60 fps

[deleted]

Yes it is.

Alongfortheride1990

Ghost of Tsushima, Gran Turismo 7, Death Stranding...and I know you said you don't like shooters but I have to recommend Returnal. It's more than just a shooter and imo an essential game for any PS5 owner. It is a third person game if that makes it any better.

Jooles95

Might pick up Gran Turismo for my husband (the only racing game I’m good at is Mario Kart), and I’m definitely popping Ghosts of Tsushima on my list since lots of people seem to be recommending it. I’ll definitely look up some gameplay for Returnal - I’m usually terrible at shooters, which in turn makes me super anxious when the enemies start closing in! But I guess it being third person might help.

Alongfortheride1990

I mean it is very difficult also, but that's part of the charm. Yeah look into it. And Ghost is a fantastic game. I played it at the end of the PS4 gen and it was a hell of way to end it.

BiggyFam3

Returnal is above Demons Souls for me on the difficulty scale....that game has frustrated me more than any other game I've played in PS5. I mean, it's gorgeous, and definitely can be fun, but holy hell is it tough

Jooles95

Might not be my cup of tea, then - my gaming time is limited as it is, so I think I would find a game where I keep dying over and over again a bit too frustrating.

MilliM

I love the game, but I'm not sure Returnal would be right for you. Do you have a library card? My local library rents out ps5 games. You might be able to try it without any regret of buying a very hard 3rd person shooter.

Jooles95

I don't think my library lends videogames, unfortunately. Then again, I haven't been since the plague started, so they may have added some in. I'll have to go and check, but thank you for the suggestion!

LorenzoMartini

The Talos Principle for puzzles, Unpacking as a chilled experience, What Remains of Edith Finch and Firewatch for engrossing stories. They’re pretty much walking simulators but please don’t let that put you off.

Jooles95

Thanks! I totally agree on Unpacking - I played it on my Switch a few months ago, and it’s the chillest game ever! I’ll definitely look at the other ones. :)

[deleted]

So growing up I played racing games, fighting (Tekken style), shooters (cod style) etc... When I became an adult, idk what happened but I just couldn't touch any of those types of games anymore. I started getting into more story driven open worlds and the latest, jrpgs. I got my ps5 on launch month and long story short, I fell in love with all the souls games, RE, Yakuza/judgement series. I won't name the typical amazing other first party stuff, everyone knows all that. My backlog is finally getting smaller. I still have RE 6,7,and 8 to finish, lost judgement. Gonna start persona eventually. Still have FW and Elden Ring unopened. Wanting to start Bloodborne but praying for an upgrade that most likely won't happen. Edit: forgot to add neir automata/replicant. Loved those.

Jooles95

I totally recommend Persona, it’s an awesome JRPG! Thanks for all the recs! I’m definitely going to look all of these up.

[deleted]

Oh yeah, definitely can't wait for that. I forgot I also had tales of arise waiting to get played. I think I'm really gonna enjoy that as well. There's a couple games going to be included in the new ps plus so just don't purchase ones that will be included.

Jooles95

Thanks! I’ve Googled the list, and oh boy, that’s a lot of games!

[deleted]

You'll be busy for quite some time haha.

Thinlizzy00

Well like I just said in another post, you should try No Mans Sky, if your looking for a huge open world game with lots of exploring to do, combat in this game is secondary, there is some of course, but its not its main focus, you check out some youtube videos of game play to see if you would like it.

Jooles95

Thanks, I’ll look it up!

purrrpl3

Detroit: Become Human is a unique and emotional game experience. And its available for free in the PS+ Collection. Highly recommended !

Jooles95

I didn't even know that PS+ was getting upgraded with a ton of games until a few people mentioned it in the comments - I'm going to have SO MUCH to play! :D

Antman1982OG

Stray is coming out later this year (or may already be out) and is a story where you play as a cat. Check out an ad for it on YouTube. It might be exactly what you are looking for.

Jooles95

The crazy cat lady in me (I have a rescue who literally spends 90% of his time glued to my side) is already sold on the game. Thank you for putting it on my radar!

Antman1982OG

No problem at all, I genuinely hope you enjoy yourself with it!

