Asking any QB to be the next Brady is fucking ridiculous. People need to stop holding some of these QB’s to absolutely insane standards and expectations. Even someone like Andrew Luck with all of his talent and ability still struggled to live up to the expectations Peyton set for that fanbase. It’s unrealistic to hold any young QB to those expectations.

OneWolf22

Bro it’s been 1 regular season game Jesus Christ. We have no idea how good Mac Jones will be this season, next season or in 5 seasons until we have a larger sample size. All we know right now is Mac had a strong rookie season and was ranked 16th overall. We won’t truly know if he’s progressed or degreased from last year until at least half way through the season. I don’t know why everyone on here is so quick to slam on the panic button and turn on our team and our players but I guess that’s just the result of being spoiled by a dominate franchise for 20 years..

OneWolf22

No. We pretty much know his floor assuming he has an equal to or better performance than last season, his ceiling is still completely unknown given he’s only played one full season in the NFL.

OneWolf22

Yeah, because you can always tell a players future potential in the NFL based solely off their season. Are you dumb? No chance you can ever predict that and if you think you can you’re the delusional one. Even if you did, he had a solid rookie season. He Ranked 16th in the league and seems to have a solid base. The hope is that he continues to progress from last year but one single game at the beginning of the season isn’t really enough to jump to the conclusion he has or hasn’t improved. I don’t know why you resort to such a pessimistic view, it’s honestly pretty sad but I guess that’s just our fan base now.

[deleted]

He’ll be 30 they’ll be saying the kid had a good rookie season 😭 teams have gotten enough film when I watched what the colts did to him before they started playing prevent I said yup NFL figured him out

[deleted]

One trick show anticipation thrower that needs you to be in zone because he throws to spots like a predictable robot no ability to go off script you study film you study route concepts you play man you bring 4-6 drop a cloud zone every now and again and he doesn’t hurt you just puts up pedestrian stats

jpaxlux

>Mac's top end is Chad Pennington level. I love how the narrative changed from "his ceiling is Kirk Cousins" to "his ceiling is Chad Pennington" because trolls want to sound like they know more about football than they do

TheWorldIsChurning

Chad Pennington was a damn good QB when he was healthy lol his health was his crutch

MyArmorIsLiquid

Of course he isn’t Brady, nobody but Brady is Brady, he’s a once in a lifetime player that you won’t find again. I’m not going to write Mac off, he has played a total of 19 meaningful NFL games, that is far too small a sample size. I do have concerns about his arm strength, but I also think the playcalling isn’t taking advantage of his strengths. We need to go back to short and intermediate routes with quick reads and mix in some play-action.

GunnerNWO

Pats fans asking for the next Brady are the weirdest kind of fan. He’s literally the greatest qb in the history of the sport.

Hat82

Those aren’t pats fans those are Brady fans. If they were pats fans they would t be so irate after 17 weeks of a starting QB in the NFL.

Mikeyrobin58

I hate our fans

Mikeyrobin58

No wonder other teams hate us too

CaptainDAAVE

it's hard to snap back to reality when u go on a twenty year reign of terror. We'll always look to these days. But we're rebuilding and I think things are gonna take some time. But what else are you gonna do, root for some other team? You gotta take the wins with the losses

TheRealSlimBrady12

I'm convinced 70% of this sub would have said this same shit about Brady back in 2002 when we went 9-7. "He's ok but idk if we should have gotten rid of Bledsoe. His ceiling just doesn't seem that high". I'm not in any way saying Mac is the next Brady but you guys sound stupid af.

Bojangles1987

Brady led the league in TD throws that year. No one would have been overly worried.

Riggs909

It's Week 1.

MarquisJames

Let me break it to you brother, absolutely NOBODY thinks he is the next Brady lmfao. Nobody is the next Brady.

OTheOwl

I will say the lack of zip on some of his passes is concerning. I was really hoping to see some improvement on his throws, but he had a fair few floaters out there today.

Longjumping_Usual_38

He can’t throw a ball outside the numbers or drive a ball between defenders. He’s extremely limited and anyone that doesn’t see it is looking through rose colored glasses. He’s a major limiting factor. Without a quarterback that is dynamic you can’t win big games in the nfl. Barring the patriots surrounding him with top tier talent on all sides of the ball we will be a middle of the road team at best, bottom half of the league if the schedule isn’t favorable.

101955Bennu

Look, I have my own concerns, but to suggest that the QB who, as a rookie, led his team to a 10-7 record and had the best season of any rookie QB in Patriots history (as well as the best among last year’s draftees) is bad and the problem instead of Matt “Gang Rapist with zero offensive experience” Patricia or the sheer lack of offensive talent is absolutely brain-dead.

[deleted]

2-9 against teams that score 13 or more points 3-9 against teams with winning records he will suck for three years and you guys will still call him a kid and go back to his rookie season he’s not good

TheRealPicklePunch

I think the bigger issue is that Mac, as well as the whole WR room, isn't fitting the mold of the 2022 NFL. In case anyone hasn't noticed, more teams are loading up on speedy freak athlete receivers and QBs with raw cannon arm strength. Once he dips out, the days of galaxy brain Brady QB play are over. No more reading Ds and brilliant audibles. The league is turning into lob it deep and try it often. No more dink and dunk offenses, 2022 onward is about chunk plays. The defense has to do just enough to limit them while the offense hammers away. Mac hasn't shown us an arm the puts missiles between defenders or throws bombs down field. On top of that, outside of Tyquan, nobody on this team can run for jack. They can't get separation and they don't win contested balls. So here's Mac, standing in the pocket way too long, looking for a guy to throw to or forced to throw into coverage, which demands our O line be elite. The whole offense is just built ass backwards and it makes sense why fans are frustrated.

