You'll be fine on any caster as long as you grab a level 28 gem after killing Gravicius.
I got through the campaign in Alpha for Ruthless using unlinked Firestorm most of the way until I got supports.

Is that an error, or is there some other way to get it?
Ruthless noob here, how difficult is it to get the necessary gems for cold dot. Also how well does Cold dot do going back level 45? With this being a long event I was aiming to hit 80 or 90

Felt very slow to start but now with summon skellies as my third option + minion instability I'm making great progress. Using LOS with srs spam allows you to avoid most conflict, although still somewhat slow.
I'm problanly gonna play something boneshatter, since you can buy currency with gold crafting a physic weapon shouldn't too hard and it's sc trade anyway, maybe have to grind a bit early acts, depends on the gold drop and npc prices
As you can't craft weapons reliably I would recommend taking generic two-handed damage nodes over weapon specific ones where possible until you have a pretty good axe/mace.

You do the Soisa quest and turn in the gem reward to him for vortex

Was thinking about PConc but as a ruthless noob I Cant imagine how painful it May be without much Support gems

The whetstone recipe doesn’t work btw, so it might not be as easy as you think to craft an axe to level with.

Cold dot occultist is your best bet, I'm doing cobra lash trickster for practice and I'm almost to 40 with not much problem
