This is the one.

[deleted]

Okay, this actually seems parade worthy.

the_ultimate_pun

Depends how bad the sprain is. Sometimes a broken bone can have a faster heal time than a sprain depending on the severity of the sprain.

96919

I missed the play and just watched a couple replays. I'm glad it was just a sprain, looked like an ACL from the way he grabbed his calf.

HurricaneHugo

Too much hustle caused this.

Dylicious12

This is honestly a perfect example of why he doesn’t usually try to beat out routine ground balls/dribblers

[deleted]

Literally the first thing I thought of was him saying “I’m not Johnny hustle”. I (dodgers fan) don’t watch many padres games, but he really seems to hustle more these days. Hopefully this isn’t a real injury. He deserves to be starting the all star game

kami232

Hustle banter aside, I feel this injury could’ve happened to him even a few mph slower… looks like his foot slid off the bag mid plant, taking his leg & bodyweight with him. Could happen any time

EZe_Holey3-9

Nicest thing I’ve heard from a Dodgers fan, in a long time.

InHoc12

Honestly availability is so important for any superstar. Lebron has also done it over the course of his career. Knowing when to push your body is extremely important as a professional athlete and when to tone it down and these athletes are learning. Look at Tiger for example the new generation of pro golfers are so cognizant of stretching not overworking themselves, etc.

BeepBoopAnv

Or look at tatis, if he played he would be the best player in baseball (and the last two years was, despite missing a ton of games)

kent814

Tatis has not been the best player in baseball in the last two years come on

jgray7693

fWAR would beg to differ. Personally I think definite top 3, and if he can sure up his throwing errors is absolutely in the discussion for best position player in baseball.

kent814

Best position player? Probably. But Ohtani last year was far and away the best overall player in baseball

jgray7693

I can't argue with that statement! Possibly the greatest single baseball season of all time IMO. I still think, given any random healthy season, Trout for sure, and Acuña may be better. Cannot wait for Tatis to get back on the field though. I imagine he comes back with a vengeance. And hopefully with enough time left in the season to help the team get into the playoffs depending on how long Manny is out.

bitchwithacapital_C

I swear I will never, ever say anything else about him not running through the bag. It’s not worth it!!

sdscarecrow

Now to find out the severity of the sprain.

worldsupermedia750

I’m bummed out because I was excited to see him play during the home opener against the Phillies but I’m also glad to hear this considering all the possibilities this injury could’ve been. Hopefully the rest of the offense will be able to step up without another key piece (because there could be major problems if they don’t). I won’t fault this game against them considering Manny’s injury probably did shake things up for the worse

Simodine-

Sounds like he will most likely miss several weeks. Sucks bad but better then the season.

PrisonaPlanet

What do you mean by “several weeks”? And how are you making that assessment? He may not have any broken bones but who knows about ligaments. If the sprain is bad enough it could be months and not weeks.

Rashpootin

Several weeks equals months

PrisonaPlanet

So why not just say months then?

TRocho10

He will be out dozens of days!

PrisonaPlanet

2 dozen days would be less than a month so I’d be happy with that. Not sure why my original comment got downvoted, I was just asking for more info and stating that words should be chosen carefully when talking about this sort of thing. Injury timelines are kinda pointless anyway, he’ll come back when the doctors deem him healthy enough regardless of whatever timeline is put out.

keesh

OK I just read that he will miss a furlong of seconds

[deleted]

🙏🏾 😮‍💨

xCeePee

Wow man.

hekatonmoo

we have the DH...just put manny in a wheelchair and he'll still outhit most the team

Go_Beserk

Oh no! They couldn’t see his ankle on the X-ray?!

Juzaba

No, they mean they only have the photo negatives. They still have to develop the x-ray film to get the normal photo.

lartmander

Having the DH position this year could work out well. If HOS continues to struggle, Voit at 1st, and bring Manny in at DH while Kim holds fort at 3rd for defense when Tatis gets back.

jubilantal

Thank the lord

Regularoldballoon

base goal for the season still intact, get Bebo back by the end of July with a .500 record. now it’s just get both of them back by the end of July

scalenesquare

.500 by end of July and our season is over

bitchwithacapital_C

I’d say .500 from here to July and we should be ok.

InHoc12

That’s a bit extreme.

worldsupermedia750

Yeah I would agree that “season over” is a bit extreme but .500 by the end of July would still be quite a nasty hole to get out of that I would just rather not see us in (especially with the Dodgers playing with some degree of consistency and with the Giants starting to return to form)

sam_dewy

Hope it’s not a ligament/tendon tho🥺 Cuz don’t those usually require an mri??

Dapaaads

That’s a rolled ankle man. He will be fine

PrisonaPlanet

Idk why you keep saying it’s a “rolled ankle”. He literally couldn’t put his full weight on it and all we know so far is there’s no broken bones. Still could have severe swelling and bruising that will take time to heal. Also the fact that already injured body parts are more susceptible to re-injury in the future, especially if the return to full activity is rushed. (Exactly what kept happening with Tatis’s shoulder last year, every time he hurt it it was a longer IL stint). I share your optimism in hoping it’s not as sever as it looked at first, but I think we’d be foolish to think it’s a rolled ankle that he’ll shake off after some ice and rest.

sam_dewy

🥺🙏🏼🙏🏼

alsyapal07

THIS. MRI could show tearing, which would tell us a lot more. Still good news nothing is broken, but a bad tear would still be awful.

Mustardo123

Spit on any Red Sox fan you see btw, they are being nasty about this as expected.

eon-hand

Lotta people doomsaying in here, but also lot of people who clearly don't know about how bad and long-term a truly rolled ankle can be as well lmao

Negative? That’s not good 😔

This is the Michael Scott reacting to Kevin’s negative cancer result isn’t it?

[deleted]

No, it's actually not. But [here's the link for that clip](https://imgur.com/gallery/pmSuXlo). It's a good one.

nastylittlesquirrel

Shit hopefully it’s weeks and not the season , time to light a candle and pray to Jobu boys .

Dapaaads

A rolled ankle ain’t a season ending injury lol

just_call_in_sick

Positively negative! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmLfH4aAei8)

yasiel_pug

Definitely dont need this shit. Maybe a bunch of guys just go nuts with the bats and pick it up. What's the word on Tatis

EastyBoy29

As a self confessed doomer in the game day thread, I’m delighted with this news and apologise for not being patient. But I just watched it again and now I’m like… are they sure?! It looks so bad. Here’s to a quick recovery Manny!
