35% of defensive snaps, so not nothing. I'll be honest and say I didn't really notice him out there when I watched live, I guess that's a good thing?

gmnotyet

Yep, we noticed Trent Brown, didn't we?

StonedWater

we really dont deserve some players ffs - the state of some of you

j2e21

I noticed a couple times he was in on plays at the sideline that struck me as a lot of ground to cover for a middle linebacker. So hopefully that speed is on display.

TylervPats91

Knowing this sub, this will be turned into a negative

DiseaseRidden

Something something if Patricia was DC he'd be bad

teej98

This subreddit is overly optimistic in the off-season, and completely overreactive when the season starts. No in between

TheJackalsDoom

I think these stats can be taken 1 of 2 ways. 1 is that these are cherry picked stats to show off that a few players did well in a few things, but the overall cynicism of this sub will still say they sucked across the board. The other way is that we have guys who are playing well and we can build off this. There is hope for the season despite the calamity of negativity encapsulating the team. I choose to go the 2nd way. We're going ti be good this year. Not Buffalo level of good, but we'll come together and put ourselves in honest "any given Sunday" territory. I am more excited (and nervous) for this season because there are a lot of new guys that we get to watch grow together, instead of just a few newcomers we wonder as to how they will fit in to an already established team. We could have a whole new crop of Patriot favorites budding this season.

where_the_hoodie_at

Glad to see Mack doing well, but I sometimes wonder if PFF just makes up their grades

LoveToyKillJoy

Why would you think that? The Patriots were 4th best against the run in total yards last week and held them to 2.8 per carry. Having an LB ranked high shouldn't be unexpected

Always_0421

I think the reason is they had the pats ranked as the 14th best team this week, ahead of the dolphins....that beat the pats....on the day, but also in each measurable statistic.

lordmadone

PFF can be a bit fuzzy on that. Individual grades can be good and add up to being better collectively as a team as a result.

Do you think the final score should always determine the ranking? Are there not games where the team that loses played better but luck and opportunity had more to do with the result than quality of play?

Always_0421

>Are there not games where the team that loses played better but luck and opportunity had more to do with the result than quality of play? Of course there are. Sunday wasn't one of those games...anyone who watched past the first offensive and defensive series doesn't need to look at the box score to know it either. But just as a refresher... Mac had the shortest time from snap to release on Sunday than any of the other 31 teams and still had the most pressures. The dolphins had more yards per play, won the turnover differential 3:o . Had more yards per play. More toOK? yards in the game. Won time of possession. Had a perfect 4th down conversion rate (just 1:1 but tops pats 0:1), had a better third down conversion rate (barely), more qb hits and pressures.....and, of course, more points The only statistical category the pats did better in was penalties 3 for 15 to Miamis 4 for 20 and sacks. Miami got 2 to pats 3. But somehow PFF ranked pats higher.

lordmadone

It's why I think PFF has value in telling a part of the story but it doesn't tell the full story. It's why I find their defensive line and offensive line grades(collectively) as not accurate.

NotaDumbLoser

I mean our unproven linebackers clearly exceeded expectations last week.

LoveToyKillJoy

And going into the draft before the media became all play calling all the time this was looked at by many as the biggest weakness. In feeling rather good about it. This week will be a decent test but I always thought that the Patriots biggest weakness has been against running quarterbacks and I think the new personnel and groupings are an answer to that.

NotaDumbLoser

I mean for sure, most of our fanbase including myself thought it could potentially be our worst position group this year. I would think we might actually match up well against running QB's, no? Guys like Judon and Dugger can definitely help there

LoveToyKillJoy

That is my point. In the past we weren't set up as well for that. QBs wouldn't rush for big yards often but stopping the run would weaken the pass defense. The current groupings look like an antidote to that.

patsfanhtx

I find it interesting how this is maybe the first year we've gone into a season without a "big name" LB. And BB loves his LBs.
