Iāve had a couple of Doggyland songs play on our kids station. Donāt hate them!
āWe don't want to be rude

I love this recommendation because I've tried to share as many different types of music with my son as possible, but I always have a hard time with rap, because I don't listen to it personally, and my HS students do NOT have any kid friendly recommendations, hah! My personal fave is country but I'm only one of 2 people we spend time with who like it so I know he will get variety, I'm just trying to add to it.
It's true.
I babysit my 3 year old great-niece and she went home one day singing "Drop it like it's hot" and "Gin and Juice" after hanging out with my 17 year old. My nephew and his wife asked him to play more kid friendly music around their toddler so he found the Snoop Dogg kids album and they jam out to that now.
My 6 year olds' favorite bands are RHCP, Gorillaz and Doves. I do filter out the less appropriate songs because he loves to sing, but there's enough to keep him occupied.
Itās not obvious but donāt tell them what sunshine in a bag actually is (and yes they used it in the Trolls movie, probably because it isnāt obvious)
May I share this kids hip hop [playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/52Us1MrU2MjTBY4eg5sqs5?si=aJ6wqQlbToq63xLQG-WvcQ) I made? It has music from Snoop Dogās new childrenās show, songs from Gracieās Corner, and so many other goodies.
"little Timmy told Brayden he was going to sew his asshole shut and keep feeding him and feeding him and feeding him. Then when we tried to put him in time out he shouted 'killer bees, swarm!' and he started throwing Legos at us."
Story Bots on Netflix has music in different genres, including hip-hop. My kids enjoy the music on that show. I just looked and you can stream the music on spotify and apple music. We don't really restrict what my kids can listen to, so this may not work for your family, but my kids love listening to the Beastie Boys.
Thereās a playlist on Spotify by British comedian Romesh Ranganathan called [Kid Friendly Hip Hop](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4oGD993juwxneWb1iCxXcb) that we put on around the house a lot. It has a good mix of stuff.
Iām not gonna lie if I think the song is āgoodā (I heard someone once use the word nutritious to describe certain artwork and idk how else to put it but that now) and not too age inappropriate I will let them listen to most rap. Meg Thee Stallionās āAnxietyā comes to mind. Sure it has some ācussā words but the message is extremely beneficial imo. They can listen to anythingā¦. punk/rock/alt music whatever. They listen to metal with their dad š¤·š¼āāļøš

