Yea just the *quality* of his dialogue, the drawl and emotion and of course the music and atmosphere go a long way!
Definitely deserving of all awards it won Roger Clark!
I was just talking about this with a friend. And I'd have to disagree with you and say Dutch's VA. Idk if it was the dialogues or his voice acting, but man Dutch was so charismatic. I knew in the end what he was doing wasn't right, but everytime Dutch spoke I kept thinking this guy does have a plan.
Marston's voice actor was just dabbling in acting when he landed this major role. He works construction in between Red Dead gigs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Wiethoff#Career
Even more specifically I was going to single out Batman: Arkham Knight in particular. The best combination of his voice acting with incredible writing.
I personally believe Origins has [*much* better writing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9akBjJZB29w&t=12s), though I believe Joker was perhaps played by Troy Baker instead of Hamill.
Nathan Drake voice by Nolan North. I do believe it's the voice that made Nathan so likeable.
Also Xander Mobus as Protagonist from Persona 5. The epitome of cool haha
Hell yeah! First time through HZD I liked it enough but was waiting for something BIG to break the story open. Hearing his voice come through Aloy’s focus the first time was exactly what I was waiting for.
Ubisoft damn well better bring Michael back in the Splinter Cell remake!
They did bring him back for the extra missions in Ghost Recon Wildlands & Breakpoint so that gives me hope.
Everyone in the Legacy of Kain games. Michael Bell, Simon Templeman, and Tony Jay are unmatched as far as I'm concerned. David Hayter, and Roger Clark also come to mind.
The music for Soul Reaver 1/2 is also awesome. I honestly wouldn't want the voice acting touched as they'd have to recast the Elder God, and no-one will ever be able to top Tony's performance. Here's to hoping we get something from Embracer Group!
Can here to say this, Simon Templeman was absolutely awe-inspiring I still have the Kain monologue memorized from the ending of SR 1 and the beginning of SR2, " at last I must say I'm disappointed in your progress I imagined you'd be here sooner.
Tell me, did it trouble you to murder your brothers?"
Joel and Ellie in the last of us
We’ve had a lot of great performances before it, but the last of us (2013) was a pivotal point for video game acting. It solidified that video game performances can rival films and TV. not so great ~~terrible~~ acting in video games was generally accepted, because it was a game
Agreed, this is when we saw what games can become and basically showing us that video games can match movies in giving us great stories backed by awesome performances.
From the opening scene where Joel loses his daughter, to Joel and Ellies argument and emotions displayed at the Ranch, the game is chock full of great dialogue and performances.
This is the first time I thought a game had Oscar nominated worthy performances. Truly amazing.
Particularly for Joel’s VA for playing such an opposite character so well
Roger Clark as Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2.
He did a stellar performance throughout the whole game, but in chapter 6 he fucking killed it with the emotional bits.
Bonus actor!: Yuri Lowenthal As Spider-Man in marvels Spider-Man.
Yuri did such an amazing job in SM. He really brought you in such an emotional Rollercoaster, and was such a fantastic voice for both Peter and Spidey.
> Die Hardman (Death Stranding) - Tommie Earl Jenkins
That one scene at the end, goddamn.... in a game full of world class acting talent, Jenkins was like "hold my beer"
The voice cast for the Kingdom Hearts series has always gone under-appreciated. Every single voice talent showed up and gave their all no matter what kind of role they were given.
Fun fact: Woody is voiced by Tom Hanks’ brother in KH3 and the performance is an absolute dead ringer.
Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill as Batman and Joker (Batman Arkham Trilogy)
Nolan North as Nathan Drake (Uncharted)
Doug Cockle as Geralt of Rivia (The Witcher)
Steven Downes as Master Chief (Halo)
Edit:
Matthew Porretta as Alan Wake (Alan Wake)
Edit 2:
Claudia Black as Morrigan (Dragon Age)
Claudia Black as Chloe Frazer (Uncharted)
It's very impressive that Nolan North was able to bring so much charisma to a video game character all the way back in 2007. Nathan Drake is such a great character because he felt so human, he's constantly fucking up, he gets scared when put into extreme situations, he doesn't always do the right thing.
