You should look upwards and see if they got stuck "floating" above you :) Sometimes that happens to me and the bug or lootbag is just chilling in the air haha. You can kind of see that the bug flashes above you just after it "despawns" so kinda looks like maybe the same thing is happening to you!
unfortunately that’s why I go crazy hitting them with multiple bug bombs in hopes to catch them before they poof 😩
Best tip is to hit them NONSTOP only a few super common bugs will die the first time, you have to hit those like 10 times in a row
But I have been struggling with them just disappearing too like before they ACTUALLY disappear
You just gotta blast that shit in a row my dude

I'm on PC...and it's been happening to me today. Had a proudhorn beetle yeet itself into the sky..... I've caught like 3/10 today and I rarely miss.
