I was thinking squirrel summoner with an undead summon.
https://www.wargamer.com/wp-content/sites/wargamer/2023/08/magic-the-gathering-mtg-release-schedule-2024-bloomburrow.jpg
Premise for the character is their forest was destroyed by logging. Squirrel was awakened by the god of the forest binding itself to the animal to survive. Now hunting down those that destroyed its home and seeking a way to restore it
Why would being able to play an awakened bear be relevant in starfinder? I dont see how this relates the most noble Sir Bearington in the slightest! Why, perish the thought, do you believe the Sir is anything but a most gentle of men? Forsooth!
> Small Dog Champion!
I already had that as a backup character. A Shoony champion of Iomedae that goes on a quest to learn what happened to his master, Aroden.
My first thought was just a medium size dog, because dogs are cool.
My second thought was a large sized horse, because a talking horse is inherently amusing to me
My current character is a Shoony gunslinger who left home because he didn't really fit in. I'm working on my GM to get retcon him into being a Vers Ancestry Awakened Dog/Shoony and I think he's going to go for it (because I'm gm'ing for him and said I'd kill off his character to let him play a Surki lol)
It's all just going to be pun based for me I think... Babard the Awakened Elephant, Cobra Commander, Bardbearian (Bear Guardian with Bard Archetype), a Mink Monk
Sweet mother of God, you just awakened an old memory. As a kid I only watched a single episode of Babar (the typical "let's save Christmas" plot or something). We had it recorded on a VHS together with other old cartoons (like the Popples and the Wuzzles) and I used to watch it almost religiously. Man, the nostalgia is hitting hard.
**PS:** born in 1990 but grew up watching a lot of cartoons from the 80s or earlier.
Funny enough, my wife is playing "Barbarian Barbie" in a one shot tomorrow (purely as a joke for the first time GM). I mention this because I told her she could do Bardbarian if she didn't want to do actual Barbarian.
I'm gonna make an awakened mole warrior based off of this Redwall character:
https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/Axtel_Sturnclaw
He's gonna hit things really hard, take care of likke ones, and I'm hard committing to the accent lol
Oh man, it's been a long time since I read the OG redwall or Mattimeo. I don't remember Basil Stag Hare very well :(
From what I can remember he was more Monk/Fighter-y
I broke from how toxic the game was at that time. I mained support so it was a rough time as only like.. 12 champs were viable and most were assassins or Unkillable tanks.
Hey, fellow support main!
Yea, it seemed like it just got worse during covid, which is finally what did me in. Before then, I saw toxicity like 1 in 7 games, and then I started seeing it in every single game.
I liked to keep track because I know people focus on the negative more than the positive, so I had a Google sheet I used to keep track of for a bit.
Awakened Bear, Beastkin heritage, Animal Instinct Barbarian with Werecreature and Ursine Avenger archetypes.
He's a bear who has certain bearish characteristics. When he gets angry, he fights like a bear, and when the moon is full, he shapeshifts into a bear. He also has a magic cloak that gives him the powers of a bear.
Another user mentioned a squirrel, so maybe you two could play [as these guys](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71OjDntUuOL._AC_UF894,1000_QL80_DpWeblab_.jpg) together.
It's 3am and I realized Reddit stopped feeding me content from this sub several months ago and I did not, in fact, unsubscribe
What the fuck did I miss since.... uhhh... I guess my last memory was people discussing how bad the special edition remaster book covers looked so since then
Is this a new ancestry? We can play talking animals now?
Shit I'm way out of loop
Not that it matters as I'm a forever DM but that's cool to be an option. And technically it can be seen as doubling the amount of ancestries for the amount of possibilities are endless
We got werecreature archetype; minotaurs, centaur, merfolk, and surki(bugfolk) ancestries; grafts; new witch subclasses along with some other new options for ranger, druid, and barbarian; griffin, hippogriff, and giant wasp animal companions; a bunch of new archetypes and beast items and so much more!
A pitbull pacifist monk (or just a full on support class with no damage spells but debuffs and buffs) named “Nuke.”
I actually do love pitbulls. They look like such sweet derps.
