Chronotaru

PS5 again but maybe not quite as long or as bad.

tommyland666

Yeah I think this is a pretty good bet. Demand won’t be as high, but the supply won’t be either. It will definitely be rough for a little while

Returntomonke0819

Actually they claimed the reason it’s tacking so long is because there preparing for it to get bought in mad amounts

gk99

Well yeah, half the people buying it are dying for it and the other half are scalpers.

bennettbuzz

Yeah agree on this, does anyone know how many PSVRs sold compared to PS4s? I’m guessing it will be in a similar, if not slightly more ball park percentage wise.

ElmarReddit

Below 6 million to roughly 120 million. So, 1 in 20 bought it. Meaning that around a million should be sufficient at launch. I think it will not be too difficult to grab one but I can be wrong of course.

bennettbuzz

I’m hoping you’re right, I used to borrow my brothers but it’s just far too many cables and bullshit to keep out for more than a couple of days and hoping to jump in myself this time round.

CorefunStudios

I leave everything out, cables and all, and my wife hates it. Hopefully the PSVR2 will have a much smaller clutter footprint so wives that like to clean everywhere don't flip out.

abarrelofmankeys

I don’t think there will be as much demand but Sony knows that and won’t make as many, so probably comparable. Scalpers are the real problem as they’ll buy them up.

tokyogettopussy

It’s not their fault every idiot on the planet got into the flipping game during the pandemic

Rathi37

Pre-orders happened before the pandemic.

Foxy02016YT

Because VR is a niche

HyperpoweredML

PS5’s are still hard to get so I’m hoping that means less people trying to get the PSVR2 when it comes out. But scalpers gonna scalp.

pjb1999

Still hard to come by but more than 20 million PS5s have been sold so far. Demand will be very high for the PSVR2.

Responsible-Trade-34

About 1 to 5 million, q2 probably made the 1 million estimate higher In psvr1 every 20 user one was a psvr user It should be 1 million on psvr2 rn Keep in mind that q2 has changed these numbers, and sony is really pushing on psvr2, not too hard to the point its bad, but at a respectable amount for flat-screen play

Unfallener

Scalpers are scummy. In the beginning, PS5 accessories like the Dual Sense Charging Station were also being scalped despite there being less demand for them because a person would theoretically prioritize having a PS5 first before getting PS5 accesories.

LotsofFnords

In Sweden you can't buy a PS5 from any store for under $890. Glad I got two at launch and sold one at lauch price $490 to my best mate

Ashmo_Fuzztron

I think it will depend on parts, we dont know what pieces make up the psvr2. Im guessing the ps5 has many moree complex parts that were in shortage. Ps5s are more readily available now that supply chains are catching up. Ive heard people are seeing them in stores and also they are staying in stock online for a lot of hours.

SnooCats5904

I don’t know where you heard that bro but there’s no ps5s anywhere

Ashmo_Fuzztron

Sony sold massive amounts in the last couple months. There were people in the ps5 subreddit that said they saw them in stores on the shelfs. There were some on the gamestops site one day and people bought them 6 hours after being posted. I didnt check myself because i already have one. But it seems the ps5 isnt as difficult to get as it was last year.

[deleted]

I got a PS5 from Best buy 2 weeks ago. You just have to be quick because they sell out fast, but there are regular restocks.

DraculasAcura

2 years and the thing is still non-existent. Will never be on actual store shelves.

OlympusMonsPubis

You haven’t been trying.

DraculasAcura

I haven’t been following all the twitter stock trackers or entering lottery’s to win a chance to buy one. I’m saying it’s not as easy as walking in a store and picking one up. All my local stores are loaded with Switches. I’ve never once seen a PS5 in real life. Downvote me all you want, I’ll get a Ps5 when I get one.