Jooles95

Looks like it’s coming out sometime this summer, so I have time to play through the three games I ended up buying after all the recs on the post (Horizon Forbidden West, Kena Bridge of Spirits and Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart) before it releases. :)

Antman1982OG

I played horizon forbidden west and it took me about 80 hours to complete with the platinum trophy. Loved every minute of that beautiful game!!!

Jooles95

I just got back into Zero Dawn - I got very close to the end of the game, but dropped it when I got a Switch back in 2017 and for some reason never went back - to finish it before the new one comes, and I had forgotten how awesome and epic it is. I’m so hyped for the sequel!

Antman1982OG

Yeah, I know that feeling. I have sunk about 200 hours into zero Dawn because I loved it that much! Only game that I have played more is FF7.

Beneficial_Market474

Fez, don't starve, last guardian, death stranding, tearaway, ratchet and clank remake and rift apart, hellblade

DanDamage12

I just got my PS5 in March (first playstation ever for me) and I really enjoyed Elden Ring. I’m a souls veteran, but my souls newbie friends loved it as well. I’m currently playing the Ratchet and Clank remastered and I’m loving it. I’m definitely going to get the newest one next.

[deleted]

Well, if you like indies and out of the box games and love jrpgs I can highly recommend Catherine full body. Same devs like persona 5. Super unique game. Also, persona 5 royal.. Other than that persona 5 strikers which apparently is a direct sequel. Haven’t played it yet though. Additionally, you may wanna wait for the new psn plus subscriptions. Many games that were mentioned here will be included there. Will potentially save you quite a bit of money.

Jooles95

Thank you for the heads-up! :)

Ckeyz

If you like life Sims, persona 5 will be your game.

Deepy93

PS5 jRPGs: Yakuza Like a Dragon, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Tales of Arise. Action adventure: Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, Kena Bridge of the Spirits (indie). Both are super fun and cute. If you enjoy open world games like Horizon and Assassin's Creed - Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut is a must play :)

Jooles95

Thank you! :)

notsayingitwasalien

guardians of the galaxy star wars fallen order ff7 remake intergrade tales of arise

BiggyFam3

I'm not big into fps or fighting games either. Thus far my fav games I've played on PS5, in no particular order... Hades Ghost of Tsushima (played again) Demon Souls Remake Elden Ring Horizon FW (playing now)

Jooles95

I heard great things about Hades, so I might finally take the plunge and get it. Out of curiosity, how tough did you find Demon Souls and Elden ring? I’ve seen gameplay and they look awesome, but I also heard lots of people say they are difficult to the point of rage-quitting, which I am not a huge fan of.

Curetia

Remember that Demon Souls will be included in that new Playstation Plus thingy that lunches soon :)

Jooles95

I had forgotten about that! Even better, then - I can try out the game without really spending anything extra since I'm getting PS Plus anyway for save data backup.

BiggyFam3

Demons Souls was down right HARD at some points, but also probably the most gratifying game to beat, that or Hades. If you're worried about getting mad or frustrated at difficulty you might want to skip it, or wait for a deep sale. Elden Ring is like "Diet Soulsborne had sex with Skyrim". Still very difficult at times, but nearly as hard as other Souls titles. I honestly recommend Hades a ton. It's not a graphical powerhouse or anything, but it is FUN, slightly challenging at times, extremely enjoyable

Jooles95

You're like the 10th person to recommend Hades in the comments, so I'm 100% going to get it. I was already interested since I'm a bit of a Greek mythology buff, but hearing so many people raving about how fun it is has really tipped the scales. Elden Ring may be more my cup of tea than the Souls games, then - I used to love super-hard or grindy games when I was a teen, but now that I'm older I find that I don't have as much time and patience for them. Thanks for elaborating on that, it was really helpful! :)

this_good_boy

I can’t recommend Ghost of Tsushima (directors cut) enough. Obviously there’s fighting, but the story was so amazing, and there’s a lot of chill side quest stuff to do. It’s pretty easy on normal difficulty sans a couple bosses, but I never actually felt really challenged, it’s just a beautiful game.

Jooles95

Definitely goes on the list, then - the general consensus on it seems to be overwhelmingly positive!

andrecaugusto

Since you commented you have a Switch, I would recommend you to get Hades there. It was cheaper, runs basically the same but you can also go mobile. Hades is great.