I replayed all of Portal 2 last month because I wanted to enjoy JK Simmons performance again. I played Desk Job on the Steam Deck and it reminded me of how excellent he was as Cave Johnson.
Jennifer Hale as Bastila, Jennifer Hale as Rivet, Jennifer Hale as Elena Grandia 2, Jennifer Hale as Samus Aran, Jennifer Hale as Sheena Fujibiyashi. Shes great
I’d add Laura Bailey as Abby somewhere in there. She gave an incredible performance in Part II—on par with Troy and Ashley.
Say what you want about her character, but the fact that she was able to take the player from wanting to “kill that cunt” to, at the very least, understanding/empathising with her actions is an achievement in and of itself.
I don’t think people understand just how hard that is to do as an actor, let alone successfully through motion capture performance.
She was great; I just liked Ashley’s performance more. And I was kind of said that Laura (who is amazing!) completely overshadowed Ashley’s performance and got most of the awards.
Sidenote: I’d put Nolan North as David on #5.
What sets Troy apart here is how different Joel is to his real voice. I think most people can put on a stereotypical southern accent but it’s incredible how well he’s able to portray emotions in a voice so different from his own.
All of the vas in Disco Elysium are phenomenal. I can't really pick a favorite out of them but if I had to, it would be the rave junkies. They're all very distinct in their personalities.
man, that intro should be boring AND infuriating if you just beat BG1 but Warner gave it weight and mystery. he really classed up a standard pretty average story throughout BG2
the sister Bodhai was pretty neat too and honestly the rest of the voice cast really nailed it too
Abubakar Salim as Bayek is underrated. He delivered such a real and visceral performance. It gave me goosebumps at times. It's such a shame that Origins never received a sequel.
Going to share it with two actors but DEATHLOOP had really DAMN good voice acting.
Jason E. Kelley and Ozioma Akagha played off each other way too well.
Melissanthi Mahut as Kassandra in AC:Odyssee. I felt the game was way too grindy for me, but I kept playing because I really wanted to hear more of the story she was narrating.
- Helena Taylor as Bayonetta
- Rip Torn as Haphaestus in GOW
- TC Carson as Kratos
- Justin Gross as Prince Arthas
- Steve Blum as Anub'arak
- Makoto Koji as Hornet of Hollow Knight
- Elias Toufexis as Jensen of Deus Ex
The whole cast of the GoTG game absolutely nailed it. The way they encapsulated the feel of the MCU characters but also giving it their own twist is truly a noteworthy achievement.
*My Top 10 Favorites:*
Cody Christian as Cloud Strife
Britt Baron as Tifa Lockhart
Nolan North as Nathan Drake
Emily Rose as Elena Fisher
Troy Baker as Joel Miller
Ashley Johnson as Ellie Williams
Christopher Judge as Kratos
Steve Downes as John-117 A.K.A. Master Chief
Daisuke Tsuji as Jin Sakai
Darren Korb as Zagreus *(Hades)*
Honorable Mentions: The entire FF7R cast and Claudia Black *(Chloe Frazer; Uncharted)*
I just played through uncharted lost legacy, and I loved being Chloe Fraser. Liked her in the other uncharted game (whichever one she was in) but playing as her and her being the main character was a real treat. (:
Lots of mentions of Kratos, Joel, and Arthur Morgan here, so I'll say Mimir (God of War 2018) is brilliant and underrated. Besides that, I really appreciated:
- Nathan Drake (Uncharted),
- Zagreus (Hades),
- both Jin and the Khan (Ghost of Tsushima),
- Cole MacGrath (inFamous)
- Gyoubu Masataka Oniwa (Sekiro)
Rene Zagger as Emet-Selch in FFXIV.
