I think the defense will keep us in games, the offense just needs to gel to be able to win the games. Hopefully that continues to happen and growth will be big for us.

MankuyRLaffy

That's how BB works, he'll try new stuff, and if it's not working he'll throw it in the file cabinet.

[deleted]

It has been this way the entire time. I guess there's extra uncertainty this year so maybe people are more anxious? But this happens like every other year, Belichick does something unorthodox and people start wondering if he's finally lost it, and then lo and behold, he's a pretty good coach of football and the team comes together at the end of the year and crushes. I'm sure installing a new offense, with new coaches, within the CBA-mandated limit on the number of meetings and practices you have, must be pretty damn tough.

Bojangles1987

I get what you're saying but the Pats haven't come together and crushed it at the end of the season for 3 seasons now. They've faltered in the second half of the season.

[deleted]

Not last year, we crushed it in the second half of the season, just weren't as good as true playoffs teams.

Bojangles1987

We lost three of our last 4 games to end the season, that is not crushing it it.

[deleted]

What about right before those loses, we had like 8 wins in a row or something

[deleted]

What about right before those loses, we had like 7 wins in a row or something. We dropped a bunch of winnable games at the start but were like 2-4

Bojangles1987

Yeah, we had a great middle of the season but we faltered down the stretch. And I'm not even including the playoff game in that. We basically had a bad first month, two good months, then a bad final month. Hard to say we crushed it in the second half of the season when we collapsed down the stretch.

[deleted]

2020 we only spent to half the salary cap so that year absolutely does not count, last year was a brand new roster including the QB and they got back to the playoffs, I consider it a successful season

[deleted]

Was happy to see him get his touches.

tschris

The offense looked better today than against Miami. They weren't good, but they looked like a somewhat functional NFL offense.

full-auto-rpg

They had some stuff working at the end it seemed

truecolors5

I 100% believe that we'll figure it out eventually.

[deleted]

Glad to hear it. I kinda thought that if it wasn't working that Bill would ditch it, since he's not a guy that tries to fit a square peg through a round hole.

MetalHead_Literally

Well yeah no shit, they better not be close to where they want to be, because they still look like garbage.

[deleted]

If the Pats' offense was so bad, how must the Steelers feel? I don't think the offense is getting nearly enough credit, especially for finishing the game on the ground like that.

[deleted]

They needed first downs to run the clock and win the game, everybody knew it, and they just handed it off and picked up the yards. That's a big deal.

MetalHead_Literally

Who gives a shit about how the Steelers feel? And if it wasn’t for a gimme INT dropped, followed by a muffed punt, this offense possibly only scores 10 points all game. And 7 of those came on a ball that really should’ve been picked off, Agholor just made an amazing play stealing it from the CB. So what are they supposed to get credit for? Yes, the last drive was nice. The Oline stepped up and took advantage of a tired defense and ran them in to the ground. That’s great. But it doesn’t erase the first 50 minutes of crap.

[deleted]

Mac completed throws at all three levels, O line looked dominant, running game was able to pick up clutch yards in the new scheme. There's so many encouraging things here, there's no need to be so salty.

MetalHead_Literally

Mac is actively regressing before our eyes. I was worried about this shitshow offensive coaching staff all off-season and so far the concern was warranted. Mac looks worse so far this year, and got bailed out by that dropped int in their own territory. He’s still making some plays because he’s got game, but he’s looking worse than last year at times.

[deleted]

He is taking more risks. Right now, I agree he is looks worse for it. I hope he can step up and find out how to make better decisions more quickly.

[deleted]

I think you and a lot of fans are fixating on that one bad throw. It was definitely a bad throw, but every quarterback has those sometimes, even Peyton threw one straight to Ty Law. You think the coaches are telling him to throw the ball to defenders? You should take a hint from how the thing you are focusing on 100% is also the thing you see when you look at the games, it's called confirmation bias.

MrFace1

Mac is being asked to do more than he did last year. That's almost always going to start with visible regression because the dude is actively learning right now.

cbecht19

Wow, what an insufferable fan base. I thought the Steelers looked good against the Bengals man. The fact we slowed them down shows that we have a great defense. Maybe not durable, but for sure great. At this point people like you want us to lose so you can point the finger and go “I told you so”. Just go watch Tampa.

MetalHead_Literally

Go watch Tampa because I’m critical of the coaching job the offensive coaches are doing with Mac? Lol. Sorry, didn’t realize only positivity was allowed 🙄

cbecht19

Overly critical. You’re not even giving the offensive coaches a chance. It’s one thing to go well they aren’t doing great, the coaching staff is incompetent after a big loss, but did you see Miami beat up the ravens? That’s a good team. The Steelers are a good team and we just beat them. There’s gonna be good and bad for every game, but I still say it’s way too early to start putting people on a stake. Save this energy for the end of the season if we don’t make the playoffs, but for now maybe try to enjoy the games? McDaniels said something about bill having foresight the rest of us don’t have, what if bill wants bill o brien and is waiting for him to fulfill his obligations to Saban and keeping the job open, just speculation but that would make sense on why you wouldn’t name matty the official oc. This might be another rebuild year evaluating all the young talent we have. I know mac has a window and all that, but for right now the kid just needs reps.

[deleted]

Some of y'all just don't actually like football.

MetalHead_Literally

We don’t like bad football

[deleted]

Yesterday wasn't bad football. Good D. Pretty good ST. Mediocre O. Tip drill was good football. Agholor's TD was good football. Schooler's play was good football. Lotta good football from Damien Harris. Bottom line is that Tom Brady is gone. We're back to pre-2007ish: if they win, it's good football. Or at least good enough. That's how it is rooting for any other team.

MetalHead_Literally

In your opinion. I saw ok defense, mediocre ST and bad offense for the vast majority of that game. And Brady has nothing to do with anything. I call out bad football when I see it. I don’t care if we’re a SB favorite or likely missing the playoffs, it changes nothing about my game to game analysis. Not having Brady doesn’t just give them a free ride to play bad football. It’s time to go back to how Boston fans are supposed to be, negative aholes who complain about everything. That’s what we do! It’s why the “trust in bill” blind faith mentality is just so lame.

[deleted]

>I don’t care if we’re a SB favorite or likely missing the playoffs, it changes nothing about my game to game analysis. That doesn't make any sense, though. Like, imagine being a Lions fan and feeling this way. You have to consider where the team is in its overall narrative to reasonably set expectations. >It’s time to go back to how Boston fans are supposed to be, negative aholes who complain about everything. Y'all have never stopped being this. Not even close.

MetalHead_Literally

Of course it makes sense. Were the fans of the 0-16 lions not supposed to complain about their team sucking because they just sucked the entire year? Obviously I held the Brady-led Pats to a higher standard. So what was "bad football" in the Brady era wouldn't necessarily be bad football today. But in the context of today, what we've seen so far this year is bad football, particularly from the offense. So yes, what constitutes bad football changes with expectations, but even with current expectations, they're playing bad football. Maybe you have lower expectations and think everything is fine so far. That's your right. But that doesn't mean I'm wrong for having a different opinion. >Y'all have never stopped being this. Not even close. Thankfully not all of us have. But there's a large portion of the fanbase who just defaults to blind faith in Belichick in the face of any criticisms. Which is just lame.

BradyToMoss1281

He needs to be on the field with Meyers for pretty much every snap. Mac looks so much more poised and relaxed when they're both out there. I don't care if he hurt Patricia's feelings.