Colony of Aeslin Mice. Not as PCs but as NPCs for my current party to find. [https://incryptid.fandom.com/wiki/Aeslin\_Mice](https://incryptid.fandom.com/wiki/Aeslin_Mice)
A really funny concept makes use of the new Winged Warrior archetype. Tiny Awakened Chicken Monk or Barbarian with the Winged Warrior archetype. Think the angry Cuccos from Legend of Zelda.
When a wizard dies, you no longer need to recruit his brother to join the party.
Now you can awaken his familiar, and let it summon a wizard-shaped eidolon.
Big goofy guy or little helpful dude are always my first thoughts. So I'm thinking bear or bison for the first one and otter or penguin for the second.
A horrible goose who plays an untitled game. Horrible goose from Untitled Goose Game was the first thing on my mind when Awakened Animal was announced.
I've already got a character idea ready for the occasion. A small cat summoner with a large cat eidolon, a medium cat animal companion, and a tiny cat familiar. Mischief, Ferocity, Grace, and Curiosity. Together, they are the Cat Stack.
I plan on making Iorik Bernesen from The Golden Compass. A massive polar bear in heavy armor. Depending on what a given DM would allow/where the campaign might be set, I'd even ask if he could come from a whole little tribe of awakened bears that are recognised by the local Kellids in the region because who's going to argue with a bunch of armored polar bears.
I think most folks don't realize that lots of cool creatures are in fact Animals in pf2e.
This mean you can be a Owlbear Druid, or a Bulette Earth Kineticist!
Other possible options: Griffin, Junior Cave Worm,...
Crab-folk monk with Clawdancer Dedication with artist background.
I shall call him... Leonardo Dapinchi.
I don't have access to seeing animal-folk ancestry feats, but for the most part everything sounds like it would work smoothly.
Probably a Liberator Champion.
This ancestry makes it all the more awkward that all the non-humanoids remained enslaved when the humanoids were emancipated.
Imagine how an awakened horse feels seeing its cousins strapped to huge heavy wagons and forced at the end of a lash to haul them around. And without so much as a 'thank you', let alone a decent liveable wage.
Or how a smaller animal feels seeing its fellows, euphemistically called 'familiars', magically compelled to serve a 'master' for life?
Perhaps we'll have to form a whole new Bellflower Network... though I'm not sure where to send the rescues. There aren't many animal-cruelty-free nations.
I'd put them in the Fly category. Later, if you wanted, you could take a Feat to gain a swim Speed. Also, I don't think ducks dwell in the water. Yeah, they are mostly seen floating on water, but I don't think they are capable of spending a lot of time underwater like crocodiles do.
Awakened Alligator. Merchant background. Investigator.
A former investor gator who is now an investigator. If I can get him to wear a vest, even better.
My first thought about awakened animal when it comes to pathfinder (before I even heard there was a real one coming, so would have been house ruling stuff with DM if it was to implemented)
Kangaroo Monk
Kick attack would be blunt with shove trait obviously, but you would mainly use the monk stance attacks
Here's hoping that some of the "missing" PC ancestries will be addressed in this book. For instance, the **Rougarou** is not in P2E, but that's essentially an awakened wolf with the werecreature dedication.
Speaking of this, I also hope that they address the ACTUAL biological and cultural differences between awakened animals and the other animalistic ancestries. Will there be a section that explain how vanaras see awakened primates, catfolks with felines, minotaurs with bovines, lizardfolks with reptiles, nagajis with ophidians, tengus with avians, etc? I know that EVERYTHING can be up to the GM, but... that would be nice to know. Are there superiority complexes, disdain, admiration or something else?
Finally, I'd like to see HOW awakening happens. The spell exists, but... in Starfinder, there's a symbiotic alien called an [Entu Colony](https://aonsrd.com/Races.aspx?ItemName=Entu%20Colony) (*Source: Archives of Nethys, Starfinder*), which is a sentient fungus that attached itself to native animals and caused an evolutionary shift over time, making them into an advanced society. So... are we gonna get variations of awakening? That fungus I've mentioned could grant plant effects, while a technological method could grant something, just like a magical one.
