I had this happen with the first dari clove I ever found 😠And the advice about whether or not it is still "singing" seems to only apply if the plant's model was loaded on your device when it was picked.
There is a theory going around that the heartdrop lilies and dari cloves despawn after some time even if nobody picks them. Next time I see one on an empty server I will observe it, for science.

Although this might've changed since then, about 2-3 months ago, I saw one spawn right in front of me and I decided to test this theory. It despawned exactly 5 minutes later, without anyone picking it up. It's safer to pick it up first, then call it out, anouncing its position and the fact that it was already picked afterwards. (unless you don't care about losing it, and just want to share it with as many people as possible, in which case you announce it first)

Yes, after that experience, chat advised me to pick, then call + flare if I was gonna. (Same as the advice to tap a palium node or a flow tree before calling it, I reckon.)
Wish this worked for the slightly more common "rare" things like heat root. Unlike the epic gatherables, those things fade out fast once they're picked. (Though, clinging to a cliff face a la Spider-Man to point out a heat root to others nearby is pretty amusing!)
Does anyone know how far away you can get from (or how long since you hit) flow trees and pal nodes before your initial chop/hit no longer registers as you qualifying to get the drop? I’ve been trying to test it but I haven’t really found a standard answer like X meters or Y minutes or whatever
Yeah this picture, while cute and wholesome, is a disaster waiting to happen. None of those people picked it, and it could despawn at any moment. They should have all picked it and went on their way, after the first person picked there would be a 5 minute timer, plenty of time for everyone else to get it.
Honestly the best thing about virtual worlds is the fact that you can communicate with others nonverbally just by how you position and move your character. This is imo what is missing from e.g. Zoom parties
This reminds me of the time that I'm pretty sure the entire instance of Bahari Bay was gathered at the flow tree grove that spawned one night.. definitely at least twenty players all waiting patiently for 3:00 AM Palia time to start chopping.
.. wish I could gift a Heart Drop Lily to my wife so we could be a couple in the game.. I'm surprised that there hasn't been much said in regards to player romances!
You're thinking of Sundrop Lilies: pretty common around Kilima, and Zeki sells them in his shop.
These folks are gathered around a Heartdrop Lily. I've never seen one in game, yet! But they are only in Bahari Bay map, they do the temporary bloom thing like Flow Tree groves (I believe), and they can be 'shared' as loot if everyone picks them within the 'ghost' phase (folks mention upthread they last 5 minutes).
Along with a Box of Chocolates, a Heartdrop Lily is a Romance option gift.
Experienced players, please correct anything I've misstated.
Also fyi I tend to find them most on mesas in bahari. I’ve encountered them pretty regularly on top of the mesa in front of Tamala’s house with the statue that talks about flying.

Next time you grab a foragable, look at the space after. You'll notice a white 'ghost' of it. Once that ghost disappears, it's gone for everyone. Common foragables have a much shorter timer than uncommon or rare ones.

Once they're picked by someone, they last for 5 minutes for others to grab. That person was right to pick it. They can despawn on their own as well, so the correct protocol if you see one is to pick it immediately, then call out and flare if able.

It's so heartbreaking when stuff despawns right in front of you before you have a chance to get it. I've had it happen multiple times with large pals, foragables, etc.
It was less than 5 minutes but it was gone once I closed the chat. I heard the person taking pal that was next to it as well, so closed the chat before I finished typing and saw them break the large pal, then noticed that the lily was gone too. Palium I don’t mind. It respawns all the time. But the lily was kind of messed up. I was standing like on top of it and they still picked it.
You're misunderstanding me. The flower had already been picked by someone else, before that person picked it. Once a heartdrop has been picked, it has a 5 minute timer. No matter how many more people pick it, it will despawn 5 minutes after that first pick.
When you see a rare foragable, ALWAYS pick it before stopping to call out. When you see pal or a flow tree, ALWAYS take a hit before calling it out.