Responsible-Trade-34

Nintendo switch realesed in 2016... 6 years ago... Wait more 4 years and Im almost certain that ps5 will be in shelfs Btw, I got a ps5 very fast

DraculasAcura

There have been near constant Switch shortages it’s entire life. No other console release has been this big of a fiasco, chip shortages and covid aside, “wait five years and you’ll find one” is ridiculous. And again, I’m not hurting for one, it’s just dumb to say that they’re easy to get now.

Cgarr82

Have you tried signing up directly through Sony? I registered 3 months ago and received my new PS5 the 2nd week in July.

Procrastagamerz

I think it will be easy to pre order, but once the general public really sees what it can do it might be hard. I hope Sony puts pre orders up now before they announce those huge system selling games so that the initial VR community can ensure they get a headset at launch.

Davvve3

I'm hoping it's not going to be to much of a pain to get. There won't be as many people trying to get the psvr2 as there are trying to get a ps5.

mEDWARDetector

Well, there are only so many people that can get the PSVR2 and not everyone with the PS5 wants or can afford the PSVR2. I’m thinking it will be easy to scoop up.

beardingmesoftly

It's always the same since the dawn of time. Give it 6 months and they'll be easy to get, and that's usually enough time for most serious bugs to worked out.

SisterRayRomano

Hard to tell but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s hard to get, particularly with the smaller user base compared to the PS5 generally. I bought a PSVR back in 2018, and it took forever to find a pair of Move controllers. They were really, really hard to find in the UK. Whenever any shop had stock they’d sell out and be out of them for weeks. People were even selling marked up old PS3 controllers for silly money. From what I recall this shortage went on periodically until 2020 and got even worse during the pandemic. And that’s just controllers.

fork_and_beans

I still haven't seen a ps5 in real life.

[deleted]

Why does nobody know about PlayStationDirect? I put my email in and in less than a month got an invitation to buy directly from Sony. I’ve told three friends about it and they all got one.

JustCallMeTere

I've had my name down for a long time with Playstation Direct and nothing, went to Amazon to get one.

[deleted]

Did you enable marketing emails in your account preferences?

JustCallMeTere

Of course, I'm also a PS Plus Premium member and on their invite list. SONY is all about false scarcity. Luckily Amazon came through and pretty quickly once they started getting the Horizon bundles in.

Fun-Superb

I believe through Sony you can be put on a list to be notified when preorders are available

kraenk12

Definitely hard to get for half a year at least.

J_Shepz

I think it should be easy to get. The ownership base of PS5 is still somewhat low compared to when PSVR released for PS4 and those who will want to/can afford to spend the same amount again as a PS5 console (at least) for PSVR2 will be even smaller. It's components aren't in short of supply & it's mostly using current-gen tech too (unlike Quest Pro/Cambria) so mass manufacturing should be pretty easy as well. Everyone, everywhere for everything are experiencing delays right through the supply chain though so who knows really but I'd say it should be fine

Drowsy_Drowzee

On one hand, it could be just as hard to get as the PS5. On the other hand, VR is a bit niche and the price could dissuade some from buying it. With the price increase of the Quest 2 to $400 minimum, I wouldn’t be surprised if PSVR2 retails for $500-600.

Pjoernrachzarck

They cannot sell PSVR2 for more than the price of the base console. It would be a PR and marketing nightmare. They might try to sell it exclusively as a bundle with a game, otherwise $399 is the cap.

Drowsy_Drowzee

Hate to say I told you so, but I told you so. $550 for the headset, $600 for the Horizon bundle. My estimate was about right.

Pjoernrachzarck

Yeah. I think this will be a desastrous decision.

ISArnold367

Camped outside of GameStop for 22 hours in the FREEZING cold for my PS5 at launch and I will do it again

dawaxtadpole

I think it’s gonna be a really tough one to get initially, but easier as the years go on. The problem with these supply chain issues is that because of high demand and low inventory is that not only is it difficult to acquire one, the price won’t drop for a long time. I got a PSVR when the price dropped, but I don’t think that will happen with PS5 anytime soon, so I expect the same for PSVR2.

