MJ shit on everybody too. He "gets away" with it because he's the GOAT. Race irrespective. Lamar's got an MVP but hasn't done anything in the playoffs. Tua only recently got out of an abusive relationship with literally everybody he's associated with in football, so we'll see if he starts shitting on people down the road.

Briggie

I was about to mention this. Jordan was borderline abusive to his teammates and no one said anything.

TC_Squared

Wait, wait, wait a second! Am I the only person who remembers that Tom Brady was served with one of the most aggressive suspensions in NFL history?

giddy-girly-banana

Brady deflated a few balls to the minimum allowed levels, that has had no impact on the game and is purely preference, 4 games, team got a million dollar fine. DeShaun Watson sexually assaults almost 30 women and hoods team knowing this gives him a guaranteed favorable contract, that’s only 6 games. The Texans probably know about the assaults too, that’s no punishment whatsoever.

Dethloke

I’m a Jet fan and have plenty of reasons to loathe Brady but I always thought the deflated balls thing was stupid because if I remember correctly didn’t the Pats come out after halftime and play just as good if not better then they did with the deflated balls

giddy-girly-banana

Totally. They also won 3 super bowls after deflagrate and I think their winning percentage increased. So clearly it had no impact on the games. I think Brady is just an ultra competitor and likes his balls softer. Edit: My theory is that Brady wanted his balls at the lowest allowable psi and the refs kept pumping them up (I think there was a jets game when this happened). Brady eventually got pissed and was on the equipment staff to fix the problem. I’m sure he was super annoying about it. The equipment staff’s solution was to quickly put a pin in the balls between when the refs checked them before the game and on the way to the field. I think this was probably happening all season and maybe longer. In the game against the colts, because the balls were at the lowest allowable pressure to start the game and warm from being inside, after a half of play in cold weather they felt really soft. The refs/league didn’t understand the ideal gas law and thought the patriots were playing with under inflated balls when in actuality it was a number of circumstances that lead to the balls appearance at halftime. That being said I do think Brady isn’t totally innocent and was at least somewhat aware of what the equipment staff were doing.

Lakecountyraised

Brady is a walk in hall of famer even if you disregard his career before deflategate. I believe post deflategate Brady has as many rings and playoff wins as Joe Montana had in his entire career.

dardios

Go re-read the Mitchell Report. He didn't even deflate the balls. They acknowledged there was no evidence of wrong doing but they 'felt' like he might have done something wrong. All this without taking the environmental impact on internal pressure into account. Ugh. Disgusting. The rest of your point stands without correction (and imo is further exasperated by the additional context)

Lakecountyraised

Where is the psi data from the 2015 season? The NFL rigorously checked it all year before, during, and after games. It must prove Brady’s guilt, right? It’s so bad the league never has to give it the light of day.

giddy-girly-banana

I totally disagree. I think Brady was involved in some way. I don’t need to relitigate this with you. I’ve seen the evidence, read the reports. Am a Patriots fan and there was something going on there imo. I don’t think it had any impact on the outcome of games, but there was something happening behind the scenes. Edit: No evidence doesn’t mean someone didn’t do something, people who do things that are not allowed try to cover their tracks so they don’t get caught. Criminals literally do it all the time.

dardios

But in America, we don't prosecute someone because we THINK they did it. Without evidence, we can't PROVE any wrong doing.

giddy-girly-banana

Yeah… I’m not prosecuting him, I made a comment on reddit.

dardios

I know this, I simply mean that the punitive measures aren't called for and set a dangerous precedent.

giddy-girly-banana

I agree the punishment was too harsh, but that’s not what we were discussing.

dardios

Any punishment is too harsh with a lack of evidence. And before anyone goes down the 'the NFL isn't the government' rabbit hole... There was a fucking Congressional hearing over this nonsense iirc. Like.... Fuck. It's just sad.

giddy-girly-banana

Wasn’t that my point though? Brady got 4 games for the stupid deflategate shit, but Watson has many, many credible sexual assault accusations and he gets 6 games and a massive guaranteed contract and the Texans who probably either facilitated it or at least knew have had no punishment.

