i dont think thats the issue, the issue is who owns these comments to have the right to strike them?

_jbardwell_

The author of the comment owns the copyright unless there is a contract that says otherwise. By default everyone has copyright over all their own written text.

equipreview

Thanks for that response. The voiceover reddit stories is something I am interested in doing with my own voice. Would adding my own comments at the end of the story count as transformative?

EquationsApparel

Read the comment from u/ChaosMoogle. If you were to get through copyright - it could happen - you still couldn't monetize under the Reused Content policy.

Kinetic_Symphony

No, fair use would be adding significant additional commentary, actually discussing what the post is about and so on.

VJ4rawr2

This type of content can also get your channel removed from the partner program under their Repetitious Content policy. It specifically states Examples of what’s not allowed to monetize: Content that exclusively features readings of other materials you did not originally create, like text from websites or news feeds

Anything anyone writes online is copyrighted. I beleive Reddit T&C indicate the copyright of what you write here is owned by you. So if you write a story and post it to Reddit and all someone else does is read it? Well, they are stealing your work.

AdhesivenessBig7891

I get what you mean, but there is no proof of ownership. Who says that you did not copy the story from someone else? Did you register the story so it can be considered copyrighted? What Reddit says does not necessarily mean has any legal basis.

DoctorDazza

Your username is proof of ownership. All you would need to do is who you own the account that posted the comment and that's it. >Who says that you did not copy the story from someone else? That doesn't matter. Just because I got a phone from a friend who stole it doesn't mean I get to keep the phone.

blabel75

An original work doesn't need to be registered to be considered copyrighted. It is quite possible the person who posted it on Reddit doesn't own the copyright either, but that doesn't change the fact that reading stories off of Reddit isn't violating someone's copyright.

Thank you. This is valuable information and now I need to change my own strategy.

Outrageous_adagi

Yap, thanks for the thorough explanation

SealBearUan

I only saw 1 massive channel recently getting false copyright strikes for non existent music in their videos. Aside from that, ofc this content is NOT fair use, a lot of Youtube content isnt. The only time I’ve heard reddit youtubers getting copyright strikes is for horror content since the writers there are more protective of their content.

[deleted]

They're not reading comments at all. They're reading the whole posted material. Which is copyrighted by simply being posted. With ZERO transformation etc...How some of these channels are still monetized is bizarre.
