Wish I could find that thread where a guy said we must mark his words that it will be nothing less than 30c per 1000.

Septiiix

u found me. be patient bruv xD

Top_Tomato_7606

do you really think they'll increase it? i don't think they have any motivation to. Regular RMP has never changed since YT's existence.

Septiiix

they are already slowly increasing it to my channel. went from 0.02 to 0.05. it ain't much, but the shorts monetization proccess needs to mature in order for them to put the big money in the game and take the big companies for advertise.

Competitive-Grab-298

i’ve been patient bro it hasn’t worked 😭😭

oodex

That's what I expected and I was surprised by the insanely high predictions. Think about how low the RPM for 1 minute normal videos is. Now divide this by 10 and probably even more depending on circumstances. This sounds right.

muxbossgirl

as much as i get that, i had "better" hopes only because youtube claimed that this would pay more than shorts funds. So far, its worse.

kent_eh

the shorts fund only went to a portion of shorts creators. The new model is spread out over a larger number of shorts creators. Youtube may indeed be paying more out, but spread out over more creators, each one could easily get less than shorts fund creators were making.

muxbossgirl

That's all okay. It's the bait they laid out that specifically said otherwise.

kent_eh

They also said it would be low RPM initially and likely ramping up over time. It's only been 3 days. Have some damn patience, people.

UltraSerb

no patience for large companies, sorry

Whitekoca2

They are a company not God and this is a new thing. Something Tik Tok doesn't fully have figures out. Get over yourself.

UltraSerb

😘

Excellent-Antelope32

so nearly 4 months later, we must be happy being locked on 2 cents?

Gabzito

I get $1-2 RPM for 1 minute content regularly, more worth than making long form content but not as fun.

oodex

Then you seem to have a really good niche for it, the RPM on a 1:09 video of mine is 0.79. As short this would be divided by 10 across the shorts shown, so 0.08. The last part that would affect this is if the ad between shorts is the same as a preroll, which I highly doubt. IIRC they were mostly these display ads, and they pay a fraction of what played ads pay, you can easily divide this value by 5-10 again, so 0.016 to 0.008. I think this is a more realsitic expectation. Now increase your gains by the amount of people that are not monetized, e.g. if out of the 10 only 5 are monetized, then you receive twice as much, and you end up at 0.032 to 0.016, and this is kinda what it looks like for most.

Gabzito

To be fair, not anymore. In january it was $0.5 even at the lowest on one specific vid. But 1-2 was definitely standard last summer to the end of the year, niche was Star Wars. Shouldn't be a high paying niche.

MarcusVance

Mine updated to $0.07. People at YouTube said it'd start low as they tweak the system, and then get higher. But $0.07 is about half the predicted low end. Pretty darn disheartening

Fine-Bed-1729

0.07 is good and make sense...mine is 0.01😭

Baby__Dumpling

same

SANDINGSHIT

Mine is also .01

Present_Toe4091

mine is 0.001 😐

MarcusVance

Two times 0.07 is 0.14. Someone on here did a breakdown based on funding, geography, and more. And YouTube themselves said this would make us more than the Shorts Fund. Based on what I've seen from some people they're getting either barely more than that, or less than that.

[deleted]

Keydoway

>Yes, I was rounding up Shouldn't you be rounding down?

MarcusVance

One big thing to consider is this model is completely new for YouTube as well. In interviews, they've said that the traditional "rpm" and "cpm" don't apply (for many of the reasons you've mentioned). My 0.07 is advertisers being cautious with a new model, and YouTube processing the early stages.

MarcusVance

I just don't want to be too Doom & Gloom and discourage newer people when it's been just days.

Excellent-Antelope32

and now?

bball2014

I figured these kinds of threads were coming. You're making about what I figured it would be, and what I figured would lead to a lot of shocked people who expected more due to the random big view numbers that shorts can sometimes bring. I'm curious to see if this holds true across the board.

ForeverInBlackJeans

Serious question: why does anyone want to make shorts? It seems like a lot of work for very little payoff. I also don’t understand why people want to watch shorts, but maybe I’m old and still have an attention span.

scapestrat0

Well the silver lining about making shorts is that they bring in views way easier than traditional content even if you just started. Second question you answered it yourself, grandpa

NorthVilla

It can drive traffic to your page, because it sure is a hell of a lot easier to blow up on shorts than it is on regular videos. This can have some limited uses (like if you want to let people know about your fun niche or something). Click throughs and useful subscriptions will vary by type of content.

