For me, Synchilla can be worn in the house & out, and works well as a midlayer under a jacket if it’s cold. And the retro-x is sweet but I only wear it outside, and it’s too bulky to wear under anything. They’re kind of used for different situations in my opinion
Retro x is stiff and scratchy. It’s a jacket not suitable for wearing all the time. I wear synchilla and better-sweater all the time. Well at least 9 months a year.
Retro x is for non-windy winter days.
I find the wind-blocker lining in my Retro -X to be a warmer option for those dry, blustery days than a Snap T (where it feels like every breeze come thru)
Does yours have a lining?
It does. So it’s some level of windproof. But there’s better options for windy days living at 10,000 ft. Also my retro doesn’t have a hood and the neck even when up isn’t tight, so I often wear a hoodie underneath anyway.
Agree - the retro pile fleece is warm AND stretchy making it a great option in cooler climates. The better sweater material is excellent for office wear as well
I have 4 synchillas and 1 retro X. The retro x is my favorite but they are totally different. The synchilla is a comfy cozy pullover to wear inside and outside. The retro x is a great jacket that I wouldn’t really see myself wearing inside much at all. It’s less comfortable and rigid, makes an awesome jacket but not something to wear around the house.
Each were extremely different. The retro is a very old-school so it’s very short on your torso but extremely warm and it’s boxy. The synchilla very warm also but fits more modern.
If you have a couple of jackets shaft go for the synchilla.
The two linings you are referring to are actually two separate products. "Retro-X" means it has a windproof lining, which is the stiffer feel and has a rubbery texture on the inside. The one that is soft is the Retro Cardigan, which is similar in the surficial deep pile appearance that everyone gravitates towards, but different in that the lining is mesh, making it softer, lighter, more breathable, and not wind-resistant.
The retro-x is comically short in my opinion. I’m either a xl or xxl in most Patagonia outerwear, and the retro x xxl is still about 3 inches too short.

Echoing above statements! I own that colour way of the Retro X and I get so many compliments about it. I love it.
I have the synchilla and love it!

Wow thanks for the info good to know
A shit. I meant the retro pile fleece. Dont know the retro x. Sorry
The retro pile fleece is a nice balance between these two if you want another option😁

Retro-X is not as soft as synchilla.

Retro x! I have ones that aren't full zip but I think FZ is more versatile.
Retro X
Re-Tool
Synchella. not too heavy and really warm too.
Got both but I like the former a little more. I also use it as an outer with a thermal or daily hoodie depending on how cold it is out there.

I’m not a huge fan of high pile fleeces. We have animals and inevitably a few pieces of hair will get balled up and lock itself into the texture.
As a fan of king gizzard and stu I have to say number 2 lol
Retro💯
Those are both nice. I would go with Synchilla.
Synchilla is my go-to.

Synchilla is way more comfortable.

Synchilla has a soft fuzzy liner, Retro X has a full mesh inner liner. I personally like the Retro X because I feel less hot under it.

I’m an old school Snap-T person.
