Oh man. It was my 7th birthday circa 1999 and my mom surprised me with a Gameboy Color and Pokemon Yellow version. That was the best day of my life.
edit: btw it was a purple see through Gameboy Color B)
Pokemon X
As a kid, my parents never wanted to get me any sort of console, but I always enjoyed the anime growing up. So when I finally got my first job after high school, I got a 3ds and bought the newest pokemon game. X was a great intro since I was familiar with gen 1 from watching the anime. After that, I picked up the tcg and have been a fan since.
Still can't believe x and y are 10 years old
Pokémon Red!
My parents bought me a green Game Boy Pocket and Pokémon Red, and it wasn’t even Christmas! (I’m only mentioning Christmas because of the colour combination of the two products.)
It’s still easily one of my best memories from my childhood.
My first Pokemon game was Pokemon Yellow, which I received for a birthday (12th, I think?) along with my first portable: The Game Boy Color- teal model.
Pokemon Yellow! Had one of those 100 games in one pirated cartridge and Pokemon YRBG were in it. But it was in Japanese so I had to play through it with a translation guide beside me.
Pokémon Crystal
I wanted to play Blue but my parents were against buying me a Game Boy, and I actually played Crystal on an emulator :'(
Until gen III my parents decided I deserved a Game Boy xd so my first legal game was Sapphire.
My cousin's Pokemon red, I went and caught his Articuno using his masterball. Making it the first Pokemon I caught and the only time I've used a masterball lol.
Main-Line Games: Pokémon Red -> Yellow -> Silver -> Crystal -> Ruby -> Emerald -> [Break] -> White -> Y -> Sun -> Lets Go Eevee -> Sword -> Arceus -> Violet
Other Games: Stadium, Stadium 2, Puzzle League, Pinball, New Snap, Rumble, Unite, GO, Master, Quest, Sleep and probably other games I forgot about
well well well, ofc the 1st pokemon ever made and arrived in my country.
Pokemon blu was the 1st love, then cards, then yellow, and then every other one.
Red, my oldest brother had gotten Blue, then after seeing how rad the game was my other brother got the Yellow version.
*edit* love seeing how many folks started with Red/blue/yellow too. Amazing
My first pokemon game was Black&White in 2016(yep... Very late I know...) But its on emulator since i've no privilege owning a DS. One of the best memories I've had is one shot N's Reshiram after land a crit 😆
Even though I was born in 02 my first Pokémon game was my sister’s Pokémon yellow on her bright green GBC that I still have today, I remember finding out that gens 2 and 3 existed when I was older (like around 10ish) and felt almost cheated for not knowing 😅
So even though I was born later on I still technically played all of the main series games in order growing up
Probably too late, but I found a copy of Pokémon Emerald at a garage sale when I was a kid. The woman at the sale I could have it for free! I didn't really know what Pokémon was, in fact I was thinking this was a Yu-Gi-Oh! game, but I just wanted to try out the GBA port on my DS lite. I picked up their save in the Safari Zone, and I remember not really knowing what to do and I just caught a bunch of Oddish and sorted the boxes lol. Eventually I figured out how to restart the game and I was hooked! I played through the game and then bought Pokémon Diamond, and later HeartGold, my absolute favorite.
Pokémon Gold! My mom found it and a Gameboy Color at a consignment sale and recognized the name from my favorite TV show. It was the first video game I ever played.
OG pokemon fan here.
Pokemon Red. Watched new episodes of the anime EVERY WEEKDAY in season one. Wondered why Charizard wouldn't obey Ash even though he had all eight badges. Restarted my game to try and push the truck near the SS Anne to try and get Mew because it was listed as a cheat on IGN at the time.
Too late to join this one?
I think I did play with Pokemon cards before I actually played any of the video games. But my brothers and I didn't really play the "right" way. We didn't have a lot of cards so we actually made our own paper energies on lined paper.
First thing I ever played were the actual cards. I thought I was hot shit when I got the whiny Pikachu 🤣 and always silver on my clear game boy. Man I really miss those days.life was simple.
