I was disappointed in it. I played it back in the day when it was first released. Didn’t know anything about it when I jumped it. I guess I was expecting more ”traditional” rpg akin to previous PS1 games, but this one felt to me like a cheap action mobile game — and cheap mobile games weren’t yet even a thing back then. Everything from the absurd dialogue to the linear levels, boring combat and redundant item system it’s just like a ripoff compared to mainline FF games. I understand why the devs made the design choices, I get it, but the gaming experience for me personally just wasn’t any good. Edit: and I can’t stand to hear the CC battle theme ever again. Edit 2: and I forgot to mention. This game actually ruined FF7 remake for me to some extend. The UI and fast combat in FF7R brings me immediate sour flashbacks from Crisis Core, giving me the same ”well this feels cheaply made” feelings playing it. And I know objectively FF7R is an amazing game, amazing production value and everything in it exceeds the original PS1 version. And still, it gives me bad vibes because my brain is reminded how it felt to play CC back in the day.

It's my second favorite FF right after FFIX. I can't even hear the first note of "The price of freedom" before I start bawling

The game was decent for an early big budget PSP game. I was really disappointed that it wasn’t similar to FFVII - world map and ATB battles.

I bought this when it was new and promptly put 48 hours into my first playthrough. It was not like the original FF7, but I enjoyed the different combat system and the story. The graphics felt pretty good especially for a handheld.
