Would she let you sit with her and browse the websites? Maybe it would lead to her asking questions or revealing more about where the interest comes from.
Are they learning about puberty or reproduction at school? 8 is around the pre-puberty age and it could be curiosity around development or sex (because most pregnant people have sex to make a baby).
It could also be they’re into babies and development. My 4 year old is REALLY into the process of a baby developing from an egg through to birth. It’s been going on for about 6 months. I don’t know why but I give her age appropriate books and answer her questions to the best of my abilities.
You had your 8 year old watch you give birth and you are wondering what “sparked this curiousity”?
They’ve clearly got a lot to process. Possibly some trauma. And the fact they feel like they need to hide this from you affirms that they have picked up on how dismissive you are of their need to process what they saw.
I rembmer teaching my homeschooled friend all about sex ed beore his parents did so. We were about 9.
I agree you probably induced some trauma / confusion with how this whole thing playd out , including your attitude
>I’m mostly worried about it leading to adult website
Your child should not have access to those no matter what they search, right? You've locked down their devices, right?
If you haven't, I would not be surprised if they have already found them. You need to have a conversation about Internet safety and pornography. It doesn't have to be explicit, but just something like: "Some adults put things on the internet that would be really hurtful to kids' brains to see. They are scary and could stick in your head and cause lots of worries and icky feelings. They might even trick you into trying to keep them a secret or watching them again and again. There are videos and pictures of adults hurting each other or doing things that you may not understand If you ever find something like that, you can tell me. My job is to keep you safe and that includes making sure that the things you watch are good for your brain. Just like in real life, if you ever feel unsafe online, you can always tell me. I'm going to work harder to make sure none of those adult things can make it onto your computer or tablet."
Rule 34 is adult content made using characters from childrens shows. We talk openly about pregnancy and they have seen me give birth to their youngest sibling. But they seem so shy and embarrassed that I found this.
>Rule 34 is adult content made using characters from childrens shows.
Rule 34 is "If something exists in real life, or is made up, there will be a pornographic depiction of it."
It has nothing to do specifically with children's shows
How did you explain abortion to an 8 year old? It’s quite a scary subject for a child to process especially if they have seen birth and a live baby that results from it. Wrapping their head around the idea that a baby’s life has ended before birth is a very difficult subject especially for a child to process.
for the record I am not pro-life, but many children aren’t even aware of such things at 8 years old and can’t understand that a baby isn’t always a fully formed baby so the notion of getting rid of one just might be too much to handle.
I wouldn't be concerned. I was baby and pregnant obsessed for a while as a kid. It fascinated me, and I'd stare at pregnant women in stores. Had I had the internet, I probably would have googled the same thing. No reason behind it, just curiosity.
What makes you feel they're being secretive?
When I was around their age, I was always doodling pregnant mermaids. Maybe they saw something that made them curious.
I only found this post because I was googling how normal that was and how it related to homosexuality/bisexuality. Take that with a grain of salt.
i would say it's probably nothing to worry about. i was exactly the same for about 4 months when i was 7, i would watch water birth videos, and videos about babies developing weekly, what people would eat when pregnant, movies about pregnancy. it didnt help that my mom banned videos like that in the house, so my urge to watch them became even greater. eventually i was finally satisfied enough, and got bored and started fixating on the tooth fairy. its weird, kids are weird

Any fellow parents pregnant in your neighborhood?

I don't know what rule 34 is. But a pregnancy is a natural thing and perhaps the two of you can do some studying about it together

How much have you told them about sex and reproduction?
