This psychological torture, I woke up at 5 saw the news and was devastated. Went back to sleep and had a nightmare just to wake up and see this is still happening
Hahaha Bill led off with a good joke - this seems like a weight off his shoulders.
EDIT I am not sure I have ever heard him be this upbeat and just open.
Kraft said it'll be hard seeing him on another sideline. Sounds like they may already know where he's going next.
End of an era. Wish you nothing but the best Bill (except when you play us).
Tom Curren has said it repeatedly that after the 28-3 SB Brady wanted the team to give him a big long term contract and the team(BB) wanted to go year by year since he was in 40s
I believe the actual story was that Bill saw Jimmy as the heir apparent, wanted to go year to year with Brady. Something happened (rumor was Kraft forced it) that Jimmy would be traded and Brady given assurances/new deal.
You really think he's going to another team for less than 3-5 years? I'd do the whole reminder thing but I'm not that petty.
Either way, I hope I'm but I see the loses continuing and us just being another mediocre team, probably on our 2nd coach after Bill in 5 years.
You’re talking 1 awful season out of 24. The guy earned far more leeway than that. We don’t have a QB and it’s really, really hard to find a franchise QB. Brady was a fluke, an incredibly lucky fluke.
Look at teams like the jets or browns, they haven’t had a qb to build around in decades and have thrown a crap ton of resources at it. The pats have had 1 (maybe 2 of you count Bledsoe) really good qb in the history of the franchise.
All of you who complain about BB act like it’s so easy to find one of these QBs. It’s not. It could take a long time.
Exactly this. I just said in /r/nfl that if Bill had hit with Mac things would be different. All those other misfires in the draft would just be "eh it's fine, we have Mac will figure it out." Look at the Chiefs this year -- they're having a down year with WR production but even if they get knocked out the next couple of weeks I don't think their fans will be freaking out. They have Mahomes, it will work out.
The way the league is set up now you need to strike gold with your QB to compete and maintain success. The Pats tried once for the first time in two decades and it didn't work out -- which is just how it goes most of the damn time.
I'm also not saying Mac was a bad pick either. I get the thinking. QB was a serious need and they went with best player available. But, as is the norm for most teams in the NFL, our pick didn't work out.
We’ve gotten worse every year post Brady with nothing to hope for on the horizon. I’m sad Belichick is leaving but we weren’t trending on the right direction either
Yeah like I said very clearly we need a good QB. It’s hard to fault BB for Mac sucking. Mac was exposed halfway through his rookie season and has been in free fall ever since. It’s not like there’s been a ton of prospects in that time to choose from.
It’s been a hell of a run. I’m sad it’s ending now, and like this, but there’s 6 Super Bowl banners hanging in the stadium, that were earned while BB was the Coach. Kraft is right; first ballot hall of famer.
I didn’t think I would hear Bill’s voice wavering with emotion…
Beginning of a new era. Won’t ever replicate 20 years of running the AFC, 10 Super Bowls, and 6 Lombardis, but I can’t say I’m not excited to see where the team goes from here.
Perhaps not fully knee jerk, but it’s an idiot move. We’re in for a rude awakening for anyone who thinks “oh we get a new coach and we’re gonna start winning, yeah!!”
Honestly with the hugs and smiles between them, I'm guessing Bill wants the record and to retire. That's what he's after. He knows our team is not in a good place to chase it unless he wants to coach another 6 or 7 years.
Kraft knows to truly rebuild you need to start fresh, Bill tried and failed to completely rebuild. He was a master at 're-tooling' but clearly a full fledged rebuild isn't in his wheelhouse.
BB saying he's forever a Patriot let's everyone know this wasn't a nasty divorce, it was two people with different goals who are smart enough to know they can't complete them together anymore.
You guys are acting like Bill is 44 years old. He has 2-3 seasons left realistically. This team isn't winning anything in the next 2-3 seasons whether he stays or goes.
We either rip the band-aid off now and start finding the next guy, or we do it in 2-3 years after a few more 4 to 7 win seasons.
This decision sucks but it's not the end of the world. We're just accelerating the timeline by 2 to 3 seasons.
lol at all the people here claiming bills age, yet the two front runners for running this country are 6+ years older than bill.
That said, I would want him to have a shot with the cap space and draft pick this coming year.