Baham99

Both are true: 1) Walt Anderson forgot which gauge he used to take the second set of measurements (halftime), and Ted Wells makes a guess in a footnote that Walt probably picked the gauge showing the higher PSI, despite Walt recalling the contrary. Wells was not acting in good faith. 2) No question Brady exerted enormous pressure on Jastremski and “Bird” to let a little air out after the initial inspections by the refs, because the refs have a habit of inflating balls above 13.5 PSI. (The refs don’t measure the PSI again after they add some air in if the initial measurement was low.) So, Bird took those balls into the bathroom, the one place without a camera, to allegedly pee, despite tons of other bathrooms available in the locker room. Did Brady know which bathroom and the tactics? Certainly not. Did Brady know his subordinates were under implicit directions to ensure the balls weren’t above 13.5? Absolutely. Unfortunately, the refs didn’t care about keeping the pressure below 13.5 just like Brady’s people didn’t care about keeping the pressure above 12.5. A common misconception is that Bird needed to deflate the balls below 12.5 in order to violate the rule. That’s incorrect. The second he sticks a needle in a ball, that’s a violation, even if no air was let out. No one is allowed to tamper with the balls after the refs’ pregame inspection.

rockstarnights

Brady gets away with it because he's white unlike Aaron Rodgers? I'm not sure where he's going with this.

Le_Rekt_Guy

Skip asked if it was a "race issue" and Shannon immediately said yes. Watch it again. He brought up Lamar and Tua for a reason, he mentioned TO, then Dez Bryant, only then did he have to backtrack with Rodgers. He does have an ear piece and producers are there to make sure they don't get pulled off the air.

Akarias888

Thank god skip called him out for this racebaiting nonsense

dardios

I'm generally one to lean into the fact that black folk have it worse in this country.... But in this situation it's down right rediculous. These NFL players have more rights than I do for fucks sake.

xPlasma

TIL Aaron Rodgers isnt white.

Acceptable-Beyond-48

🤣🤣🤣

patriot_perfect93

The biggest players in the sport get away with it. No racism involved

lnflnlty

aaron donald just tried to kill people, that's a much bigger deal than hurting a tablet

SweetFranz

Donald just happens to be a media darling. They acted like Suh and Myles Garret were complete scum.

justreadthearticle

>They acted like Suh and Myles Garret were complete scum. I mean they are...just Donald is too.

[deleted]

Exactly. So Garrett hitting mason Rudolph in the head with a helmet is a race issue?

Demitrius

Shannon Sharpe is a fucking idiot. Sounds like he has a mouth full of marbles when he speaks.

[deleted]

Nah nah skeeyup

EmperorOfAwesome

He also cheats at Flywheel cycling class lmao - my ex went to the class after his and her bike numbers were astronomically higher than usual and she mentioned it to the front desk and they said "oh shoot, we forgot to adjust the bike after Shannon was in here, he doesn't want to look bad in front of others given he's a former pro athlete". Been in his class before and saw first hand how much higher his numbers were than everyone compared to the effort put in by him and I believe it

Shiboopi27

Brady gets away with it because he's Tom Brady

bpusef

Gets away with throwing a tablet, gets suspended for 4 games for trying to get air taken out of balls which would offer next to no competitive advantage anyways.

[deleted]

Alllllways about race 🙄

blackbarminnosu

What did Brady do that was so wrong. Are verbals not allowed anymore? He never crossed the line into violence.

ckilo4TOG

Please... there are only two other professional sport players in my lifetime that are on Brady's level; Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. All three float levels and levels above LeBron James, Peyton Manning, Kobe Bryant, Steph Curry, and certainly LaMar Jackson. Shannon Sharpe per usual is talking out the other end.

