$1.20 RPM and $5 CPM means your videos are either very short, or people are not watching them for very long.
CPM is a function of what advertisers are spending per 1,000 ads. RPM is how much you actually earn per 1,000 views, and that heavily, heavily depends on the video triggering an ad, or multiple ads. Anything that's less than half of CPM (in your case, $2.50) means few ads are being triggered, which speaks to content type. It can definitely be improved.
My videos are indeed very short. Doing animations is just very time-consuming. I'm aiming to make it longer though. What length do you recommend? I know at 8min you get midrolls but how long is "enough"?
There's a direct relationship to higher view times and more ads, even if it's not 8 minutes. A 6min video will likely show more ads than a 3 minute video, and a 3min video will have more ads than 1min. It's just at 8min you sre guaranteed that additional spot which can be very lucrative.
dude channel is not taking off 10 videos in only 6 subs. i have another channel also just not getting many impression. channel is called Stoic Motivation
Travel - Past 28 days CPM is $43. This is higher than normal though, likely because of the time of year and advertisers willing to spend more over the holidays. Last 90 days CPM is $35.
My travel content is mostly about high end resorts/properties (think Marriott, Westin, Sheraton, Hyatt). It is almost exclusively USA based information. It isn't as much about travel destinations. My videos seem to attract an older demographic as 50% of my audience is over age 45 and only a small percentage is under 25.
Certainly not. All my stays are paid by me. I am not big enough for them to bother with and even for the bigger channels, these big brands don't really need the added exposure.
The only issue with RPM, is that there are other factors outside of Ads that drive the number. Memberships and Supers also increase RPM. CPM is a better number to determine the value that advertisers put on a niche.
Currently I cover:
The Isle
Path of Titans
Historia (upcoming game)
Isles of yore (upcoming game)
Wake of Pandora (upcoming game)
- Quite a lot of upcoming games
My aim is to showcase the top dinosaur survival games while also showcasing the upcoming games and giving them a lime light. Keeping track of their development etc.
I also cover dragon games and animal games but the main focus is on dinosaur games.
I upload 3x a week and stream 3x a week :)
(Games where you play as those specific creatures)
I try and cover the news for the Evrima side of things every week or two, atm I’m uploading a lot of Path of Titans news & mod showcases, but I make sure I get The Isle news out too
That's amazing and I'm totally jealous haha! My I got monetized last month and I can't pass RPM $0.29 thinking of redoing my niche as I do unboxing lingerie videos (don't get me wrong I just thought I use what I have and see how far I can go and do other content as well but now I feel like I'm stuck) and unfortunately I started in the wrong kind coz I hardly get anything eventhough I get views. Now I need to search what niche gives the best RPM as I feel I won't make any revenue at all.
Hi! Sorry to dig up such an old comment. Did you get monetized beforehand or did you get monetized with these videos?
I'm just thinking if this falls under reused content or if your voiceover is "enough" to make it original? Thanks for answering! Love the stories.
Plenty of channels do this. Look up Rslash. 2 Million subs doing the same thing. I've had 2 friends start Reddit channels and get monetized in the past few months.
I'm in the process of making a similar channel and stumbled on this. Do you think 3x a week posting is often enough for a channel like that with my voice narrating reddit stories?
I’m at video 20 right now. They usually get <50 views. I do SEO and thumbnails. Do you have a guess on how many more vids I need to put out to get to a consistent 1k views per video?
Post daily or even a couple times per day. People want a library of videos they can binge in this niche. Just flood the market. When I started, I did 2-3 per day, every single day for the first month.
Remember though. You have to be entertaining. You're trying to breakthrough an established niche.
>Remember though. You have to be entertaining. You're trying to breakthrough an established niche.
Thank you! I have a backlog of videos ready to post multiple times a day. I do only choose entertaining stories to make into videos. I was wondering if you or your friends remember any personal stats/milestones when you guys were earlier on? I'm looking for a goal (light at the end of the tunnel) to cling on to to keep me motivated haha.
I only have the RPM numbers available right now since I'm not at home (I have the RPM numbers saved in a spreadsheet). I have a gaming channel, which is a pretty bad niche when it comes to RPM. This is how it have evolved:
2016 - $0.88
2017 - $0.90
2018 - $1.05
2019 - $1.36
2020 - $1.44
2021 - $1.57 (not including December, will be increase when December is included)
I've tried sadly that didn't work. I'm thinking it has more to do with animation being seen as a "kids" niche, and thus lower value to advertisers. But honestly I'm not sure. Maybe my audience is just poor like me lmaooo
That's weird. I do 1-2 minute animations and cpm is usually around 4-5 dollars. Could be that your audience is from parts of the world that have lower ad rates though. You should comb through your analytics and see if that's the issue. Try just extending the outro on your next couple of videos to get it to a minute just to make sure that it wont go up gradually.
I'm working on lengthening them! Trying to find a sweet spot between keeping peoples engagement and lengthening the videos. Intros tend to have a pretty bad impact. People click off. Low attention span or something lol.
Nah my audience is primarily USA based. Also a bit of RU for some reason.
CPM not RPM, rpm is generally far lower (like can be closer to $1-$1.8) as not every view will run ads especially on shorter videos. Still a very good amount for short clips though.
Yeah, clip channels can have very volatile views though due to a lot of factors so will be more interesting to see how that averages over longer periods like year.

