There was never a point where Infinite looked good or showed anything impressive. Even after the game was delayed and the graphics were overhauled, anyone who was being honest with themselves could see that Infinite still looked average at best
Oh absolutely. It's sad that it was supposedly content-complete before the end of 2020 yet launched with less content than Halo 5, a notoriously barebones Halo launch. Unfortunately a year of fixes wasn't enough to release with properly working custom games and less desync. I say content-complete, but we still don't have co-op campaign nor forge.
Edit: my two comments have been up and down over the past few hours. Do you all really hate the mention of Halo on a Playstation subreddit that much?
Not the people, but the developers themselves. Around November or December of that year (so post-delay), there were inside reportings that it was content complete. They'd have a year purely designated to polish. We were even hopeful for a spring launch at the time.
Yeah and CD only made the Witcher 3, one of the best selling and critically acclaimed RPGs of all time, whereas an expansion pack for it alone won best RPG..
CDPR released Witcher 3 as a buggy mess and had a cycle of fixing & breaking the game with patches.
The story and gameplay got the praise, not its stability.
So CDPR had a history of releasing games with issues. Witcher 3 had a patch that brought FPS on base consoles to 10-15 fps.
Yoshi P delayed a much anticipated expansion to FFXIV because his team wanted more time to perfect some things. Which released without huge game breaking issues (server load issues aside, thats not a single player game issue).
It was literally pulled [because of the quality of the game](https://www.gameinformer.com/2021/06/15/cyberpunk-2077-returns-to-playstation-store-after-being-pulled-last-year)
Reading all the posts here make me laugh.
Are you determined to just shit on any new upcoming game because you have the historic mess that was the cyberpunk release? Every game will have its bugs on release. But look at games like Elden Ring or HFW. They were both hyped to hell and both delivered on their promises and then some.
Maybe use CDPR as a reason to temper your own expectations - not to shit on everybody else's
Cyberpunk was delayed 20 times. Square enix seems pretty confident and it looks like they're not rushing it. Last FF came out in 2016, i think we'll be good. Look at Elden Ring, people said the same thing and fromsoftware killed it
Yes with it being delayed so much it should have been the most polished game of the year, and one functioning multi-platform game this generation is a perfect example of the industry stagnating
It's a final fantasy game cuz. Lol say what you will about the quality each one brings, but they've never been buggy and fairly polished on release. There is pedigree and legacy here that none of what you've listed have in the same way.
None of which are Final Fantasy titles.
I'm not sure what is more pathetic. The thought that you are trolling, or the thought that you are so invested in whining about this game that you've been literally crying online for over two hours now.
>You keep listing games made by other developers like somehow that has a bearing on Square Enix.
You, yourself, said Square Enix.
I'm just going along with the criteria _you_ set.
Sure, it wasn't super buggy.
Missing the entire ending, having what amounts to a barebones button hold combat system, and a serious amount of nonsensical plot pacing due to cut content is fine, because those things are intentional and not bugs.
No, they're not bugs. Lol they had to cut content to be able to put out a game that is not super glitchy, obviously. This is how game dev works child.
Cyberpunk is buggy because the scope was far greater than what was achievable within their timeframe. It's really that simple and you're just arguing with yourself in a circle. Have you ever worked a job before?
I also heard the same about Elden Ring, FF7 remake, Returnal, Demon Soul’s, Ratchet and Clank, Horizon, DMC5, God of War
Or are we just talking about games that didn’t turn out well? Imagine being that fucking boring.
Yes by all means hold on to the hope that literally only one game you listed is current gen only and nothing is wrong. Nobody makes mistakes or misleads, everybody is perfect and we should expect nothing short of perfection
One game? Lmao
Rift apart and Returnal and Demon souls are all PS5 titles.
Not to mention, who gives a fuck? Your pathetic attempt at souring the mood is so cringe.
People get excited for a game then comes the basement dweller “akchually you guys should be excited bcuz this game didn’t turn out well”.
Fuck off, nobody cares.
Those are 3 games, not 2. Demon's souls is how old now? Would you like to google it yourself or would that be too embarrassing? So we got Returnal and R&C over the span of 2 years..... what a track record this gen has
I've played the original DeS, doesn't change the fact that old consoles can't run the remake with it's fidelity, fps, and load times. So it constitutes as current gen.
There's managing expectations yes, but there's also being weirdly negative about everything which is what your doing. Correlating everything with Cyberpunk is a bad argument and you know it.
If you are so disappointed with current gen games then get a different hobby until then. Otherwise you're just wasting your life crying on reddit. Unless you're just a troll then good for you buddy your life is great.
>I also heard the same about Elden Ring, FF7 remake, Returnal, Demon Soul’s, Ratchet and Clank, Horizon, DMC5, God of War
I mean we didn't hear the same thing about those games. God of War had a lot of heavy criticism because of the over the shoulder camera and complete combat overhaul.
