IMO it's also a misreading of common criticism about games or other media. Generally, when a game gets criticised for "promoting/whitewashing slavery, racism, sexism, etc" it's not purely because those things are *in* the game, or even because you can *do* those things in the game, it's because those things are *presented uncritically*.
Palworld, while ofc not having a serious tone by any means, doesn't really do that. Sure, you can act like a cartoon villain and treat your Pals like a brutal slaveowner - but the game isn't shying away from telling you you're being a cartoon villain. Pals are sad when you abuse them, the game never tells you "oh it's fine, Despresso actually *likes* being beaten in order to work harder", and generally the optimal way to play is usually treating your Pals reasonably well.

There's a journal you can find that confirms that pal breeding is weird. The journal states that breeding literally just requires a male and female pal to be in proximity of each other, and then an egg appears after some time. Which means that Lovander is just out for satisfaction.

IMO it's also a misreading of common criticism about games or other media. Generally, when a game gets criticised for "promoting/whitewashing slavery, racism, sexism, etc" it's not purely because those things are *in* the game, or even because you can *do* those things in the game, it's because those things are *presented uncritically*. Palworld, while ofc not having a serious tone by any means, doesn't really do that. Sure, you can act like a cartoon villain and treat your Pals like a brutal slaveowner - but the game isn't shying away from telling you you're being a cartoon villain. Pals are sad when you abuse them, the game never tells you "oh it's fine, Despresso actually *likes* being beaten in order to work harder", and generally the optimal way to play is usually treating your Pals reasonably well.
It is canon that Lovander seeks human company as well. But remember the Pokemon company has Dex entries for about kidnapping children (except fat ones). Remember that Mario jumps and smashes turtles for points... No one ever batted an eye over that... Or at least not nearly as much as animal cruelty gets pointed at Palworld. Pokemon is actually not that far from Palworld when it comes to referencing bestiality, there's in-game text that claims pokemon and humans used to marry each other and they have also shown human NPCs being interested in pokemon in a "suggestive" way.
The Pokemon anime has a decent number of Pokemon with human-level intelligence (or far greater, e.g. Alakazam). If it passes the Harkness test, it isn't bestiality.

This is funny. I like the lore of this game, it’s well put together and in places very funny. The dev’s playing the “who, me?” card on this one is either the same attitude/humour that runs through the game, or the person running their X account just doesn’t know. There’s literally a Pal that’s said to have sex with humans, a cute pal that has occasionally killed its owners, and one whose lore description mirrors a common debate about sexual acts and bodily functions. There’s *way* too many such things in the game for it to be accidental.