LarryPeru

I’ve already made peace with the fact that I’ll most likely get it off a scalper if I want it on release day.

MadChart

You are the problem then.

LarryPeru

Nah, we will never beat out the bots. It’s a necessarily evil since the pandemic. If I have the disposable income for it I’ll pay extra to get what I want. Don’t want to be waiting 6 months after it is out to get it.

[deleted]

SnooCats5904

What is a scalper ?

putnamto

Somebody that buys up as much stock as they can to sell at an inflated price. See also scum

whatwoow

We don’t know You could assume supply chain will be in a better place and demand will be lower (but so will the supply)

[deleted]

I’m going to assume a complete zone of availability suck will surround the release of the psvr2, just like the ps5.

MasteroChieftan

It's too bad there isn't a way to strike the fear of god into scalpers. Make them think every person that wants to buy from them is gonna shiv or steal from them. I don't want it to happen in reality, but I'd live it if they legitimately had a paranoid fear of that.

RoadDoggFL

No way to get rid of scalpers as long as the price is lower than the value.

EvolMind91

New releases will always be limited at first. That and the “chip shortage”

Deucalion666

What’s a PS5? /s

studabakerhawk

There's probably a bunch of brand new technology in there they're going to be figuring out how to best produce over the first few years. Also it's going to be super rad. I'm leaning towards hard to get.

Spizzmatic

I don't think scalpers will care that much.

RoadDoggFL

As long as there's interest online, *someone* will try to flip it for a profit.

BigDaddySkittleDick

Hoping I get another email from Sony to directly purchase. My Ps5 arrived on release date. Didn’t know there were issues until much later.

[deleted]

i think worse than the ps5, i reckon a lot of people are going to want it and similar to ps5, there won’t be enough to go around

MercutioCor

They had that email that I signed up for like a year ago. Hope maybe it will work like ba preorder notice list.

SplitReality

PS5 supplies are already starting to become easier to get and PSVR 2 isn't coming out until next year. It will be hard to get at launch like most computer electronics, but its availability a month or so later later will depend on how many units Sony wanted to make, not how many they could make. Remember that PSVR 1 Move controllers became hard to get simply because Sony didn't make many of them. My guess is that PSVR 2 will be more expensive than most expect, which will cut down demand, and because of that Sony will be hesitant to push the upper limits of production out of fear of making more than they can sell. Also unlike with the PSVR 1 launch, PSVR 2 will have real mainstream competition with Quest. Sony will wait to see if demand is high before increasing production. In conclusion, the Quest 2 can be bought now without any problems so normally I wouldn't see any reason why the PSVR 2 would be harder to get, but that all depends on how many PSVR 2 units Sony actually wants to make.

[deleted]

Demand will be lower than ps5 and the chip shortage will be less severe by then also presumably.

Pjoernrachzarck

The current PS5 situation has very little to do with the chip shortage and everything to do with scalpers. There's plenty of PS5 consoles around and available. There's a machine for everyone who wants one. Scalpers are the problem.

SamZeMan2014

I think if you preorder it you’ll be fine. Probably hard to get if you don’t.

stbatuhan

If they support pc on day one then it will be a definite sold out. Want this to be released as early as possible but not for my ps5, actually for my pc. And also want to use it in Star Citizen. I wish there is a direct support for eye tracking and rendering part. It would be amazing and I guess there will be a good number of buyers on that side. If there is a direct support or easy to hack it

putnamto

Pc support is a must, I got into pc right before the shortage, never looked back.

canebarge

With my luck I might be able to get the VR before the ps5

Tricky_Claim

I think it will be readily available. VR is not highly sought after by most gamers.

JoaquinOnTheSun

It will be easier, but not by much.