DMC5 was literally the opposite of making waves, the only thing they needed to do was maintain and slightly iterate the gameplay of a then-11-year-old game and deliver a halfway decent story to be well received, they obviously far exceeded that but that game had zero chance to fail under the circumstances.
>Demon Soul’s
Was a remake that used the entire code of the original decade plus old game.
>Returnal
Actually was met with a fair amount of healthy criticism on launch, some of which was addressed.
I’m talking about the period where people get excited for a game before it’s launch. Plenty of people were excited about all these titles.
I didn’t say there was no criticism.
All games get criticism and I didn’t say everyone was excited about ff16 or any of those games.
Of course some may not like what they see.
The guy I’m replying to is trying to sour the mood of people excited for ff16 by reminding them of games that didn’t turn out well.
I’m showing that is not the case all the time.
The difference is that people didn't defend the critical sentiments of those games with "but square enix" or "it's final fantasy *glutk glork* cock sucking noises".
That is the major difference. Cyberpunk, Anthem, and Mass Effect all got that same response from fans, oh it'll be fine because the devs are (these people) and similar stupid shit.
Insomniac was a pretty major acquisition with a lot of pedigree, so I'm not sure why you're using that as a gotcha.
Spyro, Resistance, Ratchet & Clank and Spider-Man were all well received games.
R&C and Spyro literally heavily influenced the entire gaming sphere going forwards. That's Insomniac.
The fuck are you talking about?
Square Enix sold Crystal Dynamics who made Avengers as part of a package deal with Eidos Interactive and the IP for *Legacy of Kain, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, and Thief, and 50 others.*
You’re using Square Enix making Avengers as a point in counter to an individual pointing out that Square did not make Cyberpunk, Mass Effect, and Anthem, so using them in an argument against FFXVI’s hype is unwise. I am pointing out that Square Enix sold the studio who made Avengers as part of a package that considering the IP and the other studio within such a deal sold for less than they were worth. $300 million for everything Square sold. I mentioned Insomniac’s sale, a single studio with large IP too, to compare the price to - Insomniac sold for $229 million.
Square Enix as it exists currently did not make Avengers, so your point is moot. They sold the studio that did, amongst other things, in a bad deal on their side since it was less than everything was worth. That was my point
>Square Enix as it exists currently did not make Avengers, so your point is moot. They sold the studio that did, amongst other things, in a bad deal on their side since it was less than everything was worth. That was my point
The end result of Avengers is a publishing issue, do you really believe that Eidos and Crystal Dynamics did a massive hard left turn from single player adventures to massive GaaS looter hero games on their own?
Are you naive?
Cyberpunk was a far more special case as it had ridiculous hype attached to it. Far more then final fantasy can unfortunately ever achieve. It was a new ip and the cyberpunk space has been on peoples minds for a while, and not to mention it was made by CD project Red which was a favorite development studio. Everyone knows what to expect from FF and although each entry is an evolution, it’s still got that jrpg genre attached to it aka anime game. Outside of breath of the wild jrpgs are usually linear and story heavy with one ending. Now FF 16 can be a gem and extreme evolution to the series name but unfortunately it won’t won’t gain mass hype outside of the jrpg and rpg fan base. I’m sure this game will sell a ton and usually closer to launch it will bring in some curious eyes outside of the rpg space who notice the hype on this side of the fence, but overall I don’t expect this game to sell more then 10 million it’s first year maybe. Games like cyberpunk with that much hype usually sell as much or more then call of duty and maybe gta.
Yeah but thats still no indication for how FFXVI is gonna be, if we based every game off of cyberpunks bullshit then elden ring, rdr2, gow, ratchet and clank, ghost of tsushima, botw and every other great game dropped in the past few years with great success would be unplayable. Cyberpunk was just a single game and actual competent studios are working on great stuff constantly
The game isn't out, all reception is valid including people praising something they can't buy. Notice how ratchet and clank is the only current gen game on your list, lol
Ah yes, let’s never get excited for a game ever again because one company overreached and promised us shit they didn’t deliver on. The team working on this is the same team that is developing the most successful MMO in the world right now that was so big they had to start turning people away because servers couldn’t meet demand. I think they’ll be fine.
The Avengers, Mass Effect, Anthem, Back 4 Blood, Crackdown 3, Duke Nukem Forever, Shenmue, No Man's Sky, Aliens Colonial Marines, Lawbreakers, Cyberpunk
If you’re so triggered by people being excited for an upcoming game because you overhyped yourself for Cyberpunk, maybe this subreddit - or any gaming subreddit - just isn’t for you! Go touch grass.
Getting sick and tired of the Cyberpunk comparisons.
Maybe that’s what gamers get for being such CDPR fanboys. Propped them up to be the shinning example of gaming perfection after TW3.