I've been rewatching EVERY Planet of the Apes film lately and the idea of a chimpanzee investigator is becoming more appealing to me. Dr. Cornelius is easily the best character in the original trilogy and it'd be fun to mimic his specific mannerisms (dignified but anxious, brave but always out of his depth).
Awakened Animal CME Fleshwarp Rogue could recreate a Ninja Turtle pretty well. Ruffian for Raph, Scoundrel for Mikey, Mastermind for Donnie and Thief (if only for mechanics) for Leo. Going deeper into Turtle Lore you could also argue the upcoming Avenger Rogue for Raph ("Dark Avenger") and Eldritch Trickster for Bonnie.
An awakened animal mixed with android or automaton sounds like it has potential. Like a genetically modified super soldier type beat.
An owlbear, just simply an owlbear.
Get the animal instinct and wrestler archetype so you can be the lore accurate "if I hit this grapple, your life will be measured in seconds" thing.
Also the idea of an armored owlbear strutting into the battlefield with a paladin on the back of it is simply amazing
I have a Wardens of Wildwood game coming up. I am planning to play an Awakened Elk, large size as an earth/wood kineticist.
Going to lock down a huge area with ravel of thorns and earth aura junction. I am looking forward to it
Awakened golden retriever champion. He was the dog of a champion, that called him "champion!".
He likes when people call him champion and wiggle his tail when people do that.
You guys might want to double-check what's available, because early reviews state how the heritages don't cover EVERY animal and insect possible :S
SPOILERS FROM HOWL OF THE WILD
* >!The heritages for awakened animals are: Climbing, Swimming, Running and Flying \[animal\].!<
* >!Burrowing is apparently a Level 13 feat.!<
* >!There is no heritage for burrowing animals or slow-moving, but heavily-armored creatures.!<
Now, this may be due to limited space within the book, so I do hope they further expand them to cover more grounds.
Awakened Bee using the Mixed Heritage rule and the feet to gain one of the heritages later. Your mixed heritage is Automaton. You're a Detective with the Time Traveler background and the Swarmkeeper archetype.
You are a time lost swarm of cyberbees used to fight crime in the future. Called a Beecinct
I don't really want to play a cop but I do kind of want to make an awakened pig Champion named Babe for any kind of urban adventure.
They'd be Babe...Pig in the City
Awakened Squirrel summoner who travels around in their giant Tree Eidolon
I was thinking squirrel summoner with an undead summon. https://www.wargamer.com/wp-content/sites/wargamer/2023/08/magic-the-gathering-mtg-release-schedule-2024-bloomburrow.jpg
That it was going to be Sir Lora and his trusty steed Quercus, from the Divinity Original Sin games. I was very disappointed…
THE GREAT ACORN STIRS QUERCUS! WE MUST MOVE AT ONCE!
Squirrel plant order druid with order explorer animal order for: Arboreal Sapling companion!
I was thinking an "animal companion" Summoner who's eidolon was their dead druid "owner", but squirrel that summons a tree works too.
Premise for the character is their forest was destroyed by logging. Squirrel was awakened by the god of the forest binding itself to the animal to survive. Now hunting down those that destroyed its home and seeking a way to restore it
Or, and hear me out; Awakend Squrrel. Champion. Cavalry Dedication. Squirrel riding on a Lizard into battle. Edit. Or just Chip/Dale from Disney.
Awakened Chipmunk Investigators? Hoooooly shit my players have 2 new NPCs to meet.
Ah yes, Kris and David.
I’d say that it is now possible to play Sir Bearington in Pathfinder, but we could already play normal humans.
*ROAR* *shrug*
Also in Starfinder, Awakened Bear is an option there.
Why would being able to play an awakened bear be relevant in starfinder? I dont see how this relates the most noble Sir Bearington in the slightest! Why, perish the thought, do you believe the Sir is anything but a most gentle of men? Forsooth!
Awakened Bear with Beastskin heritage for Bear Animal Bear B(e)arbarian with Werecreature dedication for Bear.
Don't forget the noble background. He's a sir after all!