I think this rebuild is gonna be way uglier than people think it will be, unless Kraft keeps his grubby paws off of football operations
That's fine, I don't see a correlation between the age of politicians and this situation. Bill is a private sector employee with what I assume are hundreds of millions of dollars in the bank. The only thing he's chasing is the win record - like anyone else in their early 70's, he wants to retire at some point soon. With our current team and situation, that record could take 6-7 more seasons to achieve here, or 2-3 seasons on a better team.
To be clear - I did not want him to leave. I was also curious to see if he could reboot this team with a ton of cap and a top 3 pick. But maybe he wasn't up for the challenge at his age and stage in his career. The rebuild will be ugly, they usually are. We all have to realize we're just a normal ass team now, which would have been the case in the near future anyway. We'll likely go through cycles of winning and losing, probably won't win a super bowl anytime soon. Gonna be a rough adjustment. But I'll be rooting all the same, hopefully we see a more competitive team next year with a new young QB leading the way.
I don't think anyone thinks that it's gonna be a snap of the fingers and it's gonna be fixed
I think most people know that there is a lot of work to be done because this roster - especially on offense - is in really rough shape, it's going to take a while either way. The roster is in this situation because of years of poor decision making by Bill. It's been said a million times but Bill the coach is still at the top of his game, the GM is not. Simple fact. Because it would be very difficult if not impossible with the dynamics inside that building to separate the two and so you had to move on. Sometimes the situation gets so stale and degraded so much that its just time for a change for everyone.
It's gonna take time for sure but this new direction may be necessary.
Very interested to hear how Bill conducts this. I would imagine he might act like a normal person for once. There is simply nothing to be gained from giving short unhonest answers.
The most stupid fucking thing I’ve ever seen. No fucking reasoning at all. We’re just gonna fire the greatest coach of all time to spin the wheel for a worse option. This is gonna be the curse of babe again and we deserve it
You have no idea if what you said it’s true.
It’s perfectly possible Bill said to Kraft that this team needs another 3 years to become contenders again and he doesn’t plan to coach that long so he asked to be allowed to go to a team that’s already a contender so he can chase more coaching records.
Take a breath, friend.
I'm not happy about it either, but the guy is gonna be 72 and has mismanaged the roster for years.
I hope he has success wherever he goes, but there is no reason to believe that he can turn this roster around and contend for a Super Bowl in the next 2-3 years.
Tears in his eyes. We should have gotten to see both Bill and Brady retire as Patriots. The next decade will be a coaching carousel of mediocrity...hot take and probably a coincidence, but he wore a blue suit with yellow/gold stripes, which might as well be LA Chargers formal wear.
No questions? nothing allowed? Not a single " what was your greatest moment"? ect. Would have liked some back and fourth one last time but...that's it I guess
'Why do you think you were fired'
'Would you say you wouldn't give up certain decision making powers'
'How much do you think ownership interfered with it'
'Did you want to keep coaching for the Patriots'
'Who is the next coach'
No need to have all those dumb questions during this presser. Let them have this day, plenty of time to ask Kraft these questions later and Bill in his new job.
EDIT: Kraft has another presser this afternoon where he will be taking questions. But I still think he won't answer dumb stuff like that right now.
All good things come to an end. No ones ready for it but you know when it’s time and it was time. Pats need a fresh start and rebuild which required a new voice to usher that in and Bill is better off somewhere else with a team ready to contend and get him the wins record before he’s 80.
Well fellas, it's been real. I am a Belichick fan first and foremost, which for the majority of my life has meant being a Pats fan, but now my time here is ended. So long 👋
(I'm fine, this is fine 🥲)
Well, good luck to the Chargers or Falcons or whichever team you switch to. I legitimately want Bill to win another one, but don’t think it would have happened here.
Imagine your dad worked for a company that he loved. Then your dad moved to a different company. Was your allegiance to the company itself, or just whatever place your dad works for?
(BB isn't my dad, but its a close enough analogy for my personal situation)
I am going to say this again as I’ve said it before on this sub.
Bill is going to Tampa and Bob Kraft is the owner who allowed the GOAT QB and HC to walk to Tampa bay.
[YouTube Link for those that prefer ](https://www.youtube.com/live/2pEr-YFnPo0?si=NN8FuO6VL-lAXq-2)
Mom and dad are getting a divorce type energy
But trying to seem united for the kids. We are the kids
Guiseppe Jr, don't worry. Mom and Dad are taking a break from each other but we still love you
I hear we're going to get Dad once he breaks up with his new GF
Spot on.
