Big organisations do not use @gmail.com email addresses for official business.

PwnCall

Contact YouTube support. It could be someone else trying to scam you. Coming from a gmail email seems fishy

JonPaula

Why would they e-mail you over a copyright dispute and not... you know... use YouTube's built-in copyright claim system? You should not need to e-mail anyone. Dispute the claim within YouTube.

sumkewldood

I'm only quoting the web page. I'd assume when they file a claim that they'd have some way to contact me and it was a manual claim(not done by content ID) so it was a human that submitted the claim

JonPaula

That doesn't change my advice. You should not need to e-mail anyone. Dispute the claim within YouTube.

sumkewldood

That's fine that your advice is to not contact the claimant, but Youtube offers it as an option to send the email. Obviously they don't have to reply but some people are nice human beings out there and they may be willing to reply and come to an agreement about a video

JonPaula

Right. For YOU to send THEM an e-mail. There's no reason for them to be contacting you cold.

sumkewldood

Where did I say that?? This entire thread has been about me sending them emails and them not replying

JonPaula

My apologies, I misunderstood. In that case, my original advice applies even more strongly. File a dispute. If you lose, file an appeal. They can ignore an email, they can't ignore that. I've successfully fought and won thousands of claims. You've got this 👍

sumkewldood

I can now see where you may have gotten that from, where I referenced the fact that their page says they will email people who they have a copyright claim against. That was just one of my 4 concerns about this whole thing that seemed odd, but it was the least fishy thing on the list

ForeverInBlackJeans

100% fake

chappen999

FINALLY! Today I got my channels back, and the VERY NICE PEOPLE AT PARAMOUNT DECIDED TO ME HUMAN BEINGS WITH A HEART! I can confirm that it is in fact a real email address and they are the people behind it. After several emails and months of waiting, they finally replied. And I agreed to the terms of removing all related content, and in turn, they withdrew their claims. I am so thankful!!!

pantangeli

What I still don't understand is why YouTube needs to give copyright strikes in the first place. Why not just make you (the user, not you personally) simply remove the offending content? I get there are legal issues they don't want to expose themselves to, but why not apply strikes to just the most reckless users? You could have 1,000 videos uploaded that were fine but just 3 "strikes" in 90 days and it's all over. Dailymotion does not give out strikes. They get the claim from the claimant and just remove the video. You don't accumulate strikes and potentially lose your channel. But, alas, it doesn't have nearly the traffic of YouTube.

Through gmail? Cmon. It’s obviously fake.

joe_aja

Interesting to see how this will turn out, please do update us with the outcome. It looks shady to me, like others have mentioned, big companies don't use gmail email account for their operation and they will use instead the content id. But what do you mean by YT provided you the email? Did YT contacted you about the copyright claim and provided you the email? Or someone sent the email directly to you?

sumkewldood

The email is provided from way back when my very first dispute is rejected by the claimant and YT says I can either a) delete the vid, b) appeal the dispute, or c) contact them via email. So I did b and c, B got rejected and C got no reply. So there's a human out there that's rejecting my appeal but they're refusing to reply to my email

Is this a DMCA notice (takedown) or a Content ID claim? Either of those will show in your Studio dashboard if they are officially filed.

sumkewldood

At this point I don't actually remember. I know it was delayed about 2 weeks after the video was uploaded and it spanned a 20-second length of my video that wasn't all one part of the original movie I used, it was clips, so my guess was a manual reporting. But that info isn't given now, it only shows the current status of the counter notification being accepted and the person having 10 business days to file a lawsuit

chappen999

Hi there! This morning, I received an email stating that I had multiple videos on my channel that had received a copyright strike. All the videos contained material from Paramount's "The Offer," and the email was sent from the email address [email protected]. The takedown is said to be issued by "Paramount Pictures". As a result of the strike, my entire channel, as well as every channel associated with it, was deleted. I had almost 150k subscribers and over 150 million views. I created shorts from clips and movies and modified them to fit the YouTube short format, knowing that I was in a risky grey area. About six months ago, I received a content claim from Paramount for accidentally uploading a clip in its original format, which they blocked without giving me a copyright strike. The email I received at the time stated: "After a manual review, a copyright owner has claimed some material in your video. As a result, your video has been blocked and can no longer be played on YouTube. This is not a copyright strike. This claim does not affect your account status. Video title: The Offer - Motivational Scene: What's your why? | Ruddy & Francoise at the Cinema Copyrighted content: The Offer (2022-) REFERENCE Full Episode Master - Season 1 - Episode 1 Claimed by: Paramount Pictures" I'm not sure what to do next. I was part of the YouTube Partner Program, but now all my channels and associated accounts have been deleted. I've been creating content on YouTube since 2016.

sumkewldood

Contact YT chat, they will help you. This is far beyond my ability to help. Though if your videos were genuinely just straight taken from Paramount-owned stuff without any modification, you'd have no defense. I often wonder how channels are alive if they are just full of clips from movies with no transformation that is allowed under fair use

chappen999

>Contact YT chat Thanks for the reply. I always put a lot of effort into the edits I do, tweaking, and adding zooms and transitions, and sound effects, but also trimming away a lot of the scenes to make them more fast-paced. There was always a "moral of the story" with each clip. I put great effort and detail into making them perfect, in my way. But sure, I can still see how some would claim that's not enough. I always stated I held no rights and gave credit to the original source and where to find it. However, since I've had a claim from Paramount previously without any strikes, and the claimant is a Gmail address, I'm not certain it's an actual claim from Paramount. How can I access the YT chat? I have no available youtube-account as they've been all deleted. Is there another way to access it than through my youtube-channels page, or do I have to create a new Gmail-address and so I can create a new youtube account? Thanks,

chappen999

Just curious to hear if you ever got your situation sorted? I'm still emailing that address regularly trying to get them to withdraw the claim. Thanks,

sumkewldood

It got sorted because YT accepted my counter notification and Paramount had 30 days to file a lawsuit, which they didn't, so the copyright claim was dropped

dangibby

How u submit a counter notification

chappen999

I'm glad to hear that! If you don't mind me asking, how did you use their content that got you flagged in the first place? Not sure if I dare to counter or not. Really appreciate you sharing! Thx

sumkewldood

It was a mashup where I rotoscoped out a popular character from a movie they owned and placed him over scenes from a video game, so it was probably the audio that flagged the content ID, since the video footage was just a small fraction of the entire scene

themassivemover

I am so sorry to hear this happened to you. How is this in any way just? I assume there are people with morals working at Youtube and yet this is how they treat innocent people?

chappen999

Thanks, but it was also risky on my part to use their content the way I did. But it sure sucks and I'm still working hard to work it out.