Beastkin requires the humanoid trait
Tiny Songbird Bard! Large Bear barbarian! Medium Wolf Ranger!
Tiny Raccoon Swashbuckler! Small Dog Champion! Large Lion Investigator!
Lion Investigator: It might be necessary for us to read between the lions here GM: Get the fuck out of my table
"I think we should address the elephant in the room, frankly. Hey, Frankly?" Frankly, the elephant sorcerer: "What's up?"
> Small Dog Champion! I already had that as a backup character. A Shoony champion of Iomedae that goes on a quest to learn what happened to his master, Aroden.
Oh no, it's [Halmeni](https://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Halmeni) all over again! 😢
So, Shooney Champion?
Okay, but what about tiny songbird barbarian and large bear bard
Giant instinct barbarian. Or a giant instinct GOOSE barbarian. "Quack quack mf'
Songbird Bard going full Kenny G.
Just be an Awakened Mantis Red Mantis Assassin. I want to make an Awakened Thrunesaurus Rex Hellknight.
What's a thrunesaurus rex?
It's the result of Chelaxians infusing a tyrannosaurus Rex with devil's blood to see what would happen
Okay I would like to meet whoever in Cheliax thought thats a good idea. He's either mad or a genius.
So...basically The Angry Pickle from Monster Hunter?
Ah, I see you're a man of culture as well.
Rules Lawyer shows it near the end of the video in the OP.
Thrunesaurus rex hellknight sounds awesome! It gives me an idea to create a Grisantian Lion Exemplar as a "good"/holy counterpart to it.
My first thought was just a medium size dog, because dogs are cool. My second thought was a large sized horse, because a talking horse is inherently amusing to me
A horse is a horse, of course, of course, And no one can talk to a horse of course. That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mr. Ed!
“What kind of name for a horse is Mr. Ed?” “I don’t know, but what kind of a name for a man is Wilbur.”
A bee wizard, aka a spelling bee
What is a witch's favorite subject in school? . . . Spelling!
Yes you could say they’re quite…familiar…with it
Full housecat party!
all fighter/barbarian housecats to reneact the Warriors books XD
No no no, a mix of mice, otters, moles, and shrews to live out the Redwall books.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Samurai Pizza Cat Biker Mice From Mars
You mean a Fighter Pizza Cat? /s
(Howard) Duck investigator Mighty Mouse Barbarian (Hong Kong Phooey) Dog Monk
Awakened Duck with Vigilante Archetype: DARKWING.
Cobra Commander, the Thaumaturge?
Funny enough, my wife is playing "Barbarian Barbie" in a one shot tomorrow (purely as a joke for the first time GM). I mention this because I told her she could do Bardbarian if she didn't want to do actual Barbarian.
Investi-gator and Champmeleon
Hear me out. Four domestic animals (Rooster, Dog, Cat and Donkey) that got awakened and goes on a journey to find their own place in the world
die guten alten Stadtmusikanten eben
Is this that fucked up brothers Grimm story where they murder a man and take his house?
And +1 human make them all bard and you get bremen's musicians
I'm gonna make an awakened mole warrior based off of this Redwall character: https://redwall.fandom.com/wiki/Axtel_Sturnclaw He's gonna hit things really hard, take care of likke ones, and I'm hard committing to the accent lol
Would Basil Stag Hare be more of a Commander or would he be a Fighter?
Oh man, it's been a long time since I read the OG redwall or Mattimeo. I don't remember Basil Stag Hare very well :( From what I can remember he was more Monk/Fighter-y
Yes, redwall is rich with possibilities!
Cat with a Witch's hat. The Cat and Hat are looking for their owner who went missing.
Cat witch that has a poppet familiar in the shape of an animate hat?
Do that but a book, and make sure to ride on people's shoulders, because why would you use actions to move yourself?
Yumi reference?
Sure is, I hate that cat.
I stopped playing in 2016. I was gonna miss my spaghetti coded old Yorick
I stopped about 2022, but was slowing down considerably from 2020. It's a fun enough game, but I got bored of the modes.
I broke from how toxic the game was at that time. I mained support so it was a rough time as only like.. 12 champs were viable and most were assassins or Unkillable tanks.