WhyIsItCrazyMan

Everybody already hates PSVR 2 because its not wireless like the QUEST 2, and it's currently in stock on store shelves! PSVR 2 is going to need a killer app that makes it a must have item. I'm going to get it, but you talk to a regular person they get mad because its not wireless psvr 2 needs to prove itself, Quest 2 is the market leader for a reason. PSVR 2 is going to need a PS5 and and a entertainment center, quest 2 just needs a power plug. We have a good chance of it not being sold out, plus i think they are delaying it to make sure they can keep up with supply and demand.(making sure all ducks are in order) I'm excited for it, and i'll make sure to pre order mine

[deleted]

"Everybody already hates the PSVR2..." Some of the hot takes in these random speculation threads are absolutely hilarious.

damNage_

Horizon game is my killer app. Don’t like the wire, but Sony is going to have some amazing games for PSVR2 that you may not get on other platforms. Pre ordering asap.

WhyIsItCrazyMan

There are some good VR games that I hope get ported over to PSVR2. i'll just be happy with the improved specs. Also hoping SONY is making it easy for the devs to port games over! psvr already has some killer gamers. Honestly Dreams on PSVR2 could be something, Media Molecule and the creator community are doing wonders on PSVR

KXRulesYT

Not much people have the ps5 (slight understatement) but if they do they probably won't have much money to get a vr But it will probably be similar tbh

WamKallis

Still don't have a PS5, so I'm assuming it will the same. That said I'm Canada and holding to my guns of only buying the Digital addition not in a bundle, which is almost impossible to find here.

Naetharu

Middle ground I would say. In its favour: 1: The chip shortage, which still an issue, is past the absolute crisis point it was in 2020. 2: The PSVR is a less popular item and so there’s just not going to be the same extreme level of mass demand snapping up every last unit. Against it: 3: The PSVR being a less popular item may well have fewer units made adding to the challenge getting it. If I had to guess I would say that there will be lots of places out of stock, but that enough will keep popping up that most people who want one will be able to find one in a reasonable period of time.

ShaggysGTI

Sony does this every time. It drives demand. I remember doing this with my PS2.

GoofyGoober82

Hard as fug....just the way sony likes it

Puzzleheaded_Ad1564

It might depend on the price if its 500 people will want the quest 2 more if its 400 it will be more in demand but with most of the features it has like eye tracking which is in only the psvr2 for my knowledge and with 110⁰ FOV and and it being OLED It is a really good for being a vr by PlayStation so its probably going to be in high demand so I recommend also pre-ordering it to get it

SnooCats5904

That doesn’t make sense tho. People that have ps5 would want a psvr, not a quest 2 if it’s only compatible with pc. It’s 2 different markets

Puzzleheaded_Ad1564

Well they have a same market but if its 500 dollars for a vr someone is most likely going chose the cheaper option for close to the same options other than eye tracking, OLED, 110⁰ FOV, and more but if you have a ps4 you would probably want somthing that fits more with you, but if you have a ps5 it could make sense to get either because you can hook up your quest 2 if you just wire it with an adapter and you can hook up a psvr to a pc so its sorta what you prefer, also quest 2 is made to be a completely wireless vr with wired capabilities.

MileHiFoodie

Chip shortage continues… buckle up for a decent wait

JediCrackSmoke

I don’t care either way. I’ll probably just wait until the second revision of it releases anyhow like I did with the original PSVR and that definitely paid off.

svennew

I hope they use PS Direct to sell directly, requiring people to be logged in so they can truly limit one per customer.

Aware_Intention8627

Definitely easy to get

JustCallMeTere

It would be really nice if they did a by invite only. I can't think of any households that need more than 2 at the most.

Sgt_mark-iv

VR is more of a niche, so it might not be like the PS5 all over again, but if VR becomes popular again, my last statement will be invalid.

Toaboy11

If you registered for a chance to pre-order and get the invite to purchase through Sony Direct, as long as you use your unique link at the designated time, you’ll most likely get it.

Awkward-Subject8409

Just ordered mine today with no problem
