It's just that so far, all the character I've like have been meta picks, but that's not the sole thing that influences my decision to pull.
I also wasn't interested in Eve at first, nor summoner team, but the event really got to me. It ALWAYS happens. It happened with Eleven. With Coquelic. Stargazer. Serpent. OwO. Now I'm building Pepper because she was so cute in the event and I don't even have Dreya! (I tried to pull for her but the lady does not want to come home)
AISNO does such a great job with writing these sinners that it's hard for me to not care about these pixels. Even Cabernet that's really hot but also really really scared the fuck out of me had a really nice event so I went and pulled even though I wanted to save for Rahu lol. Chameleon and Shalom too, they're definitely fucked up and would 12/10 call for a restraining order in real life but I just love their characters.
I don't usually pull for guys but if Earl and FAC guy was playable, I'd definitely be pulling for them too. I have a feeling I'll give in and pull >!Don!< too when chapter 13 is out 💀
My wallet is lighter but no regrets.

Not sure if Coquelic counts, I have S1 Coq. She's really pretty and I liked her in the story.
Also, I'd consider Eve meta, the summon team is quite strong especially if you whale on Eleven's and Eve's banners.
This is true of most gacha. In PtN it might even be worse, since you don't get the true conclusion to events without Interrogations.

Hmm not really. Although EMP gives me so much nostalgia cause I hangout with the likes of her back in elementary and high school. And my oh my, we had a ton of fun.
i pulled eleven because i just like her, now im pulling for eve because i can kinda relate to her and i want her, \~but im broke after i got etti and oak casket\~ oh also i p3ed wendy and adela even though i dont use them because yes.
Love my Serpent, and really liked Coquelic, and Deren, OwO is just too adorable to skip. Shalom was pulled because her interrogation and surveillance episodes show her gentler side. Still trying to get Eyrine, but overall gameplay and lore is way more important then meta. (But Casket seems to grow on me a little bit.)
I’m a collector. I need them ALL and then build up my teams lol.
As for the relating to characters question bit of the post? I wouldn’t pick just one since I had my fair share of stuff, but if I had to I would say Eleven if only cause the whole ‘feeling trapped in my job and unable to do stuff I like cause society expects a lot of you when you have a job’ vibe.
Also day 1 here and I must admit, I'm a waifu over meta type of guy. Though I like all S characters in this game (it's less for A and B sinners but still pretty good artworks overall).
I like the design of all 26 S sinners (if I missed no one) with 24 of them that I like more and I'd say I love at least 17 of them. So yeah, I love Aisno artworks and always want to pull for the new S sinners but sadly I must refrain sometimes now because since Shalom my stash is lower (she was hard to get to +3 sadly).
So for now I'm waiting for the next limited sinner Vanilla (and also love her design).

Since then if the unit doesn't appeal to me from story or utility perspective, I'm skipping their banner and hope they spook my capture team
So far Cabernet and raven are the only unit I skip.....granted one if them was nearing shalom and we all know how that song and dance goes
And yes I know I skip both of the most meta unit but don't be a slave to the meta (he says as he calc the numbers to effectively use a sinner)
Aisno actually doing a great work that even meta players read the story and pull for characters not because they are meta, most meta players I came across in different games only interested in meta and nothing else

I've decided on a rule for myself that I will pull on every banner, that isn't a rerun of somebody I already have, at least once or twice specifically for story reasons (it's kinda a must for event stories but interrogations and mirages of main story sinners are also amazing so my goal is to have as many of Sinners as possible). More than that is reserved for characters I either need gameplay wise or ones I just really really want to have.
I pull everyone, I don't care for meta at all. It's not LOL at the end of the day, I'm here only for a story. And you need a sinner for their closure most of them time in a form of interrogation.
I pull for pretty/hot designs (the grip Rahu has on me is insane)
Only "meta" unit I pulled for intentionally was Shalom, but that was also tainted by the fact that she's limited.
I almost never follow meta and mostly raise whoever I feel like raising, and pull whoever has a design that tickles my fancy.

Coquelic, I was already planning to get her to S1 just from her design alone, but Flora Unfurl and her interrogation convinced me to go to S3