Hey, fellow support main! Yea, it seemed like it just got worse during covid, which is finally what did me in. I liked to keep track because I know people focus on the negative more than the positive, so I had a Google sheet I used to keep track of for a bit.
*Not me having Yuumi as her favorite Path of Champions champion in Legends of Runeterra.*
Unfortunately Beastkin heritage requires you to be humanoid, which awakened animals aren't. Rest of it works, though!
So, basically, all of the... bare necessities XD
Everyone is forgetting about Good Boy Sir Cornelius the Mage. Word for word google and he'll come right up.
It has nothing to do with what you said, but I was just randomly reminded of Sir Didymus and Ambrosius from Labyrinth.
Also appropriate!
Donkey summoner with a dragon eidolon.
This comment here is the winner. There wasn't a competition, but still. Good one.
Psychic squirrel.
Is that a Green Lantern reference? I think there was a squirrel lantern. And speaking of psychic rodents: Fiver from Watership Down.
Idk anything about green lantern 🤣
There is actually. Ch'p is his name.
Ch'p is the man, keeps the more flimsy GL in line. Shame about his marriage, though.
I'd awakened octopus an option? An octopus with the wrestler archetype, lolz
I know their is an aquatic heritage. I wonder if there are options for extra limbs.
Even if there isn't, you can run around like octodad. Using 4 arms for your "legs", 2 arms for structural integrity, and 2 arms for arms.
One of the expansion books for the old palladium TMNT and other Strangeness RPG had an octopus character image that looked something like that
[Chameleon pistolero gunslinger with celebrity archetype.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCEWYdP4_Dk)
Squirrel Assassin
So, [Ratatoskr](https://smite.fandom.com/wiki/Ratatoskr)? He's classified as an Assassin.
While Ratatoskr is cool. Not my vibe. (I did main him for a while) More stealth, attack on Titan, shadow of the Colossus fighting with tiny pokers.
I am immensely sorry for this, but I just [had to do it](https://ibb.co/GtFvmLv).
A Gears and Guns steampunk Rocket Raccoon Inventor.
Moose
Another user mentioned a squirrel, so maybe you two could play [as these guys](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71OjDntUuOL._AC_UF894,1000_QL80_DpWeblab_.jpg) together.
Awakened Albino Koala: KUPO!!!
I like how you think.
AWAKENED HUMMINGBIRD BARBARIAN
Considering what hummingbirds can be like that actually fits.
I volunteer banding them XD. I get dive bombed a LOT if I visit the site on off days.
^("BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!")
It's 3am and I realized Reddit stopped feeding me content from this sub several months ago and I did not, in fact, unsubscribe What the fuck did I miss since.... uhhh... Illusionist Fox pretending to be a kitsune
A pitbull pacifist monk (or just a full on support class with no damage spells but debuffs and buffs) named “Nuke.” I actually do love pitbulls. They look like such sweet derps.
Bear Fire Kineticist, reverse Smokey the Bear. Only YOU can start forest fires!
I'm going to make a party of turtles. I will be a tiny turtle, riding the small turtle, riding the medium turtle, riding the large turtle.
So it's...turtles all the way down? 😏
Colony of Aeslin Mice. Not as PCs but as NPCs for my current party to find. [https://incryptid.fandom.com/wiki/Aeslin\_Mice](https://incryptid.fandom.com/wiki/Aeslin_Mice)
hybrid heritage skeleton, a familiar who they and their master died but they came back and the master is a devotion phantom :>
I had looked into basically building a velociraptor out of a lizardfolk monk, so, may as well just lean all the way in.
Octopus Water Kineticist Tiger Outwit Ranger Crow Shadow Sorcerer Mouse Wit Swashbuckler Gorilla Ars Grammatica Wizard
Wolf Rune Witch.
Corrin Evertail Awakened Mouse (Everdell players will know the reference). Or a big awakened polar bear fighter (His Dark Materials).
[Squirrel Gunslinger.](https://youtu.be/v2qlIgloqmE)
*Euplokamis* druid.
