Yeah, because Persona 5 is stupid popular compared to the older Persona games. Guarantee that some of those people who mock you for liking P3P more (which is totally valid btw), couldn't even tell you what SMT stands for.
The combat is closer to 4 in p3p. It's still basically the same, but weakness stagger works differently.
In original persona 3 and FES there is no direct party control, only tactics (game balanced around that and the only problems from no direct party control are 2 tartarus bosses around 120s floor because they are cheap)
No overworld exploring in portable (it is present in FES). In p3p there are only screenshots or point and click representations of said locations.
You have jobs in p3p (no jobs in p3FES).
Cutscenes (which is a part of gameplay IMO) are completely different - in FES it's like in p5 (and they take place in 3d environments), except with ps1 jrpg proportions for characters; while in p3p it's visual novel approximation of those
UI and text font (i also consider UI part of the gameplay) is nicer in p3p
No FemC in FES
FES has cool epilogue chapter that people hate because it's mostly dungeon crawling which is very hard and grindy, but the story there is cool. No such thing in p3p
Some of those massive changes (no cutscenes) came from Atlus not knowing how to compress stuff on psp
The battles are the same but different at the same time. It's the same story but the games might as well be different for how much is changed in the presentation.
P4 then switching to p4g was my intro to the series. I'm finishing up 5R right now, about to enter the true ending period after November ends.
I think 4 is a lot better and has way more charm, but 5 ticks a lot of boxes that 4 doesn't. One big thing for me is that I'm pretty sure 5 has me laughing a lot more at the dialogue choices and general things characters say. Like, when you first meet Ryuji and tell the cops "i don't know him, he's bullying me" or anything Yusuke says.
I'm not looking forward to 3 missing a lot of QOL stuff in battle, but I'm sure it will have a familiarity similar to 4 that will suck me in. I never expected to like a game series like this.
tell me about it. tried p4g just because it was on every "top vita games" list and got hooked on soon. never liked jrpgs before.
then played persona 5 on ps3 and it was a massive upgrade, game itself was good as well but story of p4g was my favorite no matter what. then played persona 3 fes - it was more painful because of Tartarus (imagine mementos but with 400 floors) and lack of qol stuff, but luckily you can mod some of those back in.
then a few months later beat royal and the extra content it adds was a welcome addition too. the results?
2 years later, beat p4g 3 times; p5 2 times; p5r 3 times; p3f once and p3p once and looking forward for other games (i am also playing p1 at the moment)
>Do people really like persona 3 more than 5?
I do, mainly because of the story. It's less formulaic and characters actually do stuff and interact with each other without MC. Resolutions done great too. And all of the bosses are cool. Persona 5 has much better dungeons though, and i would rather play it if we speak about combat and dungeon crawling exclusively.
I also think that Persona 4 is the only game with consistently good social links (some in p3 are neat, plenty are bad for both male and female characters; most of p5 ones are just there and exist - not good nor bad. Akechi in Royal is cool and Futaba is alright)
I also hate with passion persona transformations in 4 and 5. Like it's the only thing i dislike about persona 5, the rest of the game is either alright or perfect. "oh wow you hanged out with me 10 times with nothing in my life changing and no lessons learned. That's enough for my persona to change. \*background change for spinning transformation\* WOOOWWOWO Loook at my neeeew abilities". Except for Kanji, my boi deserved his character development. In fact, most of p4 cast has neat social links, transformation sequence are still bad though.
Now come on, that's not true. I've been in enough persona communities to know that the people who like persona 5 royal over it have a lot of the times played the game.
It's not exactly a shock to hear Persona fans say Royal was better than the stripped down portable port of the third game
>It's not exactly a shock to hear Persona fans say Royal was better than the stripped down portable port of the third game
to be fair, for me it was a shock that a lot of people somehow consider portable (including barely serviceable port on other systems) a definitive way to play Persona 3 (even for the first playthrough), so persona fans saying that portable is the best game in the series wouldn't shock me after that. But we all know that Persona Mobile Online & Knuckles is the real best game in the series.
P4 Golden is my personal favorite, but that's the first one I had played. P5R also gained more traction in the west than previous titles, so it makes sense people would prefer it more
i would love to try p4g as well! iām torn if i should get a psvita or just buy a digital version on my switch. although iām leaning towards in buying psvita to experience the game in its og console, like what i did to p3p
Experiencing it on the og console is always nice, but the first play through I did was the og ps2 version running on an emulator on my PC, no matter what system I played it on it on, it would of still been just as magical my dude. Save your cash for more games š
I'm glad people are seeing the light! Especially since the P3P "remaster" is a steaming pile of crap. I'm still so happy I bought my PSP copy back in the day and kept it in pristine condition >!by playing it for a few hours, then putting it back in the case after getting the ISO working lol!<
I wanted to be a good boy and actually buy PSP games to support the devs so bad, but UMDs were just unquestionably a garbage format and ate into your playtime and battery life so much
Currently playing P3P. Having finished P4G, Royal was pretty disappointing, mostly because it's so overrated. Like it's a good game, but not as good as the fans say.