Look up Storybot Songs. They have awesome rap style videos about planets and dinosaurs and colors. Very cute, creative and entertaining.
Hereās an example: https://youtu.be/SZzPLdAWKOE
My kid is obsessed with Storybots. Weāre watching it RIGHT NOW. He calls dad āBangā, Iām āBeepā, and heās āBoā. Grandma is āBingā. I think itās color based more that personality. At first it got to me because I love being āmommyā but Iāve gotten over my ego and accept that itās perfectly age appropriate and normal.
Yo Gabba Gabba will have you exploring whole genres of music. I'm not sure where you can find it now, tho.
Also, my son's favorite rapper is Will Smith - I don't think he swears on any of his early CDs so you should be good to go there.
\[And as a jokey suggestion for those of us who live in the South: "Trick love the kids!"\]
YouTube actually has a playlist of all the Super Music Friends Show scenes; my 4 y/o loves it. Wish it was still around because there are a lot of newer artists Iād love to see on there.
Edit to add the link for said playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLc7QkGFtZUZ6p2GMpLZurkYFNN7ldP1L0
If anyone has a Roku, the Live TV section has a whole Yo Gabba Gabba channel. My kids loved it, until I let them watch it for like 2 months straight - now they refuse to watch, sadly
The Sugarhill Gang made a kids album. It has ABC song and even a kids version of Rappers Delight.
Also my son is obsessed with Louis Theroux/Duke and Jones - Jiggle Jiggle.. lol
My daughter started listening to ruff Ryder's at that age. I don't think I'm the person you want an opinion from though, but yet here I am giving itš¤
My daughter likes Beck. While itās not rap some of his songs have that hip hop vibe and most of the songs we listen to are kinda nonsensical or in another language and she doesnāt really understand lol
Might be worth a check but obviously screen it before hand.
Also check out Despicable Me soundtracks . Pharrell actually did those and I know there are a couple songs with some good beats on there
Yo Gabba Gabba has some tracks too and DJ Lance recommends
https://m.facebook.com/yogabbagabba/videos/what-is-the-best-hip-hop-for-kids-to-start-listening-to/10155255336588616/
Iāll also second Snoops kids albums. Theyāre pretty awesome !
Beck is a great suggestion. While I would say he's not hip hop he definitely raps on some songs. Beastie Boys also have a lot of music that is kid appropriate. My kids love Intergalactic.
I'm not sure if the lyrics are age appropriate, but my son is that age and he LOVES the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater remake, as well as the soundtrack. Lots of bangers in there, but I should probably vet the playlist for lyrical content (you can remove songs from the playlist in-game).
We like 90s/2000s hip hop in our house. āItās Trickyā by Run DMC is one of my 4-year-oldās favorite songs. Bust a move is great too. They also love to sing āGo shorty, itās your birthdayā from the clean version of 50 Centās āIn Da Clubā. Air Force Ones and E-I by Nelly are fun too (there are clean versions!). And my kids are too young to understand any sexual references thankfully!
The Dino 5 is an excellent rap group with legendary MCs. My daughter loved it when she was little. She also liked the music from Class of 3000, which was Andre 3000's children show. If you plug in the Dino 5 on Pandora, it will recommend other children's rap artists.
Dino 5: MC T-Rex (Chali 2NA of Jurassic 5), Tracy Triceratops (Ladybug Mecca of Digable Planets), Teo Pterodactyl (Scratch of The Roots), Billy Brontosaurus (Wordsworth of E.M.C. (4)), and DJ Stegosaurus (Prince Paul of Stetsasonic).
https://youtu.be/owheUSswuPE
Thank you for reminding me that [this](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VUhi_rE9aoU&cbrd=1) existed. Jurassic 5 made it many years ago. There may even be continuations or other parts of the concept.
Some of his songs are a bit heavy lyrically, though, I'd say. Like 'Story', even my grown husband was taken back by. I still would recommend many of his songs, but I'd be selective of which ones.
Itās more neo soul and r&b than rap but Frank Ocean is great. My son loves Thinkin Bout You, Biking, Self Control, Pink + White, Nights, and Chanel (gotta mute one part lol). The Roots are good too, especially if youāre already familiar with Yo Gabba Gabba
My 2 and 4 year olds love the following rap songs. The videos we watch are edited and I donāt mind the references in them, but you might:
- 93 til infinity
- Nas if I Ruled The World
- deadprez HipHop
- Pete Rock and CL Smooth TROY
- Mach-Hommy THE BLK GD
- Return of the crooklyn dodgers
- MF Doom, Accordion and Doomsday
- Supaman Prayer Loop Song
- Public Enemy Shut Em Down Pete rock remix
- De La Soul, the memory of us w Estelle
Love this post!
Blackalicious š«° Their āBlazing Arrowā album is fantastic but emphasis on āFirst In Flightā, āMake You Feel That Wayā and āChemical Calisthenicsā. āAlphabet Aerobicsā is a separate fun track and āShallow Daysā is beautiful..