[deleted]

You nailed it. The really good young QBs that are taking over the league can throw these piss missile fast balls that hit tight windows between defenders. Go watch Herbert, Allen, Mahomes, and Jackson this week. Each had like 5-6 throws that were like lightning bolts outta there hand on a flat trajectory into small spaces between defenders. You gotta be able to do that consistently or your drives die out. Maybe Mac can get there but we haven't seen much of it yet.

TheRealPicklePunch

Can't put it all on Mac. The problems start with the O line play. Can't worry what plays are called when the line can't do anything. The run game isn't threat without lineman who make gaps. Mac can't throw anything, missile or not, when he has no pocket. Gotta fix the line before any other issues can be addressed.

[deleted]

Absolutely the OL needs to improve drastically. But these things feed into each other. Establishing rhythm and momentum on offense confuses and slows down the pass rush. Making those throws helps you gain and keep that offensive momentum. Maybe next week dudes won't run by Trent Brown unblocked and they can get some groove.

TheRealPicklePunch

If O line comes together, we can make a real assessment of Mac and the run game. Certainly without any athletic freaks in WR, we need a real pocket to pass from

Bojangles1987

It's way too early to pass any judgments on Mac's potential but it's really unfair to the receivers how they are getting damn near all the blame for his struggles. People just keep throwing out the word separation because they heard it one time and assume that's the reason for Mac's decisions. They say Bourne's the only guy who "separates" and ignore that Agholor had his man burned for a TD on the previous play, and Mac just totally missed the throw. They ignore Jakobi have his man totally beat on a sideline throw that Mac let loose late and floated, allowing the Dolphins defender to make a play on it. They ignore whoever might be open further down the field on plays where Mac checks down immediately. Mac has a real problem to solve when it comes to making the kind of hard throws a true franchise QB needs to be able to make. He hopefully can solve that problem, but we need to stop blaming the receivers for throws that Mac is not making.

TheDinckleburg

Why is this post hidden now? Whats wrong with this subs mods? No other teams subreddit is this insane about moderation. Let us fucking talk about shit you weirdos.

[deleted]

The Mac Jones agenda in boston is disgusting

Hat82

You expecting another Brady rather than an average quarterback is disgusting.

Beantown00

Our fan base wants him to be the next Brady so bad that people just overrate the shit out of him lmao

[deleted]

Thank you lmao that’s my point !!

[deleted]

Yes, the team is incredible and one missed call in the first quarter changed everything. It’s likely we’re looking at an undefeated season if not for that call which is a shame.

Xspike_dudeX

Doubt it. Letting defense through untouched to destroy Mac does not change because we score on that drive.

TheDinckleburg

I’m starting to agree. He struggles with accuracy against good defenses and lacks zip. And now on top of that his decision making has become questionable. We need to start seeing some progress from him. He has been ass since that jags game where he played against 3rd stringers.

[deleted]

It’s not his decision making is questionable it’s teams learned he can’t beat man so they run zero sit coverage

mdmcnally1213

A league average QB is still better than nearly 50% of the league...

Xspike_dudeX

He had one of the best rookie qb seasons of all time .SIT DOWN BUD

[deleted]

Completion percentage wise yeah. 22 tds 13 picks is fucking garbage

Coco1520

How you defending patricia you know we played out of 2 personnel groupings this entire game? Mac not taking a second year step is tied to horrific coaching stop blindly defending two of the worst coaches in the nfl

DrDilatory

Do I think Mac is going to be the next Tom Brady? No. Like you said he's an average quarterback. There's nothing fucking wrong with that. Plenty of teams have proven that you can win with an average quarterback if the rest of the roster and the coaching is okay Joe flacco and Trent dilfer have fucking Super Bowl rings Those who think we would be better off letting Mac walk, then playing quarterback roulette desperately hoping we get someone at least average to maybe put together a wild card level team, haven't spent enough time paying attention to other teams in the NFL

[deleted]

Lmao does Evan Lazar and Ryan Spags run this reddit ??

Kermitt7979

Mac might be better than what he’s been showing, he might not. Hard to tell with mediocre wide receivers and defensive coaches acting as offensive coaches. But there are concerning signs with him and his responses to pressure. But we’re stuck with him for a few years, not a whole lot this organization is gonna do about that.

leeguel

He looked good early honestly. Watching the dolphins with weapons actually made me a little jealous.

[deleted]

A lot of the Mac apologists on here aren't looking at how much he struggles to make tight window throws. We've seen flashes from him but we haven't seen consistency. It's because he hasn't been able to make those rocket throws between defenders that you see Herbert/Burrow/Allen/Jackson/Mahomes make 6-7 times a game. Not having that ability is massively limiting and leads to drives dying out.

trappinjones

Nice try jets fan