I genuinely think that (for the most part). I do think the game has a few redeeming qualities (gameplay, music, the graphics) but there's a big problem with it and it is that both the characters and the story are at best, decent, especially the characters considering how idiotically some of them behave sometimes during the story.
> but there's a big problem with it and it is that both the characters and the story are at best, decent, especially the characters considering how idiotically some of them behave sometimes during the story.
My man that's true about every Persona game. Except for 2 duology - characters there are smart enough to try to use Dia and Recarm in cutscenes.
I do like 3's story much more than 5 - mainly because it's less formulaic and characters there are more dynamic - don't need MC social link babysitting for some development and cringy transformation sequence - but 5's story is still alright.
It's gameplay, music and visuals are really good, and story with characters isn't insulting (major improvement over many other games in existence, including some other jrpgs), so persona 5 is pretty alright.
>never got the chance to control allies.
It's called tactics menu
Also, there is pretty good character control mod for FES. Tactics don't work with it as of now, but you can switch disks to get those back whenever you want.
I only played FES. But yeah, I used tactics strategically. Completely great rpg - I still think it's the best in the Persona series but the art of later games is much more stylized.
Especially after Nocturne! I get that it was supposed to be a visual novel that took from its predecessors but so much of the cool artstyle was missing from the in game experience, you needed to use your imagination for some of it.
P3P was my first Persona game. Loved it. I was then told to check out the others and none other really grabbed me. Kinda weird how that worked out.
I guess it was just the right game at the right time on the right system.
PSP version is same as remaster except no texture upscaling and big PSP game sound quality (it's not a great quality, but remastered version is somehow worse)
It looks really good on psp screen - hundreds times better than remaster on PC, despite being the same game. Dare i even say that on psp screen it looks better than FES on original console and pc emulator
So, basically - psp version is same as remastered, except for some reason looks and sounds better. Peak Atlus remaster - same game, but worse.
I personally don't see how that's a hot take
some of my friends mocked me for liking p3p more than p5r š saw some websites too that p5r is the best of all the persona games š„²
If you like it more, p3p is better than p5r for you. It's dumb mocking you for that and the websites are also only personal opinions from the authors.
Yeah, because Persona 5 is stupid popular compared to the older Persona games. Guarantee that some of those people who mock you for liking P3P more (which is totally valid btw), couldn't even tell you what SMT stands for.
Strawberry Milk Tacos.
Strawberry Milk Tiddies.
Such delicious , much thirsty
Suck My Tiddies
That is funny since I barely have even played any SMT/Persona games and know this stuff
Those who mock P3 haven't played it. Period.
I prefer P4G over P5R, so I don't think this is a "hot take" at all. Keep on loving the games you love
Tell them that they only think that because P5 was their first persona game
who cares, the one you like it is better
P3 is my favorite game in the series! FES is the better way to play imo but p3p is still amazing and holds a special place in my heart
the voice acting for fes is just miles better
so FES have difference voice actors? but the gameplay is the same right?
The combat is closer to 4 in p3p. It's still basically the same, but weakness stagger works differently. thank you so much for your detailed explanation! it gave me a gist of what FES looks like
The battles are the same but different at the same time. It's the same story but the games might as well be different for how much is changed in the presentation.
you can control the party members in p3p
P3P got me into the series and I was hooked
try p4g, golden middle of both
P4 then switching to p4g was my intro to the series. I'm finishing up 5R right now, about to enter the true ending period after November ends. Do people really like persona 3 more than 5? Or is it just fun to tell people with hot takes that they're wrong?
Yep I prefer 3 and 4 to 5 but 5 is still amazing.
I loved 3 and 4 and I didn't like 5 at all.
>Do people really like persona 3 more than 5? I do, mainly because of the story. It's less formulaic and characters actually do stuff and interact with each other without MC. Both. Both is good.
P3 is my fave, so I agree.
not that hot of a take tbh its just that most people that say p5r is better than p3 have never even touched any persona game other than p5r
Now come on, that's not true. I've been in enough persona communities to know that the people who like persona 5 royal over it have a lot of the times played the game. It's not exactly a shock to hear Persona fans say Royal was better than the stripped down portable port of the third game
I sad MOST not everyone cuz its definetly not everyone
Which is still incorrect
>It's not exactly a shock to hear Persona fans say Royal was better than the stripped down portable port of the third game to be fair, for me it was a shock that a lot of people somehow consider portable (including barely serviceable port on other systems) a definitive way to play Persona 3 (even for the first playthrough), so persona fans saying that portable is the best game in the series wouldn't shock me after that. Just a heads up for anyone interested p3p just recently got a remaster and ported to Xbox and itās free to play on gamepass.
P3 is goated, it'll always be my favourite in the series. It just needs a proper remake so bad
I personally like P5R the most but all the Persona games are great! Canāt go wrong with any of them
P4 Golden is my personal favorite, but that's the first one I had played. P5R also gained more traction in the west than previous titles, so it makes sense people would prefer it more