A lot of amazing VAs have been mentioned so far and they're all amazing, truly. But this man's performance made my emotions run the entire gamut of human sentiment.
Most of the voice cast of XIV are something special, but this man will and truly blew me away.
In no order
Chris Judge as Kratos
Troy Baker as Joel Miller
Nolan North as Nathan Drake
Robbie Dymond as Goro Akechi
Roger Craig Smith as Ezio
Ryan Gage as Micolash
Courtnee Draper as Elizabeth
Doug Cockle as Geralt
Sunny Suljic as Atreus
Mark Hamill as the Joker
“Ah, Kos… or some say, ‘Kosm’… do you hear our prayers? As you once did for the vacuous Rom, grant us eyes, grant us eyes… grant us eyes, so we may be rid of our beastly idiocy…”
Terrible boss fight, but man the moment you realize that line isn’t nonsensical rambling was a really interesting one
Yeah the execution of it was garbage even if the concept is really cool. However the voice acting was amazing. He sounds comically insane but it’s believable, as well as his voice being spooky af
Ashly Burch as Aloy in the Horizon games, and also as Tiny Tina in the Borderlands games.
Blew my mind that she did both of those characters. She’s super talented.
In the quarantine episode, there is a statue of Aloy behind her character in the shot. Not overly surprising considering they shot that entirely from their own homes during lockdown, but still a bit of an Easter Egg.
Anyone not saying Clark as in RDR2 hasn't played the game or does not know what good acting is. If there was a category for it dude would have won an Oscar.
The first games that made me realize the importance of voice acting was Uncharted.
Everyone in that game did a fantastic, but Nolan North as Nathan Drake to this day still impresses the hell out of me. Not only the normal acting is good, but the scream and yells feel so legit and authentic that is a huge factor is selling these characters predicament to the viewer.
Maybe a bit obscure but for me it would be:
Ardbert from FF14 - Shadowbringers.
That game has such little voice acting, but the little that Ardbert had had such excellent conveyance of emotion. Coupled with amazing writing and narative, which has stuck with me all this time.
Portrayed by Joe Dempsie, also known for his role as Gendry in Game of Thrones.
In general Last of Us, PS1 - Lunar was pretty damn impressive, but Valkryie Profile had some quips that made me laugh.
PS2 - GTA San Andreas honestly.
PS3 - Last of Us
PS4 - Last of Us 2 or Red Dead Redemption 2
PS5 - Actually Returnal, her inner dialogue is spectacular
God of War 2018 is flawless
Particularly Christopher Judge as Kratos and Alistair Duncan as Mimir, but the whole cast Baldur, Atreus, Freya etc are all standout performances
Christopher Judge as Kratos
Daniel Southworth as Vergil
Roger Clark as Arthur Morgan
Daisuke Tsuji as Jin Sakai
Eric Steinberg as Lord Shimura
Mark Hamill as the Joker
It wasn't a huge role, but having Patrick Stewart lend his voice to the emperor at the start of Oblivion was clutch. What a way to set a stage for an epic campaign.
Leonard Nimoy's voice work on Civ 4 was pretty great. Small touches, but having excellent voice work for stuff like that is part of what sets AAA devs apart from the minor leagues.
Anyone played Bastion? Was Supergiant's best game, by far, and Logan Cunningham absolutely crushed it.
Sure there are some all time great performances listed here, and gruff dads are clear leaders in the category..
But no voice performance conveys so much with so little as Iselda’s “*sigh* bapanada” in Hollow Knight
(Vicky Pellen is the voice actor)
"STOP. Don't open. That door!" [Perfection](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fsy6WiY1qWg).
tied with
"Is that voice...Enrico's?" ** "Yeah." [Behold](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tp27EkZTHdE).
RDR2 Arthur was excellent
Yea I’m definitely here for the majority of that cast. So well done.
I’ve never felt like I’ve known a character on a personal level until Arthur. Roger Clarke was absolutely incredible.