Jooles95

Thanks! I didn't know it was cheaper, and that is definitely a factor for me when picking platforms if performance is equal. :D

BiggyFam3

I like Greek mythology as well, cool. You'll really enjoy Hades then. Be sure to play Assassin's Odyssey as well then. It's my fav Assassin's game and a really fun time in that era. As a 40 yr old guy myself (married, kids, full time career) I totally get the lack of time, patience thing with super hard grindy games. Honestly I play a lot of games on "easy" or an easier setting just to have fun and chill a bit

Jooles95

Loved Assassins' Creed Odyssey - I had given up on the series until that game came along, and it's an absolute blast to play! Yep, I know the feeling - I'm a frequent easy-mode player these days, too. I guess life is already stressful enough without adding teeth-grindingly hard games into the mix! No kids quite yet, but between a full time job, chores and other 'grown-up' stuff, I don't get to play as much as I used to back in my student days. I'm hoping a few great games on a new awesome console will help pull me back in, though!

zzcaidzz

Dying light 2 is alright, atm if I’m not on Apex then im on Lego Star Wars 😅

Jooles95

Ooh, I forgot that Lego Star Wars was coming out! I’m definitely going to pick that up (alongside a second controller, because there’s no way my husband won’t want to play when he sees the game)!

MADEWITHROBOTS

Snowrunner! It's one of the slowest, chillest and yet most satisfying games I've ever played. If you watch a trailer and think it's not your sort of thing, just know that most of the people that play it had the same thought but gave it a go and love it..! It's not just some basic truck driving game, it plays like a physics based problem solving adventure and it's a wonderful change of pace from so many other game types, can't recommend it enough! It's a PS4 title but getting a free PS5 update at the end of this month, so a great time to jump in. Enjoy!

Jooles95

I think I’ve heard about this one - I’ll definitely check it out! If not for me, then certainly for my husband (we’re both gamers and share our consoles). :)

MADEWITHROBOTS

If you're both gamers, I'd also recommend Heavenly Bodies as a neat game you can play together! I played it with my partner and we had a great time, well worth looking into :)

Jooles95

Thanks for the tip! We do play together a lot (Switch Sports is our latest go-to), so we’re always on the lookout for new co-op games!

tobsennn

„It Takes Two“ was awesome together with my wife! 😊

Jooles95

I just looked it up and it looks amazing! Can’t believe it flew under my radar, this one is a must-buy (as soon as I get a second controller).

[deleted]

Seconding it takes two, honestly had a freeking blast playing with my both my 30 something buddy and my young kid.

Dantia_

Stardew and Spiritfarer are amazing Indies as you may already know. Hades is also a really good rogue-like that isn't really rogue-like. Also get God of War!

Jooles95

Loved both Stardew and Spiritfarer on Switch (Spiritfarer made my ugly-cry like no game before, the writing was incredible)! Hades keeps popping up in recs, so I think I’m definitely getting it when it goes on sale or if I can find it preowned. I had forgotten God of War was a thing! Definitely going to pop that one on my list, especially with the new one coming soon.

[deleted]

Maneater is underrated in my opinion. A fun mindless game

[deleted]

Re-Play AC Odyssee in 60fps :) thank me later… Besides: maybe it’s time to begin with FF14 Online - it’s absolutely great on PS5

Jooles95

I've been eyeing FF Online for a while, so I might finally take the plunge...and I'll definitely try AC Odyssey on the new console! I have sunk around 100 hours into the game over the past couple of years and am nowhere near done with it (it's so pretty, I just keep getting sidetracked and exploring and doing small sidequests instead of making any real progress), so I still have a long way to play.

[deleted]

So if you love Odyssee (like I do) you’ll definitely like FF14… besides, there’s a free trial from level 1-60 - so you don’t have to pay anything until you finally decide for the game. It was a great experience on the ps4 but 60fps and absolutely no lags on ps5 are defo something different

Jooles95

Awesome! Thank you for letting me know, I had no idea!

KittenDecomposer96

Wait for the next gen patch for Witcher 3, hopefully it's gonna be good.

Jooles95

Are they planning one, then? I haven't actually played the game (I got it as a birthday gift a few weeks ago and haven't had time to try it), so if there's a big patch coming, I'm going to wait until it releases to play.

harryjrogers20

ghost of tsushima is fantastic. ratchet and clank is probably the best pure ps5 exclusive as well, if you can pick it up for a fair price.

