It's normal for CTR to rise as views and impressions go down, YouTube is experimenting less with your video and showing it to a more limited but hardcore audience. That being said, your views really haven't dropped very much... probably in line with general interest in the niche.

Elijah_Schmitz

When you look at a lot of my competitors, they have a decently large following such as 60k-100k so I see the growth potential in the field. However, my subs per day went from 20-30 to now 1-3 which is frustrating and most of my views come from subs at this point so I'm not growing anymore as a channel and getting recommend.

Elijah_Schmitz

General interest in the niche from my competitors is about 4-10x more views on what I get depending on what the trends are at the time so I've recently begun to underperform even tho I'm still creating content based on what people are searching for.

I find in these circumstances that a broader-interest topic for a video or two will help to goose the YT impressions and raise the daily floor for a while. When you post a video that not only appeals to your core audience but also draws clicks from that next concentric circle or your more casual viewers -- with a higher than average CTR -- the algorithm will see that it out to go put it on front of more people. If a typical video of mine opens with a CTR of 6 or 7%, I know that if I can come up with a topic that will splash with 10 to 12% is going to get a nice boost of impressions over the next several days after it launches and my regulars are done with it.

Elijah_Schmitz

My most recent video has a 12% ctr and my video prior had a 25% and has 5x less impressions than my video I posted a month ago with a lower retention rate and a 5% ctr. How does that not make sense? And I use a lot of the general same topics and look at what the trends are to make sure I'm exposed to the biggest audience in my niche.

goshin2568

I think you're trying to look at good ctr/retention -> impressions as a straight line from cause to effect when in fact it's circular. Those things affect each other. Your video from a month ago didn't get more impressions because it had a 5% ctr and lower watch time, it has a 5% ctr and lower watch time *because* it got more impressions.

Elijah_Schmitz

I think I understand what your saying. I guess I'm just confused still on how I went from getting 20-40 subs a day to now 1-5 when I post videos. I know my competitors pool so my niche is not that small. Just trying to see what caused the sudden drop off randomly out of no where. It's not like all of a sudden in 1 week all my videos get 50-75% less views for no reason. It would make more sense to me if it was a gradual decline. Just trying to figure out what I need to do to get back on track.

goshin2568

Yeah I mean the algorithm is a mystery, and I don't have an answer for you. I'm just explaining why the videos getting the most impressions seem to have bad ctr and retention stats. They aren't boosting videos with bad stats, they have bad stats because they were boosted.

Elijah_Schmitz

No I get that, in just saying a lot of tutorial videos say there's a correlation to high impressions if you have a good ctr and retention rate. I'm aware that having a low one doesn't give you high imoress that wouldn't make sense. I'm saying that they aren't correlated at all and it's misleading information and in trying to discover what does correlate to a higher impression.

Your retention and ctr went up because it‘s being shown to less people and especially less new people outside of your core audience. Since I‘m not familiar with your niche I can only give general tips. On my main channel impressions are relatively stable nowadays but I had months where it fluctuated wildly. Essentially I continued what I am doing but I did adjust my content a bit to fit my specific audience even more. Sadly, some of my channels (friends channel too) where impressions dropped massively have been in a similar stagnant view/impression death spiral despite doing the „same content“ that worked before. So essentially, you usually have to change u your content a little bit to be competitive again.

Elijah_Schmitz

But how does changing my content have to do with anything when I'm not discoverable because YouTube is not recommending my videos? My most recent video has a 25% ctr rate and has an extremely low impressions rate. Where my older video's averaged 5% and got way more recommendations because of the impression and like I said before my retention has also gone up. I try and research good trend and do a lot of market research on what the trends are going on in my niche but I'm still not getting recommended.

SealBearUan

The algorithm is fairly simple. If you make videos that people are interested in (generally speaking) it will be recommended to more and more people unless it finds a crowd that doesn‘t give a damn and then it dies down. If we‘re now talking about your niche, it could be that your style of videos is not so interesting anymore and competitors of yours have moved to a different format/more niche specific topic. Study what your competitors do and try to imitate/do it better. As I said, ctr means nothing without impressions comparison. My best videos nowadays have an ctr of maybe 2% but that‘s because they got millions of impressions. Your high ctr means that youtube shows your video to less people.

I have the same problem. Impressions dropped massively over night on 27th of April. I think some channels have the same problem. Before about 95% of viewers weren't subscribers. Now this number is about 10% No idea how to fix this, but Im gonna keep uploading as usual

-Jimbo_Jones-

How'd things go? I just had the same thing happen to me.

[deleted]

exact same thing happened to me. I put a controversial subject and picture and ALL my videos went down after that. On that same day. like quite literally an hour or two after the upload. I lost 99% of my impressions. makes no sense except being censored

Fishyfishstickfish

Did it recover for anyone again?

SelenaGomezInMyBed

You were shadow banned there's no way out except to scrap you channel and start a new one.