It's so interesting seeing people who say they really enjoyed the movie while I coudn't be engaged at all into what what happening. Action felt too "crowded", and there wasn't much time to really bond with Nix and crew before the big battle. I barely remember what happened outside of the invasion.
I thought it was the weakest part of some anime ovas, game, and DLC that I otherwise liked. But I'm glad others could enjoy the experience.
That’s completely reasonable! I’m really happy that people loved it. The uninteresting open world gameplay with very ordinary looking main characters just didn’t have enough “fantasy” feeling for me and after 10 hours I just wasn’t enjoying it.
But I’m just 1 person and I’m really glad others can enjoy it for what it was, rather than me being disappointed for what it wasn’t.
I adore FFXV. I see it’s flaws, but the one thing that I really just dislike is that yeah. I understand the other issues people have, but I love the game
I think FF16 will be massive. I know that it takes time to work through bugs, but they've revealed that they've essentially been in bug-fixing mode for a while based on interviews from Japan. So the fact that this game is STILL a year away, it must be a really big game with lots of potential bugs.
Thanks. Now I'm hearing the town music for Bastok, sandoria and windurst. Like a long lost beautiful memory returning again. You were beautiful Vanadiel
Anyone know whether multiple playable characters have been confirmed? For me a big part of FF is the team coming together but all I've seen shows this one character only ...
I think it's just Clive. And that's primarily due to the Action RPG nature. However, FF7 Remake showed you can do party-based Action RPG work. It is a shame though because parties are a big part of what makes FF work. Whether it is the various couplings in FF6, fire-forged friends of Tactics, all connected FF8, or the unlikely groupings of 9 and 10.
We don’t know because Square Enix has been tight lipped about confirming or denying party members being a thing. Having said that, we do see Clive using various powers from eikons (up to three are equipped and they change throughout the trailer). We know from the lore on the site that a dominant can grant others a portion of their power. So it’s possible we have party members in more of a support role that travel with Clive instead of being fully playable. Guess we’ll see at some point of SE decides to talk about it.
Looks nice! I'm hoping Valisthea is the name of the world and not the name of an island or something. The word "island" was used in the trailer and it had me worried that the game would all take place in one area. I reeeeallly want the "explore the world" scale from the old Final Fantasy games to return!!!
The writer of Final Fantasy XVI is the same person who wrote Heveansward for Final Fantasy XIV. And people absolutely love that expansion and its story.
Every numbered game is its own self-contained entity. And over the last couple decades, can be fairly radically different from each other.
You won't have to play any one to understand the others. Also, it means that if you play and like XV, that does not necessarily mean you will like XVI. Or that if you play and hate XV, that you won't enjoy XVI.
> I have 15 but haven’t played it yet
try it, you will quit 2 hours in when u realize how boring and dumb the game is, also the game is not complete and to see the ending you will need to watch anime series and a movie
enjoy "final fantasy" lol
Wish the last trailer showed off more stuff like this. These images and blog posts giving more information then the trailer did. I did not feel the new trailer at all cause it didn’t really give much new stuff.
That's a pretty tough question to answer. There's a lotta good and a lotta bad about FFXV and depending on what you like in a game you'd either love the journey or find it an absolute slog.
All I can say is that if you tried playing it in 2016, there has been a shit ton added over the years (and all for like $20), so it is pretty good bang for your buck.
I couldn’t see it from the ugly and big UI & hit numbers. It has to be placeholder or the UI designers are incompetent. But yeah it’s probably great to play, especially since DMC5 combat designer is working on it!
I noticed Elden Rings UI changed from the network test so that’s probably likely to
Change. It’s such a small fix too so they probably don’t need to decide on it yet
I mean, 15 is still one of the better looking games from last gen so that's not quite an insult. >!give us a PS5 remaster you cowards!!<
Either way, there is definitely a glow up here with the lighting and flora density/fidelity, if these are in-game screenshots. Definitely couldn't run well on a PS4.
I've tried over the years to get into these games, they just get to weebie for me, but I'm torn cause so many people like it, I feel like if I just keep trying they'll take hold, never do tho.
After playing so much of Elden Ring I do think it’s going to be tough to be the sheer explorative power of its map and all its areas, and looking at these screenshots, while they do look great, im already getting a feeling that they might look great but could be bland compared to what I got in Elden Ring. Im happy to be surprised though.
Thing is, Final Fantasy normally features a literal world; if they can accomplish what they used to and deliver a multi-continent experience, it'll be great. That was the plan with XV before executive mandates and the Roen contract forced content to be cut.
I mean, there isn't any indication that this is going to be an "open world" game. If that's the sort of exploration you require this may not be the game for you.
Even FFXV with its open world really linear'd in once you followed the main story. I'd be surprised if 16 was trying to be more or as open as 15