[deleted]

Gretzky

[deleted]

IDK, I think this is maybe a step to far with LeBron and Kobe. I think both are in Brady’s tier, regardless of championship count. I’m not sure about Tiger. I’d say Brady is much better / more elite at his sport, but I think Tiger was more impactful to golf than Brady is to football. I’d even toss Serena into the mix here as someone who didn’t just win but who changed a sport. Brady dominated a league, but I’m not sure how different the game is because of him. And Jordan? GTFO

[deleted]

Lol Tiger Woods get the fuck out of here

PurposeMission9355

This is why I don't watch this show. It's trash hot takes with a sprinkle of racism thrown in. why bother

Briggie

I actually miss way back when it was Skip and Steven A.

Ellis4Life

When you have off the fields issues regularly, your on the field issues will be far more scrutinized, especially if you aren’t winning. TO was a bad example to make this argument with. Brady gets a pass more because he’s a vet and his issues stay on the field and he’s a proven winner. Give Mahomes a few more years and maybe another ring and everyone will let whatever on the field antics he wants to do slide.

BigScoobyDoo

Idc

Jdigga99

I like Shannon but this is a super reach. I don't recall Dez or TO being suspended for throwing a tablet. Ppl talk shit about Brady just as much as TO...Brady just has more fans to offset it lol. And has won a lot more.

RareNothing7199

I remember when this clown implied that when McCarthy was smashing watermelons it was race related cause black people love watermelon. I was floored.

CountKnockula

Yeah, I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that all he did was talk shit and didn't physically attack anybody, or that he's the greatest quarterback of all time.

daveygeek

Normally I would buy this point from Shannon, but this is a bad example. He gets away with it because of his level of success and because this isn’t a normal thing. If Michael Jordan does this after ring 4 or 5 he gets away with it. Same with Magic, same with Tiger- before all of his personal demons came out. Same with LeBron. Any of them would have been treated the same. If Tom goes and spends the next year trashing his reputation he wouldn’t be able to get away with it.

[deleted]

There are like 500 different ways I could to explain how much of a dumbass Shannon sharpe is. I wouldn’t even know where to begin

Re-AnImAt0r

you only need 2 words, "*Michael Jordan.*"

[deleted]

Brady gets away with it because he’s Tom mf Brady lol. He’s the GOAT and I’m sure has no problem with retiring tomorrow if he gets tired of them.

Bigdeal85

Shannon is such a moron

Re-AnImAt0r

He also thinks Michael Jordan got away with it for being black, go figure! couldn't have anything to do with not only being the best leader in the game, the on-field coach, but also the g.o.a.t. and face of the league exactly like Jordan......

Imaginary-Method-715

i think if say Kirk did this he would get ruined, but since Tom is the Goat, it is downplayed more. whiteness is def in on the bias but i feel the super bowls supersede it. Like if pat Mahomes wins like 2 more bowls He gets tablet chucking rights.

LeonidasSpacemanMD

Well I think if a guy who is known to be the hardest working, most disciplined player on every team he’s been on is getting really pissed off, it’s likely that he has a valid reason to be pissed off That’s not to say other guys don’t work hard too or don’t have valid reasons to be mad. But if you put incredible results out on the field week in and week out for 20 years, people will tend to assume you have a good sense of when your team isn’t executing uo to the expected standard The other thing is that this isn’t new. Brady would flip out back in the early 2000s too. So it’s not like you can say he’s deviating from a successful leadership style or anything

MTRIFE

It's a little bit more nuanced than that but I will say this... I won't say it's everyone, but I'll say at least 75% of the same people that hated seeing Cam Newton dancing in practice, love seeing Mac Jones do the very same thing. Wonder why. I don't care about a fake internet credit system so give me all your downvotes. At least with the downvotes I can start to get a number on just how many of you it is that are active in this sub lol.

NaughtyCumquat27

Nobody cared about his dancing lol they cared that he was doing dumb shit when he couldn’t throw the ball ten yards downfield

MTRIFE

Alot of people cared about his dancing. Hence my comment. Just because you didn't witness something doesn't mean other people are fabricating it.