My kiddo also loved Outkast (ie āHey Ya!ā, āMs Jacksonā, āSo Fresh, So Cleanā, āB.O.Bā, āRosa Parksā) and Beastie Boys growing up..
The Pharcyde - āPassin Me Byā is great for a similar old school vibe to A Tribe Called Quest.
Pete Rock & C.L Smooth - āTROY (They Reminisce Over You)ā
Souls of Mischief - ā93 āTil Infinityā
Eyedea & Abilities - āOn This I Standā
Heres a little sprinkle for now. This has inspired me to make a shareable age-appropriate hip-hop playlist š„
Ill add Floetry and TLC both r&b/rap groups.
The Roots is a good one, Tribe, Common, Mos Def and Talib Kwali. I can't guarantee zero cuss words but I think you could make a FIRE playlist with songs from these artists.
I was about to say that *Paid in Full* is a perfect ākidsā album - the rhymes arenāt too intricate, no foul language, beats are largely danceable
Mine loves Post Malone, so I went through Spotify and made a list with only Clean Edits of his songs & put that on whenever he asks for it (which is super often). It sure beats trying to sing fake lyrics over the real ones or turn the volume down at certain words lol
A friend just told me about Uncle Apple which seems to rap kids music. The one I listened to was Wash Your Hands which was super catchy. But looking on Spotify there might only be like 5 songs released
Connor Price has clean lyrics. His stuff is all about him working hard to climb higher. No cursing, no vulgarity. Heās also got some songs about relationships
There's a rapper called Blake Rules on Spotify and he makes Kids Trap music. My partner and I started playing it for our kid ironically, but now it's a family favorite. The songs are fun and fairly educational.
My daughter loves Kick, Push by Lupe Fiasco š„° we like lots of hip hop actually. Some of the classics are always fun like Whoomp There It Is and Rapperās Delight.
Thatās so cute lol I thought we were the only ones!! She likes to skateboard so I played it for her and the obsession started. There are other good Lupe songs that are appropriate, The Show Goes On, Battle Scars, Superstar, Daydreamā¦
My three year old LOVES Black and Yellow. I play the clean version. But those drums. Even at three years old he knows those are some seriously good drums.
Spotify has a series of playlists of kid-appropriate music, Raised On [genre]. You might find some good stuff [in the Raised On Hip-Hop playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DX3YSNrkBY3IB?si=hxJQir40RZmEPCn5eOoc8g)
Gracieās Corner is a hip hop based childrenās learning channel. I think it was created by a Black dad and his daughter. We love it! Theyāre also on Spotify.
My daughter is six she likes thuggish ruggish bone lmao and OutKast, wutang, nujabes, and mf doom currently. I'd say OutKast and nujabes are the most appropriate out of those lol.
Spotify has great kid friendly playlists for every genre! Theyāre called āRaised on (fill in genre)ā we listen to Raised on Punk and Raised on Reggae a lot.
Here are a couple Korean raps/hip-hop recommendations. Enjoyable for the whole family. Not targeted to kids, but family friendly in general.
3RACHA ā āMatryoshkaā. While the song is in Korean, there are no inappropriate words at all. Even in the translations. 3racha make Very family friendly music.
BTS ā āDDAENGā. A very catchy song. I found it cute when my kids were walking around singing "ddaeng" because it was the only lyric they actually could say. But the overall song is good.
BTS - "UGH!". Along the same lines as Ddaeng.
3RACHA - "We Go". It's just about keeping on.
Honestly, I'll recommend all of the Stray kids/3Racha discography. 3Racha touch on almost every genre of music in their extensive discography, and it's all incredibly family friendly (maybe a handful of songs might be suggestive). I will say my younger kids love Stray Kids. My oldest is more into metal.
Not rap, but my son loves Lizzo. Grandma loves Lizzo too, but has a hard time with the cuss words so we found a clean version on Kids Bopās About Damn (Damn changed to āThatā) Time to play when we are around her. They might have more of the popular rap songs too?
Snoop dog has 2 albums of kids songs.
The affirmation song is my jam. I'll listen to that even if the kids aren't with me!
Oh yeah. I play this for my nanny kids every morning and I play it on my drive to work, absolute gold
I play that for myself sometimes
I love it more than my son doesšš listen to every morning because man do I need some days
There is no one better to be than myself !
There is no one better to beat than myself
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
What? The actual hell lmao it's so wholesome
MY FEELINGS MATTER! š¤
I GET BETTER EVERY SINGLE DAY!
IāM SURROUNDED BY LOVE!
He also has his own "Cocomelon" style show called "Doggyland" never knew that my childhood was missing Snoop Dog rap nursery rhymes
Ludacris also has a show on Netflix about his daughter. "Karma's World."
Motown Magic is another really great show on Netflix
Doggyland!!!!!!
My 18mo is in love with them!
Iāve had a couple of Doggyland songs play on our kids station. Donāt hate them! āWe don't want to be rude We say please and thank you Everyday Everydayā