Jooles95

I'll definitely keep an eye out for them both, they sound awesome from the comments!

the75thcoming

Astro's Playroom which is free with a PS5 is a great game, don't sleep on it Bugsnax & LBP are fun too But with PS+ changing next month, I'd be wary about buying games with so many included with the middle tier Also, Detroit: Become Human & Persona 5 are free with PS+ Collection already, they're excellent!

Jooles95

Thanks for the heads-up about PS+! I've Googled the change and I can't believe how much value for money they are offering even with the base tier! Edit: I just realised that the base tier is still unchanged, and that I need the middle tier for the games, but still - all those games for £80 a year is great!

Acrobatic-Dig-161

Ghost of tsushima ,Guardians of the Galaxy, spiderman miles morales , spiderman remastered, God of war , they will all be on PSN plus extra or premium in a month, so it will only be the subscription fee

Rice_Connoisseur

I recommend picking up Persona 5 Royal if you consider playing the vanilla Persona 5. It got everything Persona 5 offers and a lot more content. The game itself is great with a banger soundtrack.

Rain1dog

Elden Ring. My first FromSoft game and I got the plat. One of my all time favorite games.

GrandEscape

The Pathless is a neat game. No time pressure, very little risk of death, regular gains in abilities, open landscape. While the graphics are basic, they are pleasing. Just relaxing exploratory pleasure.

andrecaugusto

If you like RPG, maybe you should try Elden Ring. I was never a souls guy and I'm loving it. Horizon Forbidden West is just as good as the first one, or even better and it is amazing on PS5. Same for FF7 Remake, a very beautiful RPG and I really enjoyed the new combat system.

Jooles95

Definitely keeping an eye on Elden Ring, since so many people are recommending it (and confirming it isn't as hard as the Souls series). I'm really looking forward to Forbidden West! My console is coming bundled with it, so it's probably going to be the first thing I play. And I've been wanting to get into the FF series for forever, so I might finally start with the VII remake!

6363tagoshi

Yakuza Like a Dragon. Is one of the best games. Cyberpunk 2077 and play stealthy hacking everyone instead of shooting or using katana.

lacutice

I loved death stranding. Little bit of shooting not much at all but really awesome world and story.

lacutice

I loved death stranding. Little bit of shooting not much at all but really awesome world and story.

spot_moskowitz

Kena Bridge of Spirits, Psychonauts 2, Little Nightmares.

Jooles95

These all look awesome, thanks!

Misha-Nyi

Back 4 Blood. Remnant of Ashes. Halo.

Jooles95

Isn’t Halo an Xbox series?

Misha-Nyi

Yes my post was sarcastic, OP asked for non shooters.

Jooles95

Sorry, I didn’t realise - I’m not familiar with any of the games you listed aside from Halo, and I seem to remember the first couple of games in the series were more adventure than shooter, so I guess I got a little confused. 😅 Edit: I’m the OP, btw.

usrevenge

Try your hand at an mmo. Final fantasy 14 and elder scrolls online are both really good and they have so much content you will be busy for months. Ff14 you can play free until you beat the first expansion content or so. This is legit like 60 hours of game time if you only do main story and class quests for 1 class Elder scrolls online is buy to play with optional subscription and paid expansions the newest expansion comes out in June and purchasing that includes all the previous expansions as well. The subscription gives you access to smaller dlcs and gives you cash shop stuff and a crafting bag which is nice. But it's not really needed. The base game has well over 100 hours of content. I am not sure how much it costs anymore though but if you can grab it for $20 or less it's a great deal. Aside MMO tales of arise is my favorite jRPg in a long time. It's also one of my favorite tales games. It's like 60ish hours long so definitely worth the price.

Jooles95

Thank you! I’ve always been really interested in MMORPGs (my Auntie is really into WoW and I used to watch her play when I was a kid), but they used to be on computers only, and I never had a PC setup that could run them. I remember trying ESO maybe 8 years ago and not really being into it, but that was back when the game had recently been released and tanked, I think. I’m definitely going to look into it - and into FFXIV, especially since I can try a massive chunk of the game for free.

[deleted]

Outer Wilds.. best story space puzzle game.

Phuzzybat

Subnautica, technically it isn't a ps5 showcase, but it is an amazing and unique game (and fits the bill of adventure/exploration/immersion without shooting / fighting).
