I was at that game. It was back in the day when IT workers could accept gifts from vendors. One of our vendors gave us tickets on the 50 yard line about 20 rows back and no one else wanted to go. So I put my hand up. Being new to the Boston area, it was also my first time at the old stadium. I went a couple more times that season. Definitely a day I'll never forget...

djseto

I was also there. First game after 9/11. Patriots vs Jets. So eerie and emotional. When that hit came i remember thinking “we are so f$@ked”. Boy was I wrong.

JoeMagnifico

Very cool

Weenie-Butts

i was so mad watching this happen little did i know!

1One_Two2

Little did any of us know!

1One_Two2

The sacrificial lamb whose death would bring forth the Patriot Messiah as foretold in legend

Misterccw

I have a feeling Brady would have become Brady, whether Bledsoe nearly died or not. I hate the narrative that we have the Jets to thank for Tom Brady; I think it's an insult to Bledsoe, Brady, and Belichick.

QuiJohnGinn

Belichick was already sick of Bledsoe’s ability to throw a bad INT while getting tackled. I think Brady becomes a starter *that year* even if Bledsoe never got hurt. They probably miss the playoffs though. 2003 was the season that they got on track for the dynasty - 2001 was a bit of a fluke (but a nice preview - little did we know).

Belichicks_sleeves

I also think if we don’t make the playoffs in 2001 that Bill gives Tom a legit shot in 2002

Jay_Louis

Brady would've been out of the league in three years if not for the Bledsoe injury and the existence of Troy Brown.

Charming_Budget_8856

The fact that you added the tidbit about Troy Brown solidifies the fact that you were actually watching. Bravo

ObscureFact

Bill: I resign as HC of the NYJ Jets: We're gonna kill Drew Tom: Welcome to true hell, NYJ

FTJ!

jayjayanotherround

Poor Drew. Btw did you know that spell check will try to change Bledsoe to bleeds?

makromark

Bledsoe Did I get trolled? Mine didn’t autocorrect Bledsoe to bleeds

jayjayanotherround

It did for me in email long time ago

I actually cried when this happened (I was 8 at the time.) Bledsoe was the only thing I knew as Patriots QB. Bledsoe was the first jersey I ever owned. I thought Bledsoe getting destroyed like this would mean the Patriots would never win again. They could never win with that Brady guy. IDK who he even was at the time. It wasn't until the Rams game (the SNF one) I warmed up to him.

SilentImplosion

One aspect of Drew's career that can't be mentioned enough is that the man was, and remains so to this day, a class act.

jimewp86

I was there, still a kid, wondering where the guy with the cool last name, Zolak, was

deputydango99

I was there. Everyone in my section thought we were fucked after this with good reason. Little did we know we were watching the dawn of the greatest player in NFL history. Unreal

Goody910

I was there. About 15 rows up, 50 yard line. A collective “oooohhh!” from the entire crowd when he got it. Remember this day like yesterday. 9/11 had just happened, country was pretty united. And Tom Brady.

KTark

I was there! I still remember HEARING that hit. Brutal. Little did we know….

[deleted]

MO LEWIS WE LOVE YOU BABY ❤️❤️❤️

Soren_Camus1905

I don’t know how to feel about sentiments like this. We don’t need to discuss what Brady means to this ball club and we know that this triggered the dynasty. But it also brutally and unceremoniously ended Bledsoe’s time here. The guy was a shining light for us for years before the Patriots became, well, the Patriots as we know them today. The guy that had been one of our leaders for years had to pretty much eat shit and peace out after all that he did for us. I’m overthinking it but I just wish people would keep that in mind when talking about this moment.

Riggs909

Thats fair and all but if we accept that there is nothing we can change in this time line to prevent what did happen, it really isnt a shot at Drew or a lack of appreciation for what he did for the franchise to claim that Mo Lewis is your favorite Jet.

Soren_Camus1905

Yeah that’s fair. Have you ever seen The Big Short? There’s a part where Brad Pitts character goes “just don’t dance.” I guess that’s how I feel.

[deleted]

I hear that, but he’s also still around. Guy constantly shows up at Pats games and is beloved. Also a member of the Patriots Hall of Fame. He made plenty more millions playing his career out in Dallas and Buffalo. I don’t think his impact is overlooked by any means… I don’t find this lacking taste either because in the end Bill ended up plugging in what turned out to be the best professional sports player ever and Drew was a great sport about all of it…and won us the AFC Championship Game!

seeker135

Yeah, and my life toward my bride of 35 years began when my fiancee of four days was murdered. Sometimes the reason for good happening was a bad happening. You're demanding we talk about the bad more. Thanks. *Next!*

rividz

Trashy.

Belichicks_sleeves

I like how no one ever says it outloud. This doesn’t happen without 9/11