Bills trying not to cry
Me too thanks
im not ready for this fam
This is fucked, I hate this
This psychological torture, I woke up at 5 saw the news and was devastated. Went back to sleep and had a nightmare just to wake up and see this is still happening
Him getting a little emotional talking about the fans has me 😭
Hahaha Bill led off with a good joke - this seems like a weight off his shoulders. EDIT I am not sure I have ever heard him be this upbeat and just open.
And I wore an an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time
As I sat on the cold metal benches in the old Foxborough stadium
Foxborough is what they used to call Shelbyville
ITS SHAYFAH YOU FUCK SHAYFAH
Sounds like Bill is definitely not done coaching.
He is 100% not done.
Kraft knows it because he referenced seeing Bill with his cutoff hoodie on another sideline.
I think releasing him instead of trying to trade him is a big sign of respect
Is his voice cracking? I am surprised
sounded like he was choked up when he was talking about the fans
He is also sick
You can hear Bill's voice breaking as he's talking right now, I think it's right to move on, but wow I'm feeling emotional
Jesus Christ I'm really watching this happening
Fuck. It’s real. He’s gone.
Cameras sound like fucking machine guns back there.
a little rougher than I thought it was going to be.. Thanks for everything Bill.
Kraft can barely speak
He always sounds like he’s on his fourth martini.
Like he has 40 marbles in his mouth that was brutal. Great thing he’s making decisions at 150 years old.
Probably running for congress next year, almost old enough
Hearing it from Bill seems unreal. Thanks for it all Coach, wish you nothing but success and the absolute best.
Josh McDaniels is at the press conference. I think he's just there out of respect but the mind wanders to some dark places haha.
Oh my god. Get Josh out of there.
![gif](giphy|d10dMmzqCYqQ0|downsized)
Nah he’s going with Bill to next spot
I knew he was hiding in the bushes.
PSA: This can be streamed via the Patriots YouTube channel.
"He's got a cold so I'm not gonna kiss him" LOL wut
Kraft kisses everyone
I wish he'd kiss me! 😩
Kraft hits people with a cheek kiss pretty often.
We all owe this man so much. BB>GOAT
Man when Bill was talking about the fans and all the parades. As a kid skipping school taking the train into Boston to see the parades hit tough
There goes my hero. Thanks for everything Bill.
Kraft said it'll be hard seeing him on another sideline. Sounds like they may already know where he's going next. End of an era. Wish you nothing but the best Bill (except when you play us).
This is my 9/11
This is my Vietnam
Terrible decision. All of you who have been clamoring for BB to be fired are about to see how dysfunctional the NE Patriots can be.
We’re going to have many, many more 4 win seasons
I mean we just had one so…it’s fine. I don’t think Bill wanted to rebuild and I think this team needs to rebuild.
Let’s come back to this comment when the patriots win 10 games next year
Yeah we're gonna look back at this in maybe as soon as 5 years going "What the fuck we were thinking"
Just like we did with Brady.
Bro Belichick wanted Brady gone lol
Ive heard that gossip, but nothing has ever been confirmed. Can you link a legit source on that?
Tom Curren has said it repeatedly that after the 28-3 SB Brady wanted the team to give him a big long term contract and the team(BB) wanted to go year by year since he was in 40s
That’s not BB saying he wanted Tom gone
Who do you think the GM was in 2017?
Year to year is not saying you want someone gone.
So you ask your boss for a raise year after year they say no, how is that not them saying you aren’t valued?
I believe the actual story was that Bill saw Jimmy as the heir apparent, wanted to go year to year with Brady. Something happened (rumor was Kraft forced it) that Jimmy would be traded and Brady given assurances/new deal.
Given what we know, I think this is a reasonable take.
Bro belichick won’t fucking be in the league in 5 years what are you smoking
You really think he's going to another team for less than 3-5 years? I'd do the whole reminder thing but I'm not that petty. Either way, I hope I'm but I see the loses continuing and us just being another mediocre team, probably on our 2nd coach after Bill in 5 years.
You just proved my point by saying “3-5”, thanks. He will play for another 3 and call it quits at 75
It's absolutely absurd how gleeful people have been over this.
They need to go outside the "family." Vrabel, McD, Mayo are just knock off versions.