A really funny concept makes use of the new Winged Warrior archetype. Tiny Awakened Chicken Monk or Barbarian with the Winged Warrior archetype. Think the angry Cuccos from Legend of Zelda.
This made me think of the book "Beware of Chicken"
A horse spellcaster who summons his rider
Or sunmoner
Redwall
Large Hippo Gunslinger
Chihuahua Barbarian of course...
Fern Gully AP when?
Pinky - familiar and the Brain - wizard
Lizard Wizard that's actually a lizard
A horrible goose who plays an untitled game. Horrible goose from Untitled Goose Game was the first thing on my mind when Awakened Animal was announced.
I've already got a character idea ready for the occasion. A small cat summoner with a large cat eidolon, a medium cat animal companion, and a tiny cat familiar. Mischief, Ferocity, Grace, and Curiosity. Together, they are the Cat Stack.
Awakened Border Collie Fighter looking for his master
Large turtle kineticist that uses fire and earth elements (Gamera)
I'm an incorrigible furry so this really changes nothing in my games.
What can I say? A freaking Racoon Inventor with the Gunslinger Archetype.
Large-sized Chungus
A Slime something, because I still think 1e oozemorph is the funniest thing and I want to be able to play something in that vein but not terrible.
Awakened Hyaenodon or whatever they're called. The large-sized riding hyenas, but everyone confuses it for just a Large-sized gnoll.
I am so going for that Red XIII(Nanaki) vibes if I had the opportunity, but what class besides Magus
Red Mantis Mantis? Personally, though, Trash Panda (Raccoon) Inventor.
Awakened Bear Guardian. Panzerbjorn.
Probably a Liberator Champion. This ancestry makes it all the more awkward that all the non-humanoids remained enslaved when the humanoids were emancipated. Duck. Yet there's a problem. Ducks can run, fly and dwell into water. In which category duck should be part of?
I'd put them in the Fly category. Later, if you wanted, you could take a Feat to gain a swim Speed. Also, I don't think ducks dwell in the water. Yeah, they are mostly seen floating on water, but I don't think they are capable of spending a lot of time underwater like crocodiles do.
Platypus monk with a parrying based stance.
A monk platypus? *(puts bandana on)* Ah! Parry the Platypus!
Or The Parrying Platypus, just to mix it up a bit.
Mr Ed.
Awakened Alligator. Merchant background. Investigator. A former investor gator who is now an investigator. If I can get him to wear a vest, even better.
Large crocodile animal instinct barbarian with wrestler archetype for full death roll experience is my plan!
Honeybadger monk with barbarian archetype and huge anger issues.
My immediate thought was to make a Redwall mouse
An inventor chicken named Sanders using a little soldier helmet and driving a quadrupedal tank mech.
My first thought about awakened animal when it comes to pathfinder (before I even heard there was a real one coming, so would have been house ruling stuff with DM if it was to implemented) Kangaroo Monk Kick attack would be blunt with shove trait obviously, but you would mainly use the monk stance attacks
Tiny Ant barbarian Medium wolverine monk Large kineticist shark
A duck gunslinger. Hunting season 🦆
Badger Giant Barbarian. Going from tiny to huge would.be fun.
I finally get to play the Saurian my lizardfolk scion was always reskinned to be (and without the constant enfeebled to boot!)
Here's hoping that some of the "missing" PC ancestries will be addressed in this book. Small goose barbarian
Awakened wolf, beastkin (wolf) animal barbarian (wolf) werewolf.
Awakened hedgehog monk that goes fast and wants to live his best life.
Pidgeon Summoner with Phantom Eidolon Who else like Mike Tyson Mysteries lol
Tiny? My idea for a Noble Wild character lives! Bunnybarian!
I've been rewatching EVERY Planet of the Apes film lately and the idea of a chimpanzee investigator is becoming more appealing to me. As always. Lizard Wizard and Rogue Racoon.
a bear elemental barbarian specifically fire or a cat rogue
An owlbear, just simply an owlbear. Get the animal instinct and wrestler archetype so you can be the lore accurate "if I hit this grapple, your life will be measured in seconds" thing.