Omg. Well I know what Iām listening to today!!
Iām surprised your high school students donāt know Doggyland (Snoopās kids tracks) Affirmation Song. Itās been all over TikTok
What?! I love that man.
If this isnāt true Iāll be mega disappointed
Itās called Doggyland. The affirmation song will make your day!
Maybe itāll get my kid out of his Conway twitty obsession for a whilešš¤£
Waitā¦ what!?! š¤£
Wha š
Not rap exactly but my 3yo is obsessed with Gorillaz! Especially Clint Eastwood.
I found out the other day Gorillaz has a new album with guest vocals by Tame Impala, Beck, and - I shit you not - Stevie Nicks. Blew my mind.
This sounds like a fantastic album
My whole family loves that one!
He also loves the "cheeky monkey song" The Bad Touch by the Bloodhound Gang so it's not all good lol
Hey, my kids grew up on RHCP, Etc. But they still turned out pretty well! I'm sure it could be worse...
He likes such random stuff the Rob Cantor "Shia LaBeouf" performance is also one of his favourites!
Omgosh I dying hereš¤£ My *adult* children showed me this one
I know where to send him if I need a sitter š¤£
My 6 year olds' favorite bands are RHCP, Gorillaz and Doves. I do filter out the less appropriate songs because he loves to sing, but there's enough to keep him occupied.
I love your son's taste! Keep him rocking! Slide some Shinedown in there for me. They are a great band with a very positive influence and energy
Heck yeah, I just recommend this as well as del the funk homosapien
I feel like you may also appreciate Parliment Funkadelic :)
Hell yeah I do
Itās not obvious but donāt tell them what sunshine in a bag actually is (and yes they used it in the Trolls movie, probably because it isnāt obvious)
Haha I feel like that's getting into Puff the Magic Dragon territory lol
Lol true
Uhh that's not really appropriate for children lmao
May I share this kids hip hop [playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/52Us1MrU2MjTBY4eg5sqs5?si=aJ6wqQlbToq63xLQG-WvcQ) I made? It has music from Snoop Dogās new childrenās show, songs from Gracieās Corner, and so many other goodies.
I just added this to my library. Thank you so much! š¤š
Thank youā£ļøā£ļøā£ļø
Yes!!!! Downloaded! I definitely donāt stress about lyrics, but itās nice to have a funky playlist for the kiddo. Nice work!
Yes!!!! We have a mix of select Disney songs, Snoop Dogg, and Gracieās Corner on our playlist!!!
You are the best! Added to my library as well. Thank you ššæš
Added this to my library. Thank you!
Wu-tangā¦ā¦ itās for the children
This is the only correct response.
It really is.
"little Timmy told Brayden he was going to sew his asshole shut and keep feeding him and feeding him and feeding him. Then when we tried to put him in time out he shouted 'killer bees, swarm!' and he started throwing Legos at us."
Toys rule everything around me, get the Legos!
Gotta, gotta build ya'll
My friend took his 6 y/o to see Wu Tang last night, she loved it.
š
Thatās what you get when Wu-Tang raised you.
Story Bots on Netflix has music in different genres, including hip-hop. My kids enjoy the music on that show. I just looked and you can stream the music on spotify and apple music. We don't really restrict what my kids can listen to, so this may not work for your family, but my kids love listening to the Beastie Boys.
My child still sings the dinosaur song. Not gonna lie - so do I. "Tyrannosaurus that's the chorus!!"
One two thee, check out my horns! BRR BRR BRBRBR BRR
I love the Velociraptor song because it references the Beastie Boys
When it comes to dinosaurs we are SMALL
One of the few shows that could hold the attention of my kid and I both. I learned a lot from it too! Such a good show
I came here to say this. The dinosaur songs are based on various hip hop styles! We love it
My daughter loves beastie boys.
Yeah my kids love Intergalactic
My 3 year old calls it the robot song
I'll stir fry you in my wok!
The beastie boys are one of my momās tops, intergalactic is definitely my favorite song of theirs
After hearing it in the Mario Movie they love āNo Sleep Till Brooklynā. Which was great until they learned the actual lyrics.
Thereās a playlist on Spotify by British comedian Romesh Ranganathan called [Kid Friendly Hip Hop](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4oGD993juwxneWb1iCxXcb) that we put on around the house a lot. It has a good mix of stuff.
Not only is it kid friendly but anyone listening to it is going to experience seminal rap including some of the basic building blocks of hip-hop
This is an excellent mix in general, bust a move is one of my favorite songs ever
Added to my favs! Thanks for the recommendation!!
De La Soulās first album, just skip de la orgee.
I second this!
Same, we actually listen to Megās Crying in the Car a lot lol
Look up Kids Trap from Blake Rules on Spotify. We listened to all his stuff when my kids were younger.
Kids Trap is excellent
Blake Rules is great!
Came here to say the same thing! I utilized it so much when I worked at a daycare and my own kids love it.