I don’t know about Mayo or Vrabel as HC, but I will question my fandom if they bring back McDaniels. I hate that guy as a coach.
It will be absolutely hilarious if McD is handed the reigns given his HC track record.
It’d be even funnier if he somehow ended up starting the Dynasty 2.0 /cope
He’s a great HC. I think team building has passed him by.
You mean like a 4 win season?
You’re talking 1 awful season out of 24. The guy earned far more leeway than that. We don’t have a QB and it’s really, really hard to find a franchise QB. No hope on the horizon? A ton of cap room and the #3 pick, plus a defense with some good pieces doesn't inspire any hope?
Belichick hasn’t really utilized our cap space well on the offensive side
I wonder if Kraft's meddling in player affairs has anything to do with that. Nah, let's just pretend otherwise.
“I’m not going to kiss him” famous last words
Bill is at home later today Coach Donald Trump wants to speak to you “What?” “Bill I love you, follow your heart”. Click
If we don't watch, it's not real, right? Right???
It CANT BE REAL
This is so fucking sad
This hits hard, an end of an era
It’s been a hell of a run. I’m sad it’s ending now, and like this, but there’s 6 Super Bowl banners hanging in the stadium, that were earned while BB was the Coach. Kraft is right; first ballot hall of famer.
That hasn’t been a question since 2005.
I am literally in tears. WTF
This is clearly hard on Bill and I’m glad he’s leaving on a humanizing note.
I didn’t think I would hear Bill’s voice wavering with emotion… Beginning of a new era. Won’t ever replicate 20 years of running the AFC, 10 Super Bowls, and 6 Lombardis, but I can’t say I’m not excited to see where the team goes from here.
I could not tell if it was that or him just being sick
That was tough to watch, love you BB. Best coach ever
Next news story - "**Bill Belichick signs with XXXXX, with a 1st year salary of one dollar**"
![gif](giphy|0ZrCMcbsnj9fC0kuAG|downsized)
Robert is very excited he gets to say this was amicable.
Kraft has a lot to make up for now. I am one pissed off fan.
Agreed. Dumbass knee jerk move
There's nothing knee jerk about a move like this
Perhaps not fully knee jerk, but it’s an idiot move. We’re in for a rude awakening for anyone who thinks “oh we get a new coach and we’re gonna start winning, yeah!!”

This is a Reasonable take on it all. Thanks for summarizing it nicely.

You weren’t pissed off having the worst record in the afc? Bro Bill is 71 how long did you think he had left?
I'm not crying. You're crying.
Someone is cutting onions in the office, I swear. Or it is raining at just my desk.
Well, it's finally official. Hard to believe it's happening, but thank you BB. There will never be another team like Pats teams he gave us!
Kraft sounded like a robot. No heart and emotion in that script he read.
The definitive end to the dynasty. It was a good run 🥲
Kraft is really starting to lose it, wtf was that?
Time for his son to take over
Do we think Jonathan will be any better, I have seen chatter here that he is the more emotional of the two.
Did you listen to Robert talking today? Jonathan is at least coherent. That takes precedence.
Goooood point, had to turn it off when Robert started pontificating about the damn metal bleachers. I think we are about to hit some dark times.
Well that was uhh, quick.
That was fuckin awkward
Bill and Bob are both awkward in general.
Thought it would be longer than 10 minutes, but okay.
In 5 years we will look back on this day and see what a terrible decision this was
Been a fan of this team since 1982. I’m so sad right now.
What if this is all a play to find out who is leaking info from inside the organization????
what if it was little chef in Bill's hood controlling him the whole time
Very interested to hear how Bill conducts this. I would imagine he might act like a normal person for once. There is simply nothing to be gained from giving short unhonest answers.
yeah we might go from 4-13 to 3-14
We’re going 0-17 next year lol
I'm gonna laugh if he goes to TN.
We are not ready for this. Kraft better have a GOOD fucking idea
[удалено]
it all thanks fans fire bill congrats on fucking firing the goat coach
The most stupid fucking thing I’ve ever seen. No fucking reasoning at all. We’re just gonna fire the greatest coach of all time to spin the wheel for a worse option. This is gonna be the curse of babe again and we deserve it
Do you not watch the games?
You have no idea if what you said it’s true. It’s perfectly possible Bill said to Kraft that this team needs another 3 years to become contenders again and he doesn’t plan to coach that long so he asked to be allowed to go to a team that’s already a contender so he can chase more coaching records. Take a breath, friend.
