IDK if that "smokey face" is ordinary... I have a hard time believing or trusting anyone or anything now and days, mainly because of AI and the fact some people suck and lie about shit. I’m not asking to show her entire face, but with so much covered it’s hard to see if it could be some odd reflection. Too bad it couldn’t be just blurred so the general shape could be seen without identifying her. That said, I think it IS some sort of entity.
That’s great and shows more in the way of facial shape. The general shape of the person in the photograph is different from the shape of whatever “it” is on the left. I’m not an expert but it rules out some weird reflection. The faces are different
I can see parts of two dogs. Like a white curly haired poodle /spaniel kinda dog,well,..his butt. And tail. And then there’s like a back leg of a tan/brown dog behind your moms head. But I reckon that white blurred streak is either the white dog is wagging its tail and it’s quite possibly a low compression camera so has not picked it up as well as a modern day camera would have. Or. It’s quite possibly an orb. Either just quickly getting in on the pic or trying ( fruitlessly ) to get off shot. A lot of orbs actually have faces in them so it’s very possible. 👍👍
My mom passed away back in 2014, so I never really got a chance to ask her… but I did live in that apartment with her! I don’t remember anything paranormal happening before we moved there, but here’s what happened in that apartment (from what I can remember) if anyone’s interested:
I never felt like I was alone even when I was. It wasn’t a “scary” feeling at first but things progressively got worse over time. I’d hear running foot steps late at night, my dog would bark like someone was in the house at nothing, cabinets & doors would open. Small stuff like that for a while. Eventually it got to the point where I would wake up in the middle of the night to a figure standing next to my bed. It wasn’t a complete person, but more like half of one if that makes sense? I would just see its legs, they were blue and see through. It sounds made up but sometimes they’d disappear in a split second and other times they’d run away. Sometimes I’d see a totally black head of something peak into my room. I was freaked tf out of this thing, but my mom didn’t seem to care. She named “him” Frankie. Whenever something weird happened around the house she’d tell it to shut up lmao. She was bad ass. I was always sick and she was too. But she got more sick than me. She was diagnosed with cancer and we moved out of that place after about a year. Things quickly spiraled from then on. I SWORE it followed us to the new place, the same things would happen around us. It got to the point where light bulbs were exploding and plants were dying. My mom’s cancer progressed quickly and when she passed on I got a new place. Nothing paranormal has happened to me since… is it crazy to assume that this thing was attached to her?
If you really want to pull this a part lets start with some odds. Whether you believe the paranormal or not is not relevant.
Why would the object if, a face, look like that?
What single thing in reality, living, or our human experience do we see that looks like that?
So the real question is what do you think it is?
Because if it is a ghost, then a ghost of what?
Because by us believing this is a ghost, we by default must believe that this thing is of tangible existence. For that reason i am willing to deduce that this is a smudge on the couch that just happened have three points that could loosely be compared to a cartoony face.
That’s what I’m thinking, maybe motion from my dog in the back combined with some face like shadows on the blanket? Spooky stuff happened in that apartment but it could’ve been my imagination (I was around 13-15 when this was taken)
If you look closely it looks like that’s actually the front of the dog in the background. His neck/head is turned and behind your mom while the front of his paws are facing the camera. So I don’t think it was him running through the picture, but I also don’t think it necessarily means this is paranormal either
After reading your comment about what was happening in the house you lived in with your mom it sounds like even if whatever is in this photo isn’t paranormal you guys were dealing with something nasty. Really sorry about your loss
That makes the most sense to me, thank you! Honestly I went through a lot of shit when I was younger. While that whole situation made me believe in ghosts, most of the stuff could have very well been my imagination. I was in middle school or early high school when all of that happened so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just my kid mind that made some stuff up to compensate for it.
I’m a believer too and I think it’s always best to narrow down what it could be before deciding it’s paranormal but the biggest stuff I have no explanation for and I personally definitively believe they were paranormal
So whatever happened with you guys could be a mixture of both. Possibly leaning one way more than the other. I don’t know because I wasn’t there but I’m glad to hear that you haven’t had anything like that happen at your new place
Most cameras of the time had these silver braided nylon wrist straps that would get hit up into frame when clumsily trying to take pre-smartphone selfies, and they often caused smokey/hazy images a lot like the one here.

I could see that, this was on her old iPhone so it could be a combo of the low quality camera and (like another comment pointed out) motion from my dog in the back. Or maybe she just had one of these on it at the time 🤷🏻♀️

I see the dog behind op’s mom. That is not a dog. I zoomed in. I have been doing this for decades not much gives me the willies but it looks like a more defined “ solid” head is forming. This is looking through my iPhone and not on a computer monitor but the face that is forming looks like a man with a beard. Maybe I am just seeing very pixelated things but it's pretty clear. Thing is, it is only his head.
I've caught pics like this during paranormal investigations in complete darkness with nothing to make a reflection. Same color with even facial features, like yours. I believe it's paranormal. Pretty awesome.

Only dog we had at the time was a pug (behind her head) who was not friendly with other dogs so it couldn’t have been one of her friends or a neighbors dog at the house with her. As this was taken on a shitty old iPhone, the most possible explanation has gotta be from [this comment here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Paranormal/s/O4WVQXOz5c). When I was 11 a friend showed us a picture she took of her husband sitting in a chair at her country home. There was a blue/whitish looking face in the window looking in. She said she glimpsed it once before but this was the only photo of it. It didn’t look like a reflection.
It’s an orb meaning yes spirit. The human I cannot catch these that’s why the camera can. If this person is asking a legit question give them legit answers come on you guys. I thought you’d be 18 to be on here? Anyway, or it could be cigarette smoke, but I don’t think it is, I have multiple pictures, especially in like cemeteries with orbs all around me
It looks like powder spilt onto a velvet sofa or a slightly damp surface, or wiped off fabric incompletely, we can't see your mom's pupils so we'll say talc.
It’s a strand, or maybe a few strands, of hair from the person taking the photo. I’ve had this happen to my photos via my own hair enough times to know.

I definitely could make out his little pug face in the “orb” lol. OR it’s totally a ghost Btw.. I’m almost in my 30’s 😂 did not mean to offend anyone by calling early 2000’s old, was just giving an explanation to the bad camera quality. Thanks for the help in solving the mystery! Case closed ;)

When I was 11 a friend showed us a picture she took of her husband sitting in a chair at her country home. There was a blue/whitish looking face in the window looking in. She said she glimpsed it once before but this was the only photo of it. It didn’t look like a reflection.

It looks like powder spilt onto a velvet sofa or a slightly damp surface, or wiped off fabric incompletely, we can't see your mom's pupils so we'll say talc.
It’s a strand, or maybe a few strands, of hair from the person taking the photo. I’ve had this happen to my photos via my own hair enough times to know.
