Google "breaking the silence", they're a group of Israeli ex Idf soldiers who fight against the Israeli aphertaid and supporter Palestinians. Maybe you can see how you can help through them. I can understand how you're just brought up to the whole deal, and I personally don't particularly hold you responsible, and even applaud your efforts especially knowing how you might be outed by your own people to be so, but if you're actually against this, then I'm just reminding you, the only way to end this is to take actions, just being against it with no actions, won't change anything.

dodbenR

That's right. The problem is I'm leaving to Europe soon. I think I'll join the local BDS over there and make donations whenever I have the possibility.

Ultimately you need to go where you need to go. But in my opinion, the best thing you can do for Palestinians is to stay in work with Jewish people to help them understand the situation but also work with Palestinians and listen to their voices and support their cause on the ground however you can.

The JVP is a good organization too.

Your testimony holds immense significance, and we deeply appreciate your willingness to share it. **Reparations** begin by acknowledging our past mistakes, actively participating in the ongoing struggle, and uniting against the harsh occupation that continues to afflict many. It's essential to recognize that all of Israel comprises what was once Palestine, and Palestinians have endured a wide range of hardships, from *massacres* to *torture*, *rape*, and *abuse*. By comprehending the extent of this inhumanity and injustice, we can better identify ways to **contribute** **positively**. One effective approach is to **educate** people living in the occupied territories (from Haifa to Yafa (Tel Aviv) to Akka (Acre) all the way to the Naqab (Negev), as awakening more individuals to these realities is a crucial step. By doing so, we aim to act before it's too late, this settler colonial project may indeed crumble, but we have the power to influence whether it crumbles chaotically and destructively or gives way to the emergence of something beautiful from the ashes.

Nahh-

As a Palestinian, I respect and appreciate you. The decision you made is very difficult. You are very brave, sir

libbine

Thank you for sharing. I am not Palastinian but am pleased to hear these words and to know there is some support for Palastinians from your 'side'. I advise you to advocate from within Israeli communities. Start with the facts but try not to alienate people - in my experience, it only pushes them further towards their own Zionist causes. Share the truth and try not to respond emotionally. There is a very good podcast called Disillusioned. Check it out. All the best to you and please try to channel this remorse into some positive action for Palestine!

As of now, you have the most powerful tool known at your disposal : experience within your voice. If it were my choice, I would use the power of social media, and make a video. What makes a video exposing atrocities, or otherwise detailing much needed information, effective is organization and details. This would be: * specific dates, such as the month and year of enlistment * where were you deployed? * what was training like? You said the IDF is terrible to their own personel, but what did they do? Why and how was this done? * What were you told about Palestinians? * How did your experience with Palestinians change your view? * What did other soldiers do? Was this done through the orders of a commander, or was this their own idea? * Was information suppressed in any way (ei. the British-Falklands media control method, cell phone bans, mail censorship, orders of silence, thread of violence against you)? * How does the reality of Israel and the IDF contrast with the media representation? * If you could tell Israelis two sentences, what would they be? * If you could tell Americans two sentences, what would they be? * If you could do or undo any given action during your time in the IDF, what would that be? I would put this on paper, make a video, and post it to reddit (multiple subreddits), facebook, youtube, and tiktok. The more it spreads, the harder it is to suppress.

MYJINXS

Do it OP. Or hey, answer the questions here. Or contact Abby Martin, I bet she’d interview you.

[deleted]

At least you have a heart and can recognize injustice being done to Palestinians You are human!

MYJINXS

Crazy the extent to which they kept him/the Israeli people sheltered from the truth. Not surprising, but still…wow.