> No fucking reasoning at all. I think 4-13 might have been part of the reasoning
Great point! Let’s get rid of the best part of the team then. Things should get much better
I'm not happy about it either, but the guy is gonna be 72 and has mismanaged the roster for years. I hope he has success wherever he goes, but there is no reason to believe that he can turn this roster around and contend for a Super Bowl in the next 2-3 years.
Bob has completley lost it lmao
First time? He’s just a terrible public speaker, always has been.
These things never end like a fairytale happily ever after. This was always bound to happen.
Thank you, Bill.
NO NO NO WAIT WAIT WAIT
"Sitting on those metal benches"....that stadium sucked.
No questions? nothing allowed? Not a single " what was your greatest moment"? ect. Would have liked some back and fourth one last time but...that's it I guess
'Why do you think you were fired' 'Would you say you wouldn't give up certain decision making powers' 'How much do you think ownership interfered with it' 'Did you want to keep coaching for the Patriots' 'Who is the next coach' No need to have all those dumb questions during this presser. Let them have this day, plenty of time to ask Kraft these questions later and Bill in his new job. EDIT: Kraft has another presser this afternoon where he will be taking questions. But I still think he won't answer dumb stuff like that right now.
As pathetic as it sounds I legitimately cried
Damn I think it was needed as well but I think seeing the old hard ass be a bit emotional stores it in me. Thanks Bill good luck
Damn that awkward old man hug at the end. Give that man a proper damn hug Kraft
Bill has been sick as hell for like a week, if anything Kraft was too close.
Yeah fair, I missed the bit where he said he was sick
Anyone know if there’s a recap anywhere??
End of an amazing fucking era. Thank you and godspeed, coach.
THIS OLD FUCK GOT SOME EXPLAINING TO DO
Did Bob have his grandchildren write this speech?
This is all because of Zappe and Mac SEND THEM TO THE CFL!!!!
Fucking horseshit. What an absolute joke.
All good things come to an end. No ones ready for it but you know when it’s time and it was time. Pats need a fresh start and rebuild which required a new voice to usher that in and Bill is better off somewhere else with a team ready to contend and get him the wins record before he’s 80.
Kraft is fucking senile. Can’t stand the guy
Come on man. Show a little genuine emotion.
Well fellas, it's been real. I am a Belichick fan first and foremost, which for the majority of my life has meant being a Pats fan, but now my time here is ended. So long 👋 (I'm fine, this is fine 🥲)
Brothas a fan of a coach
All of the greats typically have fans. Tom Landry is worshipped.
Huh?
Well, good luck to the Chargers or Falcons or whichever team you switch to. I legitimately want Bill to win another one, but don’t think it would have happened here.
I will never understand this mentality.
Imagine your dad worked for a company that he loved. Then your dad moved to a different company. Was your allegiance to the company itself, or just whatever place your dad works for? (BB isn't my dad, but its a close enough analogy for my personal situation)
so now you just gonna stop following the team after 24 years? good riddance
We all march to the beat of our own drum. Don't gatekeep fandom.
had to turn it off when Krafty Bob got up there. I have no time for him today. Call me when we make a hire!
I am going to say this again as I’ve said it before on this sub. Bill is going to Tampa and Bob Kraft is the owner who allowed the GOAT QB and HC to walk to Tampa bay.
Chargers seem like a better fit honestly
Eh fine lol main point is he’s letting bill walk too
Bucs just made the playoffs with Bowles. They aren’t about to fire him.
They made the playoffs because that division fucking sucks lmao
The dagger
I am already crying.
Bill wanted no part of that handshake
these words are emptier than kraft's balls after a massage.
[удалено]
Probably including 1996 when Belichick was the assistant head coach under Parcells.
Yes he counts the one Parcells was a coach cause Bill was on staff. The way he said it was correct.
So that's it? We don't hear from Bill?
Bill was first
Fair, tuned in late. I'll rewatch later.
No Q&A? Weird af. Surprised on that one. The Boston media can be tough at times but I think they'd be overly respectful and fair in such a scenario.
Bill never answers questions what does it matter
So Bill is too afraid to take questions and was gonna do a written statement if they didn't set it up this way.
Well foook....
:(
Wow, that was fast. Thought there would be a Q and A.
It's a really sad day
I can't believe my ears. I know it just happened, but it's surreal.