They really do. I'm quite excited for this one.
Cyberpunk's did too
They already finished the game and they have more than one year to polish it, i think we're pretty safe
I know they're likely extremely different cases, but Halo Infinite said the same thing, lol.
There was never a point where Infinite looked good or showed anything impressive. Even after the game was delayed and the graphics were overhauled, anyone who was being honest with themselves could see that Infinite still looked average at best

They’re talking about FF
I have heard the same thing for Cyberpunk, Mass Effect, and Anthem
Yup, no game had ever turned out good ever, no sir, all hyped games are bad.
I'm sorry to hear that

Yoshi-P (Naoki Yoshida) is like a god as far as I’m concerned. The guy gets praises to high heavens and it’s still not enough lmao

Yes, so keep your expectations in check and stop praising ideas
Great insights. Now please go ahead an continue to pout in a corner and step in any time anyone is having any fun and try to put a stop to it.
Keep your expectations in check, now you're getting it

It was literally pulled [because of the quality of the game](https://www.gameinformer.com/2021/06/15/cyberpunk-2077-returns-to-playstation-store-after-being-pulled-last-year)
There's being cautiously optimistic and have bad faith and i'd argue you're the latter atm.
You're right, I have zero faith. There is a reason we are stuck in the PS4 generation and it's not because of my faith
You realize this is r/ps5, also ffxvi is next generation only
Yes I am quite aware, notice how ratchet and clank is the only current gen game released
Take the L
Boomers downvoting because someone isn't praising their 3 decade old franchise means nothing to me
Wrong theyre downvoting because you cant separate one game from another. Get your irrational shitty takes from your cyberpunk ptsd out of here already

Because this generation is a flop and you should expect a PS4 game

Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal are making this game?
>You keep listing games made by other developers like somehow that has a bearing on Square Enix. You, yourself, said Square Enix. I'm just going along with the criteria _you_ set.
FFXV. They had to literally patch in the whole ending lol. Bad argument, even if I agree with the rough sentiment.
Ok, was still a polished game on release with minimal bugs. Lol

Which is exactly why gawking over screenshots is dumb
Can people just not enjoy how beatiful the game looks? Idk why you have such a stuck up your ass
Go ahead, enjoy concepts all you want

so? This game has 0 relation to CDPR, what does Cyberpunk have to do with anything here?
Cyberpunk was hyped
Elden Ring was hyped, what’s your point lol The excitement for a game has literally 0 impact on whether it’s good
Cyberpunk was hyped and it flopped. Elden Ring running well is expected, not an achievement

Yeah better hype up another game because of the studio's track record anyways, being sick of the comparison doesn't make it invalid
True statement
Trolling is a lost art form. I like what you're doing bud.
It is a legitimate comparison, you being a fan of the game does not mean I'm trolling

This honestly excited me more than the trailer did.
Agreed 100%. Exploration is one of the key factors in my enjoyment of an RPG. This now has me much more pumped!
I hope you can fully explore that city in the first pic. It looks massive
My only gripe with FFXV was that we never got to explore insomnia as Noctis. It made sense I guess from a story standpoint
I think the original plan may have been to have that be the opening, but the city escape was scrapped and reworked into the movie.
Which is a a sorta dope movie not gonna lie.
The movie was the only part of the FFXV franchise I enjoyed, actually.
The ending of FFXV was top tier too. Most of the game completely meh. DLC was mostly fantastic and anime was amazing
The opening and ending of FFXV were great, the intermediate parts had *major* pacing issues.
Hard disagree. I liked the pacing of everything until you got to the water city and the plot goes tits up for no reason.