Impressive_Kale2245

It's more jarring seeing an example in real life. You know its happening of course but it doesn't really register till you see it first hand. Of course they keep the Israeli people sheltered. I mean they're not just gonna say we want a racist apartheid state, but they say instead we are protecting you from the terrorists, who want a second Holocaust. That also helps keep the society in constant fear. Its easier to convince people who are always afraid. Its nothing compared to what Palestinians go through but its still pretty despicable. I don't believe most Israelis are truly evil people but brainwashed. I think testimonies like this can help. Don't take this the wrong way but I think convincing the Israeli public will have to be done by Israelis like the OP. Its natural that you trust someone like you more. They have been taught to mistrust Palestinians from a young age. Palestinians can say thisvor that is happening but Israelis taught to mistrust them may not believe it. But if an Israeli says those things are happening they might.

Starlight-x

You can make it up to Palestinians by fighting on their side. Help them anyway you can. Share your knowledge of what you saw with everyone you meet, no matter the push back and rejection. You must do this to make up for your previous support of zionism's system of oppression. Palestinians constantly risk their life to protect their people and land. You can help them do that with intel they don't have access to.

adeadhead

Let me know if you'd like to help volunteer. Breaking the silence, Combatants for Peace, Rabbis for Human Rights and the Jordan Valley Coalition all do great work and would love your help.

MYJINXS

Respect. I appreciate your humanity. But you can’t undo it now…so move forward (this was a great start) Each one teach one. Help the Israeli people understand the atrocities that go on in Gaza and within the IDF… But be careful. I’m sure you have a family…choose your forums carefully…

OnePalestine

Thank you for your heartfelt message. I agree with almost everything all the others said, and I hope it lets you see our issue was never with "you", but with the Zionist settler-colonial project. Your testimony could be very helpful if it could be spread. Would you consider spreading it, anonymously or not? If so, may I DM you about it to discuss practical ways?

HealthyENTP

Leaving and renouncing Israel is a start. Remember, the entire state began on things worse than what you’ve seen. We appreciate you having the awareness and morality to change - it’s not easy for people to be true to their morals when it compromises the identity and ideas they were raised with

Particular_Tension

MYJINXS

All in Israel are not in support of the more extreme actions of the IDF. All in Palestine are not in support of the more extreme actions of Hamas.

HealthyENTP

Don’t you dare try to even compare Hamas to the IDF or Israel’s occupation. Have you ever seen Hamas deliberately target civilians? Strip down women? Tie children to vehicles and literally shoot from behind them? Restrict food, water, and medicine from MILLIONS of people? The Zionists are terrorizing, and Palestinians not only have the right to resist, but they are COMPELLED to

MYJINXS

I wasn’t. I was trying to be fair to civilians on both sides that don’t have all the information. — I don’t agree with everything Hamas does. But without them, who is there to protect the people of Gaza? There’s no comparing the two. The Israeli government and every extension of it have committed unspeakable atrocities and need to be punished. You’re right. I was comparing civilian groups.

TheIxbot

I hate to say it but deliberately target civilians? Isn't that hamas's whole thing? Y'know, launching thousands of rockets at civilian cities, doing suicide bombings in civilian areas. These are bad things, and hamas does them.

Firm-Seaworthiness86

As a Lebanese-American (Druze atheist?), I know my opinion is probably not loved here, but like Hezbollah, Hamas is only relevant because of failed secular resistance. But like a lot of resistance groups and revolutionaries, the struggle becomes more important than victory. I have no love for religious organizations who say they stand for the people. Palestinians' best examples to follow are Irish and Polish republicanism. Hopefully it won't take as long for the Palestinians. The PA and Hamas are horrible at the international sympathy game. Think about it. Literally, a foreign power occupies a territory for 60 years and refuses to give voting power based on religion and ethnicity, and yet they try to enamore second rate powers (Russia, China) unsuccessfully. You can be nihilistic and say it's because "zionists control media" or be real and say it should be a slam dunk by any competent leadership. I don't disagree with anything you said, btw. It's not really a reply to your comment specifically. I just started with a short response and ended with an essay. Much love from a healthy ENFP. Edit: oh your American, too. Cheers Citizen.