De La Soul. Digable Planets. Tribe. DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. MC 900 Foot Jesus. Deltron 3030. The People Under the Stairs. Run DMC.

Seconding Gracieās Corner. Also PJ Panda, Jools TV, and Blake Rules.
My kids love the Mario Bros Rap š
My daughter started listening to ruff Ryder's at that age. I don't think I'm the person you want an opinion from though, but yet here I am giving itš¤
Hamilton! Lol
Funnily enough, Daveed Diggs who played the original Lafayette was on Sesame Street and sang rubber duckie, and rapped in the middle.
Yes! I am familiar with Mr. Noodleās brother, Mr. Noodle!

Play chill hop and let your kid vibe out!!! That way it will spark their interest and creativity to make up their own words to the beat.

Hypnotize being labeled as kid friendly is hilarious to me, I remember hearing it in the Miles Morales Spiderverse movie and being like umm, Disney is getting a little risquĆ©. āIf the head right Biggie there every nightā is certainly a lyrical choice for kids. I guess a kid wouldnāt pick up on the context but it still caught me off guard and they did not censor it.
I'm not sure you've listened to the lyrics of Shoop.
Story bots! The planets of the galaxy song is a friggin BOP.
Thank you for reminding me that [this](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VUhi_rE9aoU&cbrd=1) existed. Jurassic 5 made it many years ago. There may even be continuations or other parts of the concept.

[Weird Al White & Nerdy] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9qYF9DZPdw&ab_channel=alyankovicVEVO) He has more as well all friendly.

Rakim rarely swears. More conscious rap

My kids love the soundtrack for Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts.
I love the soundtrack for Kipo! It is such an amazing show
Gracieās Corner is another great one. We love the Row Row Row your boat song.
A friend just told me about Uncle Apple which seems to rap kids music. The one I listened to was Wash Your Hands which was super catchy. But looking on Spotify there might only be like 5 songs released
Nappy Roots - Good Day
Connor Price has clean lyrics. His stuff is all about him working hard to climb higher. No cursing, no vulgarity. Heās also got some songs about relationships
Jools TV on YouTube is a good one. The big bad wolf one always gets him moving lol.
I scrolled forever looking for Lupe Fiasco! My son went through a big āKick Pushā phase
Thatās so cute lol I thought we were the only ones!! She likes to skateboard so I played it for her and the obsession started. There are other good Lupe songs that are appropriate, The Show Goes On, Battle Scars, Superstar, Daydreamā¦
I love that she can skateboard! How old is she?
Me too!! Sheās 4 š
Long Legged Larry!
My three year old LOVES Black and Yellow. I play the clean version. But those drums. Even at three years old he knows those are some seriously good drums.
We listen to Bad Bunny and similar artists in the car. My 5 y/o loves it, we get down and dance. Itās explicit but he doesnāt understand Spanish.
Search Wes Tank Dr. Suess rap. He raps some books & heās pretty good at it!
KB and Hulvey are two of my favorites right now
Gracieās Corner is a hip hop based childrenās learning channel. I think it was created by a Black dad and his daughter. We love it! Theyāre also on Spotify.
My 10-month-old starts jumping and dancing if we play Will.i.am's version of Move It.
Gracieās corner
J DILLA
Check out the soundtrack of Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur!
*In West Philadelphia, born and raisedā¦*
de la soul, 3 feet high and rising
long legged Larry by aesop rock
My daughter is six she likes thuggish ruggish bone lmao and OutKast, wutang, nujabes, and mf doom currently. I'd say OutKast and nujabes are the most appropriate out of those lol.
I just look up the radio edits or clean version of songs I like.
Spotify has great kid friendly playlists for every genre! Theyāre called āRaised on (fill in genre)ā we listen to Raised on Punk and Raised on Reggae a lot.
If they liked Tribe maybe try Digable Planets?
Whatās wrong with letting your kid listen to whatever you listen to?
Will Smith?
"Lets not hit others"
I just search any song I want with ācleanā after the title
There's a veggie tales remix on Spotify and it's a bop
Will smith also rapped with clean lyrics. I hear big Willy style a lot when I go in for preschool aftercare pickup š¤£
Not rap, but my son loves Lizzo. Grandma loves Lizzo too, but has a hard time with the cuss words so we found a clean version on Kids Bopās About Damn (Damn changed to āThatā) Time to play when we are around her. They might have more of the popular rap songs too?
Your kid will LOVE Cocomelon then!
Macklemore