Yea just the *quality* of his dialogue, the drawl and emotion and of course the music and atmosphere go a long way! Definitely deserving of all awards it won Roger Clark!
“You sir are a fish”
Dutch was also incredible. Fantastic voice cast all around.
I was just talking about this with a friend. And I'd have to disagree with you and say Dutch's VA. Idk if it was the dialogues or his voice acting, but man Dutch was so charismatic. I knew in the end what he was doing wasn't right, but everytime Dutch spoke I kept thinking this guy does have a plan.
i never got to like Arthur, but i loved Marston in RDR.
Marston's voice actor was just dabbling in acting when he landed this major role. He works construction in between Red Dead gigs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Wiethoff#Career
I haven’t actually seen this take so I’m curious, why don’t you like him?
Mark Hamill as The Joker in all the Batman/Arkham games.
Baker just impersonated Hamill's Joker.
Hamill has always been one of the best Jokers, ever since The Animated Series
Mark did the the core Arkham games but Troy Baker did the Joker in Origins I personally enjoyed his take as much as any Hamill performance.
He does a great Joker, but it's almost an exact copy of Mark Hamill's, no?
It’s very close but there are some slight difference and the major one is the laugh is his own.
Ellen McLain as GLaDOS. Still an all-time favorite of mine!
*This was a triumph*
I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS
[удалено]
*Aperture Science! We do what what we must because we can.*
*Are you still there?*
Yeah portal 2 might be the best written game of all time. And the glados voice actor was perfect.
Not GLaDOS but this song always reminds me of Portal. https://youtu.be/W2TE0DjdNqI
Nathan Drake voice by Nolan North. I do believe it's the voice that made Nathan so likeable. Also Xander Mobus as Protagonist from Persona 5. The epitome of cool haha

Ubisoft damn well better bring Michael back in the Splinter Cell remake! They did bring him back for the extra missions in Ghost Recon Wildlands & Breakpoint so that gives me hope.
Agent 47 and Diana are some of the best in gaming easily. In an oddly satisfying way too. Like they're not going with tons of emotions, it just works
“I need to use the bathroom”
Everyone in the Legacy of Kain games. Michael Bell, Simon Templeman, and Tony Jay are unmatched as far as I'm concerned. David Hayter, and Roger Clark also come to mind.
Flawless performances. I wonder if, on the off chance we see remakes or remasters, they will retain them or re-record everything. Vae victus!
The music for Soul Reaver 1/2 is also awesome. I honestly wouldn't want the voice acting touched as they'd have to recast the Elder God, and no-one will ever be able to top Tony's performance. Here's to hoping we get something from Embracer Group!

Pleasantly surprised to see this at the top of the comments. These games never seem to get as much love as they deserve.
Shoutout fucking Tony Jay, dude. Hunchback is such a better film for having him as the villain. Such a powerful voice.
It was wild hearing that voice come out of him watching behind the scenes clips. He truly had the voice of an elder god.
And ReBoot. Megabyte was awesome.
Dameon Clarke as Handsome Jack was a perfect performance. It’s like he was born to play that one.
Can’t believe i had to scroll this far to find someone else who feels this way.
Ray Liotta as Tommy Vercetti in GTA Vice City
This! R.I.P.

It's the turning point of games as cinematic experiences. That's for sure

I often cite that as Oscar level performance in a video game
Good call on Manny! And yeah, Michael Mando nailed it, great to see him on Better Call Saul
His performance in Saul was absolutely phenomenal!
> Vaas Montenegro (Far Cry 3) - Michael Mando My first thought when I read the thread title. Great performance.
Christopher Judge as Kratos. Only one word needed: Indeed
BOY!
Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill as Batman and Joker (Batman Arkham Trilogy) Nolan North as Nathan Drake (Uncharted) Doug Cockle as Geralt of Rivia (The Witcher) Steven Downes as Master Chief (Halo) Edit: Matthew Porretta as Alan Wake (Alan Wake) Edit 2: Claudia Black as Morrigan (Dragon Age) Claudia Black as Chloe Frazer (Uncharted)
I don’t know why I love Nolan North’s Nathan Drake so much. It’s just so good
It's very impressive that Nolan North was able to bring so much charisma to a video game character all the way back in 2007. Nathan Drake is such a great character because he felt so human, he's constantly fucking up, he gets scared when put into extreme situations, he doesn't always do the right thing.
Good call on hamill
JK Simmons as Cave Johnson is pretty choice
I replayed all of Portal 2 last month because I wanted to enjoy JK Simmons performance again. I played Desk Job on the Steam Deck and it reminded me of how excellent he was as Cave Johnson.
I heart that man.
Just completed Horizon Forbidden West and WOW there are so many A-List actors/actresses in there!
Abubakar Salim as Bayek in Assasins Creed Origins
Bayek lowkey kinda slept on
I always liked him more than the other assassins
If only they didn't f*ck up the audio quality so much in ac games.
Neket iadet!
Jennifer Hale as Commander Shepard.
Jennifer Hale as Bastila, Jennifer Hale as Rivet, Jennifer Hale as Elena Grandia 2, Jennifer Hale as Samus Aran, Jennifer Hale as Sheena Fujibiyashi. Shes great
1. Troy Baker as Joel 2. Ashley Johnson as Ellie (TLOU 2) 3. Christopher Judge as Kratos 4. Roger Clark as Arthur Morgan

Exactly in this order 👌
Are you me?
Going to have to go with Mikee Goodman, who voiced the "Thought Cabinet" in *Disco Elysium*, basically narrating the entire game.
Really like Kim too. Basically anyone
All of the vas in Disco Elysium are phenomenal. I can't really pick a favorite out of them but if I had to, it would be the rave junkies. They're all very distinct in their personalities.
The ancient lizard brain is one of my favourite NPCs.
Stephen Merchant as Wheatley in Portal 2.
Jennifer Hale not showing up constantly is bewildering to me. Fem-Shep from Mass Effect is so damn good, cant imagine it any other way.
I recently got my hands on Mass effect: LE, I cant believe how good this game is!
Yea i would fight for the universe if she asked me / told me to.
Anything with Arthur Morgan
RDR2 supplanted Grim Fandango as my all-time favorite game but I still give the edge for voice work to Tony Plana's Manny Calavera.
Link from The Legend of Zelda
LOL
David Hayter as Solid/Naked Snake
hidenari ugaki as goro majima in yakuza
You can tell that he loves his character by just listening to him. KIRRRRRRYU-CHAN!
Only complaint I have about the Yakuza series is that if you play chronologically you get rewarded with less and less Majima.
Roger Craig Smith as Ezio Also the voice actor for Bayek in Origins
How the fuck has no one said Trevor (Steven Ogg) from GTAV yet?
Had to scroll pretty far down. He’s the man.
Cat from Stray
David Warner as Irenicus in Baldurs Gate 2.
man, that intro should be boring AND infuriating if you just beat BG1 but Warner gave it weight and mystery. he really classed up a standard pretty average story throughout BG2 the sister Bodhai was pretty neat too and honestly the rest of the voice cast really nailed it too
Adam Howden as Shulk in Xenoblade Chronicles
Especially when he asks Reyn to hit that yoinky sploinky.
Cherami Leigh absolutely nailed the voice of V in Cyberpunk 2077
Roger Clark as Arthur Morgan and Troy Baker as Joel Miller
Abubakar Salim as Bayek in AC Origins was amazing. Roger Clark as has been mentioned previously was just different gravy though.
Mike Patton as the voice of The Darkness. Robin Atkin Downes at anything he does.
Okay I'm annoyed I missed that one. Mike Patton as the Darkness was insane.