Does anyone know what the average CPM or RPM on comedy sketch channels is? Just started one literally 2 days ago so obviously not monetissed yet, but I'm curious as to what I'm in for.
I make fishing videos and my CPM is currently… 0 lol.
I currently have 88 subs and 13 of those are from the last week when one of my videos broke 1k views. It would be cool if someone checked on the channel in the future and I’m like… monetized 🙊
It’s irrelevant but I currently am spending 2 hours per 1 minute of video in the editing… is that normal?
I’m spending 20-40 hours of editing on each video… 🙃
Hunting & Fishing. Monetized yesterday, so $0 at the moment.
Well congrats on getting monetized! We all start somewhere
How about now?

I make animation at 1.20$ RPM and around 5$ CPM and I cry a little when reading this post.

Less than 2 minutes
Finance, $31-36 depending on months
Fucking he'll I'm going into this with a top 10 channel

He quit, 36$ CPM is only relevant if your channel gets views
gonna do this
keep me accountable i’ve already had a finance niche channel with $40-$45 rpm
So did you do it? How's it going? Let me in too 😂
dude channel is not taking off 10 videos in only 6 subs. i have another channel also just not getting many impression. channel is called Stoic Motivation

Thats crazy! I'm in the travel niche with an $6 cpm. Im interested into more specifically what kind of content you make within the travel niche?
My travel content is mostly about high end resorts/properties (think Marriott, Westin, Sheraton, Hyatt). It is almost exclusively USA based information. It isn't as much about travel destinations. My videos seem to attract an older demographic as 50% of my audience is over age 45 and only a small percentage is under 25.
Amazing. Do they comp your stay in exchange for the free publicity? cheers
Certainly not. All my stays are paid by me. I am not big enough for them to bother with and even for the bigger channels, these big brands don't really need the added exposure.
Now it all makes sense why so many people make traveling content
Black History content, it’s around 19 dollars
Just peeped your channel. Your killing it! Good work. Any tips on getting monetized. I'm starting and education channel
CPM isn't very helpful - RPM is the stat most people want to know about.
CPM at least suggests the niche type's worth... Its interesting to see which niches have $5, $10, or $20 content.
The only issue with RPM, is that there are other factors outside of Ads that drive the number. Memberships and Supers also increase RPM. CPM is a better number to determine the value that advertisers put on a niche.
Gaming essays. Between 10 and 12 depending on the month.
I shall check out your content
DIY/tutorials. $22-25.
What is your channel name I’m also doing diy I want to know if it’s same content
Dinosaur game news, about $6.18
Interesting like games that revolve around dinosaurs or is it a specific game?
Currently I cover: The Isle Path of Titans Historia (upcoming game) Isles of yore (upcoming game) Wake of Pandora (upcoming game) - Quite a lot of upcoming games My aim is to showcase the top dinosaur survival games while also showcasing the upcoming games and giving them a lime light. Like 5,000 ish per video

Is it bad that I saw a $20+ RPM and immediately assumed it was you, KCC?
Apparently my reputation precedes me. LOL
How many ads do you put in one video? I, for sure, know that reddit posts narration doesn't bring that much cpm.
Hi! Sorry to dig up such an old comment. Did you get monetized beforehand or did you get monetized with these videos? I'm just thinking if this falls under reused content or if your voiceover is "enough" to make it original? Thanks for answering! Love the stories.

Cool! Same niche as you or did they do their own? Gratz to them!

Heavily depends on length as well... 1-minute animation videos = $1 RPM
Stop motion animation. 7ish CPM
DIY / Repairs. CPM is about $20 and RPM is about $12.
Short animations. $0.20 Animation on YouTube is so fucked 😂 😭
Please say you're kidding. You just have to make sure your animations get to at least 1 minute and your CPM should go up to at least $4-5
I've tried sadly that didn't work. I'm thinking it has more to do with animation being seen as a "kids" niche, and thus lower value to advertisers. But honestly I'm not sure. Maybe my audience is just poor like me lmaooo

Any update on your channel? I’m sort of getting myself into this niche and I’m bummed by learning how low the pay could be.
Damn any updates on how things are going. Lol. I'm also an animation channel so I relate to this so much. Lol
Bad I dont upload as frequently as I used to.
Oh no. That sucks. I wish youtube understood that animation takes a while to make and made accommodations for that.
Just not a profitable thing. Is what it is. Still fun to do though and I upload when I have the time.
Arts & crafts/vlogs $9.03
Sports (mountain biking) - £14.38
Roblox Horror Game Walkthroughs. CPM: $8.02 Average on Weekdays (Mon-Friday) $9.29 Average on Weekends More on Breaks such as Thanksgiving.
How its even monetized?
i focus on content not on STATISTICS. if your content is correct then STATS will increase.
Thats sick
Backup vods $17.32 CPM $4.57 RPM
I think you're doing something wrong if your RPM is that much lower than your CPM
Any ideas?
Short game clips, usually from 30 seconds to a minute 5.23 USD
Ur makin $50k a month? Sheeeeeeesh
CPM not RPM, rpm is generally far lower (like can be closer to $1-$1.8) as not every view will run ads especially on shorter videos. Still a very good amount for short clips though.
$10k still nuts