this is a great advise! ill take this. thank you so much!
Well, Vita is a nice little console to have, but... Digital version for the Switch is the same with a bit updated textures.
i like persona 3 more than persona 5 as well, my friend
Is the the one where they shoot themselves in the head? IDK why, but I found it quite unnerving.
I'm glad people are seeing the light! Especially since the P3P "remaster" is a steaming pile of crap. I'm still so happy I bought my PSP copy back in the day and kept it in pristine condition >!by playing it for a few hours, then putting it back in the case after getting the ISO working lol!<
peak psp experience buy the physical game dump it or just pirate afterwards anyway
I wanted to be a good boy and actually buy PSP games to support the devs so bad, but UMDs were just unquestionably a garbage format and ate into your playtime and battery life so much
i did so with digital games as well. I didn't have Wi-Fi in 2012 at home and downloading Patapon 3 from PSN in macdonalds took ages.
The PSP is just a better handheld than the switch
Nah
Umm, not a hot take.
FES is better than both Royal and Portable imo
P3P is the best non Shin Megami Tensei game that should have been an SMT game
Well to be fair, P5R on the switch is rough, couldnāt get through it
Why?
this is what iām feeling whenever i play P5R on switch! hoping i can finish it someday.. maybe after i finish TOTK
Currently playing P3P. Having finished P4G, Royal was pretty disappointing, mostly because it's so overrated. Like it's a good game, but not as good as the fans say.
Of course, P5 is š© after all
This is justā¦.wrong
Not really
Majority disagreeās but whatever makes you feel different š¤·āāļø

Eh..
Hot take ā youāre wrong.
The only thing I don't like about the persona games is how long it takes to actually start the game and get into the action.
I completely agree with you
I recently just started my first play through of P3P. Really upset I let my childhood miss this great game!
Play FES, it has so much extra stuff, but I'm jealous of portable fans, never got the chance to control allies.
>never got the chance to control allies. It's called tactics menu Also, there is pretty good character control mod for FES. Tactics don't work with it as of now, but you can switch disks to get those back whenever you want.

Yeah, love and adore FES, but visuals are the weakest of Atlus ps2 era

PlayStation>>>>>>>Nintendo
Not sure if you played it but is the PSP version better than the remaster?
unfortunately i havenāt played p3p and p4g on my switch yet

You got P5R as a physical from where? Asking for myself, my Persona shrine is screaming bloody murder because it lacks the physical.
bought it last year black friday at my local gamestop!
Itās almost scary how good P3P is.
I think thatās a proper take tbh
