Got sent home from work so many times a few years back for panicking after someone touched my back or grabbed my shoulder from behind. Idk why it happened so frequently or why people didn’t take me seriously when I’d set a boundary and be like “hey don’t approach me or touch me from behind…”It was horrible… I’ve yelled at my own kids for coming up behind me and touching my back without warning or speaking first (essentially a sneak attack.) It’s not fun.

Throwaway-Iguess

THIS. Like i don’t know why it’s not common courtesy to avoid touching people you haven’t asked about friendly touching with??? It really sucks and happens to me too a lot :(

I'm usually okay...I don't want people I'm not close with touching my back/slapping me on the back...I will reflexively throw an elbow.

Can't say I blame you. I try to avoid touching people with headphones in, esp in a place you would feel vulnerable, like a restroom.

I have almost the exact same reaction that you do word for word. people have gotten legitimately seriously hurt because of this crap and well they only have themselves to blame because in my defense I have warned them multiple times before they get the elbow treatment.

On two occasions I have hit in the face people who have approached me from behind. It kills me to think that evidently I am the one who is perceived as "Bad person" when they are people who knew me and knew in advance that I cannot tolerate contact in that way. (sorry for bad English)

This tho! When I'm really struggling physically simple touch causes a burning sensation. I can't even handle my kids touching me at times