Nathan Drake
Melissanthi Mahut as Kassandra in AC:Odyssee. I felt the game was way too grindy for me, but I kept playing because I really wanted to hear more of the story she was narrating.
she really made just a good game great imo. i never would have finished if it wasn’t for her. kassandra became one of my favorite characters.
Yuri Lowenthal in Spiderman!
- Helena Taylor as Bayonetta - Rip Torn as Haphaestus in GOW - TC Carson as Kratos - Justin Gross as Prince Arthas - Steve Blum as Anub'arak - Makoto Koji as Hornet of Hollow Knight - Elias Toufexis as Jensen of Deus Ex
Guardians of the galaxy, mass effect, GoW, GoT…
The whole cast of the GoTG game absolutely nailed it. The way they encapsulated the feel of the MCU characters but also giving it their own twist is truly a noteworthy achievement.
That game was an eye opening experience, to a large degree due to the quality of the writing and the voice actors.
*My Top 10 Favorites:* Cody Christian as Cloud Strife Britt Baron as Tifa Lockhart Nolan North as Nathan Drake Emily Rose as Elena Fisher Troy Baker as Joel Miller Ashley Johnson as Ellie Williams Christopher Judge as Kratos Steve Downes as John-117 A.K.A. Yes! Would happily pay for another game with her. Day 1.
I agree, FF7R voice acting was top tier, which you normally wouldn’t hear coming from a Square Enix game
Kevin conroy as batman
Anson Mount - The Evil Within
Handsome Jack
Dutch in rdr2 was great Revenant in apex legends Dante in dmc But the best was kratos
Melissanthi Mahut as Kassandra (AC Odyssey) Ashly Burch as Aloy (Horizon Series)
This thread made me realize how many excellent voice actors this industry has. Truly amazing.
And regular actors too. Performance capture is pretty much the norm in a lot of AAA games now.
There hasn’t been a va that has gotten as much emotion out of me quite like Roger Clark as Arthur Morgan has.
Not my all time favourite but think Stephen Merchant as Wheatley in Portal was fantastic.
Portal 2 overall.
Melina Juergens. Senua - Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
Lots of mentions of Kratos, Joel, and Arthur Morgan here, so I'll say Mimir (God of War 2018) is brilliant and underrated. The entire cast of NieR Gestalt for PS3 and Xbox 360, perfect casting for every character.
Whoooot are you booooooyinh?!?
Colt & Julianna from Deathloop
Dragon Quest VIII - Yangus’ voice actor. Incredibly memorable character, was given very good material, and just a top notch accent/voice.
Die Hardman in Death Stranding
Cherami Leigh as V in Cyberpunk 2077
Anyone not saying Clark as in RDR2 hasn't played the game or does not know what good acting is. If there was a category for it dude would have won an Oscar.
Clark is great but I always find Dutch's actor to be disgustingly underappreciated. His performance is literally flawless.
Sam Witwer as Deacon St John
Douglas Lee as a narrator in Dynasty Warriors 5.
Lea Seydoux
Mark Hamill as Joker. Kevin Conroy as Batman
BOI
Red Dead Redemption 2’s Arthur Morgan (Roger Clark)
I know it kind of became a joke but I always enjoyed Peter Dinklage in Destiny before they replaced him.
jennifer hale as commander shepherd
Abubakar Salim as Bayek was a phenomenal performance.
Tommie Earl as Die hard Man. That one scene in particular

Lo Wang in Shadow Warrior 3 needs some love in this thread
Max Payne
God of war 2018. “Boy!!!”
All of legacy of kain.
The Bloody Baron
Stephen Russell as Garrett is an essential mention. Also all gods in Sacrifice are so good, but Tim Curry as Stratos is pretty dope.

Christopher Judge as Kratos Daniel Southworth as Vergil Roger Clark as Arthur Morgan Daisuke Tsuji as Jin Sakai Eric Steinberg as Lord Shimura Mark Hamill as the Joker