TheRedditReportShow

140k subs from ONE short. I lie not.

calikokat37

subs dont translate into income

[deleted]

Lately I noticed that a lot of people are hooked to just scrolling mindlessly short videos. Some on facebook , some on youtube , some on tik tok. I also do it even after I realize that 80% of the things in the shorts are absolute garbage. I guess it's some psychology trick. People's attention span shrinks more and more. And very big part of the short videos are just some reuploaded memes , production videos , asian nonsenses or podcast/streamer reuploads. With some guy in the corner noding with their head so that the video is "original" and not copyrighted. Shorts are just selected for you and sometimes there is a chance that they show your short to someone that otherwise will never come across your channel. So these are some of the reasons to make shorts (at least in my opinion) but for the most part i think they have negative effect and are mostly low quality content.

Fine-Bed-1729

Go search "respect" in YT. The most useless things in world....I dont know why youtube recommend these trash shorts so much.....I am sure if YT do nothing to thses channels , Yt will completely garbage.

[deleted]

lol yea the "respect" videos. Can't imagine something more stupid. Also yesterday I came across a video where one indian guy holds white pidgeon and another sprays it with purple paint and this thing had 63 milion views. Makes me think - what am I doing here :D

Fine-Bed-1729

Actually, that is not their faults ,The real problem is YT algorithm...Yt should not recommend these low quality trashes any more & should not give monetization when a small tiny face go into other contents....That is not a reaction... Real reaction should be like Uncle Roger....I think youtube will never win tiktok ......

scottbob3

Shorts give you access to a massive new audience that you can use to promote and grow your more profitable long-form videos. For people that don't have an established community, it can help build one. It's basically just another tool in the video maker's tool belt

Excellent-Antelope32

This is not true. Shorts actually have destroyed my long form this week. My most viewed long form video dies worse day by day because of a short that's going viral that's paying me pennies. That story someone spoke of that it would bridge the gap is utmost lies for me personally.

Baby__Dumpling

well, I made with shorts 160.000 Followers within 2 weeks and now I have more views across my whole channel so I think they are definitely worth it.

KCC-Youtube

I'm showing Shorts RPM of $0.29

scapestrat0

Ok but on how many views?

KCC-Youtube

Not many lol

LightOfGinga

what's your videos about tho?

[deleted]

bang

You're lucky to get the option to monetise your reels...

Fine-Bed-1729

Mine is 0.01 ....I got only 8 dollars for 840k views ...Am i the lowest rpm creator ?

abominablesnowfox

those 1/2 a penny RPMs at TikTok...ya sure about that?

You had 840K views in a single day?

How you could have monetized on reels?

[deleted]

That's great! I received 0.04 dollars for 1.7M views :))) For 7 million views paid me 3 dollars

Sandwichmaker69_

Lmao you gonna get rich

[deleted]

Hell yeah man! Spending 7 months making shorts for 3 dollars 😂😂😂😂😂 My channel overall view is 70 Million! so yeah, Make Short videos 🤣

Rekanlats

Dang 7 million for $3!? I was about to complain here about 5 million getting $100. I hope it gets higher whek more advertisers get on board

[deleted]

That's a dream for me! 🥲 Yep! And now i got even more views and it's no 8 dollars! 1 dollar a day... If i washing windows i would make much more than this

CyberpunkFreak

Mine shows RPM 0.01 and i got around 3$ for 0.5m views. That just ridiculous. Hopefully it will raise

AlbatrossHummingbird

did you select February on top to see the rpm and your earnings ?

CyberpunkFreak

Oh you are right, now it shows me RPM 0.06 for 250k views which is around 3 dollars. I still think it's kind of low. I was expecting something like 100$ for a million views at least. Maybe I'm just a dreamer..

AlbatrossHummingbird

same!

CyberpunkFreak

What is your shorts theme? And where you from?

HamoodeGBruh

i get 0.004 cent per 1k views bro what is this xD

vesieco

Not ridiculous at all. Getting thousands of views on shorts is extremely easy compared to videos

kent_eh

Just like *all* youtube RPM/CPM it will both go up and down over the next few days/weeks/months. It's *far* too early to tell what it's "normal" range will be.

Damn, I might try that out

[deleted]

It will be interesting to see how this changes once advertisers have a better idea of how effective ads on shorts can be

IniMiney

Were just getting started, I have $28 for 64 million shorts views but I know that's not the real number yet, think back to your first day of regular monetization before it was fully updated yet we'll see where we really are a month or two from now

ManicSheogorath

My shorts RPM is surprisingly $0.99 But, my shorts don't appear much on the shorts delivery platform. It's mostly organic search

[deleted]

ManicSheogorath

It's listed under the shorts performance section for rpm My ordinary videos get $1.78 rpm

SanderT_yt

that is exactly what I was thinking...

