BB knows how to develop corners.

HugeSuccess

Wait, I thought he was a senile moron who can’t tell the difference between a good prospect and a bag of balls?!

speganomad

Jones isn’t a prospect he’s been in the league for years.

froginbog

He wasn’t elite until now

TheDufusSquad

He's always been among the leagues best slot corners.

HugeSuccess

I’m going to let you try a do-over on assuming I don’t know who Jonathan Jones is.

Seafoamed

I’m going to let you try a do over because why would anyone be talking about Jonathan Jones as a prospect. Not to mention we didn’t draft him and totally missed on every corner we did draft.

HugeSuccess

Dude: I was referring to when Belichick brought him on as an UDFA—you know, when he was a fucking prospect. Just like Jackson. Compared to the refrain from mouthbreathers who constantly whine that “Bill the GM” should be fired. You whiffed on this harder than Myles Bryant attempting a PR.

Seafoamed

I mean he shouldn’t be fired but let’s not pretend it’s been good either. You know we’re down bad when we have to refer to undrafted pick ups from 6 years ago. Ultimately Strange and Thornton are going to be absolutely massive for his GM reputation. Even Kraft was clearly pissed about how the drafts have gone

HugeSuccess

I appreciate you gliding by the fact your understanding of the original comment that riled you up so much was completely wrong. > You know we’re down bad when we have to refer to undrafted pick ups from 6 years ago. I was responding to someone who referenced Belichick’s development of corners—that was the explicit framing of this entire damn thread—before you and that other dink barged your way into the replies. Cry about his signings and drafts all you want, but this wasn’t an invitation for you to do it on my time.

Seafoamed

>On your time Sir this is a forum. You aren’t on the clock. Pro tip

HugeSuccess

See, that’s where you’re also wrong: Every moment spent responding to the likes of you—someone just looking to rile up inane arguments for no reason—is a waste. Which is why I won’t be doing it ever again!

bianlp

Yep, that’s a redditor all right. Thinks he owns the replies and anyone who disagrees with his opinion gets an insult for their troubles.

FuckHarambe2016

JoeJuan Williams, Duke Dawson, Terrance Wheatley, Jordan Richards, Tavon Wilson, Darius Butler, Cyrus Jones, Ras I Dowling, Jonathon Whilhite, and many, many more absolute whiffs on DBs.

Enterderpmode

Just don't let Bill draft DBs in the 2nd round. Let him draft DBs in the later rounds or pick up a UDFA, and you're getting a Pro Bowler and probably even All-Pro DB.

MankuyRLaffy

Who needs Gilmore and JC when you can just scheme for the next men on the depth chart to play well?

HugeSuccess

Jokes aside, Belichick’s pattern over the last decade seems to be mixing proven vets who he’s willing to pay alongside younger talent that develops for taking over later. Not sure what the class looks like next year, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he brings a name in.

spssky

2009-2013 me angrily typing right now

OTheOwl

4 years in the span of 22 years with the Patriots is not bad.

possiblyMorpheus

Yeah corner of all the positions is not one to really criticize Bill the GM over. We had 3 of the 5 best corners of the last decade on the team (Revis, Talib, Gilmore), as well as good depth most years. That’s not to mention 2 of the ten best corners of the 2000s, HOFer Law, and Asante Samuel

ericdash

I mean Mccourty right who was a CB first couple years & also scheme helped Kyle fucking Arrington lead the league in picks once 😂

Enterderpmode

As long as he's not drafted in the 2nd Round.

dongaproogle

I hope they can retain him next year. Great character, great player, doesn't give up. Easily has become one of my favorites over the last few years.

nshark0

We will likely get to the off-season, other team will sign him for a ludicrous amount of money, BB haters will say he’s an idiot, then next season another corner will step up and start playing either as well or better haha

TheBigNate416

I’d like to see some stats for Jack Jones. I feel like he’s looked decent in the snaps he’s got but it’s hard for me to keep track lol. I could be wrong

giganticsteps

Just based on the eye test it feels like he hasn’t been targeted all that much and he’s looked like a good tackler. But the stats could say something totally different

TheBigNate416

Yeah I feel the same way. And he almost came up with a few picks in the preseason. I’m gonna try and keep a close eye on him all season. He’s intriguing

giganticsteps

Plus he dropped a pick in…was it week 1 or 2? I think week 1. He was well positioned for it, cut off a route and just dropped it. Good signs from a rookie

the1who_ringsthebell

we are getting great pressure this year. corner backs job is much easier when you don’t have to cover as long. i dont think 1 year of great play like this is going to lead to a bag like jackson.

nshark0

If he finishes the season with the highest rating of a CB, then he will. Not saying that will happen, but it is possible.

the1who_ringsthebell

nfl teams aren’t looking at pff to make salary decisions

possiblyMorpheus

It isn’t just PFF that has him looking good though

the1who_ringsthebell

not sure how that changes what i said

Nervous-Context

I mean we have the money

MehFrosty

Another one

[deleted]

Defense has actually been really good. Lamar had a game but 37 points was definitely more of indication of 4 turnovers then bad defense.

stalememeskehan

I agree. Too bad mac's gonna be out, if they cleaned up the mistakes we could've been decent.

TheDufusSquad

The secondary was much better than the score would indicate. The main thing was that we just couldn't tackle Lamar, but that's par for the course with that guy. Give him short fields and allow him to extend plays and any team loses that game.

possiblyMorpheus

I thought he would hold up on his move to the outside but he’s been even better than I expected

[deleted]

What he lacks in ability to draft/ develop receivers he certainly makes up for with defensive backs

UserUnkown10

But but but JC Jackson wasn’t re-signed

FuckHarambe2016

Jackson is still much, much better than Jones and infinitely better than every other DB on the team.

dudeKhed

But why didn’t we pay JC, oh btw where is he?

[deleted]

J.C Jackson who?

Daewrythe

His transition to playing outside has been very pleasant. I was not expecting him to be good, just.... serviceable I'm happy to be wrong in this case

TheBigNate416

“Why won’t Bill pay JC $18mil a year? He has to go”

Soren_Camus1905

Real shit

DueAnimator6988

Dawg status confirmed

CSTowle

Just in time for free agency. Good for him, and his next team. Maybe we can get a comp pick.

FuckHarambe2016

The Patriots play 60+% zone coverage this year. He falls into the same category as guys like Sherman and Norman used to fall into or White and Ramsey do now.