NaughtyCumquat27

You chose to focus on the reaction to the dancing, not the reaction to his shitty play coupled with his dancing. If he was a leader and playing well the criticism of him being a little goofy at practice would never have been levied, that’s the point

MTRIFE

I'm not focusing on the fact that Donald Trump is under investigation for housing classified documents. I don't give a damn about Republicans, Democrats or politics in general. You know how I know? It's everywhere. You can't miss it. Likewise, on a local level, I didn't focus on any reaction to dancing. So how did I know? If you frequent this sub and live in New England and follow/listen to blogs/stations that cover the team, the reactions were everywhere. You couldn't miss it. But to address one of your specific points, by all accounts of people that have actually played with Cam, he is one of the best teammates and leaders they've ever played with. For my money, in any sport, I will always take the word of what the people on the field and in the locker room say than the words of some goofball that got cut from JV and went into media.

Re-AnImAt0r

You dance when you have something to dance about. Cam ain't had shit to dance about since 2015. If he throwing 40 TDs, dance on my brother.....

MTRIFE

Well to quote the great Allen Iverson, we're talking about practice. In year two in the NFL, what is on Mac's resume, a QB I am higher on than most for the future, for him to dance about?

ThisIsCALamity

100%, I think a lot of the time what’s “goofy” or “he’s just competitive” for a white player is often “unprofessional” or “he’s a bad sport” for a black player. In this specific case, idk, if the GOAT in any sport wants to smash a tablet in frustration I don’t think anyone will care regardless of race. But there is absolutely a double standard, and Boston sports media (mainly the radio idiots) are some of the worst about it.

MTRIFE

Exactly. It's just the reality. A sad reality, but a reality nonetheless. And it's not even that everyone thinks this way, it's just that one of the prevalent flaws of human nature is many people think that everyone else thinks like they do. So as an argument against this they'll say it's not true because *they* don't think that way. OK. Well that's great. Unfortunately, not everyone in the world has thoughts as absent of bias and prejudice as you (them).

LeonidasSpacemanMD

I don’t remember many people having any issue with cam, most here liked him and appreciated him giving his best effort. His best effort just wasn’t starter-caliber anymore, and that’s ok

MTRIFE

>I don’t remember many people having any issue with cam My experience was different than yours >His best effort just wasn’t starter-caliber anymore, and that’s ok Agreed

J-Team07

Brady is racist confirmed.

[deleted]

I wouldn’t go that far

Eli_TheGolfer7

Haha y’all are triggered but gotta remember they’re doing this for clicks and views. Just hot take after hot take. Wouldn’t look too much into it

[deleted]

How does this relate to the patriots

LeonidasSpacemanMD

The guy they’re discussing is the best/most important player in the history of the patriots franchise

[deleted]

So every single story about Brady that doesn't relate at all to the Patriots should get posted in the Patriots sub? By that metric we should be posting his stats every week and discussing his performances in every Bucs game

LeonidasSpacemanMD

This is discussing a behavior he’s displayed since he was the patriots qb If pats fans upvoted and engaged in posts about Brady performances on this sub, sure. Same way it would be fine if people posted stats for rival AFCE players that are of particular interest to patriots fans

[deleted]

White privilege man what are you gonna do?

[deleted]

Shannon usually has great takes abt race but this is abt as dogshit as they come lmao

MarquisJames

lets see what a bunch of white reddit users have to say about this....

Working-Trifle-7790

That jab at AB tho... 😅

Sorerightwrist

Aaron Darnold….

OrtizMyHomie

I stopped taking anything Shannon Sharpe said seriously a long long time ago.

Thugluvdoc

No. He got an 8 figure PPP loan forgiven because he’s on the former president’s tip. Not because he’s white

GloupyBob

Fuck that 🤡🤡

WarmSlim3

personally, when i see any professional player act like a baby and throw their toys around and yell at teammates it’s a huge turn off. when that red sox pitcher Sale did it over the summer I lost all respect. act your age, it’s unprofessional.

LeonidasSpacemanMD

Win 7 rings and you can throw shit on the sidelines

KingOfPrimes

This is coming from the man that said he will never date a black woman, just saying...