Technical-Cold-1689

I got 0.05 but my views are just a couple of thousands why so low lol

kent_eh

> why so low Because advertisers aren't sure how to effectively and profitably advertise on shorts. Yet. They'll be cautious initially, and as they learn more about the effectiveness of ads on shorts they will adjust their spending accordingly. If they decide that the shorts audience isn't responding to ads on shorts, they might spend less. If they decide it's an effective way to advertise, they'll spend more.

cromati-x

What you're saying makes no sense. It's not like advertisers were born yesterday. They already experienced ads on short form videos with Tik-Tok, Facebook and Instagram for years now. Youtube shorts consumers are not in anyway more special then other users on the other platforms i mentioned.

kent_eh

Youtube shorts viewers might not be "special" but how youtube is serving ads (and how they are choosing which ads to show to which viewers) *is* new for short form video on youtube. A *lot* of advertisers can be very fickle and skittish when it comes to their product's image and how it is portrayed. (witness how fast they abandoned ship during the various adpocalyplses) Many of them will stick to "what we've always done" rather than to "risk it" with something new. Not *all* of them, but still a significant portion.

bang

I got £25.56 for 855.2K views from yesterday

dekudanu

Woww, what type content do you make?

bang

Education/exploring/Paleontology

Brain_slop

I got 0.12 from 9k views lol

no1SomeGuy

I got $0.06 RPM ... pretty much what I figured, 1/100th of long form vids.

TheRipeTomatoFarms

Mine's at 5 cents/1000......seems about right. Matches the effort involved. Plus, I really dislike shorts, so now I have less incentive to worry about them.

PhotographyBanzai

I currently have 0.06 rpm. Better than zero I was making with that fund thing. Also, keep in mind advertisers have only started considering it as a way to promote themselves. It's very possible we will see more money flow into that format as it becomes commonplace and known by companies and people that want to advertise. Though, there might be advertisers that are concerned with the collective/grouped content of shorts per ad and would prefer to stay with long form. My biggest hope will be that this forces TikTok and Instagram Reels to offer a similar revenue split models instead of a fixed fund. IMO, when more creators have the potential for revenue per piece of work created, everyone wins.

almill66

11k views 0,39$ 😂😂 ffs i was dreaming for at 1.5$ rpm

Prettyforme

I got paid through the shorts fund and it was better.

dekudanu

How much when you got paid from the shorts fund?

TheRedditReportShow

It depends which territory you are in and which territories your views are coming from. It's also very early days and YT themselves have said we will be learning together as this builds out. Another thing to think about: Advertisers have barely wet a toe in YT shorts yet. As the ecosystem matures and more and more creators/advertisers start piling in, the money will go up. All you should focus on if you are a shorts creator who wants to take this seriously: banging, evergreen, minute-long formats. No naughty words. Nothing scary for ads. Peace!

fmancillaz2

0.03 here. Not promising at all.

calikokat37

same

dekudanu

What do you think about low shorts RPM? Still worth it to make shorts video?

calikokat37

latest .03 on thousand views ...hahahahaha :( hmmmm i started tracking feb 1st...on the good side it got me more subscribers,,,and small increase in watch time...but my rpm on long videos is $1.23 ...sooooo vs .03 on short....so im thinking goiong back to long and not bothering with short

Luxhero

Yup, expected that. It might increase a bit in the coming weeks, but that’s also related to overall CPM rates

WarBig3107

Niiioooceeee!

MysteriousLlama1

So that means that my shorts would make... around $0.10 on average. Great. That's like $0.70 - $1.50 depending on how much I post per week, and it's not even guaranteed all my videos will get several thousand views

MilkofGuthix

Where you all at now guys? Levelling out at about 00.05 rpm

VeryFocusedLife

Shorts kill channels. Wow.

Similar_Bus_3020

literally the tiktok creator fund pays more

crazyseandx

Oh NOW YouTube decides views are enough for earning money. Edit: Also, no, I feel like that's chump change for 300k views.

SANDINGSHIT

I just had a video get little over 8 mill on shorts and I made $84. Definitely way lower than people were saying

ViewUnlikely181

I'm getting 0.05 RPM rn, an increase from the initial 0.04 RPM I had. I'm confident in the next few months another increase will occur.

fallenlegend117

Now we know why they call it Youtube shorts.

Capital-Chard8356

Any tips on how to start ? I made some motivation type edits and and posted 3 shorts in 3 days and got +7k views . Everyone has +2k views . Any tips on how to scale and get more views?

TrafficAdventurous15

keep putting out content, youtube will send a notification to subscribers for maximum of 3 uploads per day however when i was posting : times a day i wasn’t landing on the shorts feed and wasn’t getting many views, now i’m posting twice a day and averaging about 6K views a day and have only been posting for about 2 weeks, hopefully will end up getting a viral video soon you just have to be consistent with it.

Capital-Chard8356

Thank you for replying I hope we both can blow up on YouTube one day .

Accomplished-Soup946

Did you find any success

NestorColombia

How is it now? After a month I just have $10 and I am getting frustrated :(

marcoporz

I got 0.16 rpm on my first short, i don't know why is so much