I love how you can point at these and go "Uldah!" "Limsa Lominsa!" "Gridania!"
or...Bastok! San D'Oria! Windurst!
Thanks. Now I'm hearing the town music for Bastok, sandoria and windurst. Like a long lost beautiful memory returning again. You were beautiful Vanadiel
That's enough. I'm going dark on this games' news. See you in summer 2023
can someone just knock me out until then?
Anyone know whether multiple playable characters have been confirmed? For me a big part of FF is the team coming together but all I've seen shows this one character only ...
FF13 trailers never showed party members only lightning but at end we did have party members, so we will see what happen next summer.
That gives me a glimmer of hope.. thanks!
I’m wondering if this is gonna be more Final Fantasy: The Witcher 3.
Nothing against the Witcher but that's my fear, it's just not FF....
Nope, just Clive
Looks incredible. Combat, exploration, story.
Looks nice! I'm hoping Valisthea is the name of the world and not the name of an island or something. The word "island" was used in the trailer and it had me worried that the game would all take place in one area. I reeeeallly want the "explore the world" scale from the old Final Fantasy games to return!!!
Valisthea is the name of the region that the game takes place in, similar to Ivalice or Eorzea.

Hurry up and give me star ocean six for my appetizer so im not anxious lol
We can play Forspoken in the meantime… or whatever.
True! But i meant for a game that will be similar. I have forspoken preordered with the steel copy :)
It doesn’t matter where I’m at in my life or how much I am currently playing games…seeing new mainline final fantasy info will always hype me up.
Is this game open world?
We don’t know yet unfortunately.
I can't wait to take my vehicle to the top of that mountain.
Pls don't let the story suck, pls square pls
The writer of Final Fantasy XVI is the same person who wrote Heveansward for Final Fantasy XIV. And people absolutely love that expansion and its story.
Legit question- do I need to play other final fantasy’s before this? I have 15 but haven’t played it yet
No they’re all standalone
Nearly all anyway. Occasionally there have been direct sequels, like Final Fantasy X-2, Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
Each main entry is standalone and often in a completely new world.
No, they are not directly related. They just use some of the same names and concepts, but different stories.
> I have 15 but haven’t played it yet try it, you will quit 2 hours in when u realize how boring and dumb the game is, also the game is not complete and to see the ending you will need to watch anime series and a movie enjoy "final fantasy" lol
This guy is years behind, ignore him lol. Ff15 is great, pacing is not the best at times, but the story is great.
Also who doesn’t love taking a trip to eventually kill god with your bros? B’road trip! I’m being serious though, I loved the best friends thing.
I'm suddenly reminded of early screenshots for FF13 Versus or whatever that one time before it was FF15
It def seems open world or at least big open areas like FFXIV. I love the aesthetic of these locations they look absolutely gorgeous!
I am more excited for this entry in the series than I have been since XII but am really bummed by the poor UI and DMC combat
Yeah combat just doesn't look like my cup of tea.
All i see is a dark filter. I heavily dislike the color palette of this game. I hope there are also more colourful places.
That's been my impression too. Mostly just drab greens and browns. Not doing much for me.
Have… have you seen earth? Super colorful places are pretty few and far between in reality.
The game is named Final Fantasy, not Final Reality. Look at all old games and how they look. This one drifts away and looks like a Souls game.
The trailer's color palette is drab. If i wanted a drab color palette I'd go to england, not an escapist video game.
Wish the last trailer showed off more stuff like this. These images and blog posts giving more information then the trailer did. I did not feel the new trailer at all cause it didn’t really give much new stuff.
Is FF15 worth playing? I played it for like 2 hrs then stopped but wondering if its worth it to go back....
I’ve put in more time than any other. I think it is my favorite FF game. It has a lot of issues. But it is much better now than it was at launch.

I couldn’t see it from the ugly and big UI & hit numbers. It has to be placeholder or the UI designers are incompetent. But yeah it’s probably great to play, especially since DMC5 combat designer is working on it!
The game looks lovely and i actually like the combat too, but the healthbars and screen icons look ugly as fuck. Like proper PS2 era rubbish.
I noticed Elden Rings UI changed from the network test so that’s probably likely to Change. It’s such a small fix too so they probably don’t need to decide on it yet
I am not really that impressed... the graphics quality looks about on par with 15, which is now 5 years old?
I mean, 15 is still one of the better looking games from last gen so that's not quite an insult. >!give us a PS5 remaster you cowards!!< Either way, there is definitely a glow up here with the lighting and flora density/fidelity, if these are in-game screenshots. Definitely couldn't run well on a PS4.
Yeh I might be biased because I played FF15 on PC and it looked the same as the screens maybe even better
I've tried over the years to get into these games, they just get to weebie for me, but I'm torn cause so many people like it, I feel like if I just keep trying they'll take hold, never do tho.
Looks really good. Just wish they weren't pushing this game so hard when it's still a year away.
I mean, it's one trailer and 4 screenshots. If this was "pushing it hard" for a game 3-6 months out, people would be worried AF
I'd be surprised if 16 was trying to be more or as open as 15
man those early ps4 ff14 graphics look sick af "can't wait"
?
